Bricking - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What is bricking of phone and how do we found out that phone is bricked?can we recover phone from it?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App

Bricking is when your phone is a "brick", as in it doesn't boot.
And most of the time it is recoverable, but it depends on how it's bricked.

According to u when I'll press power and volume down button wildfire will not show anything?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App

It all depends on how it's bricked, in most cases vol- and power should show the bootloader interface.

K...thank u...
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App

It's not bricked if it's recoverable.

Agree with henkdv. A phone is bricked when u can't recover it,hence its just a paper weight in ur hand like a brick. U can't use it anymore like a phone... so its a brick only

But cant somebody find out some new way accessing the phone from a pc and re-downloading all the software manually to get their phone unbricked? sounds stupid but is it possible lol

my phone is bricked
it stucks at revolutionary on recovery. Can't do anything. When I power on it's the bootloader interface. Can it recover ? PLEASE HELP ME ! D:

there is only 2 kinds of bricked.
1. Soft bricked. IE your rom is boot-looping, or you cant get past the splash screen.
2. you have killed the radio or bootloader and the device does not respond at all, or the phone only vibrates and shows nothing on the screen.
1 is totally fixable depending on how you have gotten yourself into that position. IE flashing the wrong kernel for your device, or flashing 2 roms on top of each other and not wiping properly ect. this can usually be fixed with a recovery.
2 is only fixable in 2 senarios. the 1st is with a device called a j-tag. this device is mounted to the motherboard of the phone and is then used to force new software onto the device, replacing the damaged software, thus fixing the device. the other depends on how many vibrations you get. you may be stuck in qualcomm diagnostic downoad mode and it is possible to re-flash the bootloader via the rom.zip from the appropriate ruu and a process called blind booting.
in general most can get by with knowing that if it turns on, and you can get to the bootloader the device is not bricked. if it doesnt turn on it is bricked and not fixable for most, unless you have the hardware and the know how.
job done

[Q] Desire Blackscreen

Hello,
i flashed my hboot back from ogxygen to default hboot, after
reboot i just saw a black screen. The leds are blinking green and orange if i put out the battery and if i insert it, the leds are orange.
If i start the desire the leds are not showing something and its still blackscreen. How i can repair it? =(
sry for bad english
i'm no expert but have you tried going in to the Bootload menu (power off phone, hold down the back button and power on holding both button down unlit phone starts up)?
Then if you can get in to the Bootloader screen you can then try to go to Recovery option or flash from your PC using ADB.
Have you made a NAND back up before you flashed your Hboot?
Yes i already did, but always blackscreen not vibrating or something like that
no i dont have a nand backup, why i need 1? someone could give me a link?
or make a backup and upload it?
if you connect phone to pc , is it recognized by PC?
if yes try to run an official RUU from shipped roms.

no my pc isnt showing something up
It is a bit late but check the md5 of the hboot you flashed, if it does not match I think you are pretty screwed otherwise it probably is still fixable.
how i can fix? damned thats my dads desire he will kill me :/
i don't think you can, you have to take it back for repair.
or you can find someone with jtagbox.http://www.jtagbox.com/jtag-news/riff-jtag-htc-desire-unlock-unbrick-imei-repair-supported/
will they repair my desire if i send it back? cause its flashed
It depends on how much they can see from it.

ähm... what they will do after repair when they see thats my desire is flashed?
If they find out that it was a rooted desire or that you caused the fault, they are happy to repair it but they will charge you big time. Somewhere around here someone named 200 euro i think. But you might get lucky and they repair it cost free, has also happened before.
What you have is the slcd desire brick. Follow the thread in my signature with the ruu for your region- how to unroot the desire.

[Q] [SOLVED] Desire CDMA ADR6275 Bricked ! (GSM Radio Brick)

I was trying to Hboot different table and some radio and I accidently brick my phone.
When I try to turn it on it just vibrates for a second and nothing shows up just blank black screen. Help ME Please !
I have managed to show the info in the fastboot commander. I can flash radio h-boot spl and recovery here. I can shut down phone from this software and it shows charging light as well.
But still blank on boot. Can any body help me to make it usable
Sorry to say, but I think you bricked it. You can't flash GSM radios and partition tables to the CDMA Desire.
Is there any way that I can unbrick it ?

