32GB sandisk microSDHC for $99

just a heads up... did a search on this forum for "32GB" and didnt find anything. didnt bother searching "microsdhc" since so many people would have a different way of typing it out that it would be near impossible to find on a search.
anyways, Verizon Wireless seems to have the SanDisk 32GB microSDHC cards IN STOCK and is selling them for $99 online with free overnight shipping. most places havent had stock EVER since it was released a couple of months ago. original retail price on them began at $240 or something.
unfortunately, these are Class 2 only, but generally it's not the card that's the bottleneck when it comes to speed on your device. i popped mine in this morning when it arrived and have had no problems with reading at all; 350mb XviD avi rips of TV shows like Rescue Me and 550mb XviD avi rips of Top Gear all play back flawlessly on my Samsung Vibrant.
write speeds have a bit to be desired, but i cant complain due to faster cards being unavailable. compared to my Class 6 16GB card, it has no ill effects from what i have so far observed while in the device.
cliffs: $99 for a SanDisk 32GB microSDHC from verizonwireless.com with free overnight shipping. normal price from them is $150, but is on special for now... the original deal was $50 off with the purchase of a Droid X, but that seems to have changed for a limited time. cheapest i can find it anywhere else using Google Shopping is $140 before tax+shipping.

Thanks for the heads up. Do a search on Engadget for an article on it (I can't post the link). Apparently it just hit the store 8 days ago.
Still, I dunno. I'm kind of on the fence about getting it due to the price (just dropped $550 on the phone itself).

Because I want to be able to ditch my MP3 player (which currently has 30+ gigs of music) and use my phone exclusively. One less thing to carry around.

I think they meant to point out that unless you want to carry around a tiny breakable easy to lose 16gb card in ur pocket or bag and switch out when you need to, having 32gb in one card is more convenient which combined with how newly available the card is, it is quite cheap for the price. You only pay a bit more per GB in this case, normally you'd pay 2-3x more in the beginning for the new highest capacity in flash memory.

What would someone possibly need on a 32 gb that cant fit on a16 plus having access to any pc you plug your phone into plus another 15 approx gigs internal?

I know at least for me, there's never enough space. Unless they somehow manage to offer Terabyte microSD cards. Even the, I'm sure I'd find a sure for it.
Music, movies, games, ebooks, audiobooks, work files, space for pictures and videos, etc.
Do you NEED to have that much stuff on you? No, but it's nice to have access to everthing and worry less about space.
I know I have 14gb of music on my card and that's mostly just ONE genre of music. I have over 150gb of music. And yes, I do listen to all 14gb that I do have on there. It's good to have access to lots of music for parties and get togethers. Remote access is not always a perfect solution.
Again, I don't NEED all the space, but I sure as heck will use it when I have it.
If I had more space, I'd also partition space on my phone for portable apps. Having access to FireFox, GIMP, Openoffice, 7zip, etc wherever I go is a huge plus.

well yes, I agree, there are things to use the space. I'm just saying given the phone limitations wouldn't it be easier to dropbox and/or grab crap off the pc? The thing does have allshare/server capabilities to make that easier.

Do you need to be plugged into the PC to get the files off of it? I assume you do, but even if you didn't, think of all the battery power wasted to get the files when you want them. e.g. let's say I am on a bus or stuck waiting for something and want to watch a show or movie on my pc on my phone. I'd need to get on 3g, hope it can all stream fast enough, and the battery would run out super fast using 3g and playing a video all at once.
Also as for the 32gb 16gb argument. I might be able to work with limited storage, but I personally could fill about 5tb or more with anime and movies and tv shows that I'd like, and if I could carry all of that on my phone, and be able to select anything I want immediately and have it right there, that would be amazingly convenient. Therefore as far as I am concerned 16gb, 32gb, it's never really enough, people can always fill more space. However I will deal with having only a 16gb card on my Epic 4G when it comes out.

I thought the max microSD card the phone accepts is 16 gigs as per specs supplied in the manual. Guess those are wrong then? Good to know! Thanks for posting this topic!!

i can fit 20GB of movies, TV shows, and music on a single card without having to connect my phone to a computer to add more.
THAT wont fit on a 16GB card. i dont carry my laptop wherever i go, therefore i dont really have access to any data beyond the 16GB card. maybe you are always near your computer, but i'm not.

