Telus Speed tests results - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

So i was doing a few tests in the train this morning.
I previously reached 8mbps thinking it was great.. but this blew me away..
I live north-shore of Montreal. The network in downtown Montreal is horrible, i can barely reach 4mbps.
What are you guys getting and where?

4G Speeds

What kind of 4G speeds is everyone recording?
I live in the DC Area and I am getting on average 3800-4500kbp/s (5100 top so far) and 1000kbp/s up (1500 top so far).
Best I have for results on the speedtest app is 5459 down and 1032 up. Boston Area.
In Overland Park, KS (KC Area, coverage map is mid-level where I live), I've been getting about 1500kbps down and 990-1000kbps up.
It seems like it may be throttled though, it will start downloading around 2.5Mbps for a second or so then drop to the steady 1.5Mbps, same with the upload speed, starts around 1.5Mbps-2Mbps then drops back down to about 1Mbps
See the attached screen cap for my 4Gresults from Chicago.

Opposite of what I get when I run the tests. Starts at around 2Mbs or so and gradually climbs up to 5Mbs. Im using the Speed Test.net app.
What kind of latency are you all seeing with the 4G? hopefully its better than the 3G as im currently getting between 150ms to 300ms and sometimes it jumps up to a second or more.
I was just in Las Vegas and the best I got was 2.5Mbps down / 1Mbps up. That was with full bars 4G. Oh yeah, and ping latency was like 300-400 ms. Not super awesome.

4g speeds capped?

Been running speed tests around Austin/san Marcos/san Antonio and noticed that 4g only reaches 2.5 megs, whereas in those areas was able to reach anywhere from 5 to 8 meg speeds.
From what I see the test fluttered at 2.5 which is one of the symptoms of a cap.
I live between Austin and San Marcos on 183 and I have gotten up to around 5.5mbps on 4g a couple times. It is always faster at work (near the airport) than at home. Home is usually around 2.5mbps
Not capped

It all depends on the server location you run the speed test on. I live in TN, and for some reason when I do a speedtest to Clarvsville, TN I only get around 3mb a sec.
Now, if I set it to test on a server in witchita KS, I get 7-8mbps.
So, try different server locations. I use the speedtest.net app since it seems to actually work correctly now.
first if anybody is going off the results of the speedtest.net app, dont put too much trust in those results, that app isnt very accurate, go to the actual site from the phone...anyways i noticed the same symptoms (capping) but im thinking that sprint is throttling the speeds in certain markets to help off-load the strain which alot of providers do, nothing new, whats disappointing is that what ever they are doing to regulate their speeds seems to affect the coverage, some days i get 1 bar 2Mbps some days i get 2bars 500kpbs and somedays i get 3 bars 1.5Mbps and my area is SATURATED in 4g coverage
Ive ran speed test 50 times in Nashville, and I've only seen 3 mb (even with full bars). Of course, Nashville isnt official yet.
After the 2.2 update I went from average 2-3mbps to 6-7 mbps. I live in San Marcos by the way, so I would think in SA or Austin the speeds would just be a bit faster. My 3g speeds also increased after the update but those have been piss poor since I've had a treo 700wx....
And hello xda, been lurking around since I've had a mogul. Thanks to all those who have contributed to this wonderful place of knowledge.

4G in Northern Colorado?

Anybody in Northern Colorado, or anywhere in Colorado, had success in getting some 4G coverage?
I just flashed to Baked Snack from cm6 to create a backup I can use while I'm in Vegas this weekend so I could test out 4G finally and was able to connect to 4G from my basement!
Ran some speed tests and performs better than the 3G here. I actually normally get 3G speeds in the 2000's at UNC which has a Sprint tower on one of the residence halls. At my house it's rather slow, the 826 download is 3G, the rest are 4G except the wifi.
Anybody have any luck in this area?
I am in fort Collins and have not managed to get 4G anywhere around here or in loveland. I am not really checking very often to tell you the truth. I hear there are areas in denver. Did you get 4g somewhere in northern colorado?
I've gotten pretty damn nice results with only 2 bars of 4G here in Orlando, Fl
Yes i live in Greeley, about 3 miles west of UNC and that's where I got those results from.
Ive never even bothered to turn it on before either until recently just to make sure the radio would work.
I'll keep it on during the day and let.you know how things are working.

