leaving sensation for SGS2. need input - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

ok ive never liked samsung phones before till i got to play with this beast in the tmo store the other day ,ive already orderded mine and will be getting it in a few days.ive always i guess you could call it "hating" on samsung because i thought their build quality was poor and they tried to be too much like iphone. Well that was then and this is now.The sgs2 won me over instantly when i started playing with it and i even forgot i was looking at a screen with a lower resolution than my sensation because it was so clear and bright. i cant wait to root this thing and install custom roms .ive heard that samsung phones have data issues and reception issues. that didnt seem to be a problem with the demo i got to mess with .any info will be appreciated

that was only with the vibrant, so far that i know! My new sgs2 is fine with all that

I can't wait for root either. Coming from sensation, which is a big phone, this feels humongous. I am sure using different launcher we can utilize the screen size with 5x5 . Love it so far.

yeah it looks massive. i had an HD2 which also was a little bigger than my sensation screen .i guess i just missed a big ol' screen to look at.I played som HD videos on both phones right next to each other and i really could not tell a difference aside from the samsung looked a little brighter. The camera on my sensation was probably a little better but i had the Amaze camera on it and its pretty good, but the camera on the S2 looked great as well so no loss there.Phone was snappy as hell and for people who judge by quadrants i was getting over 3300 on the Demo ,any how thanks for the replies

Like many people I've been eyeing the SGSII since last winter. I wanted it more than the Sensation. It just took the phone too long to drop here. I used a family upgrade on the Sensation in June and fell in love with it. The Sensation ruined me for this phone. I checked out the SGSII today and the 800 x 480 screen is a no-go for me. It's a personal thing for me as I like very tiny text on the screen and it is much easier to read on my Sensation. Plus there is a ton of ROM development for the Sensation. That and I'm perversely attracted to the feel on the Sensation.
The next family upgrade might still be with Sammy though as I'll be eyeing the Prime and even more resolution.
Other than that the SGSII is a beast internally. TouchWiz is lame IMHO but ROMs should fix that problem soon enough. I do like the phone a lot and don't want to say the Sensation is better, I just like it better. I had the wife try out the SGSII to see if she wanted one, but she just aggravated me. I tried to explain to her what a beast of a phone it is, but it was lost on her non-technical mind. That and she knew if she got it, I would be f'ing with it all the time.
Alas Sammy you guys took too long (probably US carrier's fault) and released this badboy here right before you drop the Prime? The delay cost you possible HTC converts (like me) and maybe Sammy fans with the Prime so close.
Is it just me thinking that way?
Sorry if I sound negative against the SGSII, the phone rocks so that's not my intent.

I can't stand vanilla android or small text, so no.

no offense here. main reason i got rid of my sensation is the damn dust under the screen issue . i dont know if i just hit a homerun in the bad luck dept. or what but i sent the phone back 4 times and the last return they sent me had the problem worse than any that i had. It didnt bother me at first but i just couldnt see paying that much for a phone with a repetitive defect so i decided to give samsung a try

I've gone through about 6 of them because of the same issue. The last one I got finally doesn't have any dust but the wifi keeps dropping no matter what rom I use
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App

Just out of curiosity. Has there ever been reports from older samsung phones that had dust in the screen issues?
I have a plug that I use for my aux 3.5mm but if I don't have to use it, then I rather not.

I do not know why HTC phones are so sluggish, although I love sense over everything else samsung or LG has to offer. But I will have to say, S2 is def a great pick. I got mine 2 hours ago and I was playing with it at work. Managed to do this -
now obviously its not rooted or overclocked. But getting a 3800 on quadrant on a snapdragon chip is pretty cool.
Thought i'd share it with people who are trying to make a choice between amaze and s2 like I was

very very few compared to HTC
i have old HTC phones, and yes i do have lots of dust underneath the screen.
but in my case it's probably due the fact the phone shell cracked after too many falls
reason why plastic works better in that kind of scenario, at least it doesn't crack open like the aluminum body

Also, Samsung fuses their screens to the digitizer so there is no space for dust to get trapped in. That's also the reason why their screen seem so bright

Very good to know and hear, Thanks guys.