i set the removable card slot as the save point for the camcorder app and recorded nearly 7 minutes of video with lots of movement. no issues when recording.
i then played it back using both the built-in video player and eStrong File Explorer's built-in video player and experienced no dropped frames, freezing, or slowdowns, nor did the audio and video go out of sync.
i'm a hobbyist photographer so reliable, fast memory cards are something i'm always on the lookout for. because of this, i've sampled a lot of different brands in the past (i'm always testing different brands to try and find cheaper alternatives for my camera) and have found that SanDisk flash memory cards are consistently much faster than their rated spec. this result with the 32GB microSD is probably no different nor that unusual, based on my previous experience.
if i have some free time this morning and will do some read/write tests of the SanDisk 32GB Class 2 card alongside the original Samsung 2GB card that the Vibrant came with, a SanDisk 2GB Class 2 card, and a SanDisk 16GB Class 6 card i used in my HD2.

i really dont understand how anyone can manage to COMPLAIN about more data space, or that someone bothered to share a good deal they had found. either you people lead unhappy lives or you're lashing out because you're unable to afford one... because there's no logical explanation you can create to support an argument against a 32GB card except price.

the microSDHC spec allows for up to 32GB. it's just taken this long (released in the beginning of this year, or so) for a company to create a chip dense enough to reliably manufacture a 32GB microSD card.
the new spec, microSDXC, will cover sizes ranging from 32GB up to 2TB in the Secure Digital format. 64GB SDXC cards are already available from Panasonic and SanDisk.

Need a recommendation on SD card

Hey everyone, I've never purchased one of these for a phone as they've always came with one. Anyway I'm looking for a solid recommendation for a fast 32GB SD card. I have a Tiger Direct local to me so I'll probably try to go their today once I have something to reference.

What about Class type? I see people say 4 is fine but then I see others that say either 6 or 10 for access speeds relating to pics and videos.

I will recomnend you buying a class 6 or higher; possibly a class 10. Samsung has it in both so u can purchase it

don't buy anything less than class 6, too slow for a good fast phone experience, specially if you plan to run apps from the SD card

I use a class 4 32gb sandisk and the speed is fine. Lower class cards are more realiable and the average user cant tell the difference unless you're transferring large files or large quantities of files at once. My class 4 acts like a class 6 but is super reliable.
Id highly recommend a class 4 over a class 10. There's a thread around here if you search that will tell you the benefits of a class 4 and lower class against higher class cards.

Just purchased 32GB san disk micro SD from amazon for $37 and it works great. Replaced my old 16GB where there was not enought space to keep my fav music library.

Higher class, like another poster said, will give you higher speeds for large file transfers. However, this comes (from testing) at a sacrifice in everyday use of read speeds on everyday smaller files (think gallery, music player, etc). That's basically a short summary of what other XDA members have found from testing. Personally, I picked up a 32GB card from SanDisk off of Amazon and am completely satisfied. You may have a slightly slower time adding all of your files initially, but you most likely won't notice the difference when accessing all those files later on the phone. Look up the card on Amazon and the corresponding reviews and decide for yourself. Hope this helps.

personally, i find those Class 10 to perform better for me.
the time it takes to write/read small files is negligent compared to the amount of time it takes to write/read large files like MP3, MKV, etc
those word documents/excel spreadsheets, pdf, notepad texts, loads up instantly on my Adata 32GB Class 10. and i got 3 of them
1 for music
1 for videos
1 for apps/games/docs/work
so again, that is yet another one of those where the benchmark says one thing, but real life usage shows otherwise

Anyone using a Class 10 or any kind of Ultra SD? How's that going? Do you own/owned any portable music devices like an iPod to compare with? All I know is my Classic can transfer at least 1 song per second, usually more, with over 32GBs of music that's great or if just transferring my newest 30 songs. With my class 4 SD in my Xperia it takes about 4-5 seconds per song and I would prefer to bounce it off the wall :fingers-crossed: :good:
I'm planning to get the Xperia Sola and upgrading my SD, (upgrading headphones after that) but I'm just looking for feedback?

Use a microSD USB adapter or SDcard adapter to get 10Mb/s, if I do use the usb cable the speed is like 2mb/s

I use a Samsung Class 10 32GB SD and the speeds are very Good.

I don't get it. What's so bad about class 4 microSD cards? I use Sandisk 16GB Class 4 aswell, I don't cry about lag, because I don't have it. Transferring songs isn't that slow, I don't do it often either so no problems with it.
Or is it just that people keep wanting more and more?

