Really!? I'm using almost half of my 32gb. Of course, I do maintain a large quantity of music on my sd card.

Pandora is fine for me so I don't have music loaded on my phone. I used to download a lot of music in the past but I'm just lazy now...

I'm using this exact card in my A500 now -- works flawlessly. It's a little slow to copy large video files over to it, but that's expected for a class 4 card. Read time is perfectly fine for playback of my 720p movies, music, etc.

It's the standard one that came with the Desire, class 2. The video sometimes stutters when playing back on my Desire and i am wondering if it's to do with the class of SD card.
Nice animals indeed!
Do you have the original 3GP vid file you can upload somewhere?
Colours seem better than Eclair at 0 saturation. You needed +1 to get such colours with it.
There's a few YouTube issues on the HTC 2.2 OTA release mentioned by some, one being the vids pausing/stuttering at times but I haven't otherwise seen vids behaving as such through the SD. I play at least 1-3 hour vids daily on this phone albeit only a few at 8Mbps like the 720p recordings.

That vid is quite excellent how it turned out. The source vid looks far better than that YouTube vid and you have area's of 50-83 FPS on there. The colours are very good.
Also, your vid is completely unplayable on my phone (due to the SD card) with endless stalls and stuttering. No such problem from the laptop or PC.

Thanks, I'm glad its not just me having playback issues from the SD Card. Thinking of going for a class 4 or possibly class 6 card to see if that improves performance. I wonder if part of the frame rate issues are down to the class of SD Card used.

[Q] SD class X for heavy 720p recording?

Going on a long long trip and only have room for my Dinc.... Will a class 4 card get the job done or do I need to get a class 6?
Thanx!
That really just matters when copying/writing the initial file and on read times.
For video saving or video playback, it might save you and extra few seconds during the save or load times, but it shouldn't matter at all.
I have a 16GB class 2 card, ran the SD card speed test app, and it came out as a class 4 card.
I notice perfectly fine speeds on my card. I never seem to think to myself, "this thing is damn slow." If you do something like sync 500+ songs to the card at one time, sure it may take a little while to initially find them, but after that there's no wait.
Hope that helps.

I just made a post about class and brand in the accessories section. Take a quick look at that. But class shouldn't really save much time unless you are recording really long videos, the most it will save you is maybe 2 seconds TOPS after finishing video recording. My sandisk 16GB class 2 saved videos in 2.5 seconds or less.
ok, thanks for that info. i was under the impression that the write speed of the card was a limiting factor in bitrate/framerate. Therefore I would get better video quality using a faster SD card. I have seen posts where peeps complain about jerky video @ 720p and the class 2 card is most always the culprit.

Well considering it isn't attempting to write the video as it is recording, class does not apply to this. Framerate/bitrate is controlled by the recording software and the camera itself. SD card just stores the finished product.
More for less, or same for more?
Rather than pony up the extra benjamins for a higher class card, why not get the/a bigger 32 Gb class 2 card, like the one from Verizon?

Well it depends if someone needs faster transfer rates or higher capacity, as well as cost difference. 32gb cards are going for 75 to 90 bucks still being that they are still relatively new, while a 16gb class 10 from kingston is about the same price, maybe even cheaper with transfer rates at least 3 times faster than any class 2. All in preference.
So as far as media playback goes, will I notice much of a difference on class 4 vs class 6 on a 32 GB card? The speed difference is really in file location, not playback right?
Basically, yes.

There's pros and cons to getting Class 10 cards.
From what I read, Class 10 offers the best read/write speeds so this is a positive point.
The problem is, the random access performance of higher class cards is not as good as the lower class cards.
Some users have stated that Class 10 cards in their Android devices have created lag, which is attributable to the lower random access performance.
Personally, I'm using a Class 4 32GB Transcend card and so far I've not experienced any problems. I did use a Class 10 16GB Kingston and it my Play did suffer some lag.
I think the main advantage of higher class cards is performing file transfers between sources, as the higher write/read speeds would indicate.
yes that is true some people say that there class 10 cards give them lag in games.
i have a class 10 memento card in mine but i havnt had any lag issues
but i do notice that transfering large amounts of data
and loading games times are faster on a class 10

If you look on the microSDHC card, it will have a circle with a number in it. That is its class.
If there is no number, it is Class 2.
I bought a class 10 Lexar 32gb microsdhc and i was shocked when i put it in my play. It was lagging in all the gameloft games most noticeably in Sacred Odyssey. I returned that and bought a 23gb Kingston class 4 and i have no problems with that .
I think its because the card had problems reading lots of small files, i noticed that when i was copying my data over the speed was coming down to 1mb!

I am personally using a Samsung 32Gb class 2 card. It works very well, no noticeable lag in any of my games, be they Gameloft or Fpse. I have a Sandisk 32GB class 4 card I plan to move to, just to lazy to copy everything over right now.
Im using a class 4 sandisk i got from amazon uk for £49.99 no problems here. One thing i can warn you about though is dont go for a class 2 card because if the xperia play ever gets 720p video recording a class 2 card is not going to cope and you will have a loss in recorded frames.

