I want to get my wife an epic touch as she has an Evo. My idea is to add a third line to our account and get her the touch and then cancel her line with the Evo and pay the 130 dollar etf. This would be cheaper than paying for the phone outright. Would this work? Thanks guys.

It depends on how many more months ull be on contract
Plus ull get a new number which is a pain
I suggest frezzing ur number for 3 months anf then cut the line and etf will go down

She still has like 10 months left in Contract. I called them and they said the etf was 130 for that line. I don't mind paying that. I just want to make sure that I will be able to cancel her line with the Evo. Don't want to be stuck with three lines. Thanks

I did that with my USB internet card. $70 a month and wouldn't give me an Airrave. I even got them to waive ETF! Of course I got my ET4G at new 2 year price and can update Epic line when SGS3 comes out if its sooo great

Yeah it worked. Upgraded to a third line and left the store and canceled the other line. Hell yeah,

Its no problem man. If freezing your account wont lower your etf at all then it would be cheaper to just cancel for $180.00. I'm paying my etf of 130.00. So much cheaper than buying the phone outright.

get on chat when you get the bill and tell them "I have never paid for an activation fee before why am I being charged now?"...boom, $36 gone.
I did, with 1 line, what you just did and without ETF my bill jumped from $91 to $297...but after chatting with them and *****ing I got it knocked down to $178.
Sprint CS really is fantastic. I just don't understand how someone could have a terrible CSR...the worst I ever had was one lady being snippy but giving me what I wanted anyway....I have never had a bad experience (in the past few years). Though pre-5 years ago is a whole different story.

I have had the fee waived every year but was told that they are not able to do that anymore. Asked for a supervisor who was very rude when asked why.
Ask to talk to retention and they can credit some if not all of the fee. The retention group have always been polite and willing to do what they can.
Sprint needs the money now, they have to pay back for the iphone.
I Had settled for the the $180 but after reading ur posts .i called to see if they will give me a ill discount after having that line for 6 yrs w sprint and the rep said I'll give u $80 credit if u let me renew ur contract on one of the lines?i said yes he renewed on a line that I had upgraded 3 months ago so no biggie $100 etf..thanks guys
Thank u very much. I'll do that Monday and let u know what happens

Sprint has indeed changed their policy on waiving fees. You may get some credits but it will be a bit tougher than before.
And I agree, it is to pay for the iPhone.

Is this a Sprint thing?
I just called two corporate stores and they said that a new customer can't buy the phone for full retail price without a 2 year contract.
In other words, you must sign a two years contract if you are a new customer.
Can anyone here confirm this?

Then goto the Samsung Epic 4G Touch order page and you can get it at full price.

Not sure if that is the correct answer, there is an Sprint employee in the Evo 3d forum that said yes.

Thanks all for the replies. What is the ETF on this phone ? It might end up costing the same as full retail price.

I AM a Sprint employee. I deal with it every single day. Even if someone buys a phone off Ebay, some guy off the street, or buys it in the store, there is going to be a two year agreement. The ETF is going to be 350 for the first six months and starts to decrease from there. If you are going to get one, you may as well get the discounted price.

Funny thing is, when the OG EVO came out, i bought from craigslist and was able to activate it on a month to month plan as a new customer while i was not able to get the same if would buy it at the Sprint store. but i think i got lucky that time and that Sprint policy is really to have a 2 year agreement regardless of the amount you buy the phone at.
The questions is what is the ETF. it might come out the same if i buy it for $199 and pay an ETF when i want out. i never keep a phone more than a few months and i have zero carrier loyalty. Sprint is the only carrier that does not allow month to month contracts it seems.
hold on hold on ... lol
you are wanting to buy a phone at full price then activate as a new customer without a contract??? on month to month? dont know about that one... i totally misread your post and thought you were already a customer and thought this guy was really giving you bad advice to be a sprint employee but now that i reread your post his answer sounds about right... sorry dude
Actually...they are both right. There is a new thing called business freedom. Which is where if you open a new business account with a federal tax ID, you can get this new plan that is a no contract commitment deal. If you interested in more information PM me so we can further discuss this.
Just come tome from now on with all your Sprint needs
Yeah, but you have to have a business and it is more expensive every month since there is no contract. Unless you actually have a business with seasonal employees I really wouldn't recommend it. If you get a new Tax ID just for this, you are GOING to have a deposit. You could run a blended credit but that might only knock it down fifty bucks. Sprint may also want proof that it is a real business so they may need bank statements with the business name, so you have to have a few months worth of that. Would you really want to go through all that just to pay more every month anyway? The average consumer would do best just to sign the contract.

