[Q] Terrible battery life on Zedomax.v3 - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Just updated to the Zedomax v3 kernel and its been great but last night i unplugged my phone at 99% and 5-6 hours later it was at 49% and I also was using power saver under clocked at 800mhz the whole night.
Why is battery life so bad? should i find a new kernel or delete power saver and cpu master?
Also my battery usage says "Android system" is using 35% and display 22%
Usually is higher than everything...?

I just flashed Lostkernel over Zedo's. Believe me, its better!

It takes far more than a couple hours for a device to settle into a new kernel.

You need to recalibrate your battery after installing a new ROM. There are apps on the market for this.

If you want to find out what is causing your issue.. download CPU spy and watch dog. Run them on s full battery cycle and check.
CPU spy tells you if your processor is staying in sleep mode and wd tells you what apps/processes are polling CPU for usage

I agree Zedo's V3 is outdated and there's better / more current kernels available.
Got boost?

Suggestions on a better / more current kernal?
Have almost the same scenario as OP... was at around 75% at bedtime (with Juice Defender running, and phone in Airplane mode). I usually lose maybe a few points of battery life, but I went from ~75% to 18%. Ouch. Can't go more than 1/2 a day without having to recharge. Ouch. P
lus, phone won't stay shut down. If I power off/shut down, it reboots itself and comes back on after a few minutes. Ouch.
Thanks in advance.

Battery problem

I'hv flashed cm7 last week. The problem is that my defy battery drains too fast as compared to stock Froyo. I have calibrated its battery correctly. Also phone always remains hot. I am looking for solution but didn't get proper solution. Plz help..
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
I've noticed the same, since flashing CM 7.1 my battery will barely last the day, I don't think it's going into deep sleep.
I'm having the same problem
When I flashed CM7 the second time recalibrated and deleted battery stat battery life improved...now i get about 35-40 hrs on one charge.
But of course there are many factors that contribute to battery life and our devices won't be the same.
Not proper solution yet..
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
I had problems too but after the Calibration the battery works just fine.. try Calibration again
Thanks to all..will post after getting my problem solved.trying cm7 stable..

I tried cm7 stable..here battery is draining more quickly..is there any ROM for better battery performance..?

can you give us some numbers and specifics about your usage ? its not possible to give any view point or explanation till we know whether you are running on 2g or 3g wifi on/off etc etc .
that your phone remains hot can be caused by two things (in my experience): your cpu is always on 100%, or your gps is on. First of all, try wiping battery stats from recovery when fully charged, than let it discharge. secondly, try using setvsel to control the frequencies. if your battery still drains fast, check whether its water damage indicator is red (the - originally - white sticker near the battery pins), cuz mine is red, which means it was contacted by water, which couldve caused a short, and till then my battery drains much faster.
You can use cpu spy from market to see what is your cpu doing and the times for each state. Check if it's going to deep sleep.
I always keep my GPS, wifi off.
CPU is undervolted at minimum values as 300-16,600-26,1000-46.
I've already calibrated battery.
My battery statistics are: (approx.)
Display- 40%
Android system- 10%
Phone idle -15%
Cell standby- 10%
Android OS -5%
Remaining- other apps
Display is taking 40% while I always keep it at minimum brightness.

I finally got solution.. My defy's battery performance improved a lot. I have installed wakjiui ROM and calibrated the battery and it was unbelievable. Using it since last week. Almost doubled battery performance. At night it drains by only 2%. And one more thing about wakj ROM is it is perfect combination of miui and some apps from cm7. .
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
i got 48 hours.. sometimes more using MIUI .. highly recommend you to use it!
It is based on miui.

Any ways for ultimate battery life?

I strive on my battery. Using cm7, I make sure everything is toned down and my interface is set at night mode. I was thinking, since I really never need nights on my keyboard, how much more battery would I save by them completely disabled!? They stay off when my battery warns me, so surely their should be a way to rid them all together.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
My god how can you stand night-mode colors all the time? There isn't any functionality for changing the keyboard backlight timer in CM7, it will typically stay on as long as the screen stays on. All in all I don't think it will make a huge difference on your battery since it needs the screen to be on for it to be on and the screen uses way more battery. I doubt you would see any major increases in you battery life anyways, considering you're pretty anemic on your battery as it is 0_0

Just having a second battery is a life saver for me. I bought the spare from sprint -it come with a charging case and a wall plug. I just swap out my battery when it gets down to like 30% and then put the low one on the charger.

Ultimate Battery life solution (one of many)
here is what i did. I invested in the donate setcpu app on the market. Of course you need to be rooted in order to take advantage of this.
Make a profile for "Screen Off" and underclock your processor to max = 200 and min = 100, and set the priority high. That way, when you are sleeping or not using your phone, while your screen is off, ur processor has absoutely no reason to work hard, and therefore will drain your battery VERY little.
Try it, I tested how it works, and had a 100% battery life when i went to sleep at 11pm, unplugged my phone and turned off my screen, and when i woke up at 7am still had 100% battery life.
oh, I'm also on CM7 as well, i'm sure that's helping too. haha

I do the same on my tw rom and I go to sleep at 100% and wake up at 100%... if I go to sleep at 80% I wake up with it still at 80%... underclocking the processor while not in use works very well to save battery...

