another problem occurred.
I flash the 11.1 nightly on my defy,(As flunk03 said, wipe cache and dalvik before and after flashing), it works very well, but an USB problem comes out, when I plug the usb cable to microUSB port, nothing happened, the phone do not show the usb connection, the computer do not "ding", either. Then I reboot the phone, it connects to the computer and shows me charging.
PS, after flash the ninghtly, I uninstall the MOTOROLA PORTAL, does it relate with the problem? who can help?
thx in advanced.
So it's not the cable or ports, try go to Device Manager from ur computer and see if you can see any unrecognized device? If you do, just download the Motorola usb drivers and install it ...

thank you, but my pc do not react anything, and it happens randomly, reboot, then it is ok. i do not know why? and when i plug usb cable to the charger, the phone shows it is charging, so i think it is the ROM problem or something.
I have a similar problem with the MS2Ginger 2.0 Lite:
After selecting USB Mass-Storage Mode in the top menu the phone says "preparing SD card.." and then shows "MTP: no SD card found" or sth - but there's clearly a SD card in the device and it's accessible, too -> i can browse through the gallery and everything..
No Mass Storage for me it seems...anybody got a solution to this?

Hi guys, I'm obviously new here, but I did have a look and couldn't seem to find this answer anywhere else.
I'm trying to hook my HTC Desire to my PC, but every time I connect it via USB cable it says that device drivers are not found and that Windows cannot rectify the problem.
I've tried installing HTC Sync, but the PC won't even recognise that there's a phone or mass storage device hooked up, so it just stays at "disconnected".
I've selected the phone to appear as a mass storage device when I plug it int the PC (I even select this on the phone's display as I connect it via USB so the phone realises that it's being plugged into a PC).
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks in advance.
I've struggled with a problem like this before (though, a flash drive, not a phone).
There were two solutions that helped mi on two different occasions.
1) Removing all usb devices from the computer. Shut the computer down, take out the power cord and wait for 20-30 min to settle all capacitors. Then turn it on and plug the devices back in.
2) Put the device in the computer as Mass Storage. Go to device manager and see where is the device. Right click on it (should be unknown or stuff), choose update driver. If it doesn't find anything try updating windows with latest patches and try again.
3) I was solving a non-detectable usb webcam, but removing ALL usb devices from the device manager (Under USB choose device, delete, choose device, delete.) Then click Scan for changes on the top to refresh the devices and install the drivers of the usb root hubs, etc. This would probably fix the problem if the above fails.
---- edit ----
Quick note: if your keyboard/mouse are USB, you could hang without keyboard or mouse until you restart your computer, so keep in mind if you can detect them, delete them last
----/edit -----
If you still can't get it to work, please provide results from another computer (if it works there as mass storage), or better if you have some Linux Live CD you could try there if it gets recognised.
Where you try to plug usb cable into PC - front panel or rear? Because a lot of PCs have an issue with front panel usb. Try rear panel

Thanks to both of you for the swift replies
I actually figured I'd check this short fix before trying the more detailed ones and it seems like it was just a matter of plugging it into the rear usb!
I'm definitely putting this solution to my personal FAQ. Thanks, jankos.
HTC EVO won't mount as a drive
verified that issue was with the front USB port. I plugged my EvO in to a usb hub I had plugged into back usb port and it worked like it was supposed to.
I was trying to put the hum/hiss sound fix on my sd card and I cannot get my pc to connect via USB...
My wife has a TP2 and it connects fine...
I have tried with/without the sd card in, rebooted the pc and phone, rebooted the phone while connected to the pc.... nothing...
wtf...
anyone else with this problem?
PS... NRGZ28 had posted a very basic rom for booting to android back in Feb and it is now gone from hotfile. Anyone know of a quick boot into android?
- Try a different computer
- Try a hard reset
That are the first thing you should do.
Tried hard reset...
Dif PC is not an option at the moment... I have rebooted...
Just flashed the ROM (NRGZ newest, thank goodness I had it on my SD card) and I still cant get it to sync...
I have attached the USB error I am getting... (Win7, new install)
The phone is not asking if I want to active sync or use as storage???? wtf...