You might be able to find a friend who wants out of their contract and are near the end of it. Well, right now they can get out for free...
In all seriousness. I wouldn't mind helping someone out if I ever lost one of my members in my family plan. Charge them something like 30 dollars +10 dollar for smart phones and I wouldn't hold you to a 2 year contract if you brought your own phone to use.
That's actually a very good idea. If you pay full price you don't have to sign a contract if you put the phone on an existing line. Maybe you could find someone who wants to switch to your current provider from Sprint and you could just take over each other's lines.

I only have $75 off from Sprint to upgrade, so what is the cheapest method into getting the ET4G? Many websites unfortunately only take account the upgrade price if you're 2 years in, but most don't give you an option if you're between 1 and 2 years between contracts.

Cheapest way is through Sprint. Their retail price is $499 for the phone at Sprint stores. That's quite a bit cheaper than through other resellers.
Depending on what your coming from, you may be able to sell your old phone on ebay or craigslist to recoup some of the cost.
The other option is to wait. I have no doubts that this phone, while impressive right now, will be outclassed in a few months. By the time you can cash in your full discounted upgrade, there will be something bigger and badder... or the E4GT will be much cheaper.
Keep in mind, you'll have to go another two years if you cash in that $75. Not worth it in my opinion... it's just a phone.
$75 is NOT worth re-upping your contract for 2 years. I went ahead and paid pull price for the phone and I will keep my full upgrade for next spring when the hopefully the LTE phones are out
Best Buy gave the phone for$399.99 and I also was only qualified for a $75 discount. That and the gave me $97 bucks for my old Epic thus I got this bad boy for about $300 and change.

What i did was early terminate for $80 and started a new contract and got the phone for $199 plus acctivation. If you already got the phone wih only a 75 discount have ur accout reversed and do the early termination thing
p.s. If u do the account reversal you will need an old sprint phone to temperarily put ur number back on or they will charge u a restocking fee of 35 dollars

I was thinking of early terminating too. I am 1 year into my contract so it would be $100 for the ETF. Start a new contract and get the phone for $100 at Wal-Mart plus tax and $36 activation fee. The only thing is I want to keep my number so I would have to port it over maybe a prepaid phone or Google voice and then port it back to Sprint?

I did this exactly and traded in an Evo which they gave me an 87 credit for. I know I could of got more but it was too easy this way, totally off set the ETA. Phone number change for me wasn't a problem as I give out my Google voice number. I asked the guy at the store if he would just give me the full upgrade price instead of doing this but he said no. It was easy enough.
I was in the same situation. Got one from sprint, did not use it and sent it back because I realize that I could get a brand new one from eBay for cheaper and not use my $75 upgrade and be eligible for the next s3.
Maybe I might wait until after October 11 and see if Samsung and Google will announce the new Galaxy Nexus for Sprint hopefully. If it does come to Sprint I may just ETF and port my number out to a cheap prepaid phone and open a new contract.
Whats your current phone now? I personally think its worth it if you can sell your current phone for a decent amount and use it towards the 4g touch on eBay.
The best way is the Best Buy method. I sold my Evo and a Zune HD straight to Best Buy for about $210...I ended up paying $14 for mine (I had a full upgrade though).
If you've got some other old electronics you never use, I suggest going that route, Best Buy pays out pretty well.
Also, they won't be announcing the Nexus S in October. It'll be the iPhone 5 and MAYBE switching to LTE. IF we get the Nexus S, it won't be til later on.
I sold my Epic on Facebook in 20 minutes for $150, then used the $75 discount. I put down another $75 and billed the rest to my account. Ill have a huge bill next month, but I'm OK with that. But that's really the cheapest route.

I had the same problem and I was willing to just buy the Epic Touch full price without renewing my contract BUT I decided it was worth a shot calling customer service to see what they could do for me.
I got:
$100 account credit
$75 renewal
$75+ phone buyback (I had a bunch of old phones)
Which left me at less than $249 out of pocket.
Then I transfered my OG Epic to my wife, and she ended up getting a brand new OG Epic because the Sprint store couldn't figure out how to swap things over to her correctly and I wasn't about to tell them how
I'm happy with it because we both have brand new phones and like I said before I was ready to just buy it full price... and I still have a full upgrade next spring...

I see, yeah the 11th is coming up pretty soon anyways. I've noticed that the epic 4g touch prices have dropped quit a bit since I bought mine on eBay. I believe the going rate now is close to $450-60 shipped, I paid $480 for mine. Hopefully I can see my Evo for a decent amount. If you opt out for the new Nexus the price might be a bit lower too for the epic 4g touch.
this may be a little of topic but i have question. i just recently purchased a Nexus s 4g for my sister (fifth teens coming up) i have my main line with my ET4G a second one with a EVO and now i want a third one for the nexus . for some reason sprint is making me sign ANOTHER 2 year contract even though im providing the handset myself. iv googled it and it seems like its a hit or miss sort of thing. anybody ever been in this situation? is there a way to get around having to sign a 2 year contract since i am not going to get another handset at a discounted price? any help much appreciated.
if you provide the equipment you do NOT have to sign a 2 yr.
If they try to make you then tell them they are incorrect. The 2 year contract is to gain the discount to purchase the phone.