Is it just that people don't read entire posts?
As I posted above already, the issue is that I've been using various dedicated media devices for years which have consistently performed at far higher data transfer speeds. I'll say it again:
I have 32GB of music, if I transfer with an Apple device it transfers at least 1 song per second. For a large music collection, it does this very quickly as you can see. If I'm transferring the newest 20 or 30 songs in my collection, it does that in about 30 35 seconds.
If I asked my last phone or my current Android phone to do this, it takes about 4-5 seconds to transfer ONE song (or podcast). Whether it's a few minutes for just a few songs, or a few hours to transfer my whole collection, it's terrible performance and tedious.
Which brings me to my question about data speeds. I'm sure someone suggested before that it could be partly Apple cables being designed for optimum transfer speeds. I completely forgot about SD classes though, and I found the Sandisk Class 10 Ultra transfer up to 30mbps. I checked on eBay and they are not that expensive - about €30 for for 32GB. I'll get that soon and report back!
p.s. I just asked Sony about this and they said they've tested classes 2 and 4 with their phones and said that a class 10 will likely not work with their phones so not to purchase! Hmm. Mind you, many people here have bought 64GB SD cards when Sony said 32GB is the highest that you should use. I'll find someone here using a class 10!

One of the problems - the chip. Phone's motherboard and it's transfer speed. It takes a longer 'distance' for the data to travel - from the computer, through the cable, through the chip, onto the SD.
Apple devices don't use SD cards, they have built-in memory chips, which have a lot faster r/w speeds, also they use the full max speed of USB 2.0(35 megabytes per second), microUSB has a bit lower rate of speed, and certain compression to transfer faster, which doesn't happen on other devices.
On the internet, there are sometimes written only maximum speeds(like you said - up to). The Class shows only minimum speed, Class 10 having minimum of 10 MB/s for write operation.
Android devices are not the same as Apple. Everything can't be the same, because it has been built different.

What is roughly speaking, the best performance you can achieve with Android using an SD? What is the best performance a micro-USB can provide? On my new laptop, I made sure to get a USB 3.0 port but I'm guessing I won't be able to use that with Android until compatible devices are released. Devices with on-board storage as large as I'd like are uncommon and very expensive, so SD it is. Would a class 10 SD be the best you could get? I would be happy with a slight decrease in Apple-type performance, but 1 song every 4-5 seconds is too bad. Essentially, what I'm trying to do is to integrate my phone and media player in one device, without paying a fortune for an iPhone.

A 32GB Class 10 SDHC is the largest and fastest kind of SD card compatible with Arc/Arc S. Some people have had luck with larger cards, but officially SDXC isn't supported on 2011 Xperia phones.
Phones currently don't support USB 3.0 as they don't have the processing power or data bandwidth to support USB 3.0 transfer speeds. You're hard pressed to find anything that maxes out USB 2.0 apart from dedicated storage - the two devices that exceed USB 2.0 speeds that I own are an external hard drive and a card reader that I use with high-speed CompactFlash. I usually get 10MB/s writes using this with my Class 10 MicroSD.
To be honest, trying to write at high speeds through the phone's system is an exercise in futility - just get a good card reader, it doesn't have to be a USB 3.0 model (which are usually rather expensive and aimed at photographers) as SDHC maxes out around 10-12MB/s writes anyway.

I got a 32 GB class 10 card with my phone when I got it. I move all apps to SD as much as possible, and also listen to a lot of music. I also take a lot of pictures and videos. So for me it was just calculated in as part of the cost of the phone when I bought it - it was a no-brainer.

My plan is: new phone with excellent audio tech+class 10 SD+great earphones=very happy me. I'll have the phone next week, finally.

I've a 16 gb class 10 Samsung sd, and run's fine whithout problems.

Well I have the same card, and I never managed to cross 7MB/s, with large files, music or videos. Not on my old system, not on my new system. Not on Windows XP, not on Ubuntu, not on Windows 7. Not on 6 different USB ports on my old system, and not on 8 USB ports on my new system. Two different USB cables are tested also.
So I'm really curious to know how could anyone manage to get 15MB/s with this phone.
Do you mind to post screenshot while transferring data at 15MB/s?

Ok, i dont know if all you are really using Original Sony USB cable or one chinese and cheaper, due to a posible damage on original one, i only posted for info.

Check write/read speed, tested with Antutu benchmark.
Like I said earlier, card is SanDisk class 10, 16GB.

I'm using 32 GB Ultra High Speed (UHS-I) microSD, works fine
also i've got cute micro adaptor with it for fast downloading from PC
my AnTuTu scores 5624

[Q] A couple of questions regarding sdhc card + screen protectors

What's the difference between class? I see class 10 and class 4, class 4 is a lot cheaper then 10 but what's the actual difference? Does class 10 transfer files faster or something?
and also can anybody recommend a good screen protector? I had one come free with my case on eBay but it doesn't even fit the whole screen

Class refers to the minimum read/write speed in MB/sec. Reputable brands actually adhere to these speeds while others are relatively meaningless.

As stated above for SD cards.
And for screen protectors, get Xtreme guards, simoly looked amazing in my One X. Waiting for them to come in the mail for the S3 now.

