I'm getting sprint soon and already have an evo and didn't really see in the threads if 4g was working or not. Maybe it wasn't mentioned cause it is but before I root I have to ask. Also, what is a very stable AOSP based rom. I can look at the threads but that isn't going to tell me. Im not asking what is the best just what is the most stable. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Most of the threads do tell you, actually, in the OP for each ROM, but yes, it's working on MOST ROMs. The exceptions are some of the newer ones and MIUI

Specifically the Sense 3.5 roms, and the working ICS port.

Are none of the Sense GB ROM's ever going to have 4G? I've looked at several and none of them have 4G.
Probably not until it comes officially

Didn't the new GingerSense rom give 4G capabilities?
posting & replying via the XDA Premium app.
None of the Sense 2.0 GB ROMs right now will have 4g. Until a Sense 2.0 ROM is released for the Evo, it probably won't happen.
The Sense 2.0 GB ROMs are all ports from other devices with no Wimax, so it's not going to work.

I was under the impression that it did.
I know it does....lol....but the OP may be referring to the Sense 2.0 roms that you correctly referenced....

I figured it did. I don't like to say I know though, esp if I haven't tried it. Thanks for pointing that out though, I forgot to mention it.
Ahh that sucks... 4G is becoming a real deal breaker for me when choosing ROMS that is why I stopped using MIUI . I want to use what I'm paying for. =/

Is anyone working on porting Sense 2.x to the leaked Gingerbread ROM? Seems like that would be the easiest way to do it. Not sure if it's even possible, though.
I don't think it's possible. Sense is too tangled in. Otherwise, they could have just taken sense 2.0 and put it over the Evo's Android and had working everything instead of porting all the Z ROMs to get Sense 2.0 on Froyo.
The original leak that was made flashable by Tmartin had 4g but only Sense 1.0 but it was android 2.3.3
A friend of mine has an EVO, I do not nor have I ever used an evo before. He wanted a custom ROM installed and asked me for help. I would greatly appreciate any help offered by the community.
1. What ROM is closest to stock(If gingerbread is out for it then a gingerbread build would be nice), just tweaked/debloated/deodexed/zip aligned etc.
2. How well is CM7 running on the EVO? I have a captivate and CM7 right now is pretty unstable this is going to be his main ROM and he isnt too technical.
3. What rom has a good/easy update flow. Maybe something with rom manager where he can just click update and all is well in the world.
Thank you SO much in advance.

There are plenty of stock roms and there is a couple gingerbread floating around somewhere i believe as well so your winning on that.
Cm7 i believe is very stable rom and many people enjoy it. Not me but people really enjoy cyanogens work.
Food for the thought process:
Root..in case you haven't done it already and still can:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838448
In my opinion..best option for stock Rom to flash when rooted:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1120840
As far as the one click auto update option...you know what your getting yourself into right (as far as setting it up for your friend and then walking away)...lol.

Thanks for the input. I was considering cm7 only because with rom manager its easy to update. I have to see if he wants sense.

Flashing a Custom (even stock) Rom and then not wanting to update to the latest and greatest...ya....ok....NOT. Your friend will get a taste of what this is like and BOOM...hooked. The Rom I linked has a great OP in support. Enjoy the fun that you already know is gonna take hold of the phone your about to set free!
EDIT: Thought I'm sure this goes without saying, but will do anyway. Remind them......DO NOT...accept OTA updates even if they can...just sayin..lmao
CM7 or Death! I played with a lot of Sense roms for quite a while, but I determined they are nothing but bloat. CM7 is superfast, and I couldn't ask for much more in stability.

Assuming he is willing to update himself I would if course tell him to do so.
Custom rom plus official ota equals me laughing at him lol. Funny and not funny at the same time lol.

I'm glad to hear its stable. If he is willing to give up sense and cm is stable then I might encourage him that way.
How is the battery life and do you have access to 4g speeds?
Also I have seen the new sense on the sensation... Man if its bloat its the sexiest bloat I have ever seen.

I was wondering if someone could give me a few basic tips on porting a rom. There arent very many roms for our phones but i would like to port a few that i like. (specifically from international GSII) Ill take any help, thanks
If you are looking to flash a rom, there are some detailed instructions in the Dev forum. In particular the thread for the Starburst rom. The first post has all the downloads you will need and there are some more detailed instructions on one of the posts from October 10th or 11th. Your device will of course need to be rooted in order for this to work.

Porting from international version is going to be really difficult due to the different radio's in it, and you would never get WiMax to work if you tried, even if you got it to boot up
my reccomendation would be to try grabbing a rom you like from another CDMA/WiMax Samsung device and try it, except the only one would be the Epic 4G, and the slideout keyboard orientation might ruin some stuff when porting....... so at this point, unfortunately, i dont think porting a rom is in anyones future for a little while at least til we get an AOSP kernel
cheers!
Hi guys, so I've been having these issues on AOKP/AOSP ROMs for some time. WiFi takes a lot of time to connect, and while connecting, it sometimes disconnects by itself. I've tried almost all AOSP based ROMs and kernels, and this issue still persists. On a side note, WiFi works perfectly on Touchwiz. Any help is appreciated

Well you answered your own question then, I have flashed all the aosp/aokp/cm roms
and I came to the conclusion that none of those Cyanogen roms are ready for prime time.
There are a lot of other issues besides just the wifi with those Cyanogen roms.
There are some really nice T999 Samsung Touchwiz Jellybean 4.1.1 based custom roms out there and
they work a LOT better than any of those open source Android based Cyanogen roms do.
The very best of these Touchwiz Jellybean 4.1.1 based custom rom is the "Wicked v9.1" nothing else comes close.

This is most definitely an opinion. And some, including me, would argue that it is the exact opposite of the truth.
Try a different kernel. Like ktoonz. See if that helps the wifi issues. Also, have a look over your options.

What version of the kernel and what version of the rom are you using? I am unaware of any issues with wifi on AOSP roms.

So im on an unlocked verizon htc one m8 and want to install an aosp rom. On the verizon forums for this phone, there are not many roms available but here in what i assume is general forums for the phone, there are many. Can i install any rom or does it have to be from the verizon forums specifically for verizon? Also does the same thing apply to kernels?
Check with the individual ROM. For cm it is a universal zip for all carriers. Dunno what the other large devs will be doing when it comes to Verizon. However even if it flashes there isn't one that is daily driver stable in my books (the darn camera bugs). Kernels, no. Those won't be universal Verizon uses different partitions and it will end bad. There's talk of an aosp kernel in one of the threads, Andy's I think, on Verizon. Dunno what will come of it but keep your eyes peeled.

Ok thanks for your help. I see some like liquid I think that's doing a universal build. I was wondering about aospa. And I heard it very blotchy right now with all aosp toms but the awesome devs here at xda will get it done right in no time. Thanks again for your help. Just one more question. If I were to flash a Rom can I just change the kernel to work with Verizon or will it not work at all after flashing a Rom?

They'd have to port it for Verizon. I wouldn't worry though personally I prefer stock kernel

I believe they all have the weak wifi and some other issues, The rom's run but you should wait if you're looking for a daily driver. The stock roms run smooth with great battery life.
