Are Custom Roms with Mobile Hotspot Now Moot? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all. Now that Sprint is also going to charge for tethering, is the hotspot hack still worth it? I had planned on tethering my phone with my wifi only galaxy tab 10.1.
Thanks!

What? They blocked tethering apps but have no way to know for sure that you are tethering. So Hotspot away. You can use way more data filling your sd card with movies everyday.

Root Unlimited Tethering gone?

Was looking to join Sprint and get a ET4G but wanted to know if the root tether method still worked and is unlimited since Sprint has put a cap on it?

The cap affects hot spots.
It doesn't it doesn't have anything to do with rooted tethering as that just shares the internet on the phone, which is unlimited.
Would wireless tethering be the same as a hotspot?
I get what he is saying. Android has tethering built in at a OS level. Its always there but Sprint blocks it and adds their own stuff which is monitored. Since root tether makes use of the phones data Sprint can't limit Hotspot since you aren't using it.
It works just fine.
Hey is it ad hoc still or infrastructure on wifi tether

[Q] Tether iPad/iPod to Epic Touch 4G?

I'm considering upgrading my EVO to the Sprint Galaxy S2, and the only thing giving me pause is the ability to (simply) tether my iPad. I know Wireless Tether only broadcasts in ad-hoc mode, does anybody know if the iPad supports ad-hoc wifi connections? Or does iPad only support infrastructure mode?
I'm aware of the Hotspot Hack but I would like a less complicated solution that works on 4G. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286236)
I am using the ET4G with I pad 2 for a week now with no problems. The only issue is the phones signal , very slow I hope the next update fix this problem. I think it will cause its meant to fix LOS.
Love the phone

Which tethering app are you using? Wireless Tether or the Hotspot hack or something else?

Wifi Hotspot

I've been looking through the forums and I've seen a lot of hotspot hacks. Which one should I install through cwm and if I do set my phone as a portable hotspot, will it show up on my Sprint bill and give me the hotspot plan?

Wireless Tether app is one of the most popular also you don't need to use CWM to install, it can be downloaded right from the Market. The only thing is you need root. I have Sprint and so far they haven't made me pay extra for the tethering.
Go here for 4G Hotspot.
It won't show up your bill as long as you use cm and a hot spot hack

Free wifi hotspots and tethering?

I used to have an s2 and I remember after rooting I could freeze or uninstall something called tethering manager to get free wifi hotspots and tethering. I just rooted my nexus and I was wondering if I could do the same.

On Verizon? Or GSM version?
If you're on GSM you can just use the built-in app no problem.
On Verizon you gotta look it up. I think that the Google Tether app works.

i was just going to download barnacle or tether, but if its built in then im golden!

Unrestricted Native Tethering

Hey guys I'm looking for a little help. I'm looking to leave Sprint and come to Tmobile for obvious reasons. My question is I saw that Tmobile has unlimited data but limits your tethering to 4 gigs. I've noticed that some ROMs comes with Unrestricted Native Tethering. Does this mod bypass that limit? Because I tether a lot. Thanks in advance
Yes, there are roms that have unrestricted tethering. I'm currently using Darthstalker V7. Works great.

Thanks for the response. That's all I needed to hear to make the switch!
As long as you have great t-mobile service in your area you won't regret it.

If you just root your can use the app below. Works on kit kat and does not use your tethered plan.
Check out "WiFi Tether Router"
