Upgrade to Inc 2 - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

So I'm wondering if I should upgrade to an inc 2 before these badass new phones from Verizon come out? I can probably get a free upgrade and my Inc has been giving me a lot of problems lately. I could wait a few extra days and get a galaxy nexus or something but I'm a little apprehensive about the size of the phone and I want to wait a while anyway to see other user's reviews.
Anyone switch from an OG inc to an inc 2 and glad they made the decision to switch?

Nexus' come at the end of the year. So you'll be fine for 5-6 months. But the One X variant for sprint is coming out soon too, so you need to decide if you want a nexus phone or the best spec'd phone. I personally will always choose a nexus, I hate skins on top of android.

Sprint will usually get phones later than most networks. If you look back at how long it took for us to the Galaxy S2, Nexus S 4G, etc. it was many months after everyone else.
So if you waited for the Galaxy S3, it will be a couple of months for international version to come out, then a few more months before Sprint gets it.
Just get the phone you want thats out now.
American versions of Galaxy s3 will take a few months because each carrier wants unique features and bloatware included with the phone al

Galaxy Nexus New Phone

I currently have the sensation. Always had HTC my whole android life. Love HTC but thinking about diving into the Samsung life. I'm thinking about buying the unlocked gsm galaxy nexus from the play store.
I can't always afford the best phone at the time, I pay cash. That's why the one s and galaxy s3 are of limits. I am on T-Mobile US
You guys think it's a good idea to switch? I realize this is the nexus forum, and it would be biased. But I want to know if it is a good idea, or if I should wait for something else. Is is too late to buy one of these?
Just give me all opinions. Thanks in advance.

I literally just changed from a Rezound to the GSM nexus. I can almost gaurantee you'll like it more. HTC sense drags android down so much. I also really enjoy the plainess of stock android. Also if there was ever a good time to jump ship on HTC its now. They are dying off quickly right now.

From what I have seen so far it is decent. You can get a 2000mah battery that negligibly increases the size of the phone if the stock isn't good enough (1750mah). I don't use my phone a whole lot during the week because I can't carry it into where I work but it has been better than my rezound was. My typical use with my rezound would give it all of 10-12 hours of life, I see my nexus getting about 14-16 especially with power saving kernels and simpler roms.
I was Verizon + HTC for years and I just switched to the GNex on Straight Talk. I could not be happier. It's an amazing phone at a great price. JB is what Android was meant to be. Battery, signal, camera; it's all been great.
You won't regret it.
if u are a heavy user like me id recommend getting larger batteries. the stock battery only lasts me about 8 hours with medium/ heavy usage ( using facebook/ twitter/ youtube and playing huge games like max payne)

Most seem to think there will be several of them, not just 1 this time. And that they will be out by Christmas. But there's no official word this is just the rumors. They for sure won't be US$350 though, which is why I just bought this one. I, too, am a to-hell-with--your-contracts kind of guy, so I pay full price. And frankly, 600+ for the new Nexus is just more than I am willing to pay. Especially when I care nothing about being the fastest or having the newest. I'm happy with my OG Evo right now, in fact. But DONE with Sprint!

New Phones

I can upgrade 2/14 and there is a few phones.
I'm looking at the Note 2 and SG3 as my top two right now though.
The only thing that concerns me is the SG3 is already almost a year old, and the 4 is coming sometime this year.
Does anyone have any news on when the SG4 would be available? I hear all types of rumors of first quarter. What do you guys think?
We won't know, just wait until announced if you want the s4.

Apparently android "k" version is going to be released this year
http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...for-key-lime-pie-the-next-version-of-android/
They are sending out updates at the cyclic rate. Android 5.0 already? Gingerbread was only 2 years ago.
I definitely won't be going HTC anymore.

Arent there rumors saying it will be announced on april? If so, it will probably released by june at the latest.
If you think that's too long, I'd probably go with Note 2. Samsung has been good with updates with their latest phones unlike htc.

My update is coming up 3/2. I'm in the same thinking as you, Note 2 or GS3 or wait for GS4. I'm thinking I'm just going to wait the extra month or two for the GS4. I've dealt with this outdated thing this long I think I can hold out another little longer to get a brand new released phone.
Don't get GS3 or GN2. Wait for a phone with a tegra 4 gpu/cpu 2!!! It's better than the one in the vita. It would be worth it

My upgrade is coming sometime soon, but I'm with you on this one.
Wanting a Nexus...but we all know how that will work out on Verizon.
Droid Razr HD looks really really really nice, but it is very locked down, and not much development on it.
Maybe the rumored Motorola X-phone will be our upgrade? I'm holding out until something good pops up.

