What specific function are you trying to unlock? There is an application unlock in the "themes and apps" subforum for the Rodium. It is on the 2nd or 3rd post of the stickied "software worth installing" thread. This will allow you to run unsigned applications and such. If you mean unlock the sim card, there may be a cab for that... but I haven't looked into it.

The Sprint TP2 is unlocked for use with GSM SIM cards overseas, but you need to flash a new radio in order to use a ATT or T-Mobile SIM.

Sorry that I was unclear before. What I meant is I would like to run the phone on ATT or T-Mobile after buying the phone from Sprint. There's a sim card in the phone but there must be something else I have to do, right?
Edit: Actually, there isn't a sim card in the phone. I don't think the phone had one when I bought it. Do I need to get one?
Umm, yeah. You need a ATT or TMob SIM card in order to get service from those carriers. But it will work on Sprint without a SIM, CDMA uses a different chip, not SIM, which is embedded on the phone's motherboard.
Also, you will need to SIM unlock the phone for it to work on ATT or TMob.

The Sprint version of the phone is unlocked to work abroad with foreign SIMs, but you need to unlock it to work on ATT or TMob.
I'm not speaking from experience here, just reading the info available. Go to the CDMA subforum for Rhodium for (lots) more info.

Ok, this is probably a stupid question but I can't seem to find an answer anywhere I look.
I got a SIM Unlock code from TMobile and everywhere I read the only way of entering it is to insert a non-TMO SIM.
I can't find my old AT&T SIM card to do this... So is there any way to get to enter the unlock code either without a SIM card at all or with the current TMO SIM?
I don't want to have to pester my friends to use their SIM cards.
Any ideas?

It has been a while since I did this, but I didn't have to change my SIM card to unlock my phone. It has been several years, and that was an HP phone...
However, maybe you could pick up a cheap one on ebay?

Bribe them maybe? LOL seriously though, you'll need to get your hands on a card from another carrier to make this happen in the TP2, just for a few seconds.
Could you maybe just provide the unlock code you have now to whoever will be using the phone with a different SIM, and let them handle that last step of unlocking?

That person would be me. I just like having it unlocked just in case. Even if I have no intention of switching providers yet.
But seriously, I don't understand why HTC did not implement an option to unlock a phone without physically switching SIM's. Oh well, I guess I will need to do that then.

thats not possible it only shows for unlocking code when there is a sim card which is locked to network...

Did you go over this with T-Mobile customer service? When I got my HP unlocked, there was a sequence I went through that caused the phone to ask me for the unlock code.
I think I just came across it...onslaught86 just posted over in the HD2 forums about a SIMLock app in the windows folder...run that and you should get the same screen you get if you put a different carrier's card in and boot the phone. Full credit def to onslaught...I had no idea such a thing existed

I hope this works, cause I'm in the exact same situation. I used to have an old T-Mobile prepaid SIM that I used just for this purpose, but apparently I've misplaced it. The Tilt 2 is at work, I'll try it first thing tomorrow.
what is the most dependable site to get the code from or is there a free way to unlock it?? i need to know asap....

so, i recently bought this phone new in box. opened the box, inserted my sim and it does not recognize it. now i should mention that i use walmart family mobile as my carrier. could that be my problem? i'm told that t-mobile phones work since there a branch of t-mobile but so far no luck. im going from a captivate to this phone, so the sim was bigger. i used the template deal and cut it down to the micro sim size which i thought could be my problem but the sim happily works in the captivate. any help with this would be greatly appreciated. i will answer all questions to my greatest abilities and i apologize in advance if im the 18th person to ask this today like other questions

You can not swap SIM cards from one provider to another unless your phone is unlocked..
You need to purchase a T-Mobile SIM card kit...

but this works with other t-mobile phones and i know this because i have done it without an unlock, but those were older older phones like the s1 and s2. does the t999l specifically pick a fight? maybe a quirk of 4.1.2?

I believe in order for this to work on this device, you would need to unlock it..
I'm no expert, but this is my personal experience..
In order for me to test this, I would have to have both devices and YOUR sim card..

well a man can hope right? and from my extensive research i have found that because of the fancy L the only way to unlock this is via a dude on ebay, or a code directly from t-mobile. i doubt t-mobile would do this for a non-contract phone though. it certainly does suck to suck.

