Is it just me or every time I overclock my phone and then go back to normal, my phone gets very jumpy, twitchy, and a bit laggy. My phone is stable at 1.6ghz on zedomax v6.02 kernel, stable at 1.6ghz on "LoSt"exp, and 1.4ghz on tegrack. Anyone else is going through this, and is there a solution. BIG THANKS PEOPLE!!!

Hi, im just about to flash leedroids 2.2.3 rom, which can oc to 1.8 ghz with setcpu, just wondering if there are any dangers in having it at this speed? anything to be aware of ?
It might fry your device, it might not, you never know. There's no need to run it at 1,8ghz. I'd recommend max 1,2ghz for daily use though everything runs smoot at 1ghz already.
If you overclock to 1.8Ghz you will increase the risks to fry your CPU(and hence, your device will be destroyed). Lol.
Also overclocking too high can drain your battery real fast. As per Hawks556, max 1.2Ghz would be fine.(perhaps it is almost to optimal)
I overclock mine at 1.16Ghz and it is already very smooth in LeeDrOid.
You may sometimes wish to overclock it until 1.8GHz is just to show off to your peers only. Maybe through quadrants. But later on make sure you underclock it back.
Cheers. =)
thanks for the help, lol whole thing just froze while i was reading it better underclock it lol : /
OC up to 1.5ghz should not harm your device.
Take a look at ths HTC Flyer: it has the same CPU as the DHD but it's set to 1.5ghz by default.
So there is no risk in overclocking up to 1.5ghz in my opinion.

Are there any bad things that can pop out if phone is OCed to 768MHz? Does it last shorter, can it screw battery etc..?
Thanks
It's unlikely you will 'pop out' something at 768 MHz. Some Wildfire's will not be stable at that speed, and, that is about the worst it can get, in which case, your Wildfire will lag a lot,and you will have to tone down the frequency a bit.
Battery life may take a hit, but, it wont be anything drastic again, also, as for component life, again, it may take a hit, but, even at 768, it will last till the time you are ready to retire it.
what is the recommended overclock speed, i can overclock to 729mhz and its stable no reboots etc or should i overclock to 691mhz??
Not really necessary, if your phone is not behaving abnormally at 729.
Is the difference with overclocking really that noticeable compared to stock speeds?
It's marginal. Definitely not as much as the overclock %age suggests. The only big difference will be in benchmarks.

i just overclocked to 729MHZ its awesome, the speed is noticable , and its stable i hope its fine and doesn't take more battery life lol
got mine at 710mhz and its stable no problems at all
keep the max overclock value at 729 MHz and the minimum on at least 264 MHz.
This saves battery when phone isn't in use and the speed increase is noticeable, it's rather nippy! (certainly for texting anyway)

Status: Overclocked @ 726 MHz - stable
I heard there was a problem with stability issues before. Has it been fixed?
Also, do any of you guys feel the need to OC in the first place?

I tried OC'ing to 1,4 for a short time, didnt get any instabilities.
Which leads me to question two. No I don't feel the need to OC this phone, it is still good enough to cope with everything i throw at it.
The worst that will happen is that it will run a little hotter than normal. I was running Trinity Kernel on RasCream ROM clocked at 1.5GHz and it was fine, nothing crashed, no reboots, all was well.
Besides; It's a Nexus, it was built for this!
This varies for everyone