I guess I am just going to have to start randomly testing around here. I did not think it was in this area so I have not bothered even trying that much.
Try out Map Viewer on the market (Sensorly), you can see where other users are getting Wimax 4g in your area, you can also let it track where you're getting 4g. Also tracks GSM, CDMA, and wireless connections.
Some 4g in the downtown Denver area along I-25, US 6, up and down Alameda, Sheridan and Wadsworth.
Short Sprint outage in Greeley today = 4g coverage around 36 and 47th (the only area I have been in so far speeds as tested with Speedtest.net app = 1.5 down 800 up.
I've got 4G at home now. it has been off and on, but I've got it at home and at my office.
Denver Tech Center definitely gets it...haven't tried any other places.

T-Mobile Galaxy Nexus Users REPORT HERE

Hello fellow T-Mobile Gnex users. I just received my GSM Gnex last night.
What kinds of speeds are you guys getting in speed tests, and from what city?
I have not changed as settings as of yet, but wondered if there were any that needed to be changed to achieve the best possible speeds, such as APN settings.
Also, were there any specific radios/ "Testing" menu settings changes that you had to change?
In Anaheim, CA.
Outdoors I hit 10mbps versus indoors I hit 3-5mbps.
I didn't modify the APN. I'm on epc.tmobile.com
>8mbps down
>2mbps up
indoors. dallas, tx.
i put my sim in and haven't done **** to the phone.
New Yersey
>10mb
>3mb
Thanks for the replies guys. My office is a cell-phone dungeon (Stuck on edge in here). Once I get outside/ "downtown" for my city, I will report in with speeds.
I'm slow I guess...
In Atlanta, getting 4-5mb down and 1-1.5mb upload. Using UGKL1 radio. KK6 caused signal drops (only solution was a reboot) and KK7 was useless - only 2.5mb download speed.
sf bay area -- get between 5-11 down and 1.7 up
have played with with a variety of settings including apn, but doesn't really seem to matter wrt speed
IN Dallas Texas ... Finally about to order my GSM Galaxy Nexus Tomorrow. Was wondering where did you order yours??? Cant wait to look at my Nexus One, Nexus S, and soon to be Galaxy Nexus all laying together .....

This is the best speed I've pulled thus far. 12.7 down 3.6 up.
I'm in Atlanta using kk6 radio. After changing to the kk6 radio, I noticed my speeds seemed to improve and so did the bars displayed for signal strength.
In pHX Arizona
13.2 mbps on average 8-9mbps
3-5mbps up
I'm in NYC. The highest I've gotten in Manhattan was about 11.45 Mbps downstream, and this only happened once. T-Mobile's data speeds vary wildly throughout the city and are nowhere near the speeds that forum members from other cities are reporting. On my block (I live in Brooklyn), I've been getting about 1.5 - 1.7 Mbps downstream. A couple of blocks to the North, the downstream speeds are about 4.5 - 6.0 Mbps. A couple of blocks to the East, the speeds drop to about 0.06 - 0.1 Mbps (this is not an exaggeration). I was thinking of switching to Verizon when the GNex was announced, but decided to get the GSM version and ride out the rest of my contract with TMo. I have a two-line family plan, and my wife's line will be out of contract in October. Unless TMo gets their affairs in order, I doubt I'll be renewing.
sad.... 3.6mb down and .8 mb up....

I just did a speed test outside of Chelsea Market (15th St. and 9th Ave.) and was lucky enough to get 4.4 Mbps downstream, with a ping of 1900 ms. This is one of the better results I've gotten in NYC. I have no idea how other TMo users are getting high speeds - I know it's not my SIM card, as my wife is getting speeds similar to mine on her G2.

Eh? the tests I got today are 6-7 Mbps. I even got speeds of 8-10 at one point (not today because I wasn't in that area).

Richmond Indiana data speeds

I was in that area today and thought I would check on some data speeds. I was able to get download speeds of 1700 kbps. Now it was around 8am, but I thought that was really good. Upload was only 300-550kbps but didn't think it was too hateful. I had around half signal, so maybe things are looking up.
My average speeds, just outside of San Antonio Texas are about 1200kbps. I peaked at 1600kbps. My uploads peaked at 700kbps while the average was about 550kbps. I must say, it's pretty impressive for sprint's 3g network.

That is great. I guess I should mention that I was on 3g when getting those speeds.