I cant wait to get home and get mine. i work offshore so i wont be able to mess with it until the 26th when i get home. Dont get me wrong i liked my sensation and with custom roms and over clock i achieved over 3000 on quadrants with a sense rom, but that was over clocked at 1.78ghz and honestly it just isnt safe. seems this phone has that speed and more already stock cant wait to see where development goes for it. And honestly the stock sensation Rom was crap and it seemed like they just crammed it in the phone without any testing

Yeah I had a sensation and eventually got over it. I am not a big overclocked/root/mod person but I'd hand it to samsung for making snapdragon s3 somewhat capable in front of tegra, omap and exynos.

It's their damn Sense that makes it sluggish. Such a resource hog. Funny how ROM developers working for no money make Sense run very well but HTC cannot. My Sensation with stock Sense was sorta "meh" but with optimized Sense ROMs it's amazing. Personally I prefer MiUi though.

Yeah man, so far I am very happy with my S2 I have been able to play 1080p video in the browser w/o lag/crash. And I am getting 15 Mbits down in Northern Virginia, so I am satisfied in that department aswell. I do miss the HTC Sense, but oh well.

SGS2 vs Sensation
Hey tmobile brahs!
I've had my Vibrant for a good year and a half now, and have been long waiting an awesome 4g phone. For the most part, I've simply been waiting on the SG2, but only recently found out that we had another solid option, the Sensation.
I'm currently reading up reviews on both, but i figured I might as well ask you guys, since most of you I'm assuming already have the phone, and had made the decision over the Sensation for a reason/s.
According to my friend, they're both nearly identical, except the GS2 having a slightly better screen. My only worry with the GS2 is, coming from the Vibrant, Samsung not releasing drivers and all that stuff, making GPS for example damn near impossible to perfect with the latest roms (post froyo). Never had an HTC so can't speak on them as a brand.
Thanks guys!

T989 or HTC Sensation

So I just recently bought a T989 and I love it, but I don't know if I should keep it or keep my Sensation. For starters, I love the color and size of the screen on my T989, however, coming from a qHD display to a 480x800 resolution is terrible. Also, I can't stand touchwiz and I love Sense. Development also seems to be better for the sensation right now. That being said, I love the hardware on the T989. Camera is great, battery is great, and I love the feel of the phone. In an unbiased opinion (although I feel many people might pick the T989 ) which do you think I should keep?
If you don't mind an obviously Biased answer, then go for the T989
posting here it suggest so already, or perhaps you have pretty much already fallen for the T989
The T989 is way better than the sensation by far in every count, perhaps except in Development interest
I had my sensation stolen three days after i got it so its not really a good idea to listen to me, but i loved my sensation (first smartphone sicne g1) and i jsut bought a gs2 and im actually not that impressed with it. My sensation's screen jsut looked better to me and it seemed faster. Plus i loved the design
ive owned both and this phone is amazing but i think i miss the sensation =/
better camera, sharper screen, more dev for it... also doesnt it have ICS already?

I got it in a trade in the marketplace. My upgrade is this August which kind of makes me want to just stick it out with the sensation until then.

yeah in august there will no doubt be some new crazy phones out... maybe even quad-core
yeah maybe you could post a thread up in the market again and trade or sell her (T989) while she has a nice value
BTW i went and checked out the sensation forums and they have ICS Sense, Miui, and AOSP! im so jealous! this phone (T989) would be my dream phone with a nice ICS Miui!!

Looks like you have invested pretty deep within the Sense infrastructure judging by your sig. It's no wonder you have attachments to it. I would keep the Sensation for now and then use your upgrade this year when new phones come out.
Personally, I had the EVO 3D, I loved and hated Sense during my ownership. The carousel animations as well as the overall bloated feeling of running Sense 3.0 eventually turned me off. Touchwiz is so much more fluid especially with Juggernaut ROM that I can't go back to any HTC phone.
So we can all agree that the GS2 beats the Amaze but he should keep the Sensation over the GS2...Makes no sense...
I have both currently and I love both for different reasons. The sensation has ICS as sense and asop. If you like sense I would flash arhd as it is a very clean and stable rom with the 1.5 kernal to top it off. Just read carefully on flashing the new firmware which is now required.
For asop in my opinion virtuous inquisition which still has some sense in it with a asop experience is the best. The true asop roms are still a little buggy.
I am glad to see development increase for the gs2 here recently.

