Gingerbread Screen capture app without being rooted - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Supposedly we should be able to do screenshots now on Gingerbread without being rooted. Can someone lead me in the right direction? How do I do this or does someone know of an app that will work on with Gingerbread?

App
Anyone know an App that will work?

There are plenty in the Android market without root.

I feel like this has been asked before so I'll be looking around, as of now this is all I could find on the market, though I faintly remember there being quite a few that worked well without root, this one needs to be purchased though.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.edwardkim.android.screenshotitfullnoroot
Update: grr.. can't find it. Must of been taken down, hopefully another user knows/has a screenshot app w/o needing root.
If you do decide to ever root, there's apps available for free on this, just saying if you ever gather the cojones to do it.

Optionally you can hook it up to a pc that has the android sdk installed, and use the ddms.bat file.

Thanks Everyone
I appreciate the replies. The no root screenshot app was the only one I could find as well but it looked like you had to hook it up to a PC every time.
I just wanted one that would take a screenshot, save it immediately in the gallery and then I would have the option to send it as a text
I had this functionality before upgrade to Froyo and then most apps said :"requires root access"
However - I did read somewhere that gingerbread allows this without root but there doesnt seem to be an app developed that doesnt need to be connected to a computer

Can you send me a link to the APK? I doubt it'll install with the traditional manner, but it may be able to be pushed.
Does not push either. I have tried. Also tried dlna as well. doing a few of the nonblur apps at a time to test.

now working on evo!!!
my friend said the market had the blockbuster app accidentally for a couple hours then they pulled it...saying it is not ready for other carriers yet...but he said it downloaded, installed and even worked!!!! (although, he said it force closes often and the quality doesn't seem that great) ...i am trying to get it from him, but it may take a while ...he is a noob trying to figure out how to get it and send it. any tips for him?? (we are going to try titanium backup)
I downloaded it yesterday and deleted it 10 minutes later.
All download links of the blockbuster app have been removed

i got it
i got it, it installed... and i activated (online though)...I EVEN RENTED A MOVIE!!! ok, but it wouldn't download so, no go. not many force closes...it said
" DOWNLOAD FAILED" ...No compatible profile available for download. My profile in the app is set at portable...but i must need some droidx permissions or something
Is there anyway to pull the permissions from the DroidX dump?? I have the original blockbuster app from that, along w/ the rest of the dump but have no clue where to look for the additional files that may be needed to install so it thinks i am on a droidx...if this is even possible.

Have you restarted since you installed VISIONary? if so click the icon and if it says device already rooted then it should work fine. I am thinking your device is not rooted.
When I first rooted my phone 2-3 days ago, I didn't think I would need Titanium backup. I thought I could manage with App Control. Now, I've factory reset my device twice. Once to get rid of the longer tempt root as it was not allowing me the use 1-click root. Second time was because my stock messenger wouldn't stop showing the notification in the taskbar. Yes, I turned off notification in the setting menu. The first reset I used App Control, it was a pain. I had to install all the apps one by one, and no system data was saved. The second time around I had just saved all my apps and system data using Titanium Backup. With just a few clicks I had all my apps reinstalled and data was all back. Now as I play around with Titanium, I noticed features like "lapels" which makes backing up only system apps with data (green) and user apps easy. I also learned it's best to pony up the $6 to be able to get multiple backups should you need it. If anyone ever used restore points in windows you could surely see the benefits of having multiple backups.
Now that I have a general knowledge of Titanium Backup, I'd like to erase all my backs and start over. Unfortunately I don't know where I could find my...backups...and delete them. I've tried the batch/delete all, to no avail. I might just have to erase from the sdcard or make another folder.
Anyways, I HIGHLY recommend you get Titanitum Backup. It doesn't matter if it's the free or paid one.
I did notice that it didn't save my launcher (pro) profile setting, ex. icons, and what not. It also doesn't save the data within the app, ex. I lost all my Angry Bird progress. But, I don't think the Titanium Backup is able to save such info, yet.
wireless tether shoot me and titanum are the best and seem only good ones for non developers
GOOD ROOT APP! Hot Reboot
I found one the other day called "Hot Reboot". Its like quickboot only it adds one great feature... fast rebooting. Its not a system reset like many other fast rebooters but it actually reboots the phone in an insanely fast speed. Its about $1 on the market and worth ever penny. At least try it out... its great for people who use a lot of apps and they reside on the sdcard which makes booting slow. And good for impatient folks