"Doesn't recognize it" please explain what exactly what is happening. If it is still asking for a SIM to be inserted, you will need a new SIM, but if it is asking for a Unlock PIN Code or similar, then you will need to unlock the phone to use with a non-TMo provider. Personally, I think that since you cut the SIM and it is not lining up. You should get a new (factory made, not cut) Micro-SIM. Also, I believe that it should work with Simple, Straight Talk and Walmart Family on any TMo phone.

"Sprint lock" is not a typical term. You might mean "locked to Sprint" or "carrier locked", which yes that would be the same as SIM locked.
You can easily find out if its SIM locked, by putting in another carrier's (besides Sprint) SIM. If it asks for an unlock code, its SIM locked. If it just works (gets at least voice service and SMS) than its not SIM locked.
If its Sprint branded, and not factory unlocked or otherwise modified, I believe it should be SIM locked.
Also, questions belong in the Q&A section. So I'll ask the mods to move this thread.

I have no idea what "all the videos" means.
If you mean the free mod (with s-off) the XDA thread specifically says it doesn't work for Sprint: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708572
But you may be able to use a paid service to SIM unlock.

I saw that thread, it seem to be :
1. not work for Sprint
2. HTC closed that "hole" and now this won't work.
I guess I will have to find another way

1) I already stated that the method won't work for Sprint.
2) It depends on the hboot number, it may still work for older hboots on non-Sprint devices that have not been updated (and a good number of users are still on older hboots).
3) You can try a paid online unlock service. Many services will only charge if the unlock is successful. So its worth looking into, and often costs less than $10 US.

I have a carrier unlocked T-Mobile s8+ and need to use a Verizon SIM in it and am getting errors trying to use a verizon SIM. The Verizon SIM is from another phone and is already registered. I put the IMEI number of the phone into Verizons web portal to test compatibility and it failed. Does that mean there is no way to get this combination to work? Does the IMEI need to be in the VZW database for this to work? Will flashing XAA guarantee this to work? Thanks for any help and advice.

do u have a tmobile phone, it is different than the carrier unlocked phone, those are 2 different models,
the carrier unlocked.. the sim is unlocked..
the tmobile is not carrier unlocked, and by flashing the firmware of the unlocked version, will NOT unlock the sim.. u will need to device unlock app with the tmobile phone 1st... and usually tmobile will NOT unlock unless u have paid it off and using on their system for 40 days..
others like me had it unlocked with days of service, cause we are tmobile customers for years already... I on the other hand bought the phone on ebay from someone who bought it from Samsung and the imei was not added to tmobile system and I had to call tmobile to add the imei which took about 3 days, then to call back to request the sim unlock which took another 3 days, the device unlock app unlocked the phone instantly...
that was my process for me to get the sim unlock... but if urs it not unlocked and is paid off, another way to get it unlocked it to give it to someone u know, let them use it and call tmobile to start the above process...
Hope that sums up what must be done...

Hi thanks for the explanation, I am pretty familiar with the differences between carrier (SIM) unlock and unlocked firmware as I have flashed Android in the past. I had the phone carrier (SIM) unlocked by T-Mobile through their app and I was still not able to use the Verizon SIM in my phone (not registered error). It turns out (and I found this out by reading through the many messages in this forum) that T-Mobile firmware apparently disables some frequencies that other carriers may use. Once I flashed the XAA unlocked *firmware*, I popped in my Verizon SIM and it worked like a charm. Good to know, but sound weird, thought T-Mobile phones work for all gsm Sims just needing to change apn,
But now cdma merging with gsm, that's so much better as far as phones go, use any phone now from any provider.
Look how the s8 plus is all the same software and the same hardware, just different carrier stuff..

I thought it was weird too. Busted my head for a couple of days trying to figure it out. Is Verizon still CDMA? *scratches head*
Yes, their 3g and 2g networks are CDMA.
If you insert Verizon sim into T-mobile phone, you'll get LTE data, but you won't be able to make calls. Only data will work. T-mobile firmware support band 2, 4 and 13, so you should have data, but not phone service. If you don't have data icon, you'll need add Verizon apn.
FYI
Flashing the phone with G955U1 firmware fixed this issue. I am now able to use this successfully on Verizon.
