Is it possible to move one Program from a ROM to another ROM? I've tried TB but it only see's that it's a backed up file but won't restore. Is this possible and if so, what is the process?
you can unzip both ROMS and drag the app from the Sys/app folder on one to the same folder on the other, rezip it and flash it and it will install with the flash
Titanium Backup is really the only way. What exactly happens when you try to restore? Does it give you an error.
HipKat...thanks! As soon as I posted this I found that I can get into the zipped APK folder, move it to my SD Card, and then use my file manager to install it. Worked great! This is the fix!

I would just download the rom you're using and use 7 zip to copy out the apks u want. Just right click on the rom, choose 7 zip then select open archive. You can copy out any file/apk u want.

So heres what I'm trying to do, I would like to use other apps that I've downloaded after my rom was installed. So Instead of flashing a rom then deleting apps and downloading app and making all kinds of customizations, I would like to create one just for me. So is there a way to pull an apk from my phone through adb? Or are the apps not stored on my phone in .apk format?

adb or root explorer.
If you haven't already install DROPBOX on your mac and your phone.
With dropbox setup use root explorer to go into your data/app folder and copy the apk to your sdcard root.
Then use dropbox to upload the apk.
Wait for your mac to sync and you now have your app apks on your mac.
Just to give you a heads up, some aftermarket apps need some extra work just to get them to install AND work with the rom installation.
I use MYBackup pro or get the trial one. back up all the apps you want to you SD card then open the SD card and look for rerward folder open it and all the .APK you backed up will be there.
I installed Redemption Rom 2.3 last week. So far luv it....it fixed all the issues I was having with stock. The main issue.......lots of times I could not answer the phone!
Anyway...I only have a 2gb SD card. I was looking at it today and there is a folder (unzipped) that says "Redemption Rom". In it, is the contents of the zipped file I downloaded and installed. My guess is that during the installation, the zipped file got unzipped here.
I'd like to delete it but want to be sure.

Lou used to make an additional/optional apps folder that installed w/ his ROMs.
Does this folder have apps in it that are not in the ROM?
As long as that folder isn't the optional apps folder, you should be fine to delete it.
Likewise, if you have a RR optional apps folder and no interest in those apps, you can delete those too.
Assuming you have a backup of your current RR setup already before you delete this folder?

I have used ASTRO file manager but cannot locate the .apk files. I have already used Titanium Backup Pro but I have found that the .apk files are backed up a .tar.gz files. What I want to do is backup the .apk files as .apk files for future resoration or transport to another Android device. I have searched the phone and cannot loacte where the downloaded .apk's are being stored. Could someone out there please help point me in the right direction.

You have a couple of options. You can tell titanium backup not to use compression when backing up, or you can use 'Root Explorer' and navigate to /data/app where you will find all your user installed apps, be aware that the data for the apps, such as save games etc... is stored in /data/data.

I tried turning compression off but titanium backup still created .tar files, not .apk files. Secon option of using root explorer worked just great.

You can use Titanium backup, which will create compressed file, but you can decompress it on your PC and extract .apk file.
Method I use is with ASTRO. Go to menu-tools-backup programs, choose programs you want to backup and hit 'Backup' button. Then navigate to backup folder and there are your programs. But be aware, they will show market names whic are not always easy to determine which .apk is which program.
I use appmonster as it backs up when you install from any source, using an old version 1.9.0 as they changed the way it puts file names, nopw it does via market, on prior it was a readable name
I am using app saver, it works~
A simple option would be to install appInstaller (the one by Gregory House) from the market.
It's a lightweight app which backs up apk files to a folder on your sd card named app saver.

It all depends of the app...if is a system app or a market one. You have to use a file explorer such as file manager or ES explorer.
If the app you are looking for is a system on you need to be rooted.
Try apk extractor in the market its free, its what I use.

hi guys, just switched to cm7.1, its a good rom, i was wondering if its possible to add your own apps into the rom and then flashing it? what i mean is to add your own essential apps into the rom and then to zip it so it uses up more rom space and leaves more internal space. if there is a method, can some one please give some idea on it. thanks
Of course it is. Just copy the app's apk from /data/app in the /system/app folder of the zip file.
Thanks but can you explain abit more in detail please, like if i put the apks in that folder, will the apps automaically be installed? and as for the rom zip file, will that need to be zipped up back in a special way? also will the apk's need to be signed with a special program? a small accurate guid would be sweet. thanks
There are two ways, either manually open the zip (no need to extract it) then just drag and drop your apk files to the System/app folder or data/app folder then close the window. Sometimes it doesnt work it depends I think on how the files was compiled or something.
Or use ROM manager. Look it up in the forums.
Edit: Its Rom Editor if my memory recalls it correctly.

No, just open the zip and stick the apk's in that directory. Then when you go to flash just disable signature verification..
I'm not sure as to how this will go about saving space though.. it's the same as installing apps AFAIK

In a way it does save space. I remove some apps that I don't need from the CM zip like ROM Manager, live wall paper etc and then add my apk files on system instead of it being saved in data folder.

with root explorer yes, but I don't think they'll actually be installed just by putting them there..

Yes you can manually install apks to the system/app using root explorer. But you have to modify the permission of the apk file upon transferring. It is best that you first copy the apk from the data/app folder to sd. Then uninstall the app. Then use root explorer to transfer the app from sd to system/app. Update the permission then reboot.
Take note that not all apps will work with this method. Some apps just needed to be on the data/app folder based on my experience.

Yup. I forgot about that. Yeah damn easy too.
Ok so I just rooted my S3, 4.4.2 Boost Mobile phone. Worked fine. No problem rooting it. Made a backup using CWM and then I installed Philz recovery and also made another back up. In recovery it shows BOTH backups, and says they are located in
/sdcard/clockworkmod/backup
then in individually named folders of the backups.
HOWEVER, when I look using ES File Explorer, I only have the clockworkmod folder, and it does NOT contain any other folders, no "backup" folder at all.
Ok, so let me try the Aroma File manager. Same thing if I go to /sdcard/0/clockworkmod/ there are two very small files:
".last_install_path", and ".recovery_version".
HOWEVER, I am able to navagate to /sdcard/clockworkmod/ and THERE I find the backup folder with my two backups.
Why can I not find this folder from android? Even when I use STORAGE ANALYZER and tell it to look at the system parttions and even when I use ES FILE MANAGER and tell it to do an SD CARD ANALYSIS, it doesn't show these backups. So I have copied a backup to the download folder of the sdcard and am hoping to copy it over to my PC before flashing a new ROM.
NOTE: I do NOT have an external SD Card installed yet.
I just thought this is super strange. ?? Anyone have any idea? Thanks.
Now after booting into Android and looking into the folder I copied to /Download, the folder is empty.. !?!? I'm SO LOST right now....
It SHOWS that space is missing on my device so these files DO EXIST SOMEWHERE but SOMEHOW it's as if they are being hidden... is it knox???
Ok if I use "MY FILES" I can see the folder that I copied to /Download and the files in it, but NOT if I use ES File Manager, and NOT if I use Root Explorer. However even MY FILES still shows clockworkmod dir as empty!?
Ok so it turns out it has something to do with a permissions issue. Why is that? I run Storage Analyzer and when I try to click on the recoveries I copied to /Download it tells me that I don't have permission for that folder. Do I need to run some kind of FIX PERMISSIONS on this? Is there such a thing for the S3?
