So I was at a mall today and walked into a BestBuy mobile store. They have the Note 2 from AT&T and Sprint on display.
I picked up a Sprint Note 2 and immediately noticed it's thicker than my AT&T version and also sturdier. With the permission of the store worker, I open up the back, and confirmed that the back is thicker than that of my AT&T version. And because of that, it feels a lot more solid in my hand.
Don't know if others have checked it out, but if I am right, the AT&T version has a thinner and cheaper back. At least that's the "case" with mine.
Then I walked into another mobile store and bought an OEM Samsung flip case (BestBuy is waiting for their case to come...sigh), the kind that you have to replace the original back with the back on the case. Again, the back on the case is thicker and makes the phone feel a lot more solid.
Also during the few minutes in that BestBuy store, I saw two people walk in and ask for Note 2. Pretty cool.
Just because it's thinner doesn't mean it's cheaper. I'm just fine with a thinner phone. I usually put a tough case on mine because of my line of work, so the thinner the phone itself is, the better. But I have no problem with the feel of the att

A carbon fiber hood is thinner than a steel/aluminum hood. Guess which is cheaper.
Given that these back panels are made of the same materials the comparison isn't exactly the same but I'd take a thinner phone... My ATT note 2 feels plenty solid to me. Why add weight or bulk?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
Owning 2 Sprint versions Ive found AT&Ts build quality more solid.
The battery cover is more sure then Sprints.
Sprints is little heaver & thicker due to extra radios....a mess of sorts which is one of the main reasons I went ATT .

It's interesting to read all the opinions. I either have a not so impressive sample or I prefer a more assuring feeling of my phone. I used to think my phone feels ok until I picked up the sprint version. I certainly like a thin phone, but the original creaking back just doesn't give me a secure feeling when I handle it lol.
I'd take thinner any day. Sprint's version could be indestructible and that wouldn't be enough to bring me back to them.
Mine doesn't creak.

Mine doesn't creak at all...it did with the OEM flip case from AT&T...but since I put my original back back on it doesn't and now that I got my Seidio case on as well...it's a non-issue all together for me..
I suggest if it bothers you this much...take it back and get a replacement for it. You can also try some other backs on it and see how they feel to you and if it stops the noise.
FWIW...I handled the Sprint's version before and after I got mine at one of their stores...I couldn't tell any difference in the sample there and my own in feel or operation..so perhaps you do have a defective one..

Hey everyone,
I've seen a couple of people say they received their Barely There cases, but no pictures or reviews. I attempted to contact Case-Mate via twitter along with others to ask when they were selling it since the case was already being sold through 3rd party channels. They stated those must be "preorders" as the cases aren't ready.
Well - I ordered one of these supposed "preorders" on eBay and the case arrived today... so much for Case-Mate knowing what's going on with their own product.
I did a video review you can see on YouTube here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joJ2...text=C241afUDOEgsToPDskK0QAnQlbjsSJm_K3Pq2wWK
I'd like to make it a point that I believe this was indeed made for the Verizon version since it just doesn't fit quite as tight and fitted as every previous Barely There case I have purchased. It's not a BAD fit, but it just isn't perfect. If you have any questions, let me know.
** Update **
After using the case for a bit, I have to say I am simply not satisfied with the fit. The phone doesn't feel right with this case and the difference in fit between the GSM and VZW version is too much for me. The fit just isn't nice enough to justify the price.
Thanks for the review. Was thinking of picking one of these up, but now that I know the 3rd-party vendors are selling the Verizon version, I'm going to wait until Case-Mate (hopefully) officially releases a GSM version.
Interesting I just received my pre order from Clove in the UK and it does seem as if it should be for a slightly thicker phone. It sticks up about 1mm around the sides of the screen. Checked the box and it says GSM version.
Not used these cases before any previous users, is this normal?

I can't speak for this case, but my buddies who have Casemates Barely There for their phones always tell me one of the features of the case is to offset it if placed face down to protect the screen

Have a look at this listing I found on eBay:
Case-mate Barely There Case for Samsung Galaxy Nexus i515/Nexus Prime i9250 - Wh
Feature 1 : Compatible: Samsung Galaxy Nexus i515/Nexus Prime i9250
That probably answers why the case wasn't snug fitting, it's made to accommodate the larger size of the i515 for Verizon.
I'm using one that I ordered from thecellguru and I don't see any issues with it. I'm definitely not worried about the phone coming out of the case accidentally and wouldn't really say that it fits loose.
The case does have a bit of a lip coming up higher than the screen, but most cases have that so in the event that you drop it screen-down the case will take some of the impact.
All in all I'm quite happy with the case, it has a good texture, not sticky/rubbery, is very thin and adds little bulk to the phone.
I ordered one, but I'm sending it back. Its definitely designed for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus
Its just slightly loose, and leaves small gaps for dust/dirt to creep in... Its a shame because these barely there cases are the best. Hopefully there will be a GSM 9250 variant in the future.
For Verizon GN users, this will be a great case. For GSM its just decent.