Right? My wife has an Amaze and she loves it. It's really a great phone. I had a Sensation before T-mo gave me a GS2 to try out and though I did find the Sensation a great phone, the GS2 just feels way better. It's faster, thinner, lighter, the screen is bigger (though I miss the qHD of the Sensation), & I think the camera quality is slightly better, IMO. In the end, I stuck with the GS2 and gave the Sensation to my brother. I don't regret my decision. Really though, you can't go wrong with either

Gs2 beats both, but the amaze is pretty close sourced for the most part so little dev support. That's why people prefer sensation over amaze. Amaze still has the best camera but there's not much to flash over there.
I think what people are suggesting is that the sensation is a great phone and can hold it's own. If it's not necessary then don't blow your money on a gs2.
I for one need battery life so gs2 is the best for that.

I came from the sensation to a gs2 and haven't looked back...sold the sensation 3 days after getting the gs2. Only thing I wish gs2 had from sensation is the resolution and the instant shutter on the camera. Other than that the gs2 blows it away

Go with the Sensation...
I have the Sensation 4G and I just got an S2 when it was $79.99 after rebate a couple of weeks ago and i'm returning the S2 today.
If you do a pixel test on both and put the screens side by side, i find the Sesation white screen to be whiter. I feel the S2 screen is more light grey or even a bit bluish at times.
Also, development support is also better on the sensation. With a cooked rom, the sensation is just as fast as an S2.
Finally, I love the resolution of the Sensation over the S2. I wonder if the Blaze will be HD (T999).
Finally, the Sensation is cheaper.
There's no such thing as a perfect phone but the Sensation actually has my vote.
I have both as well and while the sensation has better res. The font is Very Small and I have a hard time seeing it. The GS2 as we all no has big font that i can see. I would trade my sensation for another GS2 anyday, even though I love sense.
got an amaze pretty good (stock)
got a sensation too, just to flash roms, and have fun.
t989 is by far the smoother phone.
kind of lost inteterest in the sensation, but its a very nice phone still.
overall the t989 is worth it.
maybe wait to upgrade in case there will be an hd screen coming out.
upgrading to an amaze?
its just about the same as sensation.

The sensation sucks compared to the galaxy... Screen is smaller, has a major "dirt under the screen" defect, and reception issues that htc did actually do an official recall for... Also, it does not have an official release of ics yet... I just came from the sensation and it was very disapointing. The galaxy is so much better in every way, oh n if u want better then great pics then buy an actual camera lol. I buy n re-sell phones on the regular n i will say that the galaxy beats them all.

Deciding on getting Samsung GS2

Hi, i have been an HD2 user for two years now... replaced it twice and all with hardware isues. And have been constantly flashing new Roms... but now, again, my HD2 is giving up on me (hardware wise). And I am due for another upgrade with Tmo anyways. So here is my question...
I have heard a lot of awesome things about the GS2, and specifically liked the new white one. And the Specs are NICE... so I almost decided on getting it. BUT, i found out about the new HTC One S coming out this Spring...
Now, I have looked at both specs, pros and cons... and still undecided on whether to wait for the One S or just get me the GS2... I've notice the following Pros and Cons:
Only one Pros (which is pretty big for me)
GS2 - SD Card = YES : One S - SD Card = none
and three Pros for One S (i'm not sure if this will make it or break it for me)
GS2 - htc sense 4.0 = NONE : One S - Yes
GS2 - Android Ginger Bread = waiting for upgrade : One S - Installed
GS2 - Beats Audio = NONE : One S = Installed
and I've noticed everything else is pretty much the same....
If anyone has any input... THAT WILL BE AWESOME! and will help tremendously in my decision.
As of now, my current phone, HD2 is on and off.... its the "touch screen" problem. I can maybe only use my phone properly 40% of the time... and I need a phone asap....
Thanks again everyone!
I've never seen that new HTC, but I replaced my beloved, but broken, HD2 with the GS2 and other than being no match for the insanely bright HD2 LEDs as a flashlight, I like the GS2 better in every way. Simply a case of newer, better spec hardware. Bigger, better screen, dual-core, better camera, USB hosting, HDMI, etc. The GS2 is only slightly larger in width and height, but is a fair amount thinner and lighter. I'm also getting much better battery life. Although I liked Sense just fine, I don't miss it at all. Personally, I would never buy a phone without an SD slot.
You want the SGII cause there are no cons. I can't stand sense or at first touch wiz. Now I can tolerate touch wiz more now. This thing flies 2x faster than your hd2 and has great battery life plus the HTC phone might come out in April maybe longer. If u wait that long might as well get the SGIII unlocked.