Hmm... i dont know when its CDMA.but i think this may fix it. Okay you need to download fastboot commander from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193915
then you need to download official htc desire RUU it may work for CDMA too (i think) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193915 download the "HTC Desire Android 2.3 Upgrade"
Allright now you got the downloads. You also need Java and the HTC driver if you dont got that. Pull battery out of your phone and set it back again. Connect your phone to your pc (dont turn it on you shold just hear that sound when windows found your device) open fastboot commander program on your pc and go to the tab "boot, sys and userdata" mark all the stuff you can and press remove or something like that
Your phone is only a black screen when you turn it on, dont worry. Open the RUU program now and follow the instructions to revert to android 2.3. I hope that helpe if not let me know what didnt worked and i may help you a little more.

Not if its really bricked, such as a radio brick, which you more than likely have.
You can try flashign a CDMA RUU like suggested above, but keep your fingers crossed.
I'm pretty sure even flashing a different SPL from alpharev would've done a great job of bricking it...
Yes it probably would
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
Before doing anything that u guyz have suggested would this thing help that i got? This is RUU_Bravo_C_Froyo_USCC_WWE_2.11.573.5_Radio_2.15.00.11.16_release_168495_signed.exe which is sized 171mb. I dounloaded it. What is this thing anyway. Could anyone explain ?
I got it from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=947961
its an RUU (Rom Upgrade Utility) to upgrade the rom.
What was a guy who doesnt know what an RUU is, doing flashing Hboots?
will u tell me if it has to do anything to make my phone work ?
Like we said earlier, you can try. We can't tell you if it will work o not as your phone may be bricked. However, it should give you failure codes, which may give us more information.
Theres no harm in trying. It probably is bricked anyway.
Good thing about Alpharev hboot is that they lock it so that one doesnt accidentally flash a wrong hboot.. See if you can get into hboot mode (Vol- Power)...If it's still black, use the PB99IMG.zip method of flashing RUUs.. I wont elaborate. They are a dozen threads on it do/
Don't flash an ruu now.
I'm not sure how to fix your problem but I don't believe it's bricked. It is sooo hard to brick these things. I have thought a million times that mine was bricked, just be patient search forums (not just xda) and read a lot. That's the beautiful thing about the internet. You are bound to find many people that have gone through what you are and have fixed it. I will look a little for you but i'm not on that much so I don't know how much help that can be. If your search doesn't provide useful information try changing your keywords. I'll post again later tonight with what I have found if you haven't figured it out already. Good luck.
This RUU is giving me error 110 Cant open file when it is on 60-70 %. I downloaded it forn HTC support the other time and againg the same error. Then I tried to do another RUU from alltel but this gave me error that this was not supported. Help !

Any help plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz im freaking out here i.....the phone was rooted
so you have (originaly) a mt4gslide or dz or g2. what hboot did you then install? what hboot did you mistakenly go to, what one were you trying to go to
can you boot into hboot?
can you get anything when powering on?
if you answer to the last 2 questions is no then only jtag will help, if yes then there is still a chance you can fix it easily

No my firend it dosent turn on and i cant go to recovery nor hboot. I mistakenly flashed the Desire z hboot on it.all i can do is charge it and it...and the orange light come on..
PS: whos jtag
jtag is a way to force the os, bootloader etc onto your phone. to do this you need to have the proper adapter to go to your computer and your phone, which you would also need to know the points on your motherboard to connect the jtag adapter (these have to be temporaraly soldered in place. then you need a program to communicate between pc and phone and of course the software.
usualy only a select few places have the ability to jtag a phone, rarley is this done by the doityourselfer. you can look for some one to do this for you but the cost probably will outway the cost of selling your phone for parts and buying a new one
sorry for the bad news, good luck!

