Lol, so I had to try the downgrade steps provided by jcase, and now I regret ever doing it. It worked no issues whatsoever, but wow I must have forgotten just how bad the bloatware was on this thing.
Question to anyone, have you had success getting alpharevx working in ubuntu? I have a backup computer running xp that works killer, but its just a pain trying to get to it. And I have a ubuntu live cd with adb already set up.

When alpha rev first came out I used ubuntu to gain s off with alpha and it worked perfectly there's an of tutorial on here somewhere I followed it step by step and it worked perfectly

How'd it work out?
Try using revolutionary instead of alpharevx. http://revolutionary.io

Do you have the SLCD screen, this time around?
Clockworkmod just released a new version of recovery for SLCD screen user's...
I don't know if this could be the problem or not, just sharing what I know.
Hope you get this figured out!
How do u know if it is a slcd screen

So anyone have any info on whether this root method for the 3D will work on the 4G?

Considering the Evo and the Evo3d are two completely different phones, I highly doubt that would work for ours
From what I have read it is a gingerbread kernel exploit... which may work.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Ever notice how the rage exploit was used on multiple phones.... unrevoked
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Seriously, I know that I'm anxious, but correct me if I'm wrong... Any general exploit, OS or application such as Adobe, can be used to gain root on any system running it. Since we already have eng hboot and recovery for the evo this may be what we have been waiting for.
I don't know a ton about kernels, but I don't think every phone has a different one...
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
If I was forced to guess - I'd say yes.
They're both coming with the same bootloader, and they're both coming from the GB update. The only real difference between a 3D and a 4G is the kickup in hardware specs. Otherwise, they're the same thing for all intents and purposes.
I kind of always suspected that those GB OTA updated 4Gs would be "saved" once someone came out with a 3D exploit/root.
Getting root is only half the battle. The locked bootloader needs to be fixed, as well. Can't do much with root if you can't mess with recovery at all. At best, it gets you Wireless Tether and root-needed apps back - but nothing in terms of flashing any roms or the like.
Thanks. When did HTC start locking the bootloader?
This may help clear up the confusion regarding root and s-off...

"20:05 <@agrabren> We don't believe it will work on the EVO 4G."
so it doesn't look like their exploit works with the 4G
I sure hope so......Not only do I have a 3D, but my wife's Evo bricked itself while charging last night. I'm quite sure that the refurb I'm supposed to be getting will have the GB update already on it when I get it. :{

Dammit!!!! Well, at the very least we know there are still weaknesses in HTC's armor.
I just got my replacement a week ago, brand new evo, after my phone fell out of my pocket on the freeway while on my bike, and it came with GB on it, I tried swapping the logic boards on the phones but no go, it was fractured.
Any word on "progress" <---(PROGRESS NOT ETA; hents, 'going good', 'not even trying', 'hit a brick wall', or 'too busy playing with myself') with the new B.S. hboot 2.16.S*thware? Searched and came up with nothing, and been searching religiously everyday and no sign of anyone saying anything. Is every Dev working the 3d over like a $2 hooker and forgetting phones break and have to be replaced?
I am waiting also, my speaker is blown on my 003 hardware EVO, and I'm not going to subject myself to flash withdraws until the new one gets rooted
fre3vo
I just ran fre3vo on my EVO 4G and it said...
locating access point...
This device is unsupported by this exploit.
BUMMER!

Uh... Each device has its own kernel. You can even have different kernels for the same device. Each with different hacks and features. Sorry don't have an evo. Just browsing recent posts/threads.

I used it and it worked for me. As long as you are familiar with odin it should be pretty simple. Good luck

I don't know where to start, I saw a video on how to root with US SGSIII root file but the file is not available, where can I download it and if anyone has used a Mac and can give me some tips I would really appreciate it. I also, checked the wiki and did search but couldn't find anything.
Your going to have a hard time rooting with a mac, no Odin support. Just try a windows computer. There not to hard to find

Thanks a lot, I'll try Bootcamp and see how it goes. Basically I should start with Odin right?

Yes. I believe there us an sgs3 toolkit in developer's section that can root it too. I have not used this method so I can't tell you how well it works

I have not done this to my shiny new s3 yet, but on my Captivate i would just use Heimdal instead if Odin on my mac....just something to look into

So wait - is there no other way at the moment to root a GS3 on a Mac? I usually don't mind experimenting with terminal, but damn that seems involved/risky.

to be honest, the easiest way is to just borrow a pc for the initial rooting using odin. afterwards, you can just use adb on your mac to copy files to and from your phone.
Just install a 30 day trial of Fusion or Parallels, load up Windows and you're on your way.
Just download everything you need onto a flash drive walk into a best buy Walmart or target and do it there. Takes 5 minutes

Hey guys this is my second OG. I had that rooted and it was sooooo silky smooth. So smooth. The new one I have is not rooted. My windows laptop went out so I got a new one but I had to get a Mac for work. Now I need to root again. I may be wrong (Feel free to troll on this) but its not possible to root on a Mac. This phone not rooted is trash. I mean it's ok but I need to try out this CM 10.1. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