Thanks!
Thank you guys...
no doubt, I am replacing my old broken and overly used HD2... (we had good times...) and just deciding on whether to get the new HTC ONE S or the SG2... and also, from experience, most of the newly released products comes with bugs that they have to fix over time or until the release a newer model of the same kind. so that kinda.... throws me off together with the "NO SD CARD" cons....
ok... so far 2-0 in favor of SG2...
and yea... i know waiting for the unsure is not my thing.... Unsure meaning, not knowing how it would come... and unsure when it will actually be out...
please lets not forget HTC locks their toys up real tight...
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
Locked bootloaders with HTC unlock sucks hard. SG2 is literally a few clicks through ODIN flash and you're ready to flash ROMs.
Better Battery Life
Hardware accelerated out of the box
Fast, I came from an EVO 3D which has dual cores, but this thing is faster.
Gorgeous Display that will stand against time
By the time the One S comes out, we should have ICS already which means development should be booming again.
I'M SOLD!
ok... now.... I think I'm decided...
Thanks for the input on Flashing because I do intend to play with my phone like I did my HD2... well.. if i feel like it or get bored. lol
uhmmm.... how about the AMAZE? any input on this phone?

The slightly,, and I mean slightly better camera on the amaze is not worth it. GS2 flowed better for me. Screen is a little bigger than the Amaze. Other specs similar but played with both and even all the Tmo Reps said to get the GS2. PLus its a Samsung, like it was mentioned,, doesnt take a master planning session to root.
I had a HD2, i applaud you for keeping it that long. Mine lasted for 8months and annoyed me so bad I went to a BlackBerry before going to a HTC G2 then to the GS2. Best decision i've made in 2012.
Go with the GS2. You won't regret it, this is simply the best phone I've personally ever owned(been through quite a few phones through out this past year trying to find one I liked the most without problems). It doesn't even have to think, it just does.

Thinking of jumping ship?

So, had the One X since release date, always had HTC before this. But after having all the issues that have been described here on xda, I spoke to my network (3 uk) and they have said that so long as its within 28 days of the 4/4/12 that they will either replace it for a new one or any other model that they stock.
Now, I'm a flashaholic. I do not want to use the HTC unlock method, always relied on the very clever peeps here for "alternative" ways of s-off. But as it seems the biggest team of Revolutionary aren't working on the One X. I'm considering leaving the HTC brand and moving to the Galaxy Note?
Have any of you guys left the note to come here? It looks the part on paper at least?
Anyone else from 3 UK willing to take the plunge if the offer was sat there?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I think you shouldn't switch to the Note...
Sooner or later there will be a S-OFF tool.
The NOte is IMO too big, but that's your decision. The other reasons why I dodn't get the note:
- DPI is not as high
- the PenTile thing, this means the display has 33% red and blue subpixels. some people don't notice, but I do: there's not a single straight line. it appears as if every other row of pixels was shifted by 0.5 pixels; I just can't stand it.
I highly recommend you to check if that's a problem for you before getting it. Just saying
P.S: Even though the One X isn't perfect, it's the phone the closest to perfect I ever had.
Iff i waz you id go for Gnexus over note the note is ridiculously big my sister has it as a work phone
Mod or Die
see the thing is i am on Three UK as well. and i had the choice for my two replacements i had so far to go for a different handset. and both times i got close going for the gnexus. now all this hype about quadcore for me i am sorry i really did not notice it so far with the HTC one x...yeah apps load faster than ever but 50% of the apps stuck in loading phase...anyways still a great phone i say and i am more than likely to stick with it because i am really liking stock Sense now
but i do miss overclocking and undervolting and also using an AOKP rom...tough decisions to make one thing i do hate about this phone is though why HTC locked the bootloader..why not just unlock it..
Note no way man stay clear of that huge thing..no no no
Hmmmm? Thanks for the replies folks. As for the size issue (that's what she said!) Im not thay concerned, saying that I've never held one! But I currently have a Advent Vega, that if the Note could replace might be a good thing? Kinda streamline my tech, save me carrying 2 devices?
But aswell as a flashaholic, I'm a sucker for POWER! 1.5ghz quad core vs 1.4ghz dual core? I feel in a real dilemma, I love HTC, always have, but the ONE X has, so far, let me down.
@Dobbi, I will look into the red/blue pixel issue, I have now been spoilt by the quality of the one x screen! It is nice.