I'm going to try the JTAG person on Ebay in the USA.
I will send 2 HTC Desire Z, one that doesn't even load and one that can only start up in recovery and has probably a broken emmc chip.

Help needed. BRICKED!

Hey all,
My friend's phone used to boot it to the bootloader after every 6 hours or so on its own. Now it booted again to the bootloader and bootloops to the HTC screen and bootloader. It is S-ON and bootloader is locked. I can see option for fastboot, recovery. Havent tried anything yet. No custom rom was ever installed and was never rooted.
hboot version is 1.36.0000
Also it shows a warning that Battery Level is too low to flash.
is there anything be done to restore the phone or is it hard bricked?
if you want screenshot of the bootloader then I can post.
EDIT: Screenshow of the bootloader screen attached
Install RUU. It should fix your problem.

Ran the battery boosting script. Was able to exectute the unlock.bin command. It went successfully. Phone asked me to accept the disclaimer voiding warranty. I did that. Rebooted the bootloader. And still, it shows as locked but now with a Security warning. Along with the batterly level too low to flash warning.
Any help? I was trying to unlock the bootloader and install custom recovery to charge the phone atleast 30%.
UPDATE: After sever re-tries I figured out, now when on the htc disclaimer screen when I use volume buttons to select Yes, the power button to select doesn't responds, but for no it works.!
Don't know what my phone is upto. it is getting too much frustrating to me.
UPDATE: Got another unlock_code.bin from HTCDev. But now another problem is there. No matter how many times I try the device stays unlocked. I tried almost 15 stays in a row and I stays locked. Any idea how can I get out of this mess?

OK let's figure this out. Gonna need specific information from you.
Is the phone s-on or s-off? If s-off how was this done?
What procedure was used to flash the ROM?
What state is the phone in now? Won't turn on at all, or sits on the HTC screen, or only vibrates?
And has your friend done this before?

My advice is to flash an RUU and revert back to stock.
This is only because it's hard bricked, plus it happened to me before. I thought to give it a go, and it worked.
After that I just re root my phone, and install CWM recovery, and then flash a new ROM. It's simple
Just follow my leads and it'll work.
P.S Your hardware hasn't damaged at all. Why do users say these things?
1. Download an RUU from the buzz forums
2. Install and revert back to stock with RUU
3. After the process is done, enable adb in settings [Applications]
4. re root your device, and install CWM
5. Flash any custom ROM and follow the instructions 'fully'.
I had to rush this, I hope you understand what i'm saying.
Users if you think i'm wrong then correct me as you wish.
But this all managed to work for me, when my device was hard bricked xD

Hey @Stone Cold, the confusion people are having here is between hard bricked and soft bricked. A "hard brick" can only occur in 2 situations which are
1: the bootloader is corrupted/damaged/deleted and the device cannot boot. This can Only be fixed by using a JTAG. A ruu will not work as the ruu is flashed by the hboot(bootloader) and if it won't function then its dead.
2: that hardware has been damaged so much that the device cannot physically boot.
Depending on the damage this can sometimes be fixed.
All other forms of "bricking" are "soft bricks" or software bricks. These include bootlooping, trapped at the splash screen etc. These can be fixed as the bootloader and or custom recovery still function. If either of these still function you are not hard bricked. If a ruu worked then you were soft bricked.
Now this user states that his device was s-on so bootloader corruption is massively unlikely as nand protection is still active. This coupled with the owner stating that the device will not boot and shows no signs of life a hardware failure is the most likely option.

That's no problem pal it's good to keep these terms clear, so many people have misinterpreted them in the past. That being said thank you for reminding me of the black screen hboot issue. It's been ages since I've heard of that happening. Its good to keep notes
But back on topic, OP do you or your friend have a working fastboot path? If so try to boot into hboot with volume down and power, wait 30 seconds then push power. Then on the PC issue the command
Fastboot devices
If nothing happens its toast :/