Not if you're adding a new line. Getting another phone on an existing line wont affect your contract if you pay full price for it, or you already owned it. But if you're adding a line, you have to sign a contract for that new line.

only in California. but everywhere else, yes, you have to sign the 2 year service agreement. but, you still have eligibility from that day forward, so you can get a phone at a discounted rate. think of it like this: when you add a new discount to your account (employer/organization discount), you sign a new contract without affect eligibility. same goes for $50-100 service credits offered to customers who are 2-4 months from contract end but are not interested in a new phone. eligibility and contract terms are actually 2 separate time-lines. the only reason you sign the contract for a new phone is to guarantee sprint you're going to stay with them, in turn subsidizing the heavy discounting they gave you. (i work in a sprint store )
Even if you sign a contract will there be a ETF if you quit? I thought your etf decreases over time as sprint makes their money back from the subsidy. If they don't have to subsidize you're phone what does that mean? Anyone here know the answer?

Etf still applies. That's just part of the terms, sprint wants you to stay with em. It is prorated though. For feature phones, it goes down by $10/month after 5 months til a minimum of $50. Smartphones prorate by $20/month after 5 months until thy reach $100
This message will self-destruct in 30 seconds.
The etf should be only 200 even though it is an advanced device, since you aren't receiving a discount on an advanced device. If you have a discount on your line the etf starts at 200 anyway.
There have been reports of people activating the evo view tablet month to month with a few callbacks to customer care. Just a matter of getting the right person on the phone. In the store I don't think the software allows us to bypass it.

So I bought my phone a little over a month ago. In the process I specifically asked the T-Mobile rep. what hidden charges or connection fees I'd be hit with. Naturally she responded "None". I thought "O.k. $100 a month for unlimited everything isn't too bad at all.", seeing as where I live I have no problems with service whatsoever. Then my first bill just came in the other day............and I'm still in shock. It was a grand total of $296 and some change. I thought, "What in the hell am I paying for again?" I'm damn near willing to take the bad mark on my credit just because I'd feel like I was telling T-Mobile to shove it up their ass, but really with the breach of contract, I'd be the one getting screwed without any lube. Can anyone ,on a serious note, possibly give me a little insight as to what the heck that kind of money is supposed to be going to when it was agreed upon as to be $100 a month? I wasn't charged a deposit or anything of that sort and the minutes and text are unlimited and the monthly unlimited plan for data services is 200GB which I never even came close to. It's crazy! When T-Mobile is directly asked about this you get different answers from just about everyone you speak with it seems like. Maybe I'm just still amazed by the 200% increase and not hearing what I wanna hear so it all just sounds like different answers from everyone. Hell I don't know! All I can say is "LIARS! They're all LIARS!" Stick with pre-paid if it's not too late for you yet!
I suggest that you look at the details of the bill and see each thing that they charged you for. When I switched over to TMO from Sprint they told me that they essentially charge you for two months the first month so you are always a month ahead in your bill. I guess that means when you leave you have a month extra.
Sent from my GS3 via TapaTalk 2
Can't you see what's exactly being charged? There should be itemized charges on the bill.
Is it possible that the extra $ 200 is for the phone itself? Or maybe a migration fee if you recently change your plan while you still in contract?
If you can read. Look at your bill
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
Is there a "migration charge"?
When I got my first bill there was an activation charge even though the web page had said "limited time special, activation fee waived $0.00"
I called them up and told them waived means not charging in the first place and it does not mean "refund" three months later. The rep in the phone even said "I see how that could be misleading" I said either take that off my bill or cancel my contract because I don't want to be a customer of a company that's starting off our relationship with deception. The reversed the charge, but I still think they're scum for playing fast-and-loose with the meanings of words like that.
Other than that, I love my phone and coverage has been great, unlike 8 years ago when they had a tower down for more than a year....

Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Post it up here because it is very likely the only way you have a first bill that high is if there is a deposit they didnt tell you about.
Value plan with eip
69.99 for plan with unlim 4g
7.99 for insurance
20.00 for eip
Tax & fees is roughly $10
107$ total
Activation fee is $35.and is taxed ro roughly $39
So 146$ for first month
Now... first bill will be a little higher than that 146 because of prorated charges becauase your first bill is for more than one month of service. BUT there is no way prorated charges are an additional $150.
Show a copy of the bill with your sensitive info blocked out so we cant see it. Also.. what day did you activate
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
For the first month of two you're likely to run into some additional charges...
Activation fee, insurance, etc..
I would definitely look at the bill.
If you're still unsure, call up customer service and ask them to explain what each individual charge this first month.

