Every GSM phone has a sim card while CDMA phones don't use sim cards so you wouldn't be able to put in a sim card to activate it

Dont waste your money. If you want an Android phone and on a GSM network you may look into the Samsung Infuse or something similar. But CDMA phones cant be used on GSM networks and GSM phones cant be used on CDMA networks.

Well heres the thing...I haven't had a phone since August and I'm on a tight budget right now. I've been looking at HD2's on Android but most of them are in New York (I'm in NJ)... The last phone I had was the Samsung Vibrant and it was terrible.. Phone calls were lost ETC (mind you, I had it rooted.) Before that, I had an HD2 and bricked it trying to get Android on it.. I've also been looking for a G2X, but still, thats a LOT more money than I was hoping to shell out.. I saw this add and kinda got really excited, since it was real cheap ($100..hes willing to go down to $75).

My wife has a Tmobile G2... I want to move her to my AT&T plan... but she DOES NOT want to loose her G2... that thing is her baby.
So would Rooting her G2 allow me to run a AT&T SIM card through it?
If not... how would I go about unlocking it so it could?
Yes, it will.

^^ I know for sure using this method will unlock the phone. It's the one I used and it seems to be the easiest especially if you don't know adb too well.
1) Choosing the right option in gfree will allow it.
2) Just making sure you're aware - if it's a T-Mobile G2, it won't work on AT&T's 3G frequencies, so she'll always have either 4G or 2G.

Huh? According to quite a few people the G2X is the only 4g phone that can utilize atts bands..because its quadband..I don't think this phone. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure this device will only allow connection to edge

The T-Mobile G2 WILL NOT get have a 3G connection with AT&T. The G2 does not have the proper HARDWARE to connect to AT&T's 3G/4G network as far as I know. Only the Canadian Desire Z or (maybe) the Euro Desire Z have the proper Quad-Band radios that would allow for it to get a proper 3G connection on AT&T's network.
If she can live with 2G speeds, then it won't be a problem, simply SIM-Unlock using the gfree/rage method and away you go!
Whoops, my mistake.

Sorry to burst your bubble but the g2 will NOT work. The g2's 3g band is based off t mo's specific dual frequency set up (one for uploads and one for download). Att uses only 1 frequency and it's completely different from tmo's. If youre going to ask me which one, i dont remember but a quick wiki will answer that.
So, sorry, you'll need to get her the desire Z from bell (A7275) not the G2.

Your right. The way I look at it, if your gonna root you might as well go all the way while your at it.
I have a G2 that I swap from tmobile to att all the time. 2g sucks but at least there is wifi pretty much everywhere

Rooting will not unlock it. You MUST make sure that Gfree unlocks the CID - then you're phone will be unlocked to another GSM carrier, however, will not be capable of 3G/4G on their networks.

Hahaha.....no att doesn't have squat for a network
Tmobile's 3g is faster than att's "4g"
Sent from my atrix
the 4G that the carriers are calling right now is technically 3.5G. the ITU was pressured to lower the original specifications from LTE Advanced to the current so called 4G.
HSPA+ still isn't really 4G. It's simply forced to be called 4G thanks to carrier pressure.
unlocking your phone will allow you to use any simcard. Cost 25$ for unlock code if you dont have it
Hello guys, I was watching a video on YouTube about flashing the EVO 2 BOOST MOBILE , but they didn't say how, so is there a way or a program to do that and is it legal or illegal?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I'm just guessing but I doubt it. Boost mobile phones use a SIM card. And when you register your phone with their network it asks for the SIM card number.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
In short no. Unfortunately the only way to get an evo on boost is by doing a esn clone which is a felony and even talkmg about it here will get you banned. Your best bet is metropcs or cricket. I have my evo on metropcs and i couldnt be happier. But keep in mind with either metro or cricket there will be no 4g or 3g only 1xrtt which is abot 80-120kb/s.
I know its not the answer your looking for but i hope it was helpful.
Also sprint and boost are borh cdma, and sprint owns boost, so no boost does not use a sim card.

Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Boost uses both, sim card network (old Nextel band) and cdma (regular sprint band)...all depends on which phone you have. And yes, you can program an Evo to work on boost. But, it is not officially allowed and an esn clone is necessary. Not to mention the programming is complicated and is not something the average phone user should attempt. Hope this answers your question.

Sorry I misspoke, I should have specified that it is capable of 3g, if your in a 3g market, (which sadly im not)....Unless Daytona Beach is 3g and I just did something wrong...? any hope on that one...
But, I do know that 4g is not possible due to the fact that the EVO uses WiMax and MetroPCS is LTE.
Sorry if i`m posting in the wrong place. but here is my doubt?
Why some websites and on ebay sellers say that Epic Touch has gsm technology and a lot of reviews say the it doesn`t have it.
Most of the ebay sellers write in thir adds GSM 850,900,1900..
and UMTS 900,1900,2100.
It`s not just one seller saying it!!! A lot of sellers says the it`s a GSM phone. In truth, I just found only one add on ebay saying it just a CDMA phone.
I`m getting crazy about all the different informations on the internet.
Are there TWO VERSIONS of Epic? one CDMA/GSM e another one just CDMA?
Thanks for the patience. I`m in love with this phone but I only can buy it were a GSM phone.
CDMA only. Perhaps some of the sellers are thinking the SD card slot is actually a SIM card slot?

Theirs isn't called the epic 4g touch. ATT is the skyrocket and and T-Mobile is called the Hercules. Sprint is the only carrier calling it the epic 4g touch, therefore it is CDMA only (unless ebay is selling the other carrier's versions and using the wrong name).
If you can only buy a GSM, get the galaxy note

Correct but ATT has 2 galaxy's. The Galaxy S II and Galaxy S II Skyrocket
Edit: oh and I'm guessing they have 2 because if you get the skyrocket and have unlimited data, att makes u change your plan to $45 a month for your data

I pre-ordered the phone, should arrive sometime today. My question is about LTE. I live in ATL and is suppose to be one of the first cities to have LTE. If it does indeed work, if I flash to a custom rom when they are available, will we lose LTE? I'm coming from a photon and before that an EVO. On the EVO, I remember CM was just getting 4G to work. On the photon, I lost 4G when flashing a custom. Hope this makes sense to people lol

No you won't lose it.
Maybe not
I'm really not sure how LTE is implimented. It could come with a sim card of some kind, not really sure. Maybe someone who knows can chime in.

The reason 4G is a problem on other phones is because those phones use proprietary drivers that the OEMs don't release. Being a Nexus all the source and drivers are available in AOSP so nothing has to be hacked or leaked to make 4G work. One of the many reasons to own a Nexus

Hi,
First off I live in Ireland where we only have 3G networks. No 4G at the moment.
Now my question is, if I buy a 4G capable phone off ebay.com with a "bad esn" can it be used on 3G networks in Ireland?
Basically can a 4G phone work if I pop a 3G sim in there?
Also in order for this to work I would guess the phone would need to be unlocked. As far as I can see there is a few "bad esn unlocked" phones, but is the procdure to unlock a 4G bad esn phone just as easy as a normal 3G phone?
Thanks in advanced.
Christopher.
If you unlock it, you should be able to use a 4G-capable phone on 3G. I can't see why not.

Bad ESN is for CDMA phones. Does your service provider do GSM or CDMA?

why not just buy a gsm phone and not worry about a bad ESN phone or whether or not a 4g phone will work with a 3g sim? used gsm nexus has to be cheap as all get out by now on ebay or swappa or a thousand other sites.
