I don't think this has been asked yet, but I get really delayed text messages. I'll be texting people and I sometimes I won't get the texts 30 - 45 minutes after they send it for whatever reason. This has been an issue for me since day one with the phone. I have had this issue on multiple ROMs, and I have had this issue and Illinois, and I'm having it again in Arizona. I know people text me back because sometimes I'll be talking to them on Facebook and they'll confront me and say;
Them: "Thanks for texting back."
Me: "What do you mean?"
Them: "I just texted you five minutes ago."
*25 minutes later,*
Me: "Hey I got your text."
Them: "Kbye."
Does anybody else get this issue? I've called Sprint about it and they tell me a Profile Update will fix it. Today was my fourth time calling and I told them to not even try and give me a Profile Update. Also, I disabled/uninstalled my Stock MMS application because I use GOSMS, but this has been happening way before that, even when I used to use the Stock MMS application with no 3rd party application installed. This is especially annoying because these last couple of days I Tether. I understand that while Tethering, I can't get phone calls or texts, but sometimes I don't get texts until 2, 3 hours after my Tethering application (Barnacle) has been killed with the pre-installed Task Manager.
Is there anyway to solve this?
This happened to me over the weekend here in MA. Sprint might be having some issues with growing pains?
Yes I have gotten some 10 mins late as well
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
If Barnacle is slightly a culprit, why not eliminate it completely? Or. Don't use it for some days, see if the delay persits, and on a positive note, after you tether, REBOOT your phone, it will allow your Cell Radio to send/retrieve pending texts that were delayed from your tether, instead of 5 hours later, they should be coming in shortly after the boot. You're welcome. =)
P.S. Please don't take offence or feel arrogance towards my comment on eliminating Barnacle, what I meant by that was to try out WifiTether. Lol.

I know you said the problem petsisted before removing the stock messaging app, but I recommend leaving it installed. It isn't uncommon for people to have problems after removing it and only using a 3rd party app.

Like arrows83 said, I had the same problem multiple times with the Stock MMS application.
This Is Bad ..
Im having the exact same problem EXCEPT:
If I send a message and wait until the "sending" under the actual message changes to the time the message was sent, it'll send.
Other than that, if I don't wait and say for instance go to my fb app, the message doesn't send until 20 - 30 mins later.
All that are having text issues, this isn't a permanent remedy, but in case of important texting where you need the texts and you have issues, just hold down the power, deactivite data, and let your messages send/receive via 1x. It'll go through smoothly.

Do you guys have issues when sending txt messages? My phone almost everyday when I try to send a txt message i'll wont finish sending, it keeps saying "sending" and it wont deliver. I have to delete the message and restart my phone....
This is really annoying....
Is there a fix for this?
Are you doing level 2 ram clears to end applications? If so this has been known to play hell with SMS/MMS.
if you DID do a level 2 ram clear... just reboot your phone and try again
What's a "level 2" ram clear?
BTW, I'm in NYC area, and Sprint has been having major issues here over the past week or 2. Almost everyone I know on Sprint is experiencing dropped calls, failed messages and other connection problems. Supposedly a known issue.

I did have this problem on the stock Epic. Do not ask me why but if I turned the Data Network Mode off it would send all messages. I would then turn it back on and have no problems for a few days and then it would pick up again. It was almost like the phone just needed a change of routine. This hasn't happened recently, but was very annoying.

Stock SMS app?
Do you experience this issue using the stock SMS app or a different one?
If using stock app, have you tried a different one like ChompSMS or Handcent?
Yes, I do level 2 ram clear very often actually, so this might be the problem ahn?
I use the stock one, I've tried and handcent once and had the same issue with it....
Thanks for the feedback guys....
Don't clear the Ram (on any level) unless your phone stops working properly.
The Android OS manages memory better on it's own than you will ever be able to and it won't lead to issues like messages not sending.
So heres the deal.

Sprint has a new online system where you can disable texts, either ingoing, outgoing, or both. Data and voice can be disabled as well, all on whatever line you choose.

Definitely a network issue
All of my phones (rooted/not rooted) are having texting and data issues right now
I've also been having numerous issues with texts not being sent out. About 2 in 10 will actually be sent. Receiving seems to be okay, but then again who knows. I've called Sprint and they have had me do the standard things, such as update profile, prl, and pull the battery. I did recently root, by using the kernel with CWM, flashing su, then going back to the stock kernel. I also disabled Sprint Integration with Google Voice and that seemed to help a lot, but I'm not sure if that was the cause.
I'm having this issue too. Sometimes it also says message not sent, but the other person replies, so I'm assuming they get sent anyways.
Sometimes when I text I get an error saying message not sent.and when I resend it.the person on the other end says they received the same message twice.I'll either press resend or I press the red error button that pops up next to message.seems like pressing the red error symbol next to message may only send once after error.