Meh. It all varies. No 2 chipsets are the same. What may work for someone else may not work for you. Trial and error is the only surefire way to find out.
Hi,
I agree with what has been said above, all the CPU's are not equal but actually the progress made by the kernel devs allows all (or almost) phones to run at 1.3* Ghz (1.34/1.35 Ghz, it depends of the kernel) without any issues.I think it's for all, actually I don't remember a user with issues at 1.3* Ghz...
And for most phones 1.5 Ghz is fine. For some others, above 1.5 Ghz is problematic but it depends also of too many factors.
Now it's not like it when the Genx came out, where 1.3 Ghz was the limit of CPU overclock for all the phones.
And many people can run stable at 1.65 Ghz, also it depends of the kernel.
For me for example my max CPU freq usable each day, so stable is 1.72 Ghz with Glados kernel, above (like 1.8 Ghz) it runs fine for 30 mins, sometimes 1 hour, but after always freeze/reboot... maybe my CPU can't reach this CPU freq or maybe my settings are wrong (voltage) ...
I agree, an extreme overclock like 1.72 Ghz is not really necessary for all day (heat, battery life, etc...) but a little overclock like 1.5/1.53 Ghz and you a difference in certain case (openning some apps, general UI, browsing, etc...).
But if we have the ability to test and play...why not... ,in any case for me it's yes, I like overclock and test the possibilities/limits of my phone, different settings...
Everyone does as he wants and it depends on what you want (battery life,a little more power in some situation like playing or a higher bench score ).
Well considering Texas instruments recommended highest clock speed for this processor is 1.5 ghz I'd say your fine. Anything above that is dependent on how well your chip set will handle it. Besides who honestly has needed to OC for anything other than benchmarks?

Hey guys, First off I need to give the devs for Vicious Jelly Bean high praise! I am having an issue with Faux beta 19 1.8Ghz kernel. When I flash it on my verizon nexus my phone reboots normal and actually faster but it only stays on for roughly 30 seconds and then shuts off. I have to remove the battery to restart. Anyone else having this issue? Thanks in advance!!

I overlocked Gnex to 1.8G with r_data's AirKernel, everything is ok except very hot temperature(nearly 80C in 5 min).
I'd flash a new kernel.
It doesn't sound like your GNex can function properly while OC'd that high.
Why is that necessary on this device? I'm actually curious, not being a smartass.
This sounds very dangerous to me..
The omap4460 (cpu in GNex) supports frequencies upto 1.5ghz.
pushing it higher can only cause problems, maybe not short term, but it will deffinatly cripple the lifespan of that cpu.
Not trying to be a smartarse or owt here, just a conserned bystander.

True but the phone probably won't last long enough for that to matter. As for OCing to 1.8Ghz, I've yet to hear a single good reason why. The OMAP4460 is powerful enough at 1.2Ghz.
I think this is one of them 'yeah but mines bigger' situations.
Are there any danger or downsides to preforming oc ? for example from stock speed to 1.3GHz or even 1.4GHz ?
Because the Arc S runs on 1.4Ghz and the GNex on 1.2 and I was wondering why lol
And it will probably decrease lag..I guess.

Well theorically it could damage your phone. But I've been OC since Dec 2011 on the same nexus and nothing is wrong with it.

If I have helped you.... hit that sexy thanks button. ^_^
Same here, I over clock to around 1.4 and never had issues. My old Samsung Vibrant I had overclocked to 1.6ghz and it was 1ghz stock. Had it for a year like that.
This is MY phone, MY life and MY business. GNex all the way baby. Hit 'Thanks' if I surprisingly helped you.
Remember every chip is different i remember my old nexus s not tolerating oc however with my gnex i've never actually oc'd for extended periods the highest i've oc'd with long term use would be 1.3, however you should be careful while oc/uv-ing, remember to UNTICK the set on boot option if your using trickster
the only downsides maybe if you oc too much and drain your battery quickly .
there is a temp throttle in most oc enabled kernels, just make sure you leave that on after oc/uv.
and yeah like irizwan mentioned, theoretically it CAN damage your phone, realistically, ive been sitting on 1.5ghz max for over a year now, and it is still good as new.
possibly due ot the fact that i dont play any games on the phone and I only browse the web for short periods through out the day on the phone.......
but yeah, you get the point.....downside? it kills your battery, thats it.
I think OP should tell us what he's trying to achieve here. Lag? Maybe its just your governor that could use a few touches.
