I'm on EI22, stock ROM with mkasic's keyfix kernel.
This morning I woke up and headed to the room where my phone is...to hear constant repeating beeping. It was like 6 very fast beeps, nothing for a second, then 6 more beeps. Over and over again. I had my volume on the lowest notch, so luckily it didn't wake up the whole house! I believe it has most likely been beeping for hours.
I found a thread with a similar report on the i9000 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052796 and another thread on the captivate. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this since the GB update, or even before that. We've got 2 epics in the house and I've never run across it before so I'm thinking it was introduced to our phone in EI22.
As soon as I powered on the screen and pulled down the notification bar it stopped.
I have been able to replicate it by leaving unread e-mails in my notification bar, powering off and back on. Basically as soon as it boots and the media scanner starts running the beeping starts. It will continue forever until I unlock the screen and pull down notifications.
Figured it out - had no notification sound set, so apparently it defaults to constant repetitive beeping...lol
Once I set a notification sound all was well.

I haven't fully tested this issue yet mainly because I've only had the phone for a few days... I wanted to check if anyone else had this problem.
Under Settings -> Sound & Display -> Notification Flash
I have all the options ticked.
In theory, whenever I have a missed call or a SMS or email etc, I should be able to tell that I need to check my phone be a little blinking light in the top right corner off the screen. I just came back to my phone and this LED wasn't blinking but when I turned on the phone, there was a missed call and a SMS.
Other times, it seemed to work fine.
Anyone else noticed this problem?
it only flashes for 5 mins and then stops. There is no way to change this without additional apps.

Oh... How disappointing. Pretty useless imo. Thanks for the info. I wonder if they will fix it. My previous phone, Touch Diamond, had something similar but it never stopped flashing until you looked at your missed calls.
Now that explains things. I tend to look for the led after I've not used the phone for a while. In my pocket or elsewhere. Quite a few times I've seen no flashing but have a notification in the top left. I thought it was another one of those little 'features' we keep finding.
Yeh i discovered this awhile back and it's annoying as hell, i just use a app called Missed Reminder which can be configured to allowed it to keep flashing indefinitely
I was just going to make a post about this. I thought the LED notification wasn't working at all on my Desire, since I've never seen it, but perhaps it had just stopped before I had the chance to catch it, then

What apps are you referring to? It would be nice to be able to have the LED flash longer.
I'm guessing this is to save battery time, I don't know how much power a small LED uses but it surely can't help with the already abysmal battery life
I first thought the LED was located behind the optical trackpad, because the trackball on my Hero could light up. I think the LED-notification is pretty dumb since it's almost invisible when it lights up. The lighting trackball was much much better
This is a known issue. I thought that did not happen in Android, but I guess I was wrong.
If the phone work in Windows Mobile, there are a registry key to let assign values to the options, so they are usable.
Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4846399#post4846399
In Android, I have no clue... maybe my info help in any way.
PMoto
It would be nice to be able to change the flash time from the default 5 minutes, or atleast an option for no time limit.
I know it's to help save battery life, but I'm willing to say that the light flashing will use less battery then the back light coming on everytime I'm away from my phone for more then 5 minutes, from me checking to see if I have new messages, email, or missed phone calls.
Same issue with my recently purchased A40.
No blinking at all despite screen flash notification selected.
Hope someone can help
My alarms are already spotty at best. I've caught them going off for 1 or 2 seconds and then silencing themselves. This morning I did not hear my alarm go off at all and instead woke up to some very strange text messages I had just sent.
I left Google Voice open last night as I was texting someone and the text window was open. Instead of my alarm going off, a bunch of random garbled text started getting sent out. I don't know if it was the vibration (I never heard the vibration but I could have slept through it) causing buttons to accidentally be hit or if it was some weird redirection of alarm "go off" commands being redirected to the nearest text area.
Has anyone ever experienced anything like this? I notice similar random text messages sometimes waiting as drafts for me after backing up and restoring text messages.
That sucks! Are you running a custom ROM? if so would you by chance be using a 'Vanilla' Lock Screen?

I'm 100% stock unrooted fully updated.
wow, I have absolutely no idea! sorry! I would think it would have to be an app doing that. Can you recreate the issue? if you can, post it and I will try to do it on my phone.
Have you tried using a diffrent alarm app one from the market

Has anyone else had there alarm not to go off then to check the time on the phone and all of sudden it sounds?
This morning I had my alarm set for 8:00am, I roll over and see it is 8:08 on my nightstand clock and think to myself I must of had it set to PM instead of AM. I then reach for my phone hit the power button and the alarm starts ringing. It was like the time didn't update until I hit the power button. Any fix for this or anyone else experience this?
Interesting. A slightly different but probably related event happened for me this morning:
I use my Galaxy Nexus stock alarm to wake up and have every morning I have had the device (about 45 days). No problems whatsoever.
This morning, the alarm goes off for about 2 seconds, I wake up, the alarm has stopped and I reach for the phone and it is in the process of rebooting (the splash screen is running)

I had that same exact experience. Verbatim.
I use two separate devices for alarms...one never knows.
Do any of you guys use any task killer apps?
The alarm on my Gnex is so weirdly unpredictable that I went back to using my old SGS as my alarm clock.
I've tried the standard clock app as well as Kaloer Clock and the alarms on both of them only work about 75% of the time.
This is also the only time I've had a "sleep of death" issue. The phone would often be powered off when I checked it after a missed alarm, or else waiting for me to key in my SIM PIN as though it had rebooted, even though it had been powered on and charging when I went to sleep. This hasn't happened even once since I stopped using the alarms.
So no answers, but I would love to know if this is common and if it's fixable.
BTW, I'm not using task killers or battery boosters, and I'm on stock everything.

