Please Help!
I can't seem to get an update (2.3.4) for my Xperia PLAY. This is the Verizon model, (R800x), and I really want the screen capture/autofocusing camera!
It says something like "No available updates."
Help! (no, it's not rooted.)

hahahahahahaha... We're gonna have to wait for verizon, it took 'em about a month and a half (if I remember right) after sony ericson created the update for verizon to push it to us with 2.3.3

Screw waiting on AT&T to do it... you can use the generic and not have to deal with AT&T's bull**** bloatware. Even if yours is a R800at instead of an R800a it'll work.
Me and my local Xperia PLAY'in partner crime have both done it, and it's been nothing but marvelous.
For an R800x user... ehh... not sure if there's such a lucky, easy solution (I'm not even sure how CDMA users would retain their activation info after a flash since they don't have the ease and freedom of a SIM card)
Oh. So Verizon hasn't released it yet. Thanks for the notification...
I agree, Forgot Verizons vanilla android, it does not give you the real experience of the Xperia play. Sony Ericsson Launcher is really nice too.

Will I lose any of the games that come with the stock AT&T Rom if I use the generic one?

Which carrier in USA will have Xperia S?
Thanks
AT&T will have Ion version.

Oh Xperia S...T-Mobile users welcome you any day.
...pretty please?
Guessing AT&T and T-Mobile.
My guess is none of them. Ion is LTE and both Verizon and AT&T charge a premium for 4G data plans.
They would rather lock users in to the monthly increase so this would leave the S out of the picture.

US always gets phones late because carriers like to screw it up before they release. And the usual addition of LTE radio and few other stuff.
i hope this phone comes to tmobile USA with the 1700 band so i can continue using my $6 tzone on it to get 3G speed...
Is there a version with 5 3G bands?
You can purchase one on eBay,but it is hideously expensive. T-Mobile wants to ban phone subsidies, which might be a good thing. I like unlocked better, no bloatware other than the phone manufacturer. Plus, you might get around limited data.

sorry for such a newbie question, but if the bootloader is locked, how this guy here can sell the AT&T version and unlock it?

He is probably relying on a service that will get the unlock code but I'm not aware of any that have unlock codes for the ion. Its exclusive to AT&T so I seriously doubt you can get it unlocked for at least a few months. You can't even buy one unlocked in the US for full price.

Yeah, more than likely it'll be pretty much a repeat of the x10a only (since a lot of the ground work done) quicker process. We'll all end up w sum variant of the stock sony rom(or any but att) w custom recovery. I was never able to do much of anything w the stock usa roms, come to think of it not even sure att saw GB, don't think so. eb

But my question is, how long before someone does? The bootloader being locked just bums me out. I really want this phone. And the price is making it really possible for me, but I almost feel like I should just wait even longer for something else, or pay the $200 for a GS III.
I really need to get my hands on the Ion. Has anyone gone into a BB or ATT store to get theirs and seen a demo unit?
I have ... the phone looks and feels great. i've read a few reports of signal issues. i think i'm going to wait a few weeks and get two one for me and one for my girl mid july for the price... and ics coming soon... it's a dopeass phone for sure. i loved the way it felt in my hand the screen is gorgeous. the camera was super fast too... idk it was nice.

This was the answer from the ebay seller:
" I can unlock the phone for $30 extra. It is a factory unlock and not through special ROMS which allows you to keep all stock Sony firmware. It is a permanent factory unlock."
I´m not from the US and I´m looking to buy either a Xperia S or Xperia Ion. As the Ion is newer, would like to go for it. I will be in the US by mid july but still looking to find for a good price for a non-contract and unlocked, but it seems that Ion will be higher anyway. If the unlocking would be a easy thing, I would by the no contract phone at Sony store for example, but it seems I will have to go for the Xperia S
I would be leary of anyone who promises they can unlock the BL at this point. Unfortunately there's absolutely no way of knowing for sure if and when this will happen for the att "unlock not allowed model". eb

From that eBay quote, sounds like he must be selling the international version of the ion(lt28i) not the AT&T ion(lt28at). That's the only way I can think of for the unlocked with Sony factory firmware settings.