Same thing started happening to me today. Very perplexing.
I've been having this issue and it's easily the biggest flaw I've had on a device in years. I have random messages that won't be sent... well at least until some random day and time when they all go through at once. People don't tend to be very happy to receiving backlogged texts at 2 in the morning.
been getting this problem from time to time, reboot my phone and texts seem to go back out for a while at least.

Sorry to get off topic, but did no one else read that?! 12000 texts per month? 400 per day? If you sleep 8 hours you are sending a text 25 per hour, nearly one every other minute.
Slow down man, smell the roses.
I just sat next to a friend and sent 10 messages to him, each with a number 1-10. Only numbers 5, 6, 8, and 10 went through. That's a 40% success rate. Unacceptable.
I was having a problem with receiving texts and calls while in sleep, I followed this and after installing zedomaxs stock kernal
maybe this will work for you guys

EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM!
THIS IS KILLING ME!
2 days now.
all was fine, on calkulin 2.0.1a rom, and ek02 modem.. noticed people were not receiving my SMS, only about 10-15%... my MMS would send no problem.
i also have google integration.
i wiped 4 times, flashed fresh.. no go.. updated prl/profile.. no go.. swapped modems and kernels... no go.. HELP ME!!
i send myself texts, i get about 15% only..
going to try ##72786# thing now, just nandroid first. HOPEFULLY WORKS!
ANYONE??
UPDATE:
after dealing with this for 12 hours. literally trying everything.. (roms, modems, wipe, wipe, sprint tech, EVERYTHING), i think i may have come to the issue.
i unported my phone # from google voice back to my regular sprint #. my sms and mms now work perfectly. i still receive calls and sms to my phone, but when i call out or send text it shows my sprint # and not my google #..
i am waiting 15 minutes to try to re-port my phone # back to my google # to see if maybe it will start working again..

Do you have Go SMS installed? If so, it's that app. Not quite sure just WHY it does it, but nothing to worry about.
I had the same problem with Go SMS and being rooted.
There is a way to shut it off it is buried in the settings and something about I believe it was in receive settings and I unchecked "Disable other message notification" I believe that is what stopped it for me.
You got voice mail. It's stuff that is handled in the back ground by android...turned off block other sms pop up s. Got 8 vm. I've known it for a while almost forgot. The feature is lane in go sms cause it doesn't say point blank what happened.

It is not a GoSMS problem. I have gotten them on stock messaging app. I just block that # in GoSMS and problem solved. I'm sure Handcent has the same feature to block #'s.

It does, I just wanted to point out its not a GoSMS thing only, or a 3rd party SMS app for that matter.

Correct, think of it as the 3pty app's server pinging the app. It happens all the time, but if the app was working correctly we would never see these unknown text messages being received by the phone.

He said it's NOT a 3rd party messaging app issue. I know this to be a fact and wish people would stop claiming otherwise without knowing for sure. People without any 3rd party messaging app installed get these messages = Go SMS theory broken.
I'll have to agree Cordell12, I'm back to Rouges stock w/ CWM kernel and have yet to receive another one of these messages - also I haven't had a single LoS. When I used other kernels that suffered Los I would get these messages. Correlation? Seems to be.
I may be wrong but if this is the case I'm wondering why I have this issue on complete stock phone. I'm using handcent.

dude ive used all the different kernels, but always used the stock app. never recived any messages from 8737. However my coworker has an unrooted et4g with go sms pro installed and she gets tons of these messages. She took it to a sprint repair center, and even though most of them are complete retards, she actually found a knowedlgeable tech that immediately told her to uninstall go sms pro. since she has done that, her messages have stopped. thats no coincidence
This most definitely IS caused by having a third party app monitor your texts or phone calls. People who screw up the install of Google Voice also have this problem.
Sprint uses a "silent" text message from a certain number to alert your phone that you have a voice mail message. The STOCK app interprets this text message and passes it on to VVM, which then reaches out to get the relevent data and the actual message.
When you install a third party application, such as GO SMS or Handscent, that asks if you want to disable the stock messenger, NEVER do this. This is what breaks your voicemail and you start getting those texts from 4 digit numbers.
Instead, simply go into the settings of your STOCK app, and tell it not to display notifications. Problem solved.
If you haven't installed a 3rd party messenger app and you start getting those texts, your app is screwed up. Maybe you're using a ROM that pulled the messenger APK form a non Sprint phone, or whatever... Receiving those messages means your stock app is turned off somehow.
Load the stock voicemail app and let it provision. Reinstall go SMS...fixed.

