Depends on the ROM you're running...

If you're using CyanogenMod then go to Settings > CyanogenMod settings > Input > Search key behavior and change to do whatever you want
If not, here's an app that lets you control what it does http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818499

Is it possible to change the multi-tasking button to a menu button without installing a new rom?
I believe it is possible if you go into Settings > Display. Check the options there!

I think (if I remember correctly) that in aokp or cm10, where you can configure the touch keys, there was the power menu stuff, you could put it by long press on the back button. I'm not sure about this anyway, I'm on my sense rc7 now

There's and update? And that should be controllable from Settings > Sound > System > and uncheck keytones. Or, go to Language and Input and select the keyboard you use. There will be sound settings in there, possibly under the advanced option (if given.)
Thanks worked great

Hi,
Is there a way to create a shortcut to settings->sound->volumes?
I want to control the volume without having to press the hardware buttons and without third party apps. The only way seems to be to go in settings but that's like 5 taps to adjust the volume. It would be great if I can access the volumes menu directly.

Go to widgets and get the "settings shortcut" widget and select "sound".
