what kernal, and rom are you using?
Also, might want to try posting this in General. This really isn't development related.
Ok I have alot going on over here on my brothers Epic 4G. First off i rooted it and is running ACS SyndicateROM Twilight Zone 1.0.4 (Malanga) EB13 build, im pretty sure you guys know exactly which ROM thats is, but anyways, he is getting horrible battery life and I was going to try to put him back stock and see what the newest updates for the Epic would be. For some reason whatever I do to try to Odin it never works but thats another story. Basically what I want to know is what ROM out there that doesnt really have alot of bells and whistles and that has great battery life that I can load up? Since I cant seem to upgrade to EC05, I guess i have to stick with a EB13 build.
I also know kernels has alot to do with the battery life as well and right now its running kernel 2.6.32.9. IDK just by looking at the kernel you know if it has bad battery life or what. I am going to try to wipe the battery stats and see how that works out.
Sorry for all the noobish questions. I am very familiar with loading ROMS and kernels and Clockwork and all that since im a ROM tester for the Droid 1, and I know things are similiar but I do see their are some differences. If someone could help me out I would greatly appreciate it.
You probably won't get much response or get a response you don't want posting in a dev section.

some roms like midnights will automatically update you to ECO05, but a good, stock rom would have to be Simply ASOP, otherwise, just flash all the other EB13 roms. there hasnt been an update to most roms in months now though

#1. There is an update.zip to change the modem, have you tried this? I am unsure of Samsung's tool as I upgraded my modem through that update.zip that was made by ACS as well I believe, look around...
#2. Go to the ACS newest ROM (3/27) it is 1.1 I believe, and they have detailed instructions on how to upgrade, as well as pretty good instructions on Kernels, I would look at the Twilight kernel that runs with ACS well, just to keep it easy for now (although there are others and no disrespect to any others). The instructions to load the new kernel and modem will be in the ACS thread, please go there and read the first 2-3 posts that give you a good rundown of the ROM, and if you really do have some techie knowledge you should be able to easily load up the newest ROM....
I know this is the wrong section, but I'd rather help than bash, next time you can play with the forums and figure out where to post please (actually not general discussion, there is a Q&A page...).
I would really recommend ACS newest ROM 1.1 it is solid and the kernel is an excellent every day driver.
You may be having trouble going back to stock with odin die to the conversion to ectension4 try and tick the re position box if you go that route.
You won't be disappointed with acs 1,1 takira(i believe)
Peace

Is there a ROM that has a compass fix? I have CM7 and the compass is still backwards in Google maps. I've heard that the OTA 2.3 GB update fixes the compass issue. I don't want to update OTA though because I want to keep s-off.
Because this is a question it really shouldn't be in the development section. Just remember that if it is a question, it should always go in the General section. Even if it is development related.
But rather than just be a nag, the Gingersense ROM floating around is a rooted, deodexed version of the OTA. That is what I'm running and have no issues with the backwards compass. Then again, I never saw that problem when it was on Froyo either.

Thanks for the advise. I just installed the gingersense ROM and it works great. Now if only it had an overclock option in it

Can you point me to this Gingersense that I keep seeing? Is it the RMK Sense ROM? If so, it's awesome and yes the compass works.
EDIT: Duh, forget it...I'm an idiot. That is all.
Hey guys. I'd post this to the ROM's thread, but I don't have the rights as of yet.
I was hoping there were still some out there that use this ROM, cause I am currently running the 1.3.0 Nightly from 10-13. If you go to the index of files on the server, though, there is a 10-24 nightly available. Does anyone know if they use this one? Do any features get broken if I switch? do the Data Arrows animate in the newer nightly? I know this is a non-support ROM, but I figured it is worth asking. Thank you, in advance.

Nevermind
I decided to just flash it with Tiamat's 1.1.5 kernel. I see only improvements with this build. Not that anyone cares, seeing as ICS AOSP gets better and better every day, haha. I am considering another flash...
I was trying to post to Ca1ne's thread and kept getting that stupid bulletin about not having permission...
I couldn't find an answer to my questions anywhere and since I am a semi-noob at Android Dev I don't know if there will be any conflicts. Better safe than sorry is my thinking. My ROM is stock, Sense, S-On, rooted with RA Recovery. I have already flashed Ca1ne's Classic Kernel.
Question 1:
Can I use the SmurfedOut Script with Ca1ne's Classic Kernel?
Question 2:
After flashing Ca1ne's Classic Kernel can I flash his UnderWorld Kernel on top of it?
Part2: If I can flash Underworld Kernel on top of Ca1ne's Classic Kernel can I used SmurfedOut on that as well?
TIA to anyone who answers!
Yes,yes, and yes. Just remember to wipe ur caches before u flash the kernels

FYI - you has permission issues posting to the Dev's thread because you arent allowed to post there until you have 10 posts in the QA section. Probably so people cant sign up, spam the Dev's and then disappear.
Yea if you meant to keep both kernels, then no. Only one will stay, which is the one you last flashed. You can flash smurfed out also.
[RESOLVED] Ca1ne's Classic SBC Kernel and Smurfed Out
Well that was quickly resolved. I've already pressed the thank button to everyone because everything was important info. I love XDA!