So we've resolved nothing then...
We still have people with no 3rd party messaging app getting these messages. So what's the common factor in all of them, anything? Google Voice? Sure, I'll give room for that to be the cause since it's "3rd party" in the sense that it didn't come installed natively. However, I switch kernels and get these messages. I switch back to a stock kernel and the messages stop along with Los? Without me touching GV at either point how is this explained by a 3rd party messaging app?
So could it be both the kernel/LoS or a 3rd party app that causes it? Or are we still going to stay glued to the app theory? Not trying to be a **** about this, sorry if it comes off that way but this is just annoying and everyone holding on to one theory that can be proven wrong isn't helping at all.
no arguments with you bruh, i understand what your saying. I cant really say anything about the people on stock. i think would have to be caused by google voice or some type of program that interferes with the silent message used by the visual voicemail system. thats what the 8737 message is for, its a silent message
LoS
No,it really is the LoS notification. I've observed this on my phone and every time my radio reboots or the phone restarts because of the LoS, i get the notification.

Nope. I only began getting these messages after installing GoSms. I have never experienced los on this device. Blocked the number and still using GoSms.
If you get this when you change kernels etc. then reprovision voicemail... ive had that intermittently... and i did try the annoying gvoice integration and could not get rid of it until i disabled gvoice in its own setting, via a desktop browser, then reprovisioned stock vmail w the dialer code (see help in stock voicemail). as far as gosms... idunno why they decided to add the force disable stock setting... was it really that hard to disable stock notifications like they tell you to upon install? but i wouldnt doubt gvoice has something to do with it if you have tried it... PITA to get rid of... and if sprint wont comp me for google handling vm and sms then ill stick to what i pay for. plus gvoice is white... did they make it for the iphone?
I started getting this on my SGSIII with the JB update and being rooted..never happened before

I have this issue EVERYTIME I receive a text while roaming. Never fails.
I have this problem with all Sense ROMs I have flashed, and I am a flashaholic. To get around this, I have just installed Go SMS Pro, which is better than the stock messaging app anyway. Any third-party SMS app should have the option to fix this as well.
I've had this problem on a couple occasions from what it sounds like... It does not sound like an app problem it sounds more like a service problem... When I called sprint to inform them of the issue they sent "refreshes" to my phone and it cleared up the problem almost instantly

Checkyour settings and make sure to enable data while roaming. I think most roms have it disabled by default.
it's some sort of tower issue. It happens to me occassionally when I travel around. Cricket is my provider but it uses Sprint towers I beleive.
I use a tiny free app from the market called SMS Time Fix when I see it happen.
I've noticed an issue on my Galaxy Nexus (Stock Rooted 4.0.4, VZW) where randomly a text message will disappear.
I don't have any idea what is causing it and its so sporadic, it happens maybe once every 1,000 texts.
The only way I know I'm even missing a text is if I see it appear in the notification bar but not be there when I go into the messaging app (Using stock messaging) or, because I have mightytext installed, I'll see the message forwarded to my browser but I'll notice its gone from my phone.
I was able to pull a logcat after it happened most recently, so if someone thinks they would be able to decipher some information from it, let me know.
I'm posting because I'm wondering if I'm the only one seeing this issue or if others are in the same boat.
Thanks in advance and let me know if anyone would like some more info...I've been trying to nail this thing down for months now.
You're welcome to put it up on pastebin or something and post it, but I would first eliminate MightyText as the first possible problem. Uninstall it and see if it still happens.
I had the same problem when still on 4.0.2 stock, unrooted. Only ever used the stock messaging app. It happened very sporadic, with the same symptoms you described.
Messages popped up in notification bar but could be nowhere to be found in messages app.
Since upgrading to 4.0.4 it never happened again, or at least I didn't notice.
As you are on 4.0.4 already, that's probably not comforting.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Yeah, it happens so infrequently that I'm not surprised you haven't noticed it since updating, but nice to know someone else has the same issue.
Do you have mighytext installed or can we rule that out as a culprit?
Do you have any SMS Backup applications installed?
If not, I recommend the "SMS Backup +" by Jan Berkel.
Works amazing on my ICS.
Does backups of SMS, MMS and Call Logs (if you want.)
Yes, I do have that installed, but thats not really relevant to the issue I described here.
Thanks.

Sorry - I realized I never finished my train of thought. Got "distracted" as someone walked into my office.
To continue, when your texts disappear from your phone, do they also disappear from your Gmail SMS label?
As per every 1000 texts - I assume you get a TON of texts per day?
I ask - because my cousin who is a promoter also gets/sends 1000's of text messages a week, and he made a funny comment yesterday about how some of his incoming texts "vanished."
He doesn't have SMS Backup+, so I couldn't verify it for him at the time. I'm wondering if you and him have the same problems?
Regards,
var
I also have SMS Backup + installed, but not Mighty text. When a disappearing text arrived, it never even had a time to kick in, even though I'm on wifi and it's said to backup upon arrival. The text is just gone, right after the notification vanishes.
But hard to investigate as it happens really very sporadic... And yup, I get hundreds of messages each day in a developing country, where sometimes also sms are not delivered, so everybody knows and it's not that big of a problem.