Going forward, the aosp fans will probably want to get whatever flagship moto phone is out cuz its closest to stock android and usually aosp runs well on it
Aosp on Samsung phones usually gets pretty good but there always seems to be a deal breaker with some major feature or so so batt life

Even though I've never used an S3, they are so wildly popular that you are bound to see good ROM support for many months to come. I feel this is what plagues the DINC2, since so many have become fed up with HTC (& Verizon) and moved on to other phones. The remaining devs do great work though!:highfive:
I've been using a Verizon Galaxy S3 (Verizon is dual core vs everyone else getting a quad core) as my work phone. Running an AOSP rom I'm very happy with it. My sister just upgraded from an iPhone 4 and LOVES her new stock Sprint GS3.
Personally I'm tired of being a flashaholic and just ordered a Lumia 822 Windows phone to replace the Incredible. I wasn't looking to shell out cash for a new phone and it's got the same processor as the VZ GS3. I figure I run Windows at home, own an Xbox, and support Windows at work so an iPhone was out.
I've got till june for my update. I think I might be one of the very last of the inc2 users by then.
I'm probably the only person that went from a Dinc 2 to an SGS3 back to a Dinc 2.
I liked the SGS3. The ROMS are pretty good although AOSP roms were lacking a bit back when I used them. I was kind of forced to sell my SGS3 as I needed to pay off some expenses so I went back to the Dinc 2.
Looking back, I don't really miss the SGS3 that much. Sure, in pretty much every way it's a better phone and LTE is nice. I did get adjusted to the 4.7in screen and the overall size of the device, but I really do like the Dinc 2 form factor a lot better.
Whatever my next phone is, I'll try to talk myself out of getting something the size of the SGS3. I really hope a new 4.3in phone, or something around that, comes out on Verizon. There's the HTC M4, but I wonder if it will ever see the light of day on Verizon. I wish Verizon would sell the flagship HTC phones and not altered models.
I'll probably use the Dinc 2 until it breaks or I can't get a hold of a good looking stable rom. I'm going to stick with flagship phones from now on though.

This has been my concern as well, especially with the newer smartphones. I kinda like the pocket-size of the dinc2. Seems like everything is getting bigger instead of focusing on the real need. BATTERY LIFE.

Thinking about getting a Note 2. Need some advice.

I have a galaxy nexus at the moment and I planned on paying full price for a note 2 or galaxy SIII. I see the the GSIII has a lot more rom support than the note 2. So I'm asking those who own or owned both which do you like best?
Note 2 doesn't need much rom support. Gn2 does so much more than s3. Twice the cpu twice the ram + spen. Not much to compare
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
My wife has the GS3 and I have the Note 2. Having rooted/tweaked both, I can definitely say that neither really requires much in terms of ROMs. My wife likes things stock, but I was constantly flashing new ROMs on my EVO 4G, but don't really don't feel the need at all with my Note 2. Although there aren't as many ROMs for the Note 2, I think there's otherwise equal development for both in terms of tweaks and hacks.
One thing I did do was put Nova Launcher on my Note 2. Stupid lawsuits from Apple and others have stripped down the features of TouchWiz so much that I feel like I'm using 6-year-old technology.
Your choice pretty much boils down to size. If you like or can tolerate a bigger phone then I would highly recommend getting the Note 2. If not, then get the SG3.
Thanks. I think I'm going to go with the note 2. I have sprint but there data is so slow. I was thinking about jumping to Verizon or AT&T and get one.
From what I understand, the SIII is at its "end of life" and is being phased out. I was recently faced with the same choice and couldn't be happier with my choice. Get the Note 2.

Sprint will be releasing LTE in many cities soon so check yours.
If you are going with Sprint take a look at Amazon Wireless. They have the BEST prices. Right now they have the GN2 for $99 with a new 2 year contract. Not bad. ($199 if you are upgrading).

** The good news is that while Sprint won't pricematch anyone, Bestbuy is now pricematching Amazon. Soooo, go into Bestbuy and tell them about the AmazonWireless price and get a deal.

I just upgraded from the Sprint GS3 to the Sprint Note 2 and I LOVE IT. The Note2 is AWESOME. I had it rooted and flashed Mack's Rom less that an hour after I made the purchase. I would suggest the Note 2 as long as you don't mind the size.
I have had my Note 2 for about little over a week coming from S3 and either is a good choice but I am happy I got the Note 2 because it just does so much more than any other device on the market including the S3 my next phone will be the Note 3 for sure because how much I love this one that's my 2or3 cents

I too went from the original EVO like so many others. Also, as previous members have posted, Best Buy does match Amazon. Amazon had it for 199.99 for renewal and I signed up for the Best Buy mobile credit promotion of $50 (no longer available). Total pocket cost was about 200 after activation.
Absolutely love this phone!

Last days with my Galaxy Nexus

I'm going to miss everyone here, the ROMs, the kernels and the pureness!
Getting my Xperia Z in a few days, felt it was time for a change and the nexus models(4) I don't think seems good enough to be the next nexus device. I hope I can eventually find a combo on the Z as good as Xenon and trinity on the gnex!
Peace out

Are you planning on selling the gnex? Or keeping it as a backup? Or installing Ubuntu?
I'm going to be moving on to a new device myself in the next couple months, been trying to decide what to do with this one.

Not really, I have never received an ota, I've been flashing since the nexus s first came out, I'll get a new phone at the end of this year so hopefully there is another decent nexus by then. The only I'm anxious about is ROMs getting the bravia engine working and stuff like that.
