This morning I needed to search for a place on Maps starting with an S. But I can't do it! Each time I start a search pressing S, the keyboard disappears and leaves the maps full screen as if I have exited the search function. I also cannot search on Google because of the same problem. But I CAN search in Mail and it's okay!!! A weird one I know.
Help!!!!
This is a round about way of doing it, but.... Try inserting a letter before the s in the location. For example, H. So if you want to search for sacramento, enter Hsacramento, then move the cursor and delete the H and push enter/search.

Or you could use a different keyboard. Try SwiftKey from the Market, its awesome

Yes, that does seem a workaround - thanks. But I was really hoping someone might be able to explain why this is all of a sudden happening. I am using Swype. I have now discovered that if I use the keyboard that comes with Sense it is all okay so I assume this is now a Swype problem? I'll email them and let them know.
That's interesting, I use Swype too but have never had any issues. I'd say yeah let them know.

Perhaps you are using an old version of Swype? Always be sure to have the latest version of Swype!

Hey guys
So I installed swiftkey to try out a new keyboard and I did not like. So I uninstalled it. Bit now I have different keyboard. Its not the original Desire stock one. How do I select the original keyboard?
Thanks all!

Not sure how that's happened or how to change it if the settings "language & keyboard" menu doesn't change it back (sorry), just thought I'd mention that if you didn't like swiftkey, give Ultra keyboard a go. It's fantastic.
My swype beta recently expired, and after searching for alternatives I came across this one. So much better than swype. You can customize practically everything. You can change it's skin too, and all the free skins on the market place for the "better keyboard" also work!
There is a trial period before you pay for it, but trust me it's well worth it.

Thanks. However my country doesn't support paid apps.

try a long press in a txt area and see what pops up.
I installed ultra keyboard anyway and while installing it showed me how to change the keyboard. Back on the stick one now!
Thanks!

Hey guys, have a quick question for you. I swapped to core droid rom and now my gmail will recieve but won't send. This rom is great nut I need my email.. .any help its appreciated!
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Just go to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Gmail, then clear cache and clear data (you will probably lose any draft messages that haven't been sent). You might need to restart also, but it should send fine after that.
I had the same problem just a few days ago. I had this happen a few months ago, but I had to look it up recently myself. This issue seems to happen sometimes when you switch ROMs.
Thank you, I will give that a try!

That worked like a charm! Again, thank you! Now if I could just get my swype back.. lol!

Your welcome, happy it worked for you. Be sure to click the "Thanks" button on my post that helped you.
What's your problem with Swype? Do you have a Swype beta login? Just re-download the installer, and you should be good to go.
I've tried the beta from swype but it always says it's expired and won't work. It installed but the screen just turns blue around the keys. Where do I go to hit the thanks button?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Swype just had a major update, requiring the installer to be manually uninstalled, and the new version of it downloaded and installed (also manually). So uninstall Swype, and the Swype installer, then browse to the Swype beta website on your phone, login, and download the new installer. Run the installer again, and you should be good to go.
I don't think the XDA app has the "Thanks" button. If you go XDA using the browser, the "Thanks" button is at the bottom of each person's post.
Ok, I will do that tonight. Do I Judy go to the swype website ?

Did Google remove the press to hold and change keyboard input option? I keep having to go change it in settings and that's a bit of an annoyance. I like to change keyboards every so often.

When you bring up the keyboard, there is an icon on the top notification bar. Select from there.
Finally, some Swype action!

Okay, so that's what that was. Lol. I was becoming frustrated that the little icon was up there so I assumed it was Swype spamming me. Thanks a lot! I guess it doesn't show up until you have more than one keyboard available.

has anyone been able to download any language files?
it seems the download capability is broken. I couldn't download any language files or dragon feature.
p.s.
Downloading works but it just needs some time.
Downloading the additional languages seems a little buggy. Sometimes the option completely disappears from the menus( even whilst being connected to wifi the whole time). It's not a conclusive method of getting the menu option back but I think running the swype setup/installer app when swype is already installed seemed to bring it back for me. Then several times when opening the download languages menu it sat with the loading twirly for ages and ages.
Also when finally getting the list of languages and downloading my desired language, the downloading was fairly fast but installing took ages.
What was also funny was swype had defaulted to Spanish when I first downloaded it and I was wondering why it's predictions had become so seemingly odd....

You can't. It's the way you change keyboard in ICS (except stock keyboard which is long press space).
The norification will stay there unless Swype implements the ICS way to change keyboard.
I'm using Swype whole mounth. build that I found works perfectly in my g nexus.
I can give apk if somebody wants. Also it supports lots of languages.

and I don't have any keyboard icon at top bar. It works how it must (like in 2.3).
But there one BUT: it uses nuance dictation (or dragon) that's no t so cool as default goggle's

You're using the hacked version, which is already online. This thread is about the OFFICIAL one which cannot be shared as it'd be classed as warez
Has anybody gotten Flesky working on their note 2 and if so what wus the modifications done to get it working? Is there an app that let the phone randomly switch keyboards??

Caan you post a link to this? I tried searching and market and cannot find it ?
It's not in the market. I found an apk here on xda by searching on Google for it. I forget which thread, but I didn't like it. It's still in beta though

I got this link signed_Flexo.apk - 29.90 MB[/URL. From somewhere here on xda. Sorry but I can't find the right post I found it in I have looked in so many lol. So far its not bad but its got a ways to go. No auto punctuation no auto capitalization after a period and if it chooses a word for you then that's the word you get, no correction bar choose yourself. Big one for me is no period in main keyboard, but it is a beta afterall.

How did you get it to work on the note 2 please explain Mister? Lol thanks
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
I just downloaded that .apk and installed and went into language and input in settings and choose it. There are a few .apks that wont work, I think I tried 4 or 5 before I found the one linked to that worked.
I spent most of the afternoon yesterday getting it working & testing it out on my note & it's pretty cool, but far from ready. It does have correction, by sliding up or down after you type the word. You can cycle through all the possible suggestions by sliding down for next, or up for previous.
Punctuation is done with two swipes to the right, and the symbol keyboard comes up with a swipe up from the bottom right. It's very simplistic, even to the point that you can hide the spacebar & just slide for spaces or punctuation.
I had to use a modded version because the original beta authenticates via device & email address. I'll put the version i found up if anyone wants to try.

Hi guys, I just wanna start off by saying I'm not sure if this is the right section, so correct me if I'm wrong. I want a keyboard similar to Google's for nexus devices, noe on the play store, but 5 row. Yes, I mean a number row on the top. Is there an app like this or an apk? If there is, can someone share it? Thanks.

I know there are keyboards in the store that have this. I know PerfectKeyboard does. With it I'm pretty sure you can display it all the time.

The only keyboard that I know of with the number row on top is the note2 keyboard. You can download it (or try nearly every other one) from the ported apps link in my sig. I dont even know of any like that in the play store either.
Ok, sorry, PK doesn't have it as a default option. I was thinking of the arrow keys. However, you can edit the punctuation in the suggestion bar to be numbers instead of punctuation. Only drawback is when you are typing a word it shows suggestions instead. Or you could turn that feature off.
