Hi guys,
My XDA orbit is about to clag up and needs hard reset/ or reformat. I need to backup quickly.. but....
All my active synch will do is allow me to browse the files using explorer, and it will not synch with Outlook 2007 on a new clean pc .
If I cannot synch the vital ones held on the XDA orbit calander, contacts, etc. with Office directly, is there another method?
Can I for example copy 'certain' files from the XDA and put them on the pc and import them into Office?.. or can I do a sprite backup in such a way that I can open upo the files on the pc and import them into Outlook?
Thanks
Ann
ps If I open up Active synch on the XDA i just see the intial blurb " To sybch wth a desktop computer , install acrtivesynch on your computer and then connect this device... etc..etc.."
&
If I open up Active synch on the PC then I find Synchronize and Options greyed out.

Heya,
can you delete the membership in active sync ? I would try to delete the membership and connect again. Which version of ActiveSync you're using ?
When you start ActiveSync on the phone, it's also greyed out and you can't change anything ?
Maybe using PPCPimBackup is a temporarely solution for you - you can backup all your contacts, calendar, tasks etc to your storage card, flash another ROM and restore these things back. Here is a description how to import the PIMBackup file into outlook.
Cheers
Hi,
If I understand you - your intention is to backup your personal informations like contacts, tasks etc. before hard reset (with no possibility to synch with PC)?
In that case you can use PIM Backup (search xda-developers). You can save contacts, phone calls, tasks, appointments on SD card and restore after hard reset.
Sprite Backup also have such a possibility.
Hope this will help you.

I'll finish it off tomorrow
I currently have 350 outlook contacts on my works PC and I want to extract them and place them onto my Orbit. Problem is that my works PC has Activesync 4.2 on it and I need 4.5 to connect my Windows mobile 6.0 device to allow transfer via activesync. I tried downloading and installing 4.5 on the pc but it fails and I am not sure if it is because my work PC runs windows 2000 and it is not compatible. I can back these up to a ‘.pst’ file etc but can anyone tell me how to transfer then across to my orbit failing the ability to activesync? I know that once on the orbit I can use the pim manager to backup and restore them as required. Thanks in advance JD
Use Import/Export on Outlook
Hi, you can use the import/export option under File menu.
Select "Export to a file" then select what ever the file format (preferebly excel) and save it on a file.
Then similarly import that file on any PC with ActiveSync 4.5 on it and then sync the PPC.
I am sorry if you are looking for method to sync it directly.

If you own an XP PC version at home you'd better install Microsoft Outlook 200X + activesync 4.5 then backup your outlook.pst file from your work PC and sync everything from your home XP PC. That would be the best way to sync them, because sometimes activesync is killing your contacts both ways if you decide to erase a PC connection partnership.
Thanks Gguyaz this sounds feasible..I'll investigate this possiblity over the next few days. Thanks for all the replies...JD...
Hi all,
I am having my phone replaced by Orange (GPS and 'no network' issues).
Is there a piece of software that I can use to backup my HTC DHD to PC to include all data. By all data I mean apps, SMS, contacts, etc...?
Or, failing that, if I copy everything from the phone (in disk drive mode) to the PC from my old phone, and then copy it back again, will it all appear as it was?
Thanks in advance.
If you have a rooted phone then a simple nandroid backup will copy the exact state of your phone which can be copied to your pc and restored at a later date.
If not, then then the process becomes a bit more tedious, I'm afraid. Downloading and running the SMS backup + app should cover the text messages. Syncing or backing up contacts will sort out contact details. You can use BookmarkSB to save and restore bookmarks, and syncing the calendar events with you google account will prevent you losing anything.
For other app data, you may have to go into particular apps and back up manually. Even then, I'm not sure how you'll be able to instantly restore things like home page and icon layout.
Good luck.
Oh, and HTC sync may help too.
I used MyPhoneExplorer for that, can backup almost everything. Didn't need root access too
google it up
yup..i used phone explorer........but tell me which type of connection for usb is needed for backing up ????????
i mean is it disk drive or Htc syc ??????

I'm not this is achievable on a stock ROM, but maybe you can download the apk from your computer, use the usb cable to copy the apk onto your phone and run the apk from your phone. That should install the application, and allow you to backup your messages.

Have even tryed htc sync?

If you have a stock ROM, there MUST be at least one application that allows browsing of your SD Card. You're sure you're not running some carrier-brewed OS right?

Dude,
Need a bit more info, you running stock or a custom ROM?
Are you trying to use PC companion?
Have you got all the drivers installed?
Sent from my Xperia S using xda app-developers app
Am on stock .55 rooted. I had all the drivers installed and am not using pc companion to transfer files but I had that installed. Previously am on xzx2 and everything worked well. Also tried sd mounter but it also not working.

Dude,
Try this worked for a friend of mine.
Before beginning make sure that you have the latest versions of your Windows updates and Windows Media Player.
1. Begin by turning off USB debugging if it's enabled.
Menu > Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging
2. Clear data for the MTPapp in the phone.
Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage applications > All > Mtpapp
3. Connect your phone via USB and go to the Device manager on your computer. Check if you can locate your phone or any Unknown/New device that could be your phone or if you perhaps see the phone as an device. Right click it and select to uninstall.
4. Still in Device manager open the list for USB controllers (Universal Serial Bus Controllers) and right click each one of these controllers and select to uninstall.
5. Go to the control panel and Add/ remove programs. Select Add/ remove Windows components. Check Windows Media Player and next. Finish this guide.
When all of this is done reboot your computer and before connecting your phone again repeat step 2.
Let me know if this worked for you.
Thank you very much for your solution.
But I flashed my phone again using flash tool and formated my sd memory. Now its working great. BTW thanks again for ur solution and I already kept a note on it as it may helps in the future.
