Hey all!
i need some help guys, i cant make my 3g/hsdpa internet work on my phone. im stuck with a "e" meaning im using edge and never seen the "H" or "3g" icon to use high speed internet.
ive been reading about flashing, and roms and whatnot and i think im in the right place on how to fix it, but have no idea where to even begin..
if someone can help...greatttly appreciated.....
thankx

Couple of things..

First, i would like to know if there is a way to keep the phone's data network ALWAYS on H not on 3G and having them switch back and forth it slows down the internet speed. Is there a setting or something i could change.
Second the notification LED. How can i make it so it can blink quicker.. i dont want to stare at my phone for like 5 seconds to see if its blinking or not...
Third the Swype keyboard ?? is it possible to get that keyboard after i put the Cyanmod ?? That keyboard is way better than the original android one.
I have a Rooted ( S- OFF) G2.
Cyan V6.1.0-RC3.
Thanks!

Your phone is only switching back to 3G if it loses the H signal. So that's an issue of your reception, not something your phone can control.
When i had the nexus one. It was always on 3G. Then i Rooted it. Changed radio etc etc.. and now it was 3g and switched to H like my g2 now. Before i hacked the G2 there was no 3g. It was either H or Edge. And everytime it's on 3G now that it's hacked it doesn't use it.. it simply just takes a few seconds then goes to H.
I use anycut from market.
New shortcut
Activity
Testing
Click on new shortcut
Select phone information
From there I scroll down to force the phone use wcdma.
I don't know if that'll work. You don't need root or anything.
I hope this helps
Sorry if it dont .

It was using 3G before, you just didn't know it. T-Mobile decided that they were going to have their G2's display H for HSPA+ as well as 3G to give people the illusion of almost always using pseudo-4G

The thing is that.. when i do a speed test and my phone is in 3g the speed is around 160-250 kbs then while is testing it switches to HSPA and the speed goes to 2-3mbs.. before I hacked it it was on H. And both of the times I tested in the same place. I understand that tmobile would disguise it.. but its odd that the speed test would switch like that, which didn't happen before. Also 3g and Hspa are two different networks :/
But still thanks for the help.

why is my 3g faster than 4g?

Ok guys, here i go again. I recently installed the "smooth ion" mod thingy, after a little help from yall, and i love it. However, now my data icon is not 4g, but either an "H" or 3g, it switches constantly. I was kinda bummed at first until i realized that my speed was much greater, around 2.5 to 3 mps dl. I only get about 1 mps at best when on 4g. why is this?
Well...4g is not shown as H(3.5G) on Non ATT firmware, so it should be faster. Make sure your apns are correct (assuming AT&T)

well, as it was new, it always said 4g, and even 4g lte when i was in okc, but now it is an H mostly, and 3g flickers on momentarily sometimes. I had made a nandroid backup of the original rooted ics before i did the smooth ion thing so i went back to it and the 4g was back.
yeah what is confusing me is that i did the same smooth ion flash by ganeshbiyer but my icons were still there...
running ATT firmware

Smooth Ion installed new SystemUI inwhich controlled the signal icons. Assuming you got LT28at, you got to understand ATT market called 4g when it really H (3.5G). So when you are not using ATT stock firmware it will unhide the reality - that's why you see the flicker between 3G & H. About the speed it should be the same as whichever firmware you used all depend on signal received. Could be that one firmware gave you better signal reception than anoher.

I have a question for GS3 net work

SOS HELP
when I flashed AOKP's rom and using this rom almost half year
there has a crazy problem is about the T Mobile H+ signal
I remember that I used the stock rom showing the 4G icon everytime. and speed really fast.
but now I'm using the AOKP's rom when you using the H+ maybe just five minutes the network signal change to E(EDGE) or 3G
and network just stopped alittle while like 5-25 seconds then returned back to H+ or H
the problem make me crazy,
I searched in google sometimes but I didn't find any answer, maybe I just use wrong keyword on it.
so, anyone knows this issue? and how to solve that?
AOKP was released a 4g_signal.zip but it could not work right now on the android 4.2.2 ...
It happened every AOKP rom. when I flashed and use it
network signal is really instability.
It's not an issue.. the TMO S3 has only been supporting the HSPA+ bands at most and that is our 4G. When you flash an AOSP ROM it will display H+, which are the bands your on when your network is originally displayed as 4G on a stock ROM. H+ is displayed while data is being transferred. When no data is being transferred your data will bump down to UMTS or EDGE, which displays as your 3G, to conserve more battery. It's something you're gonna have to get used to on AOSP ROMs

Actually, no it does not jump down to Edge when there is no data pull (and you'll use MORE battery, because its search for the 4G network). When there is no data pull, it will display (on custom ROMs) as 3G. When it pulls data, it will show either H or H+. You already know that T-Mo network (exception of the LTE cities) has no difference between their 4G and 3G.
Now, you said that you're getting edge every once in a while. Try flashing a new radio. But, I'm confused, because you said you're trying to flash a 4G zip onto 4.2. There hasn't been a 4G zip even for a long time on 4.1. It won't work with most 4.1 ROMs, as the last time I saw a 4G zip it was for a specific updated of AOKP. Anyway, how long has the issue been going on since you started dipping down to Edge at certain times?

My mistake. That is what I was initially referring to. I should have said H+ displays AFTER data has been pulled. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

[Q] GS3 Cant get data over 3g...

I have a GS3 that I have rooted and flashed to several different roms . Right now I'm running CM10 - 4.1.2. I am getting a 3g link icon but no data. Its getting super frustrating cuz every time it drops from h+ I lose all data and there's many places I SHOULD have service. Can someone PLEASE help me! I can't talk to T-Mobile without putting my phone back stock, and even then, I only have a 1 in 5 chance of someone whos not a moron answering the phone ...
It switches to 3G to save data and battery life, and to H+ when needed. If that's not the case, update your modem/radio firmware. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1860592 for modem firmware.
Time to update your 6 month old rom. And as suggested - your modem, too.
