I was running synergy for a while. It was the beat rom out there to me, absolutely loved it until I ran into an issue. I'd go a half day or so without receiving a text but would think nothing of it because I'd be at work. When I'd get off though people would call me asking why I was ignoring them when in fact I hadn't received any texts. This started happening day in and day out. There would be the rare occasion that I did receive the texts and just not get any notifications of them but mostly they just weren't received. Does anyone know what may be the cause of my text issues. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

i would always do a full wipe and reflash. I've had that problem on Synergy as well as MikG. I also use an app called Ghostly Gingerbread SMS from the market which catches all of the missed messages (i highly recommend it). Apparently Gingerbread has some kind of bug with the internal database.
I wouldn't blame that issue on Gingerbread. I've been using Gingerbread forever and the ONLY time I had that issue was when Google Voice completely screwed up my message handling.
OP, if you're using Google Voice make sure your Sprint number isn't integrated with it at all. If it is then Google Voice is handling your messages and you'll have to modify strings within the Google Voice app in order to get them on your normal messaging app.

I would because it has happened to me and I've had to use that same app with Syngergy. I use Google Voice but ALWAYS skip Sprint intergration as I want my texts going to the Sense SMS not Google Voice. I only use GV for my voicemails.
Apparently, if your RAM gets too low, GB will end the SMS database process which will cause your phone to lose messages.
I had this happen between me and my girlfriend. We text constantly and there has been many instances when I have used Synergy or really any Sense 3.0 based ROM that several messages would not come to my phone.
It does not seem to happen as much on the Sense 3.5 Roms I've used as there is either more RAM available or perhaps the later versions of gingerbread (I'm running 2.3.5) have this bug fixed.
It was very annoying to say that least, thinking your being ignored when really your phone just never "saved" the text, lol.
Thank you for the help, ghostly does the trick wonderfully

OK I know this has been brought up a few times in the CM threads. I get this ghost VM notification on CM6 and on all the nightlys. I also am getting this ghost VM notification on the MIUI rom. I do NOT get this notification on ANY sense ROMs I have tried.
I read this Forum everyday as much as I can. I have tried search. Every thing that comes up close to what I have going on doesn't seem to get fully answered as to why this is coming up on some phones and not others.
I flashed CM6 and a few nightlys on my Wifes phone and She has NEVER received the *86 VM notification.
I am always updated to the most current PRL, PRI and NV. Nothing I have tried will clear this message. On the CM6 ROM I can hit the clear button under the notification bar and that clears it for a little while but then the damn thing comes back.
Can anyone explain this and offer up a FIX. I know I'm not the only one.
Any one have any help on this?

Thank you Brutus for the input.
I know all about that part of the set-up. This DOES NOT get rid of the Ghost notification. I still will get a notification that I have a voice mail (and YES I have checked to make sure my VM's are cleared out).
Just FYI I use google voice when I am on CM6 or nightlys. Google Voice works great but still will not clear the VM notification.

Dont skip my post I am going to say two diffrent things . First normaly you get the notification because you received a voicemail. The stock rom has a code writen in to block that text so that you dont see the notification when you receive a voicemail.
Now Jetdr I will try to answer your question here. I think your voicemail hasnt been provisioned. Click on your VVM app and hit menu, when you hit menu you should have 3 options, compose, search and settings. If you have a 4th option that says unsent or undelivered click it. When VVM sets up, it automaticly sends a voicemail to the server to setup your VVM. If that message doesnt get sent then it probably never will. You will have to uninstall the VVM.Apk and reinstall the app. One time when I was setting up CM6 I had to install the voicemail apk several times before I got it to provision correctly. If it doesn provision a minute or two after you install it then its not going to. Not sure if this is whats causing your ghost voicemail text but I am thinking this is it. The easiest way to tell is to just click the vvm app and see if it shows four options or three. It should only show three.
If you are using google voice you dont still have the sprint VVM installed do you? If you dont have the sprint VVM installed then I am not sure whats causing your issue considering my directions to fix your issue is in regardes to the sprint vvm app.
Hope that helps.
I've tried all that and more.... nothing fixes it. I've concidered calling sprint but don't want to ruin my insurance..

Twilk... thanks so much for the response. I did all you suggested and I flashed back over to the newest MIUI ROM and I still have the VM notification. I made sure I didn't have any voice mails before I flashed. The notification will not clear even with the settings selected to not show.
Initially it has the *86 number but when I change the VM settings to my number it of course then comes up in the drop down box with my number.
The same thing happens on CM ROMs.

My notification says 4 voicemails... so I'm wondering if when I rooted my phone I had voicemails.. I don't really listen to my voicemails.. i'd rather just receive a text from someone... I just wish that I had made sure to clear my box before I rooted.. not sure if this is the reason for it... but it doesn't seem like there are many users with this problem. I'm sort of anti-twitter or I would ask cyanogen myself.. this is soo annoying! Especially since I hate voice mail to begin with.. I don't read my bills much, but I think sprint charges for voicemail.. anyway I can cancel my voicemail service? Also they charge me to keep a spending limit.. I want to call sprint and ask to cancel my voicemail..