When I try this, I'm not able to turn on the screen again after I shut it off. Apparently the frequencies are too low to process the screen turning on? I have to pull the battery, restart, and then turn off the profile before the screen shuts off again.
I'm running CM7.2 nightly 21 with the stock kernel.

Instead of using 100-200 use 200-400 for the screen off profile and it should work better...

Juice defender works the best, what really kills the battery is screen brightness and 3g/wifi/4g data syncing in background for apps that require data.Use juice defender and set profile to extreme, when phone is on standby mode it will turn off radio until you wake the phone back up

cpu max ghz issue

ok so i just got my GSIII and downloaded cpu gauge and cpu spy
cpu gauge shows my max cores being 1.026 each I thought this is a 1.5 dual core it should show max at 1.512.... also cpu spy shows NO activity past the 1.026 mark..
phone is fully stock i have not done anything to it yet my question is, Is the phone defective and i need to return to att?? thanks

Yea power mode, horrible feature, barely saves battery and slows phone down. Your phones cpu throttles when it needs to use its power so it saves power that way. Im on JB AOKP and with it overclocked too 1.9ghz and throttling too 197mhz I get awesome battery life. Im sitting at 35 hours on battery with 7% left with moderate use. Thats incredible!

i use the power-saving feature a lot... i get paranoid when the battery gets below 30% and i know lithium ion batteries should never be fully discharged. the phone functions surprisingly smooth at even 1000 mhz and the decrease in speed barely even unnoticeable unless you're heavily multitasking. i also have SetCPU to underclock my peak speeds even lower for certain apps, or during various charging states, or different times of the day (evenings, weekends, work hours), and overclock for more resource-intensive apps (browser, skype, games, etc.).
try undervolting your cpu as well to have the best gain in battery life. ppl often forget the voltage part of CPU especially if you are going to overclock this puppy

Viper 1.01 drains battery a lot

even when one x is sleeping, battery is being drained fast. this afternoon, i left it sleeping when it had 9% of battery. after two hours i checked the phone, it had ran out...
I agree, even I'm experiencing this. I got equal if not worse battery compared to stock 1.29 ROM. I even had the CPU sleeper app installed and had fast dormancy on. I was using it with stock kernel though. I'm going to try the latest Faux kernel and see how it goes. It's reported to give the best battery life.

why you left your phone with just 9% battery overnight?
anyways there must be an app that is keeping your app awake when screen is off hence why the drain...install betterbatterystats and check what is keeping the phone awake..that way you can uninstall that app and no more drain for you.
plus faux i am using and is brilliant

No problems for me, all running good
If fast dormancy is not supported by your network it will in fact increase battery use!

Battery life issues

I'm running Franco r248 and eclipse rom and can't manage even 12hrs of standby almost 10percent an hour battery drain with almost 80percent deep sleep. Any ideas?

From what I've read on the forums, update your kernel and ROM, and/or wipe your battery stats. I believe Clockworkmod should let you clear your battery stats. Boot into recovery with CWM and look for it.

Wiping battery stats does nothing..absolutely nothing. As system is deleting stats every time you unplug your phone @ 90-100% of battery. Wiping it just makes your battery information/calculations go berserk.
You could try can install with fresh rom. I suggest trying slimbean, full stock or with Franco's kernel. Also consider changing your radio/ril if you're in area with bad reception, 'cos it'll drain your battery also.
I'm doing easily 14-20h uptime with 3-4,5h screen on time with slimbean+franco. Idle drain is about 1%/2-3h (no sync, data nor wifi).

If you're referring to a some kind of an app which shows you battery drain, be noted that those figures are fully hypothetical since there isn't a way to measure power consumption inside the phone. Figures are made by algorithm with some data from spec sheets, Android battery stats, etc. It can give you some hints but can't be blindly trusted.
And I have had tested several radios with my ex-SGS and saw that wrong radio had huge impact to idle drain, especially in the low signal strength areas. If course CPU and screen are still the main drainers, but imho radio can't be left without notice..

Flashed to leaked Jelly Bean OTA and trinity kernel still draining like buckets. Got a a battery on order so hopefully that fixes it. Its not a CPU issue as its in deep sleep 80% of the time. Even in Airplane mode its draining at 5-10% an hour
Also 20mins drained 4% using stock 4.0.4 no apps installed. Completely idle
Reflashed to 4.0.4 but unchecked keep my phone backed up to Google and Restore from google and now only draining at about 2% an hour in standby. Now Im running eclipse with leanKernal and getting 1% an hour drain

So it was that backup service what kept your phone awake/running at higher CPU speeds. For a next time, go and grab BetterBatteryStats from chamonix's XDA thread. That one would have said that *backup* is keeping your phone awake (I have seen that in my phone also). Let's hope that you're phone now behaves nicely

I did install better battery stats but nothing was keeping the phone from going to deep sleep. It was in deep sleep roughly 80-90% of the time

Ah okay, then it's little weird since backup service has always appeared in wakelocks and that's how it has been easily founded as a culprit for drain. But anyway, your problem is solved and therefore case is kind of closed