I have to say that after trying it for a bit I am rather disappointed with the fit. The phone is just too easy to flick off the case and doesn't feel nice and fitted like an authentic fitted Barely There case fits.
I can't recommend this for GSM GN's for the price.
Wonder if this case would work well with the extended battery, I'm thinking about getting the 2100 mah battery from VZ.
I want one of these but I dont think I will be getting this soon. I want it to be snug and fitting, how it should be.
I have the actual 'Barely There' case and I'm not completely satisfied with it. The fit doesn't feel or look right on the phone. I'm pretty sure if I ever dropped the phone the case would come flying off easily.

so as you guys know , I made the review for the defender and now its time for the commuter!
Very sleek, sexy and portable case. Minimum bulk while delivering great protection. A little slippery on the back but i can handle that
For me..ill take this case over the defender any day of the week.
Enjoy!
http://youtu.be/cm1qbkTA-2A
I got mine a few days ago and it's great. It doesn't make the phone to bulky at all and looks and feels great.
I convinced my brother to buy one after I dropped (test) it shoulder-high on the ceramic floor, twice. Still shiny new. The past reviews that I read were pushing me away from the commuter but I can honestly say it delivers protection and it's not that bulky. It doesn't pick up that much dust, and my phone is always in and out of my pocket. also, when you get the hang of it, you can put the case and remove it in 2 seconds. I don't know why people were hating on it. I don't use the extended batteries, gsm.
Has anyone crammed a VZW Gnex with the extended battery into the Commuter? Right now I'm just using a cheapo gel skin, but I'm in and out of the case a lot and it's starting to stretch.
Those cases make me cringe. Such beautiful phones being destroyed by cases.

Honestly Im a HUGE fan of rocking my phone naked..however I cant afford a new phone every time I drop it (and with my dropping skills it happens pretty often). Thats why i stick with the thinnest cases possible that still give good protection (sgp, diztronic, commuter, etc)

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Same here. If you choose not to cover your phone, that is your given right. However, when you have an unlocked device you're running a big enough risk as it is.
Also the VZW users may want to check this guy's mod out.
http://youtu.be/q-Z1tiotZFg
i had the commuter for my captivate and decided to try one for my gnex but returned it. it is one of the best fitting dual layer case that ive tried but i dont like how the outer hard shell is so slippery and the lines down it make it look cheap. the case was just as slippery as the naked gnex.
i bought the incipio silicrylic instead, it doesnt fit at tight as the commuter but is a bit thinner since the lip is not as high. the silicrylic feels so much better to hold with its rubber coating on the hard shell and exposed silicon on the sides and top. another downside is the incipio attracts more dirt than the commuter but its not as bad as some people say.
I had this case...pushing the buttons thru the case was a pain so I returned it! And pulling the battery is a true *****! In terms of protection, its great though! No doubt! I don't use a case anymore but I highly recommend if you're in the US to just go to ur local Verizon store and grab an incipio, fits better and pushing the buttons are easy! Plus they give u a stand too! Although I returned that also cuz this phone is too sexy and sleek to cover up, in my opinion of course!

Commuter with no battery back fits well. Best IMO.

I bought my GNex slightly used (1 month old), the previous owner had the Commuter one the GNex from day one, which was cool because I knew I was buying a used device that was most likely to be in mint condition... and it was. It has GREAT protection and IMO the corners having the interlining exposed was a great design because if/when you drop the phone, it's most likely to land on a corner first.
THAT said however... I'm currently NOT using it and decided to go with something slimmer ONLY because I've developed a habit of typing ONLY with Swype with ONE hand, it started when I had the Nexus ONE... and I got pretty good at it... The problem is... the GNex being bigger, Swyping with one hand is now more of an effort because I don't have big hands. WITH the Commuter case, it was simply more work... I'm keeping the Commuter for now, and would totally still be using it if it wasn't for the Swype thing.

