I'm due for an upgrade in the near future but unfortunately the Galaxy Nexus has already been around for a while. I don't want to end up with another Dinc situation where I get mine a year late, all the good devs leave and we have little support left.
So do you think (Opinions here people) this phone will still be worth getting when I upgrade or should I go with the next big thing?
A new nexus should be coming out by the end of the year, so my answer would be no.

Depends on the price. This phone is still a nexus and will get the next Android version. The specs for the GN are more than sufficient over the long haul.
Last years nexus has a more up to date version than my current Nexus.

Yeah we will be impatiently awaiting the next nexus. But on the other hand this is a good phone and will serve a lot of people well for a 2 + year life span.

I had my Nexus in hand by November last year so I'd say no do not buy the current one.
The phone is still awesome..... Get it!

If you can afford better then there will be better available by November... in fact there will be better available in a few weeks time when the galaxy s3 comes out.. you won't have to wait until November to find something better than the gnex
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Last Nov, the Nexus S was still around $400 on Amazon (still same price even today ). Hardware wise, this GN will be in better shape comes this Nov than the Nexus S was last Nov.
When the new Nexus comes out, it'll be in $650-700 range again (unless Google decides then to also sell the new Nexus at $399), so this current one at $400 is still a great deal.
Come November I would get the new Nexus.
As others have said... we'll see the next Nexus device in November. Galaxy Nexus will be cheap and still good (enough) though.
The phone will be a year old. Wait for a more recent release.
I think Google needs to stick with imagination technologies gpu's. For lots of reasons, including an apple one.

This phone will be fine by November. Plus, if rumors are correct we won't see a Nexus phone this year, but rather the Nexus tablet. Jelly Bean is said to have "game changing tablet optimizations".

I would wait for the next Nexus. The GNexus will still be a good phone but is kind of sad to see your device outdated one month after you bought it.

So? N1 has ICS. Unnoficial, but still. Nexus Prime will most def have future versions of the OS.
You people gotta be rich or something, changing phones like that.

Please don't get it just wait for the next one. I got mine just now cause of sprint just barely got it and is the only android phone that appeals to me right now. But if the next nexus doesn't come out on Verizon then maybe you shouldn't get it but if he does then yes wait for that one

Do you want a SGSIII?
- If yes, get it.
- If no, keep your Galaxy Nexus.
Why do people constantly open threads like these. Why are you going to base your decision in someone else opinion?
My opinion....doesn't matter! Hell buy an iPhone for all I care.

No.
Simba was moving too slow, so I told him to Mufasa.
Funny cause I just got an S3 for my wife about an hour ago. I haven't really played with it that much beside installing some of her apps. Me personally, I wouldn't be able to switch. There are some really neat features and the 2 gigs of ram is very nice but for me the nexus with jelly bean is still the better device.

The gs3 is an awesome phone no doubt. I won't be buying another non Nexus device for myself though. The Nexus line is exactly what I want in a phone... An awesome development community for bleeding edge features that non Nexus phones won't see for many many months.

Completely agree with this. Ive had an iPhone 4 for a year and before that an HTC Evo 4G. I grew tired of the iPhone so I decided to take a chance with this Nexus. I've got to honestly say as long as this device stays in working condition for the next few yrs, I won't buy another phone until they stop sending OTA updates to this phone. Which might not be for a loong time considering I bought this straight from Google.
Sent from the Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
totally worth it. do it.
Why you downgrade to an SGS 3?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
Overall the S3 is underwhelming. AOKP running on both devices, the Nexus perform just the same. The S3 is faster in some tasks like installing apps and gaming, but for the most part its not a noticeable difference. And the Nexus have more up to date software and roms. I like the feel of the Nexus more, the S3 feel very flimsy.
I'm in a dilemma about which device I should sell, I can store more stuff with the S3 and take nicer photos, but for almost anything else I prefer the Nexus.
I do know for a fact that the T-Mobile of version of S3 will probably get Jelly Bean as its last official update, while the Nexus will get plenty more updates from Google in the future.
Also S3 factory firmware is unusable for me, very bloated and slow, I guess once you're spoiled by stock Android everything else feel slow.
Yes, then sell the gs3, buy a new nexus, and pocket the difference.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Why didn't I thought of that?
Yes! Sell it for $450-500, then buy the Play Store GNex for $350. Pocket the difference
EDIT: Got beaten to it by Yuhfhrh

