Ok, this is probably a stupid question but I can't seem to find an answer anywhere I look.
I got a SIM Unlock code from TMobile and everywhere I read the only way of entering it is to insert a non-TMO SIM.
I can't find my old AT&T SIM card to do this... So is there any way to get to enter the unlock code either without a SIM card at all or with the current TMO SIM?
I don't want to have to pester my friends to use their SIM cards.
Any ideas?

It has been a while since I did this, but I didn't have to change my SIM card to unlock my phone. It has been several years, and that was an HP phone...
However, maybe you could pick up a cheap one on ebay?

Bribe them maybe? LOL seriously though, you'll need to get your hands on a card from another carrier to make this happen in the TP2, just for a few seconds.
Could you maybe just provide the unlock code you have now to whoever will be using the phone with a different SIM, and let them handle that last step of unlocking?

That person would be me. I just like having it unlocked just in case. Even if I have no intention of switching providers yet.
But seriously, I don't understand why HTC did not implement an option to unlock a phone without physically switching SIM's. Oh well, I guess I will need to do that then.

Did you go over this with T-Mobile customer service? When I got my HP unlocked, there was a sequence I went through that caused the phone to ask me for the unlock code.
I think I just came across it...onslaught86 just posted over in the HD2 forums about a SIMLock app in the windows folder...run that and you should get the same screen you get if you put a different carrier's card in and boot the phone. Full credit def to onslaught...I had no idea such a thing existed

I hope this works, cause I'm in the exact same situation. I used to have an old T-Mobile prepaid SIM that I used just for this purpose, but apparently I've misplaced it. The Tilt 2 is at work, I'll try it first thing tomorrow.

Didn't I answer this exact question like 2 weeks ago???
This exact question from the same exact person, in fact.
huh? well are you guys gonna help me or what lol a week ago i aint have the code now i do so can you guys help or what?
You do not need an international sim card. You do need a sim card from another carrier. When you put the sim card from another carrier in the phone, it will ask you for a code. Enter the code from tmobile. This will unlock your phone.
Currently, your phone will only work with tmobile network. An unlock phone can be use with any GSM carrier. This is useful when you travel internationally. You can buy a prepaid sim card and use your phone to make calls.
I get invalid sim with every one i use on a phone (have tried 3 from 2 different providers), tried making better contact between the sim and the phone and also cleaning the sim and it makes no difference.
Is there any way i can check if this phone is properly unlocked? Don't wanna pay for an unlock and find out that wasn't the problem.

You might have bought your device from some carrier, or operator, like T-mobile, At&T, Orange, Vodafone or something...
If So.. you also got a sim card from them...
To check if it is unlocked is extremely simple...
Turn your phone off, put another carrier´s sim card and then turn it on... If it asks for a code, it´s locked... If not, then it´s unlocked.
It will not tell you it´s an invalid sim card, unless:
1 - Your device is damaged
2 - The sim card you´re trying to use is for 3G networks
Remember...Excalibur is not 3G.
It´s simple like that...
Regards.

Did you buy it already unlocked? or did you get it unlocked? In either case you should have the SIM unlock code. If it is unlocked using any SIM from any provider other then T-Mo will work, if its not working its not unlocked.

Pretty much what Bupahs said, and also you pretty much answered your question, you said tried different sims and it says invalid sims. Is not unlocked. Here's an idea, get your hands on a tmobile sim card, and try it, if you don't get an invalid sim error, then you know for sure that is not unlocked.

I got it already unlocked, thing is i got 2 and one worked right off the bat, the other gives the invalid sim message. Getting 2 and having 1 work fine is mostly what leads me to believe the one with problems is not unlocked at all (or maybe it's not properly unlocked).

I can't get a T-Mob sim since i'm overseas =/
What do you guys think of the unlock code services on ebay? Are they reliable? They are 1/4th of the price of imei-check.
Thanks

Hello everyone,
I just received an unlock code from AT&T and it stats to power off the Samsung S3, insert a non AT&T sim card which I did (used a t-mobile) and input the pass code when prompt. I was never prompt to put in the unlock passcode.
I did noticed I had two signal arrows and a voicemail from t-mobile and the APN was already filled out with t-Mobiles network info.
I am not trying to use t-mobile, just want to unlock it so I can sell it.
Is my phone already unlocked?
Sounds like it
yup
yup...your unlocked now.
Is there a way to find out for sure?
Yes If it is not giving an invalid sim error then it is already unlocked

