Been a long time... Security Unlock - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hi all,
I'm going overseas in 2 weeks on a cruise and was hoping to get some T-Mobile prepaid action on this phone. I spoke with a guy at the store and he said I could go prepaid if I have a working unlocked GSM phone.
I dug out my old Verizon TP2, and wanted to look into popping one of their SIMs in and using prepaid. I know the phone needs to be security unlocked, but I'm not sure how. Not sure if it makes a difference, but I was running MightyROM before I upgraded to a Droid X.
From what I've gathered, I need to make sure the phone is security unlocked with the paid program by Oilpro found here:
http://rhodiumw.htc-unlocks.com/
Is this a program I run on the phone or something I flash via an exe?
Second, I need to flash the Sprint radio found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=578659
Then I guess I should be able to waltz over to a T-Mobile store, pop a SIM inside the slot and I should be good to go?
Any other steps? Seems too easy.

The SIM unlocker runs on the PC. It's a pretty simple and straightforward process.

So do I have it right or are there any other steps?

That's it. It's just as simple as it sounds.

Mytouch Slide on AT&T question

Hello all, I'm about to purchase a Mytouch Slide for use with AT&T, and wanted to make sure I wasn't going to have any issues with anything not working (GPS, SMS/MMS, etc.). I know I won't have AT&T 3G, only EDGE, but I can live with that. I searched but found very llittle on the subject, I'm assuming thats because both this handset, and this section of the forum, is fairly new.
Hopefully I'll be able to learn more about the handset in the next few weeks, and be abe to start helping others around here too. This appears to be a rather productive, professional forum. To that end, I'll say thanks in advance
What exactly are you asking.
So far the only people I know of, that can unlock this Phone is T-Mobile. Also, you must have an account in good standings & be a customer longer than 3 months..

What, really? So, I can't just buy one from, anywhere, and go use it? I'm new to this whole unlocking thing (CDMA background, and I work for a CDMA carrier), so I'm not really sure how the unlocking process even works. I guess that means I'd be much better served purchasing one that is already unlocked?
Well you can ask them lol but yah Check local listings new mytouch slides are only 300 and get them unlocked idk XD sorry

I'm sorry, I don't understand what your post says. The MyTouch Slide is significantly more than $300 new. It was posted above that they can't be unlocked. Are you stating that infact isn't true, and they can be?

unlocking works the say way it does for CDMA as it does with GSM. The only difference is instead of having to take my GSM phone to my carrier (or call them) to have my ESN number changed to my new unlocked phone like i would have to do with a CDMA phone. I can just pop my SIM card into my new unlocked GSM phone.
Even if you work for a CDMA carrier you should know that. If you work for any cell phone carrier you should know that

I understand the idea behind being able to take my sim card out of one GSM phone, and put it into another. The network looks for the info on your sim, not your ESN/MEID. And honestly, the only carriers that 'unlock' any CDMA phones currently are a couple of the pre-paids (MetroPCS & Cricket) as far as I know. You can't take a Verizon phone to Sprint, or visa versa. I work for a MetroPCS retailer, I know all about flashing CDMA phones to the MetroPCS network, and it's alot more than simply opening it up to be able to be used with anybody. Not to mention needing to use a 3rd-party flashing software that will flash Metro info to the device, as well as extract the MEID from the handset and add it to the MetroPCS database so the MetroPCS activation system will recognize it as a usable handset. So, it's really not a fair comparison.
Regardless, it still leaves my question unanswered. I've never dealt with GSM phones outside of simply buying a new one at the AT&T store. Being able to 'unlock' it to use with any carrier is a new idea to me. So, instead of everybody telling me I'm stupid and that I should know how it works, can ANYBODY point me in the direction of an explanation of what it takes to unlock a GSM phone, what changes need to be made, and why a MyTouch Slide is special WRT it not being able to be unlocked?

Might I ask how you got yours unlocked?
I got mine unlocked from theremoteunlocker.com
Gsm phones are locked via its hardware just like how when you use your pc the bios is software interlayed into your mobo so they could lock it if they wanted to only accept the types of processors they accept e.g tmobile locked their phone (the mobo) to only accept the tmobile simcard (the processor) the unlock code is a delevoper or admin unlock code that removes the simcard lock so you can use any simcard on it

Got it, I just figured that out from reading the website that you said you used. SIGNIFICANTLY easier task than 'unlocking' a CDMA handset. I've already sent them an email, if I can infact get one unlocked, I'll be buying one this week. Thanks!!
Yep best phone have trumps iphone

well where did u get urs unlocked from
Look around on tmobiles website, the have the conditions for giving you a unlock code posted. If you meet the conditions they will email you the unlock code.
I did it with my slide, I called them Friday and they emailed me a unlock code by Monday. Free and easy.
Found the URL. http://support.t-mobile.com/doc/tm51885.xml

I'm assuming by perfect you're not including 3G since the slide isn't set or rather, doesn't contain the correct radio module to use AT&T's 3G band. Or does it and we're being lied to by the carriers (no surprise there) hmm...

Is it unlocked?

So I have an HTC Touch Pro 2 with Sprint and I was wondering if it was unlocked. Is there a way to tell? Is there a way to unlock it?