But if you must know now, it's not worth it. The cover is designed for the short, fat batteries that Verizon uses and no amount of trimming I did was able to overcome that fact. The top and bottom will just never be flush at the same time because the battery in the GSM version extends up higher than the Verizon version. Also it is a tad wider than the GSM back so it needs to be shaved down there as well. I can get it to stay on but not in a way that I deem satisfactory because in all honesty I think it looks like ass when it's sticking up partly. Also the cover looks and feels like it should be smooth, slick plastic but it's just smooth. It's a different texture.
I painted my original back cover white with semi-gloss spray paint and it looks halfway decent. It fits on correctly and feels decent enough.
I also ordered an extra extended back and a white decal, so I'll make a big thread comparing all three options when I get those

Yes that is what I did. We don't have our own white extended back so I tried a few things, and have a few more to try. Yes the back cover is legit as far as I'm concerned. It's branded and everything. It has no texture though, but my stock GSM white battery cover had less texture.

This case has been proven to diminish data/gps signal on some other phones.
Could you do some back-to-back testing on the SIII to see if it has the same problem?
Put the phone on a table with the case on and run a speedtest.net test.
Then remove the case and put the phone back to the *exact same spot* on the table and run the test again.
See if the tests download data faster without the case on.

Hey for what it's worth I bought this case and replaced with a "rock" case. Downsides were that it is too slippery, degraded my signal, and was slightly too bulky to where the power and volume buttons were difficult to press because the lip over the front were too thick.
As for signal degradation I only say this anecdotally. In my basement I get 1-2 bars with the rock case. With the aluminum backed case I would get 0-1 bars and most text messages would fail to send.

I am fond of slim cases as well, but I carry my Note with me daily at work so the extra protection is a decent trade-off, not to mention having something to 'grip'. I don't swap out SD cards, so the slot being covered is not an issue for me. When I need to move a bunch of files, I just plug into my desktop or use and OTG cable with a flash drive.
After a couple days of use, I can say that the Otterbox is exactly what I hoped it would be and am very happy with my purchase. I would not be a buyer at $90 because I can't justify paying 25% of the cost of my refurb tablet, but at $50.. I was all over it.
I was using a Roocase dual view leather case, and it is very nice for a book cover/stand style case, not exactly light, but sturdy and protective. I bought it as my second choice until the Otterbox became available.
Thanks for the heads-up on the SD slot, I know there are folks out there that swap cards.
NOTE: My one concern before I purchases was the built-in screen protector... Totally not an issue, you hardly know it is there, and the screen is still bright, beautiful, and sensitive. Writing feels different... the bare screen is very slick feeling, the Otterbox screen has much more friction.. I read somewhere that someone said it will eventually smooth out and settle somewhere in between, and that would be perfect.
Great find.
Thanks. I got the case and I love it.

It will work with tampered glasses but I took the built in screen protector from the case off as I didn't like the rainbow effect it created.
I hope it helped.

Was it difficult to remove the built in protector? I would also rather use tempered glass.

Not at all.
Just press it firmly at the corner in ward and it will start come apart.
I did, however, use bit of rubbing alcohol to make sure all adhesive are completely removed (just my OCD kicking in lol) to make sure there aren't any residue sticking to the glass.
I checked after a week of use and there weren't any residues
Cheers!

I can also confirm that this case works beautifully. I liked tempered glass so I did remove the original screen protector. Very easy to do. Used Goo-Gone to remove remaining adhesive.
The price at Walmart is down to $39.99. Now the package sticker in the front does say "Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro(10.1) AND Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition". It is fully compatible. Love the protection!!!! :victory:
Is it still easy to use?
Too bad they didn't make a commuter case for the Note 10.1 2014... This Defender seems a tad large. I feel like the wife is not going to like it...
It really isn't that bad, just adds weight

Haha you're right! I got it and we both love it actually. Not afraid to "use" the tablet in it.
Amazon is currently showing the black one at $32.50, and a couple of the other colors are less than $17.00.

Just purchased the grey/white model for $20.59, including next day shipping. Description does not state it is for the 2014 version, but several reviews indicate it is. Sweet!
Picked up a Grey and White Defender for $17 on Amazon. I just installed it, it's super bulky but the quality is amazing and the multi use stand is great.
Are the ones from Amazon authentic?

Of so I went from damn I got a good deal to damn it I got ripped off lol
The quality is certainly comparable to other Otterbox cases I have purchased. Looking through the other colors for this case, which were priced higher, I got the impression that grey/white may not be popular and is being phased out. Even if it is a fake Otterbox, which I don't believe it is, the case is still a bargain for $17.

The Grey and White one I received was authentic otterbox. My Note 10.1 is white so it looks great together.
I just ordered one online from Walmart for $39.01 (Amazon also has the same price).
How is this case?