Get Sky Go(UK) to work on rooted phones

Hi Guys,
Just thought I would let you all know, that there is an app that temporarily removes root, I work for Sky Sports(attached to Sky), and i've known for a while that it wouldn't work on rooted devices, DRM and all that.
However, some testing i've done with my Galaxy S2, i've found an app which removes root(backs it up too), OTA RootKeeper, it temporaily unroot,(keeps backup) basically allows any apps that dont' work with root to work.
Tested and tried, i'm just hoping the guys at Text and Mobile division at Sky bring out anytime or even anytime+ in the near future.
Though we love our apple products within Sky, so may be a while before android gets anything like that, I on the other hand hate Apple.
Thought I would give people a heads up on how to get the new app working.
Yeah .. This method has also been mentioned by someone in the Sky Forums site ....
http://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Using-Sky-Go/Got-it-working-on-rooted-phone/m-p/319073
I'm unfortunately on ICS so it doesn't work for me either way ... Personally I'm really disappointed with Sky, having taken so long to bring out an app and then not have it up to date.
Already tried that with a different app, still hangs on loading.... 0%. I got it working once the first day, but temp unroot does nothing for me, even with supercurio's app
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Are you using ICS?
Yeah, hoping one of the devs brings a fix out for ICS.
As for temp unroot, i'm happy doing that aslong as it works.
If you are on an ICS rom just change your build.prop
"ro.build.version = 2.3.7" (not 4.0.3)
that will get past the ICS check.
then you need to be on a stock rom and stock kernel (not cf-root or other!) and use OTA Rootkeeper app (free in market) to hide root when you want to use SkyGo

I've managed to get it going by using CWM to flash the a stock KD1 kernal then using Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper to hide root.
When I've finished watching sky I use CWM to flash my siyah kernal back.

That sounds like way too much effort lol.
Likewise...
Sky need to release an app that fully works on ask rooted phones, less of the excuses.
I do the same work around as I want my Kernel to be Siyah, but the only way to get Sky Go working us to flash a stock Kernel.

If someone manages to get a hacked apk. or CWM flashable zip that works on rooted SGSII's please post it here, ive tried various methods mentioned without success.
Thanks
Hiding root I can handle but having to flash a stock kernel to use the app is too much hassle but I hate not being able to use it netflix works with hiding root what's so special about sky go?

Hi Guys - I followed the above suggestion and it worked!! Only suprise is that skygo now works with or without using ota rootkeeper!!!!!
works like a charm.
Well i went completely stock and installed sky go and its rubbish half the programs are not shown "this program is not available on SKY-go" almost 60% of sky one is not shown.
its not worth un-rooting for this yet until there is more watch-able content on the app imo.

The iPhone app is the same. The movies are a big benefit though, but I wouldn't watch them on a 3G connection, only have 500mb a month, and when i'm on Wifi i'm either at a PC at work to watch, or at home with TV.
It would be good if I was at someone's house and they had Wifi though.
I flashed speedmod kernel as described with mobile odin, then temporary uprooted with voodoo App, When I want to change back to NEAK kernel just flash back with mobile odin again, and re-root with Voodoo.
Whole process takes a few minutes, (a pain I know) but worth it to watch the epl while working away all week, I'll put up with it till hopefully a cracked apk comes along.

The above topic explains how to get working on ICS. I have stock kernel and stuff LP7, and I can confirm it's working using the 'fixed' app and voodoo unroot.