Four month of using the Nexus as my alarm clock and I never had any issues. Went from stock 4.0.1 to bugless beast 4.0.3 to cm9 4.0.3 and alarm on all of them worked flawless.

Custom sounds won't repeat by default
There's some thread in the forums about ring tones not repeating unless in ogg format with the special ANDROID_LOOP tag set to true...
Are you using a custom, non-repeating alarm sound?
4.04 fixed this for me. I think it has something to do with landscape. Alarm always works. I use it to get up every morning.
Yep, had a similar problem this week
running 4.0.2 stock
not sure why its started happening
My phone was bootlooping this morning too, had to wipe and re flash. Using axiom crossbreed

Also the only things I did differently was download volume plus and tweaked the speaker volume and in call volume. Before this I had never had a problem .

I've only had my Nexus reboot waiting to decrypt the phone once, making late.. on a side note anyone else find it annoying they placed the snooze button on top of the dismiss button?? My motor skills ain't the greatest when I wake up and stretching to get to my phone.. end up hitting dismiss why couldn't the buttons be located left to right like it use to be.. sigh

Not me- I was trying to use a stock alarm tone. And it worked fine some of the time. The problem is that my boss doesn't think me being on time to work "some of the time" is adequate, so it would be better for me if my alarm is reliable.

I am not "allowed" to post this information on Calkulin's E4GT 2 page, because I have not been here long enough. I am however a daily driver of Calkulin's E4GT 2 rom and have made some helpful observations. I will try to post one per day on this page. Hopefully after about 10days of posting, the powers that be will give me access to Calkulin's page where this actually should be posted.
Jtags helpful tune-up tips for Calkulin's E4GT 2 ICS ROM Day 1
Is the Crackle free movie app not working for you? Install Calkulin's Stock Android Hosts from zip in CWM and it should fix it.
Getting that annoying silent notification bug? Restart your phone everyday... it won't stop it but it will decrease the number of dropped notifications. Don't believe me... well try it yourself. Text yourself from someone else's phone when you are getting the silent notification bug. Then restart you phone and see if it fixes the bug. It works for me. Tell me if if works for you. If it works for everyone, I may write a script to restart the appropriate services after use which may fix the problem all together.
Well that is all for today. I hope this helps.

I thought the notification bug was based off of hitting home or back after a phone call before the phone app quits itself, and not a random occurrence?

Although there is a relationship between the dialer and notifications stopping it does also occur randomly.
Notification Bug
The notification bug in my experience is triggered by hitting the back button before a call has fully ended, silencing an incoming call, silencing any notification, or exiting the SMS messenger by using the taskmon.
Restarting the phone is one way of fixing the problem. There are a group of services that you can restart, but it is easier to restart the phone. I am working on a script to restart the services after use, but I am running into another bug. When I have the script running the notifications enter an infinite. The only way I have been able to stop it is to remove the battery and uninstall. I am still working on it, but obviously not ready for prime-time.
Unfortunately, samsung may have beat me to the punch. I have a source that tells me that FD10 no longer has the bug. Hopefully it will leak... I mean be released officially soon.
Notification Bug
Recently my wife's E4GT has been getting the notification bug... it even goes one step further and affects the alarm clock. Her phone is stock el29, never been rooted. Weird.
I just do the following. Make a phone call, hang up RIGHT AWAY (1 second after calling), wait for the screen to go away (the screen that says "message" and "call" at the bottom). Once that screen goes away, the notification bug is gone and you can press whetever keys you like.

Is your wife using a task killer?
Since JB I've noticed that the calendar notifications went from signalling once to a continuous drone that rings and rings until the device is attended to. My alarm clock isn't even anywhere near this persistent.
I don't see any means to change this behavior at all except to turn off notifications completely.
This is not meeting friendly and happens to be extremely annoying when you have multiple devices.
Anyone know of a fix? Did I miss something? Or did someone program in this change and considered this absurdly long notification time an improvement?
No one has noticed this or it doesn't bother anyone?
I think that's hard to imagine...!

Really? That's very interesting. This happens on my Galaxy Nexus as of 4.1.1 and my Nexus 7.
It did not happen before my JB update.
Interestingly NO ringtone is selected when I "choose ringtone" from the calendar app. Maybe that has something to do with it.
Well that's it.
The calendar notification was some built-in and non-selectable notification. When using that notification it continued for over 30 minutes. After selecting a ringtone/notification from the list the problem went away and the notification file is only played once.
Strange behavior.