Did you buy the phone new?
I bought the phone off someone but he never used it so its new per the guy I bought it from.
so, i recently bought this phone new in box. opened the box, inserted my sim and it does not recognize it. now i should mention that i use walmart family mobile as my carrier. could that be my problem? i'm told that t-mobile phones work since there a branch of t-mobile but so far no luck. im going from a captivate to this phone, so the sim was bigger. i used the template deal and cut it down to the micro sim size which i thought could be my problem but the sim happily works in the captivate. any help with this would be greatly appreciated. i will answer all questions to my greatest abilities and i apologize in advance if im the 18th person to ask this today like other questions

You can not swap SIM cards from one provider to another unless your phone is unlocked..
You need to purchase a T-Mobile SIM card kit...

but this works with other t-mobile phones and i know this because i have done it without an unlock, but those were older older phones like the s1 and s2. does the t999l specifically pick a fight? maybe a quirk of 4.1.2?

I believe in order for this to work on this device, you would need to unlock it..
I'm no expert, but this is my personal experience..
In order for me to test this, I would have to have both devices and YOUR sim card..

well a man can hope right? and from my extensive research i have found that because of the fancy L the only way to unlock this is via a dude on ebay, or a code directly from t-mobile. i doubt t-mobile would do this for a non-contract phone though. it certainly does suck to suck.

"Doesn't recognize it" please explain what exactly what is happening. If it is still asking for a SIM to be inserted, you will need a new SIM, but if it is asking for a Unlock PIN Code or similar, then you will need to unlock the phone to use with a non-TMo provider. Personally, I think that since you cut the SIM and it is not lining up. You should get a new (factory made, not cut) Micro-SIM. Also, I believe that it should work with Simple, Straight Talk and Walmart Family on any TMo phone.
OK, so this weekend I decided to try my AT&T SIM Card with my Note 4 from Sprint. I thought it would ask me for a SIM unlock code or something but it recognized the card and showed "3G". However, I got the card icon which said "Invalid SIM Card".
Any idea why I did not get the prompt to input unlock code? Thanks!

The sim inside the sprint note 4 is only to access the LTE network. So since you took the sprint sim out, you would be only receiving 3g. That is why you are receiving the invalid sim card error, because its not using it.

So I am getting that error because the SIM card is not using LTE? I don't get it. If the phone is unlocked, shouldn't it ask for an unlock code?

There's been plenty of discussion in this forum about bringing SM-N910P to other networks. I'm no expert, haven't done it myself but what I read repeatedly posted is that radios in this version did not allow LTE on domestic carriers when unlocked. Seems a common issue with phones made for CDMA carriers; taking them to another carrier may not meet your expectations. If the limitations are acceptable, maybe you consider going ahead and weigh your options.
Again, there's plenty of threads in this forum discussing this but here's one that I found that may help. To me, it's been rare for @idone to post these days but he posted here.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I am aware that the Sprint Note 4 would give me 3G or H+ but not LTE which is fine by me. I was wondering why the phone did not ask me for the Unlock code to begin with when I threw a GSM card in there.

Did you find your answer? Or still asking?
It's likely Sprint will give you a MSL number but not unlock the phone to use on domestic carriers. I think you still need to unlock it for that purpose. But the developer I referred you to can do this with or without the MSL. His tools are capable; his service is a full unlock for domestic. I don't think you need the unlock for carriers outside the U.S. the way the phone is currently. Sprint may clear a phone for domestic carrier use but not unlock it or help you activate it. You'll likely find no carrier to help you unlock it either.
I'm sure there are ways to do it yourself but it's gotten more complex with Lollipop and Marshmallow. I'm just not sure how it's done because I haven't fully done it. Only walked through it partially back in KitKat but kept Sprint SIM and service. Didn't try another SIM card.

No I'm still looking for an answer. I have messaged idone on their website and sent a PM. I need this unlocked and take it to H2O. Sprint gave me the MSL code to be given to a GSM carrier but I call BS on that. Strange thing is the damn phone recognizes the AT&T SIM card as a 3G card all right but still says "Invalid SIM Card".

No expert here, but dont you need an AT&T SIM card that has your phone unique ID info programmed into it so it registers on AT&Ts network?
I thought the MSL would just unlock an area in the phone where you would change DNS type info to AT&T's towers/network.