Anybody ever figure this one. Or do we just clear the message on each reboot?
Clear dalv. and cache, then change *86 to your mobile number then block 9016 from your sprint account.I added youmail and mine works perfect.I get txt and VM very quick. If the person that left you the voice mail is in your contacts it will show them as leaving the VM and you can just tap on there pic and it will play the ones they left you.
And I have no phantom notifications or anything odd.

Here. That's the only known way to get rid of it. It's a PITA but it works.
Recently my text messages have been starting with 0001/0002 and I am not sure why but it annoys me. They do it on any rom. I posted a picture. Any ideas?
Im getting the same thing but its only on some texts
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I got a few like that, but only on June 22, and only from one person. She happens to be on an iPhone, but I got other texts that day from iPhones without it.
This happen to me a couple of days ago from my wife BUT she's on Boost Mobile so I figured it was something going on with her network or something........What ROM are you guys running?
I'm on the latest CM7 7.1 running Tiamat's SBC 4.0.5 kernel.....
It must be a sprint thing. I'm using the 3d and I'm getting it too. Or maybe a Sense thing?

I can confirm. Multi posts doing the same thing.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I have been seeing the same thing when people send me long text messages, it's happened when people send from verizon/boost/cricket and t-mobile
i think it might be a GB thing, its supposed to do it when your text is so large it need to be split in to 2 or more smaller messages to be able to send, and its numbered so you know which message come first, sencond, etc. but there is a bug in the feature where the message app splits smaller texts too
Its looks to me like that's the message counter, like message 1 of 2, 2 of 2, for messages longer than 160 char.
I get this from my gf, she uses vz droid x running stock gb. Only her, no one else running gb or a different carrier. So my guess is not our phones or sprint but the others carrier.
Btw im on froyo so its not a gb thing for us.
Posted by some phone named the Epic.
Okay so I get it from my girlfriend using a feature phone on verizon so it's not a thing her phone is doing. If just started a month ago. It's not on all her texts and of she sends me a message 3 texts long it only counts her first two then the thrid is untouched. It's not a sense thing because it happens on Miui and cyanogenmod. It has to be at the carrier level.

I think its defiantly a sprint thing that just recently happened... if i get a text that is over 160 characters. Instead of breaking the text into 2 parts i get 1text around 160c and then 2 more saying 0001/0002 that each have only about 20 or so characters but its weird it splits the message into 3 parts leaving 1 alone... Sprint should defiantly change whatever they just recently added into their texting feature....
Yeah this is happening to me as well. My gf is on T-Mobile and if she sends me a long text, it breaks it up, but not in a logical manner. I get the first message of 160 char, then the next might only be a sentence, followed by another short message. So what should have been 2 messages, turns into 4 or 5 sometimes.
happening on my phone as well. Running SnS 2.2 froyo, so its not a gingerbread thing. This ONLY happened before with people using Handcent, people using stock messaging apps it never happened. It used to just break up the text without a 1/2 counter, but now it happens anytime. Specifically my gf who has an Incredible on verizon, and she is using the stock messaging app. So it seems like maybe this is something sprint is doing on their end.
It numbers the texts in order because who ever sent it sent you a text longer than 160 characters, it seems android is numbering the texts for you so you won't have to put together the puzzle figuring out what text came first.
GV
Are you using google voice? I had issues with mine.
I believe it has something to do with the message thread as well...whereas you can delete individual messages from a thread as opposed to the whole thread.
This is a Sprint network thing. They probably changed something in the SMSC (Short Message Service Center) to make it do this. This is happening to both me and my brother. CM7 on my EVO, Mik (I believe) on his EVO Shift. Doesn't matter what carrier or phone the incomming message comes from, it happens all the time.
That should answer it for everyone
Actually that is in the sense 3.0 mms app. Mine does that on my 3D LOL, try an aosp rom it won't do it and based on your screenie you're using sense 3.0/2.1

I'm telling you guys its network related. Both mine and my brothers phone have not changed at all and this started to happen the other day. I'm on aosp he is on sense. Two different devices. But what do we have in common? Location and carrier. Sprint changed the way that texts are handled.
I don't think this has been asked yet, but I get really delayed text messages. I'll be texting people and I sometimes I won't get the texts 30 - 45 minutes after they send it for whatever reason. This has been an issue for me since day one with the phone. I have had this issue on multiple ROMs, and I have had this issue and Illinois, and I'm having it again in Arizona. I know people text me back because sometimes I'll be talking to them on Facebook and they'll confront me and say;
Them: "Thanks for texting back."
Me: "What do you mean?"
Them: "I just texted you five minutes ago."
*25 minutes later,*
Me: "Hey I got your text."
Them: "Kbye."
Does anybody else get this issue? I've called Sprint about it and they tell me a Profile Update will fix it. Today was my fourth time calling and I told them to not even try and give me a Profile Update. Also, I disabled/uninstalled my Stock MMS application because I use GOSMS, but this has been happening way before that, even when I used to use the Stock MMS application with no 3rd party application installed. This is especially annoying because these last couple of days I Tether. I understand that while Tethering, I can't get phone calls or texts, but sometimes I don't get texts until 2, 3 hours after my Tethering application (Barnacle) has been killed with the pre-installed Task Manager.
Is there anyway to solve this?
This happened to me over the weekend here in MA. Sprint might be having some issues with growing pains?
Yes I have gotten some 10 mins late as well
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
If Barnacle is slightly a culprit, why not eliminate it completely? Or. Don't use it for some days, see if the delay persits, and on a positive note, after you tether, REBOOT your phone, it will allow your Cell Radio to send/retrieve pending texts that were delayed from your tether, instead of 5 hours later, they should be coming in shortly after the boot. You're welcome. =)
P.S. Please don't take offence or feel arrogance towards my comment on eliminating Barnacle, what I meant by that was to try out WifiTether. Lol.