all honesty mate...it is like cameras..more megapixels does not mean you are going to get better picture. same with the quadcores..so far i would say and yes i know i might get flamed for this my s2 dual core felt bit more snappier at times compare to the one x. so if you are really a flashaholic then maybe the phone to go for is the gnexus...the development for that phone is crazy...but at this moment of time i still will go as to say i will stick with the one x..this must be the longest time i gone without flashing
In all honesty too........my Sensation felt better than my One X.
Please don't go mad at me people. I not a massive sense fan, so that was always the first thing that went once s-off was achieved and all the roms about seem to be sense based or desensed. Not AOSP. I respect all our Devs massively and I am not clever enough or do I have time enough to even begin to learn how to build roms from the ground up using AOSP. But even the sensation was lacking in these roms.
Oh man. I may have to have a long hard think about if I'm ready to leave HTC.

Note is excellent don't let anyone put you off it, I've played with it many times and the size is a sweet spot. I've had the S2 before the HOX and don't find the HOX that much of a jump in size. It's nice the 4.7" but the 5.3" of the note gives you some more real estate.
You get use to the size after a while.
I'm holding ship with the HOX for the time being the only phone that can sway me away will be the SGS3 only if it excels the HOX but for me it'll be down to the software side and not hardware. Sense > TouchWiz.
I'm in a similar situation only that I've not ordered my HOX yet and I'm coming from a Galaxy Nexus. My biggest issue is to be frank all the problems you guys seem to be having with the htc , i dont care what people say you should NOT be having these sort of issues with a final retail handset. I jumped to samsung with the galaxy s2 after years of htc handset (android & wm) and looking back I'm glad I did. How can anyone defend this locked bootloader policy? seems like the days of simply plugging the phone in and flashing straight from the box are gone for htc which brings me onto samsung.... everything is geared towards flashing there phones, hell Ive even got a £2 clip which unbricks your samsung should anything go wrong With all that said I always a space in my heart for htc just a shame this whole mess may have put me off this time round.
Come next week when I can upgrade I'm 90% sure I'll order the samsung note partly for the reasons above and partly because it is such a sweet device despite the PenTile display which is not noticeable, trust me
oh and dont go for the gnexus if you use any games what so ever the gpu is crap and the main reason I switching (missing my psx gaming fun)

well i am sticking with my htc one x for now...the more i hold it the more i am falling in love with it....it was the same when i had my galaxy s2..was scared to root it in the start but once it was done i could not stop flashing..same with the HOX. once i get my grey replacement that would be it for me...hate it or love it this phone does grow on you and no matter what flaws i still would recommend it

What about GTA for starters? Id say anything thats abit better than the norm and your screwed :/
Right. I'm going to go into the 3 store to play with a galaxy note, along side my One X and compare them in real life usage tomorrow.
Real life usage, not stats on paper, not benchmarks, just what feels best. C'mon HTC don't fail me after 4 years of brand dedication.
Report back tomorrow peeps.

Let me know how that goes. If my One X replacement still has issues I might swap for a Note too.
I've used both nexus and note. Of the two the note is far better. After a day, the size is no issue. Plus the screen looks great, battery from what I've seen is good, but there is noticeable scrolling lag when compared to the one x.
That being said, the slight lag is not bad enough to deter someone. My dad loves his note

Isn't the Note still running Gingerbread. So performance might not be as smooth as iCS.

HTC One S....I'm back to the GSII

Had the One S for about a month, not a bad phone...but too many bugs. That phone cant hold a signal. I consistently have better signal on the GSII. Also when making phone calls with the One S other party always complains that m voice either sounds robotic or like i'm in a tin can. Since I primarily use my phone as a phone this is a big show stopper.
One great thing about the one s is battery life. With 3-4 hours of talk time and 3 hours of screen time, I still have 35-40% after being off the charger for 16 hours.
I don't blame you ....the one s feels cheap.
I can't believe no external memory and no removable battery....reminds me of an iphone.