Good Root Apps

Now I understand that most people just search the app market looking for good root apps, but this cant take time. As a guy who just rooted their phone with clockwork 5.0.2.7 mod, and a BML, and then switched over to a CM9 ICS ROM all in one day, which isn't too bad. Luckily I am in college for electronics engineering technology so I know quite a bit about electronics so rooting wasn't an issue.
Now I see that there are similar threads that this site is showing me as I am making this, but I was wondering for apps that work best with the Epic 4G.
As I know there are apps that work with some phones, and others that well, don't.
I already have Titanium Backup which helped with clearing and wiping everything to switch over to CM9. Actually, I found that recovery doesn't like mounting SD cards over 2GB, so I backed up on my 16GB SD, and used my 2GB for the files.
Anyways, if there are any decent apps for the Epic 4G rooted phones in particular that would great if someone could drop me a line/reply.
First of all before posting a thread please check google for root apps!!- there's even a whole thread for it-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633386
I'm just going to list my Top 3 Favorites:
1."Wireless Tether for Root Users" / "FoxFi" ( Don't get the one from the play store- its not compatible- get the apk from somewhere else instead)
2."ES File Explorer File Manager"-and check root explorer in the settings of the app
3."Rom Manager"
Well there's no "must have" apps for a rooted epic. You just search and use whatever apps you need or whatever you like. As the guy above listed wifi tether and rom manager I can't say he's wrong but I don't use wifi tether so that's not one of my apps and I perfer to use the cwm app over rom manager. So its really all up to you on what apps you use.

AdAway is pretty great....blocks ads in your browser and in-app via a hosts file.
Droidwall
Rocking cm9
Root uninstaller pro! That app is amazing! Has the ability to freeze an app, unfreeze when you launch said app, and then refreeze it upon closing it out! Absolutely amazing and comes in handy for apps that like to open on their own randomly that you don't want to freeze because you use them often... maybe like google maps.... tons of other features also... only downside is its a paid app but I love it and its totally worth the money to get rid of nusiance apps without actually getting rid of them!

[Q] Downsides of Rooting

Hey all,
I have had some minor experience in unlocking and rooting my older android devices, but I was wondering if someone could shed some light on the current state of affairs. I just received a brand new nexus 7 and am trying to decide whether or not to unlock/root it.
I remember back with my Xoom as soon as I unlocked the boot-loader, Hulu stopped working. Is this still true? Are there any other side effects like that?
Thanks for all the help everyone
Nexus is basically made for rooting so no worries.
Sent from my Nexus 7 (2013) using Tapatalk 4
Some apps don't run if you're rooted. However, that's usually not for any technical reason; it's just because some app makers write a check for root into their apps and refuse to run if they find root. I don't know if Hulu is like that, but you might want to check if you have any apps that are like that. Alternatively, you can always unroot or use a hide root app to get around the app check.

Which Hide root app do you suggest ?
I was going to recommend OTA Rootkeeper, but apparently 4.3's security changes prevent it from working. As far as I can tell, it looks like you can't hide root on 4.3.

the one and only downside of rooting is you start suffering from ORD (Obsessive ROM-updating Disorder). I've been suffering it for past few months, and it seriously gets to my head sometimes.
Symptoms:
1) You feel like updating your ROM every day a nightly comes out, even if it is without any change. Just because it has a different incremental number.
2) You can't concentrate on studies, tv, movies, GFs, or even on your potty.
3) You dream about a new nightly every night after flashing current nightly.
4) You have titanium backup on your device.
Cure:
1) no cure.
I can't think of a single app that doesn't work with while rooted. It used to be Google Movies didn't work, but that's no longer the case.
Rooting isn't a big deal. The worst part is that it resets your devices to stock, so backup first.

Sky Go! doesn't and so far there appears no work around. Unless someone has heard something!
I had some gps lock on issues after rooting, but now that its rooted I can edit the gps.conf and fix issues.