I know you said the problem petsisted before removing the stock messaging app, but I recommend leaving it installed. It isn't uncommon for people to have problems after removing it and only using a 3rd party app.

Like arrows83 said, I had the same problem multiple times with the Stock MMS application.
This Is Bad ..
Im having the exact same problem EXCEPT:
If I send a message and wait until the "sending" under the actual message changes to the time the message was sent, it'll send.
Other than that, if I don't wait and say for instance go to my fb app, the message doesn't send until 20 - 30 mins later.
All that are having text issues, this isn't a permanent remedy, but in case of important texting where you need the texts and you have issues, just hold down the power, deactivite data, and let your messages send/receive via 1x. It'll go through smoothly.

It seems like whenever I flash a sense rom and start texting, the outgoing messages are okay but the recieved messages are always an 2-3 hours behind. Is this just me or is there a fix for this?

I have this issue EVERYTIME I receive a text while roaming. Never fails.
I have this problem with all Sense ROMs I have flashed, and I am a flashaholic. To get around this, I have just installed Go SMS Pro, which is better than the stock messaging app anyway. Any third-party SMS app should have the option to fix this as well.
I've had this problem on a couple occasions from what it sounds like... It does not sound like an app problem it sounds more like a service problem... When I called sprint to inform them of the issue they sent "refreshes" to my phone and it cleared up the problem almost instantly

Checkyour settings and make sure to enable data while roaming. I think most roms have it disabled by default.
it's some sort of tower issue. It happens to me occassionally when I travel around. Cricket is my provider but it uses Sprint towers I beleive.
I use a tiny free app from the market called SMS Time Fix when I see it happen.
I am a noob to posting but not new to reading this forum nor rooting.
I have an EVO 4G and just flashed AOKP build 33 with GAPPS 3-17.
I have Google Voice installed and have used it with no problems for almost a year now.
Just yesterday when I flashed AOKP build 33 my phone quit receiving text messages. I still receive them on my Google Voice account on my phone and on the computer.
GV is set to have my text messages go through my text client and my text client is set to the default messaging app.
I have tried flashing to recovery nandroids of previous Roms and states of Roms and that did not solve my problem.
I didn't see anyone at the AOKP thread who has had the same problem.
What can I do? Please help.
*apologies for posting this if there is a better place for it to go but after making it through all of the results on my searches about this with no solution I am extremely frustrated and need a solution.
Have you tried uninstalling GV to see if that solves the problem? My phone did the same thing for a while with google voice and I never understood why, but uninstalling GV took care of my issues. You will probably get the text messages a few hours to a few days late, or at least that is what happened to me

So do I need to do more than just uninstall and re-install the app? i.e. the whole thing with un-linking my number and voicemail and everything?
If you uninstall it, I def would suggest doing the full uninstall procedure,..the unlinking, etc.

I disabled my GV account and un-linked it from my number, restarted and still no incoming texts. Any other ideas?
Make sure somehow you have the latest radios and such maybe? Have someone text you again now that its all undone and see if the new message will go through. Like I said, even after disabling GV, it took 3 days for the lost texts to come through.

I've had someone texting me throughout the process to no avail. I am working on updating the profile and the PRI/PRL but have to load a sense ROM. Is that the same as the radios? Haven't really dealt with radios before.
Any towers being worked on in your area? I've had no incoming texts for 4 weeks now, due to a tower upgrade (LTE). The only way I could get a text was to make a phone call (typically called my voicemail when I wanted to check for texts). Supposedly this is done as of today...
Worth it for the LTE though!

Thanks guys. I ended up just flashing a MikG ROM and it corrected what ever was wrong. Then flashed my AOKP ROM and we are back up and running. Still have no idea what it was.
I'm having same issues, ive been switching back and forth between ROMS to see if i can find one that works. I removed Google voice from my phone, and deactivated it online to see if that fix it. but not working still.
I still only get texts when i make a phone call.
Mik G worked for me as well
Those who are having the problem, are you restoring a backup of GV with data?
Remember, especially with Google apps, there are a lot of updated features for ICS and backups from Gingerbread will not work efficiently. It is best to start from scratch with these apps, especially seeing that Google voice pull most of its data from the cloud... no real need to restore data with it.