What specific function are you trying to unlock? There is an application unlock in the "themes and apps" subforum for the Rodium. It is on the 2nd or 3rd post of the stickied "software worth installing" thread. This will allow you to run unsigned applications and such. If you mean unlock the sim card, there may be a cab for that... but I haven't looked into it.
Yes, you need to clarify. So you mean SIM unlocked?
The Sprint TP2 is unlocked for use with GSM SIM cards overseas, but you need to flash a new radio in order to use a ATT or T-Mobile SIM.
Thank you everybody for the replies.
Sorry that I was unclear before. What I meant is I would like to run the phone on ATT or T-Mobile after buying the phone from Sprint. There's a sim card in the phone but there must be something else I have to do, right?
Edit: Actually, there isn't a sim card in the phone. I don't think the phone had one when I bought it. Do I need to get one?
Umm, yeah. You need a ATT or TMob SIM card in order to get service from those carriers. But it will work on Sprint without a SIM, CDMA uses a different chip, not SIM, which is embedded on the phone's motherboard.
Also, you will need to SIM unlock the phone for it to work on ATT or TMob.

The Sprint version of the phone is unlocked to work abroad with foreign SIMs, but you need to unlock it to work on ATT or TMob.
I'm not speaking from experience here, just reading the info available. Go to the CDMA subforum for Rhodium for (lots) more info.

Hi my name is Adam and I represent Sprint as their SprintCareGuide. We recommend that you do not unlock your Sprint phone. If you do , you will lose the warrenty and we will be unable to help you with any issues you may have down the road.

[Q] Going International

I have an old verizon touch pro2, not my main phone anymore, went out of contract, upgraded to another phone.
I just HSPL unlocked it, and put on energy rom on it (Energy.RHODCDMA.29022.Titanium.Jul.06)
Anyways I'm planning to goto thailand and I want this phone to work on DTAC
What steps should I take to be sure the phone will work over there? Should I grab the Amazon 'T-Mobile Sim Card Prepaid Kit' to test with?
Do verizon people have to do: rhodiumw.htc-unlocks.com
(it was advertised as a world phone, but I dunno if that means the phone is unlocked)
And last question, should I flash the radio? it has 1.88.07WV
I don't expect I would have internet access were I'm going, just trying to bang this out now. Sorry for links like they are, member for a long time reading, I just don't post.
I would flash the newest VZ radio (2.37WV).
Also, as I understand it the SIM slot is only locked from US carriers - so if you want to use the device on a US carrier, you have to do the SIM unlock. However, (again this is how I've always understood it) if you just want to use it internationally, it should "just work". Just need to make sure you force it in GSM mode.
Thanks, I just updated the radio, hopefully its good to go... but I see they sell DTAC sims on ebay, so I'll grab one of those... as far as I can tell, I should know right away if I need the unlock code.

Virgin mobile version on T-Mobile?

I thought for sure I had read somewhere that you could use this phone on T-Mobile as it has the proper bands ....is that wrong?
I can't seem to find any way to unlock this version of the phone. I went through the usual Ebay people and they said they can't do it.
I got a sweet deal on it ($30) but I won't even open the box I'll just return it if I can't unlock it. Virgin Mobile being the garbage company they are won't do it.
Thanks!

you can't. Sprint has it setup you have to have it active on there network for 2-3 months and boost is a year. Now what you should do is buy an unlocked Moto g6 play cause then you could use it on tmo

Garbage company? It's Sprint. It's owned by sprint. I got unlimited data, no throttling, and tethering for 60 bucks. Rooted with a couple extras.
Maybe try not to trash the people reading this. I use virgin Mobile, man I'm just kidding myself on a garbage company because it's all I can get. Nice.
Don't turn it on with the original SIM in it. Pull the Sim out first. Then try putting whatever Sim you plan to use before ever turn it on even once. That's the best chance you have of it working.
Next time pay full price for an unlocked version. Instead of the "garbage" price, on the "garbage" network.
With the rest of us "garbage"
The end
Dang, you seem triggered. Maybe try some ssri's.
I get unlimited everything through teltik for $40 a month so I'm good. I'll just sell it to some shmuck for a profit. No stress here. Thanks for that moment of levity however, good stuff.

LG-G710TM Unlocked by T-Mobile on Verizon?

Purchased from T-Mobile a year ago, all paid off, and permanently SIM unlocked by T-Mobile app (white-listed by T-Mobile so it would unlock). So, the phone is free and clear. I think the answer may be self-evident in the model numbrer, but can an unlocked LG-G710TM work on Verizon? When I pop in my Verizon SIM (from S10), it registers on the voice network, but mobile data won't connect. The firmware (still v8.0.0) is all T-Mobile. Went to Verizon store, wait for the shock and horror, and they gave up after basic settings changes.
Just for kicks, if the 710TM can only work on T-Mobile, that makes unlocking this model somewhat pointless, no?
Thanks for any quick hits.

Back up your phone and flash with G710VM firmware which should allow it to work on Verizon. See link below with instructions.

Starting at post #55 in that thread, it says cross flashing the 710TM will brick it. Gotta ask the dumb question: did you point me there knowing that cross flashing the T-Mobile to Verizon will work or just knowing that there was a cross flashing thread that works for most G7s?
I"m appreciative for the help either way.

I don't have TM version so I was unaware of such restriction. My apologies the method will not work on your device.
If entering the Verizon APN info in (which I'm assuming the employees at VZW tried) still failed to produce results, then yes, you may be out of luck (however you could make use of a prepaid network that uses the T-Mobile bands such as Mint Mobile or sell it as a white-listed phone). This is why there are many of us with LG phones that wish they'd just release one model per device, as the Qualcomm chip used supports a wide range of bands used by various providers.