This is my current setup, but I'm using an ATT sim. Better coverage for me in my area than TMO. I'll take paying $45/mo instead of $100
I just got this charge too. They said 100 $ for my bill. It came in and i have a 265 $ and its 150 $ for texting between sept.11-28. I got my phone on the 28th. How the hell are they gonna roll back my original plan when ive had unlimited for over 4 years. And im going to the actual guy that sold me the phone on monday.

Response from T-Mobile is.....
O.k., sorry for just now getting back to everyone. The bill actually states that $200 of these charges are for previous charges. What previous charges? This is a brand new account. T-Mobile told me finally that it's a deposit fee. Aren't deposits charged beforea service of any sort provided? Seriously?! I already got screwed out of an extra $70 for the T-Mobile pre-paid plan I had paid a day earlier because they wouldn't switch it over to the new contract. Also, everyone needs to pay close attention to the apps you download. I realize it's not much now but it could have been. I was charged an extra .20 cents for an app sending an international text message without permission from me. I'm in the wrong business is all I've gotta say!
Yeah, there's 2 sections. My regular bill and a "previous charges" section. Previous to what? This is my first bill.
Post the bill.. And if you had already paid for a month of service why not wait a month to sign a contract.. I don't get it.
I was just like you when this happened to me. I was in Flex Pay plan from T-Mobile for 2 years before making the switch to the Value Plan.
My bill is $131 which includes warranty and insurance plus $20 and $15 down payment for the phones plus taxes which would come to a total of $170 for two lines. Luckily they gave me a $276 in-store credit for making the switch and being a loyal customer who never missed a single payment while being with them. My first bill came out to be $256 but didn't have to pay it due to the credit but I still demanded answers and the in-store rep said they were fees that will always come in the first bill (activation fees + paying a month ahead, etc). I just payed my second bill in which I only payed $150.

Post your bill or call 611. Ur getting frustrated and no one in here can help solve your problem. We can see your account.
I love this thing!
My advice is to always ask the reps questions and call them as soon as you can see your bill online or in the mailed bill. Youre wasting time posting here because we cant change anything on your bill.

Check your text charges....they tried to pin me up for over $300 when I switched plans and turned out they charged me $.20 for every text during the transition cycle. Took 3 days of calling before I went into a store and showed them the error. They fixed it on the spot.

Since Tmobile has discontinued selling devices at subsidized prices anymore, let's say, if one were to buy Note 3 from Wirefly or Staples for $299 with a new line on a classic plan (they are still allowing that), and cancel the service after 14 days and pay the ETF of $200 plus the activation $35 (which can be waived) and first month's service fees $80 (minimum), then the total comes to $579 or $614. Has anyone tried this? Will Tmobile blacklist imei once you cancel the contract?

No reason to blacklist if u paid the money

So, who's going to be the dare devil?
I think y'all are gonna be disappointed whoever tries. Carriers got themselves covered on this. Best thing is tmobile's monthly plan.

I would do this myself but I'm out of the country on vacation. But someone should just call tmo and just ask that. But if you early term and pay etf they can't blacklist your phone. But there is still the thought if you do early terminate you may have to pay out the phone possibly. Idk.
A few years back when I worked for one of the major carriers, if you did not return the phone when you canceled within the grace period then you would have to pay the full price of the phone and if you didn't then they would send the bill to collections. This phone is awesome but not worth the harassment of debt collectors and getting your credit score screwed.
I know on amazon you had to keep the service for 6 months. If you didn't you had to return the phone or pay the full price.

I read up on all TM stipulations about 2 weeks before the note 3 came out. I'm not sure about buying the phone on amazon but if you buy it though TM, you are basically refinancing the phone. You're paying a little more each month (I think for me it's like 15 it varies depending on how much you put down), plus you get the jump program included in your insurence. Also if you cancel, you will have to pay off the remaining balance on the phone's "loan".
OP this is exactly how I got both my note 2. Tmo had just stopped the classic plan. Walmart still offered it though. I signed up then the very next day switched to a value plan, paid the 200 fee ( on one of them because I sweet talked the Rep and got the other waived) and was set. I got me and the wife note 2s for 600 bucks total (this is when they were still the hot phone)

Thanks for that info!
Too late, both, Wirefly and Staples, have now taken down the classic plans and are showing the full price for Note 3 Oh well, you snooze, you definitely lose! I will wait for some time b4 the price comes down a little...