I dont believe in htc hardwares. They sucks.
I waited so long to get s 2 instead of sensation!

Tried out a one s in store as well. Just didn't seem as nice as the sgs2. Really glad I went with the galaxy instead... Especially when i read about all the problems in the one s forums.

I liked the design of the One S to a certain extent but, the more I looked at it the more it looked like a Sensation. Even has the same stupid, cheap cutout for the front cam, which is VGA (Yuck). I totally jumped ship, sold my One S and left T-Mobile and used to the money to buy an AT&T Note.

I had htc sensation 4g. Seriously, HTC sucks, bad signal ever. turn on wifi and phone signal is gone. thats bull ****. won't reccomended htc to anyone.
Had the itch to buy the One S on impulse.
Held back because well... didn't want to pay retail for a phone again.
I got an Amaze in the mail. I hope it doesn't disappoint.
I had mytouch 4G and only complain was ****ty battery life and speaker phone. Just sucks. Otherwise was stable.
HTC is full is like 90% good, and screw up on one piece of the phone that makes it suck. That 10%
Honestly I can say I'm pleased with GS2 overall and my minor complaint is screen resolution and placement of capacitive buttons. Its best phone I've had so far. So reliable and great battery life.
My only complaint is no CM7 Stable full support. I learned to live with Stock based ROMs. But whatever.
I had the one s for a week and went back to the SGSII I believe that the screen on the S2 is way better than the one s the camera on the one s is amazing but all in all S2 is still superior IMO
I exchanged My GSGII for a One S and I'm not coming back. The One S is faster, sleeker, sexier, and better phone overall. (IMO, I don't want to start a war.)
After Owning a SGSII for 5 weeks I was convinced it wasn't the phone I was looking for.
Looking Side By Side the T989 and the ONE S screen all of my friends concluded that the One S screen looked better (even tough the colors on the SGSII looks more saturated, the higher resolution on the One S really helps a lot)
For me choosing the One S over the SGSII was a no brainer.

I agree with everything you said, plus the battery life on the one s is awesome. But, as a phone for me it failed. The reception is much worse on the one s (no reception in places my SGSII easily had several bars) and call audio quality is much worse. Too many people complained that they couldnt understand me when I spoke. I am not the only one to complain about this either. CNET noted the same thing as well as other users in the One S forums. So as much as I liked it, it failed for me in its core functionality thus i reverted back to the SGSII which has amazing reception and call quality.

I have to agree, but that issue was fixed for me with a custom Rom, LeeDroid One Supreme (I think so far is the only one with this) have a patch that fixes the network stability Issue on Tmobile.
Anyway, the SGSII is also a great phone, and in white is a real head turner
I had the Tmobile Galaxy S2 and the international Galaxy S2. The Tmobile version is a beast to say the least. It has the best design and fast as hell. The one S is nice in black, the blue one looks like crap. But HTC has lost my trust in them. Ever since they've entered the dual core business since the sensation, they been EFFIN up.
I don't know...
To me,the one s flies.
Sense on the one s kicks ads.
Beautiful phone.but no ext sd killls it( eff the cloud).
But ummm...one s smokes this amaze and the gs2.

So I bought the Amaze.....
I'm using it so far and its heavy, feels strange in the hand
I make way too many typing errors (wow bigger screen was better)
Speed is ok, after being away from sense i'm like .... meh....
I want CM7 or CM9 AOSP as possible
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is only day one, and I already miss my GS2 and some of its convenience. Hell, I prefer my G2X over the Amaze's heavyness and constant error.
Battery drains fairly fast compared to GS2
Its only day 1. Maybe I'm being too demanding.
Maybe the GS2 grew on me and didn't realize it.
I'm like torn between 3 devices. I will say this, if I have to travel and go out on road and vacation like trip, GS2 HANDS DOWN. That device was beyond reliable and awesome camera for my recent vacation.

[Q] Buying a Nitro now? Good or Bad?