Pocketing the difference feels great.
traded my iPhone 4 32GB + $100 for a 4S back in January off craigslist. The dude couldn't wait for jailbreak any longer and valued a bit more cash.
Flipped my iPhone 4S (that I got an AT&T sanctioned unlock for as soon as they started doing that) three days after playing with my GNex for $550.
Pocketed $170. Almost enough to cover iPhone "5" since I'm eligible for an upgrade. Might do that and flip it for Nexus 2 when the time comes.
Either way, in a great spot and happier than I could imagine with my Jelly device

So found out a couple days ago that T-Mobile is releasing the Note on the 8th. Is anyone thinking about buying it?
I'm super happy with my nexus but I've always been interested in the Note since the first time I've heard about it last year. I might just get one to play around with but still keep my nexus. What are ya'll thoughts on it? Sucks that its last years hardware but I'm sure real world use you won't be able to tell cuz my galaxy s2 had the same hardware and it flew.
Edit: Here's a review of it done by androidcentral in case anyone was curious http://www.androidcentral.com/t-mobile-galaxy-note-review

I had an international Note for over 5 months, and traded two weeks ago for the GSM Nexus. That might tell you something. Maybe you can tolerate TouchWiz, but I can't. Thankfully there was a pretty big dev community for it, but good luck finding that on this upcoming T-Mo version. The sequel to the Note is almost certainly in the works, so this version will be dead in the water very quickly.

Touchwiz blows but I'm just really digging the huge screen lol. Since the tmo version looks to be the exact same as the att version (besides LTE radio) I assume the Roms should work since the tmo gsii and att skyrocket were interchangeable. But yeah I might hold off and wait to see if the note2 is pentaband I'm not in any rush to get a new device so yeah... BTW welcome to the gnex hope you're enjoying it

The size of the Note is extremely impractical and you look like a huge douche using one in public. I had a n7000 for a few weeks but the size of it got old pretty quick.
I can upgrade 2/14 and there is a few phones.
I'm looking at the Note 2 and SG3 as my top two right now though.
The only thing that concerns me is the SG3 is already almost a year old, and the 4 is coming sometime this year.
Does anyone have any news on when the SG4 would be available? I hear all types of rumors of first quarter. What do you guys think?
We won't know, just wait until announced if you want the s4.

They are sending out updates at the cyclic rate. Android 5.0 already? Gingerbread was only 2 years ago.
I definitely won't be going HTC anymore.

Arent there rumors saying it will be announced on april? If so, it will probably released by june at the latest.
If you think that's too long, I'd probably go with Note 2. Samsung has been good with updates with their latest phones unlike htc.

My update is coming up 3/2. I'm in the same thinking as you, Note 2 or GS3 or wait for GS4. I'm thinking I'm just going to wait the extra month or two for the GS4. I've dealt with this outdated thing this long I think I can hold out another little longer to get a brand new released phone.

Wanting a Nexus...but we all know how that will work out on Verizon.
Droid Razr HD looks really really really nice, but it is very locked down, and not much development on it.

Aosp on Samsung phones usually gets pretty good but there always seems to be a deal breaker with some major feature or so so batt life