And i say definitely ion.... Yes sgs3 has ics and lots and lots but i just love ui of ion and its design plus that no samsung phone has ever worked for me for more than 6 months but any sony or sonyericsson worked for me for years i still have the sony z7 and it works super

Google GSM can unlock phone to use on t-mobile $29.99
This guy is advertising that he can unlock the phone for $25
http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...-Xperia-ion-LTE-LT28-to-use-with-T-Mobile-USA
The only thing is when you go to purchase it locked to Canada and Rogers so I can not sure about it.
The ion will be one hell of a device if we can just get passed the issue of unlocking for ATT :/ really wish i had an international one just so i can play with it. i really hate the bloat ware they are shipped with. all in all preformance and hardware wise i see the ion staying alive for a few years. longer than what the x10 did in my opinion.

The 2 USA CDMA carriers that will accept your unlocked R800x is Cricket and Pageplus. Thats it no boost mobile (they dont accept unlocked phones on their service now I think) or tmobile (GSM). Also if your asking if you can flash it yourself for free you cant. You need purchase software and know what your doing.

Hey guys,
I was curious if there was a particular model of XP I should get. Im not going to be using the XP as an actual phone but more as a mobile emulator/game station because I like the size and gaming features. I notice that theres a ATT and Verizon model, is one preferred over the other? And also are their and custom roms for people who dont plan to use this device as a phone? Like with the cell radios disabled and phone/text apps etc removed? Thanks!

The Verizon model is a CDMA version and does not use a SIM. ROM wise, I think CDMA models have different ROMS and GSM ROMS aren't compatible.
AT&T is a GSM model but they do not allow the bootloader to be unlocked, if I recall correctly.
You should probably get a R800i version if available. (Verizon's is R800x and AT&T's is R800at)
I have the At&t version, yes the bootloader is locked but testpoint unlock is easily possible. You can use flashmode for firmware and kernels but it has to be .ftf format. There are threads with many converted kernels and firmwares. I personally love having a sim card to switch between phones, and there is no shortage of GSM roms.

ebay has them for $100-150ish. I know because I sold my international R800a for $100 bucks.
Even though its a great device, keep in mind that its outdated in hardware and software, so u may find some games lagging or having problems.

I have an Xperia ZL that was reported as stolen by someone (who I don't know, but I bought it from a store and have receipts). Rogers refuses to un-blacklist the IMEI from their system, even though I've sent them scanned copies of the receipts to the now out of business store in Toronto. It's pointless now because I bought a Z1 from the Sony store a few weeks ago.
I now have a ZL, it is factory carrier-unlocked, that is on the latest software (4.3). It has a carrier locked bootloader and isn't rooted. What can I do with this device?
Some notes:
I have WiFi and Bluetooth, however it wont connect to any Canadian network. I have tried with Bell, Rogers and Telus.
Since there's no cellular connectivity, it's useless as a reliable GPS. I also have an in-dash GPS with a 12" screen
I drive a 2 seater and don't have kids, so it's useless to be a mini-tablet device, or in-car media player.
I have no qualms with trying to unlock the BL if possible, rooting, or flashing stuff, so long as there's decent documentation on it.

Maybe you can find a solution.
I asked Doom if he wanted the phone, he said no thanks as he was too busy with school/other projects.
What was the store ? Probably was stolen from a shipping warehouse, happens a lot. Call Sony and see what they can do for you... If its locked in Canada, its should work in the USA....

I'd be tempted to try and dev... but not with my primary driver... hmmm....
Is the boot loader unlockable?
If you could find a way to generate a generic IMEI it should work again. I did something similar with my Samsung Captivate Glide to unlock it. It was somewhere in /efs/, but Sony uses a different storage scheme for such important files so I'm not sure where you could find it. You should obviously back it up though if you do find it.
Maybe you can send the phone to FXP team or OMNI team, so they have a phone for bug testing, :good:
Gotta loooove Rogers!! I'm surprised it doesn't work with another carrier?? So its obvious than that these companies share information. I think this says it all...