Hi comrades! I was wondering if I should sell my HTC Vivid (Development has stopped for good) and pick up a used nitro off ebay, or should I invest in a Atrix HD, Note, or One X?. I see you guys have some talented devs at work and the Nitro's hardware is pretty kickbutt. So I'm pretty tempted too! Thanks in advance btw!
I've had my nitro for about two months now. Its a decent phone (I came from Galaxy Vibrant) but the responsiveness of the screen is definitely not responsive enough for me. I'm on the official ICS also.
If you're into flashing a bunch of different roms then this phone might not be for you. There are only a handful of devs making/porting roms here. Not that they aren't doing great, I just like to have a ROM buffet . I ordered a Gnex which should arrive tomorrow due to its dev support.
If you can get past lack of support (compared to the vibrant anyways, I'm not bashing the devs here at all) and slightly less responsive touch screen then this phone is decent.
Soo my only gripes about the phone:
Not as much development compared to phones like gnex or vibrant
Touch isn't as responsive compared to my old vibrant
Battery life ain't the best (I'm on extended so that helps a lot)
Pros:
IPS display is great.
Speaker is loud.
Camera is nice
Small community so you recognize most people here
Hardware is nice
I hope that helped!

Don't get any phone with a pentile display unless it is the Galaxy 3. My Optimus LTE screen is just as responsive as the Galaxy 2/ Infuse. They probably use the same tech.
At the going rate for unlocked Nitrous, it.is the best buy right now if you don't need quad core. There is plenty of promising dev support, and rooting is easy.

Nitro is a decent phone. Im still deciding whether or not to go back to the amaze as a backup or keep the nitro.
The touch response is pretty slow, but maybe its more sensative to being covered up with a screen protector.
Its a pretty smooth phone seems to task pretty well. The camera... well i hatevto say it but its awful.
A real let down considering lg 's firsy true flagship had such a killer camera on it.
Could be just the software i dunno.
Battery although most people say it sucks seems normal which .... sucks.
The screen is awesome, really nice i think on par with the one x. And yeah if your going to go with sammy get the gs3 all the other screens including the note are just garbage, that is unless you prefer over saturated unatural colors.
Im actually waiting for the note2.
Rumor its going to have a better screen than gs3.
This is a nice every day or backup phone.
Is it a beast? Hardly.
But i will say this the lg skin is pretty close to aosp.
Dont pay more than 250- 300.
I got mine for 225.

Compared to any non-HD screen phone, the battery life will suck especially if you have a lot of screen on time. Standby time in CM9 or CM10 is excellent though.
After owning, developing for, and having hardware issues with my Nitro before, I can't recommend this phone unless your getting it on the cheap. The hardware issue I had was the microphone stopped working and people couldn't hear me. (It wasn't a ROM issue).
With that said, I have heard bad things from Galaxy Nexus owners as well, such as it overheats. I haven't had my Nitro overheat before but it certainly gets hot if your playing a game on it for an hour. LG needs to work on their quality though, I think many of us believed that the Nitro being a flagship phone at the time would be of higher quality but I really don't believe the manufacturing quality is up to that of Samsung or HTC.
I admit I am nitpicking considering I use this phone every day and it works well for everything I need.
I got two for a penny each....pretty Damn happy with my purchase

As others have said, unless you can get this phone for $50 or less on contract, don't bother. The development community is tiny, there is a huge lack of quality, stable ROMs, battery life is mediocre if you like to use the screen a lot, and the touchscreen isn't that responsive.
I'm getting rid of this phone and upgrading when my contract permits. I was really on the fence about upgrading to the Galaxy Nexus, but decided to keep the Nitro for the time being since it does have a really nice screen.
Honestly. I would get something else. Screen is great. But that's about it. I would get the note because development is great. The one x is growing fast. But the Atrix HD is just getting started.
Depends on if you like an arsenal of roms to flash.
Just got the gnex..
It's amazing. Performance is great, ROM support is great and I love the customizable ness of it. I could change the onscreen buttons and all that.
The only things I miss from nitro HD is the screen and SD card but I can live without those. Nitro HD screen beats the gnex screen hands down but its not enough for me to stay with it.

cool, glad that's settled, now we need to get a mod to delete this thread because I've been planning to sell my nitro for$250+ when the note 2 comes out shortly.

Good luck with that, I've had my Nitro posted up for less than that and nobody was interested even after a month.

Well im glad your faith in the device is strong!!!!!!!
Didn't wanna get rid of it till i had my One X. But i dumped that phone today for a quick $200