Depends on what you do with that card.
If it's a big card and you often transfer large files to and from it, transfer speed does matter.
If you record HD videos directly to your sd card and your card isn't fast enough your video might stutter or have artifacts.
If you put games on your SD card and those games depend on high transfer rates, you might get lag.
But since the S3 has at least 16GB of internal memory you should have enough space to put stuff that need high transfer rates to your fast internal memory.
A class 2 or 4 sd card should suffice for most people. If you need the high transfer rates though, you'll have to go with a faster card.

Cards get memory lag which means they slower to access files when they filled with a load of files, so ignore the class ratings because a decent quality Class 4 works better in everyday use than a cheap Class 10 even if it can potentially transfer faster.
And files for a phone aren't usually neatly lined up so easily the best value card is Class 6 or 10 SanDisk Ultra then you know your phone can handle anything you throw at it.

Ahh okay, I plan on watching movies and stuff I'll just go with the class 10 over the cheaper one I just wanted to know how it would affect phone use

Look for a seller with a much higher feedback because there's a serious chance you could get scammed with a fake card there.
But if you find a genuine one that is a good one, but personally I'd spend a bit more for the 32gb card then you know you've always got enough space if your needs change.

Oh yeah I just saw the feedback, how can I see if it's fake? I'd definitely return the card if it turned out to be fake..
I looked at his feedback and 2 people have said the cards were good

People setup new accounts and build up a few hundred fake feedback pm more people are likely to buy from them, I mean I'm not saying by any means this is a scammer but just find another seller with feedback in the thousands to be more safe.
And the only way to tell if it's a fake is run a benchmark in your computer and check the card and packaging look real compared to pictures.

If you only want to watch movies a class10 is probably overkill. The problem is when you want to use the camera to record 1080p movies.
There is a difference between write and read speeds of flash memory like sd cards. They usually are pretty fast when it comes to reading but writing speed is another matter.
You should be fine with a good class4 card like one from sandisk.

what about writing to my internal and copying over to my SD if I need to?

Writing from your internal to your external memory will be as slow/fast as writing from a cardreader to your sd card. Depending on the writing speed of said card.
When your sd card is too slow for direct 1080p recording your suggestion is a valid way to record those videos without lag. Record onto the fast internal memory and then move it to the slower external memory when you need space on the internal one. The sd card will still be fast enough to play the video.
Would be annoying if you had to do that a lot, though. If that's the case you should spend the extra money for a faster sd card.
I have no idea how fast that card has to be. I never had a device that can record in 1080p. However, I'm using an htc hd2 and run most of my apps(including games) from my sd card and in the beginning even the OS. I never noticed any stuttering or lag that didn't come from the OS itself. I've been using sandisk class2 for that and moved to a bigger sandisk class4 recently. No decernible improvement other than that it's a little faster to copy files from my computer to my phone and back, now.
Those cards are rather inexpensive nowadays, especially when we are talking about only 16GB. Don't think about it too much. Just buy one and try. If you have problems with the speed, use it as a flash drive and get a faster card for your phone.

I'm surprised noone has mentioned this yet. But do not buy that card. That auction is for a SDHC card, our phones are only compatible with Micro SD(HC) cards. If you buy that card, you will not be able to use it in your phone. You will need to find a Micro SDHC card.

To be honest I can't even see me using the 11GB you get on the phone unless it's music, an 8GB would do me just fine but I'm going to get the 16GB just in case, I'm only really getting one for rooting

I'm in the UK, and I've got a question about the trident case too.
It has a screen that you put over the front, does this mean I'll have to detach the case just to use the phone? The otterbox case looks great and well worth the money after seeing an anchor get dropped without leaving a mark on the case let alone the phone

If you are in the UK, I think you should have a look to this people ebay, I buy everything from them, they now have a nice screen protector and various cases and battery covers (I personally take a lot of care of my phone), check this out:

Sandisk 32GB Class 10 from DX?

Anyone have any experience from the Sandisk 32GB Class 10 from DealExtreme?
I'm looking for a good sd card and I think this one fits my needs.
I have ordered from DX a long time ago when they had flashcarts and a flashlight, but I have no expereince with buying an microsd card from them.
There's a chance it is fake, but as long as it works it doesn't bother me at all.
Looking at the reviews it seems good and I'm about to order, just want to see what you guys think of it or if anyone of you guys have bought an sd card from them.

Probably not absolutely necessary but the price differential between that and a lower class (speed) one isn't that great (couple of dollars) to make the cheaper one a 'bargain'.

You will be surprise. It really makes a difference when browsing through my gallery. All videos and photos are stored on my external SD.

I had a San disk 64 gb extreme card for a year and my media scanner service was always in the top three for battery usage. I have a transcend 64 gab class 10 and media scanner is now in the lower five.