It's not that bad, and digital zoom (which is the only zoom phone cameras get..'cept for that one japanese one..) is just as effective as zooming into your picture after you've taken it. It's a useless, garbage feature, and everyone who misses it should be ashamed.

well digital zoom is pretty ****ty anyway, it is pretty much zooming into the full size image live and then cropping it and enlarging it. You get better results taking a full frame image and then zooming and cropping on your pc.
I also have read in other places that the play is capable to 720p.
Sony usually likes to keep thing hidden so when they release an update you stop raging for a while because there are pretty new things that the device has always been capable of.
I use my 32gb I got from my Thunderbolt. Which is a class 4 and I have to say it works like a charm and way better than its 8gb class 2.

Recommended microSD card manufacturer

Of lexar, patriot, and topram. I would assume patriot is at least equal to lexar since they make RAM for computers. I know lexar is like a huge flash memory manufacturer though. It's $20 more than the patriot one though. I'm looking at 32GB ones because my FLAC music doesn't like fitting on 22GB between my phone and 8gb microSD card I have now. I'd probably still need a 64GB one if they ever come out though, FLAC is unforgiving in its size, that's the price of quality though.
Funny thing is all the music I'm putting on it is only 18.5GB (and I even added a few bands' discographies worth of music to the list to check size) on it and.. it doesn't really even fit half of it?... Anyway, that blazing 2MB/s average 5MB/s peak transfer speed to my infuse is just incredibly annoying so I'd love to just have a removable SD card with all the stuff that's subject to future hate, such as music.
usually sandisk products are extremely fast and good quality however with your choices, patroit is decent in it quality though.hope i helped.
that's really odd . . .
Kingston works fine for me, but maybe its just my experience
i definitely recommend sandisc. they're awsome
using a 16gb sandisc in my phone, never had problems, and as much as i know they got lifetime warranty?
but srsly, the 32gb products are just too expensive right now. so lastly, i bought a unknown 32gb card for around 40$.
i think its some chinaware, but still i can play flac files from it without problems and no quality loss (i dont hear any quality loss with my UE TF10)
well so, for music only, this unknown 32gb microSD is enough with my cowon j3 so i have 64gb in total for my flacs, but i would never use it in my phone.. i just dont trust it enough.. only sandisc for my phones
Nonononono. I can't buy sandisk because they don't make a class 10 32GB microSD card. I can NOT sit through another 5 hours of transferring my songs to my phone. 10 would at least half the time.
But the weird thing is the media player that came with my phone was playing FLAC songs fine until now and now it's all "This file type is not supported"
Edit: a reboot fixed that... weird

This may be hard to comprehend, but some people have jobs that actually require communication in the form of a mobile phone. If it takes 5 hours to transfer the music I have right now, I don't even have half the music I want, it could take 15 hours to transfer all the music, do I sound like I have the time to not use my phone for anything for 15 hours?

Most of these cards comes with an SD Adapter which you can plug in your laptop, otherwise there are also microsdhc to usb adapters available if you don't have access to a laptop with an sd card reader.
then again there are also options for for multi card readers which are pretty cheap.

don't buy anything less than class 6, too slow for a good fast phone experience, specially if you plan to run apps from the SD card
Don't do this. Look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15269669#post15269669
I use a class 4 32gb sandisk and the speed is fine. Lower class cards are more realiable and the average user cant tell the difference unless you're transferring large files or large quantities of files at once. My class 4 acts like a class 6 but is super reliable.
Id highly recommend a class 4 over a class 10. There's a thread around here if you search that will tell you the benefits of a class 4 and lower class against higher class cards.

isn't the only thing the class does is gauge the speed of transferring files to and from the sd card, not the actual performance?

Higher class, like another poster said, will give you higher speeds for large file transfers. However, this comes (from testing) at a sacrifice in everyday use of read speeds on everyday smaller files (think gallery, music player, etc). That's basically a short summary of what other XDA members have found from testing. Personally, I picked up a 32GB card from SanDisk off of Amazon and am completely satisfied. You may have a slightly slower time adding all of your files initially, but you most likely won't notice the difference when accessing all those files later on the phone. Look up the card on Amazon and the corresponding reviews and decide for yourself. Hope this helps.

personally, i find those Class 10 to perform better for me.
the time it takes to write/read small files is negligent compared to the amount of time it takes to write/read large files like MP3, MKV, etc
those word documents/excel spreadsheets, pdf, notepad texts, loads up instantly on my Adata 32GB Class 10. and i got 3 of them
1 for music
1 for videos
1 for apps/games/docs/work
so again, that is yet another one of those where the benchmark says one thing, but real life usage shows otherwise
I use a PNY 16GB Class 10.