Even though I've never used an S3, they are so wildly popular that you are bound to see good ROM support for many months to come. I feel this is what plagues the DINC2, since so many have become fed up with HTC (& Verizon) and moved on to other phones. The remaining devs do great work though!:highfive:
I've been using a Verizon Galaxy S3 (Verizon is dual core vs everyone else getting a quad core) as my work phone. Running an AOSP rom I'm very happy with it. My sister just upgraded from an iPhone 4 and LOVES her new stock Sprint GS3.
Personally I'm tired of being a flashaholic and just ordered a Lumia 822 Windows phone to replace the Incredible. I wasn't looking to shell out cash for a new phone and it's got the same processor as the VZ GS3. I figure I run Windows at home, own an Xbox, and support Windows at work so an iPhone was out.
I've got till june for my update. I think I might be one of the very last of the inc2 users by then.
I'm probably the only person that went from a Dinc 2 to an SGS3 back to a Dinc 2.
I liked the SGS3. The ROMS are pretty good although AOSP roms were lacking a bit back when I used them. I was kind of forced to sell my SGS3 as I needed to pay off some expenses so I went back to the Dinc 2.
Looking back, I don't really miss the SGS3 that much. Sure, in pretty much every way it's a better phone and LTE is nice. I did get adjusted to the 4.7in screen and the overall size of the device, but I really do like the Dinc 2 form factor a lot better.
Whatever my next phone is, I'll try to talk myself out of getting something the size of the SGS3. I really hope a new 4.3in phone, or something around that, comes out on Verizon. There's the HTC M4, but I wonder if it will ever see the light of day on Verizon. I wish Verizon would sell the flagship HTC phones and not altered models.
I'll probably use the Dinc 2 until it breaks or I can't get a hold of a good looking stable rom. I'm going to stick with flagship phones from now on though.

This has been my concern as well, especially with the newer smartphones. I kinda like the pocket-size of the dinc2. Seems like everything is getting bigger instead of focusing on the real need. BATTERY LIFE.
And money wasn't an issue, what would it be and why?
Wait for the Note 3. I like a big ass full HD screen and the specs are gonna be monstreous.
I'm probably going to jump on the Note3, I am due for an upgrade around Sep.

I don't like too big screens for a phone, so I would go for an SGS4, kinda ironic isn't it ?
Iam also due for an upgrade around september, by then, many phones will be released....
If my GNex suddenly died on me, I'd pop my sim in my XPlay. Why?
I hate 5" phones, so that takes care of the S4 and the Xperia Z line (a shame cause I love the Z otherwise). The Note line is even worse for that. The HTC One is a beautiful phone with some great features and a good size..but you know it's locked down like area 51 because it's an HTC. Nexus 4 is tempting, but LCD screen, 720p screen(what with all the 1080 now), and it's LGness steer me away.
So in short, no new bleeding edge phone right now is tempting. Hopefully the X phone, or Nexus 5 or whatever doesn't go all 5 inch on us, and get's a 1080p SAMOLED (4.7" ideally)
My upgrade is also in September and a bunch of new phones will be out by then, but at the moment the only phone I would upgrade to would be the GS4.

I'm leaning towards the DROID dna..
I was actually able to upgrade back in February. There's no phone out right now that I really want to shell out the money for. The Xperia Z looks very nice, but no radios for 4G service here in the US as far as I know. As long as my GNex hangs in there, I'll probably wait at least a few more months before I consider upgrading. Possibly even until the big releases over the holiday season.

No they didn't. An insecure bootloader was leaked.
Note II, there was an exploit to flash an insecure bootloader as well.
As for both phones factory? The S3 came with a signed boot partition. Note II came with locked bootloader though.

if my verizon Gnex died today, i would probably ditch verizon and jump over to a nexus 4. the specs are good enough where i wont have phone envy any time soon. the size is just about right as i think the 5" phones are a little too big for me.
and there is just SOMETHING about stock android that i just love.
today? Nexus 4, specs are awesome for me and the price is just great!
Im planning on staying with Verizon, and I want to upgrade right now lol.
Went to the store today and played with the DNA and S3 and both were amazing. DNA is 200 and S3 is 100 bucks..
I love the way to DNA looks and feels, and i like sense. But currently there isnt any root for it, i don't think.
The S3 has a better camera, dual core, but its not even close to the benchmark scores to the DNA
DNA's benchmark was over 8k, S3 was at 3.k and my nexus, 1.7k.
WHAT DO I DO!?
Wait 2 weeks for s4 but it won't have Aosp. I said I wanted the one but the voice of reason (my brother) knows I love aosp so he is encouraging me to wait for cm.