Reboot your PC? lol bet your tried that already...
Try this:
settings > connections > usb to pc > and disable Faster Data Sync then try. This way uses the generic usb drivers and maybe it will connect.
That did not work...
How do I get my Win7 laptop to see the phone with Android on it?

dont think thats working yet
Ya I don't think that works yet, it's tied to Android software drivers and the use of the USB port, since there is no drivers to control the port only to charge battery. Windows thinks there is something there, but the phones USB can't communicate back....I think this is the issue or at lease after playing around with it on my phone anyway
Not that it's a huge amount of help but might troubleshoot down to the hardware level...if you go into bootloader mode on the phone and connect to USB does it connect?
I don't think you should go that deep and dirty. My touch pro 2 works only with only 1 (non-HTC) cable of the 10 i have at home, all are the "standard" mini-USB but only one works flawlessly for communicating/flashing/syncing, the other cables either do the same error - device not recognized - or windows says that the device could communicate faster - and only copies files slowly.
All in all: you should simply check with another USB cable or if you have the factory HTC cable try it with that. I noticed that the cable i am using other than the HTC one is a very good quality thick (low-resistance and double-shielded) USB cable and it never failed on me.
One other thing you should definitely watch for: plug the USB cable into the motherboard USB port directly (on the back of the PC where you plug the keyboard, mouse etc.), sometimes PC cases with front panel USB outputs simply die, or are wrongly attached to the motherboard USB header and it can cause the aforementioned problems too, not to mention if it is wrongly attached it could harm your phone too.
Hey Guys and Girls.
Till few days ago my DHD was working just fine.
Now when I connect it to pc nothing happens, just show that its charging.
Phone is not showing that I can chose USB type, and pc is not recognizing anything, even in computer manager.
Weird thing is showing in phone application manager, when Im going to transfer app to sd, its show "TRANSFER TO PHONE STORAGE", but when is on sd it show "TRANSFER TO PHONE".
I think I tried everything. Pls help.
1. I instal 3 version of custom Rom and still same thing.
2. I test my sd in computer and other phone, work fine.
3. I tried original USB and other USB and nothing.
4. No pc can recognize phone.
Sound like you don't have the usb driver installed on your PC.
Install HTC sync to get the drivers. You can uninstall afterwards, but leave the drivers installed.
Sent from The App that Time Forgot.
I tried few times to reinstall HTC Sync , I also tried to instal older HTC Sync and nothing. Phone when connected not showing USB options, it only show that its charging, same as when I plug it in to wall charger.
Can someone trie to see my weird problem in app manager as I wrote in first post.
Thanks, I realy need help, don't want to buy another phone
And another thing, when u connect your mobile phone to any pc, it will ask you to chose USB connection type, even u don't have instaled drivers, u can use it as device USB storage
Try a different cable, or a different phone on that cable.
If a different cable works, the old one is dead.
If a different phone works on that cable, you have an issue with the phone.
If neither work on either phone / cable, try a different PC.
What firmware are you running?
I'm using RcMix 3d, runnymede 4.0.
2.3.5 with sense 3.5.
Cables are working with other phones,
Maybe my phone lose driver or something. Hmmmm
You could maybe try a full wipe, and/or reinstalling the rom.
Better yet - backup your current rom, then wipe and see if your phone connects. If it does, I'd restart from there.
One more thing.
When I'm going to backup my desire hd, everything is fine,
But on sd-ext its say no sd-ext backup skipped.
Maybe that's the problem?
My s2 is on gingerbread stock and apparently my usb port is broken as it only charges the device when connected to the computer. Is there any way to update to ice cream sandwich or root without usb support? Cant I just put root files in the sd card?

There is no way, because you have to Odin flash CWM in order to flash SU to root your phone. Are you sure your USB is broken? Have you tried downloading the drivers for the S2? Have you tried rebooting your PC? Does your phone show the USB symbol, and ask if you want to enable USB storage?

Thank you for the response, and yes im almost positive its broken, I have tried 3 different pc and 5 different cables when I connect to a computer it just charges the phone. No notification of usb no nothing, have tried factory reset plenty if times. Even if I didn't have drivers it should still show that it is connected to pc via device manager but nothing. My friend has an s2 as well and his plugs right up on the computer and immediately gets usb mass storage notification.

When you connect your phone to a new PC, or even a different USB port, does a USB mass storage or finding driver dialog box come up? Is there anything you can eject under safely remove hardware....ect on the taksbar? Anything under system properties / devices that show up unknown or say Android or ADB on it?

Nope nothing, its doesn't even show up on the device manager the computer doesn't even react to the connection, it just starts charging. I have read that this is a common issue with the s2 and the usb port needs to be replaced. Its about $7 so im not to worried about it.
When I plug my handset to ANY computer (with, without kies or drivers, it doesn't matter) the phone charges, but, nothing appears on the computer (no unknown device or recognizing the two drives of the phone, but not mounting them (as it did before)) on the phone.
The "USB" icon doesn't prompt and if I go to settings/wireless and network/ USB utilities, when I touch the USB mass storage button, it prompts me to connect cable, which is already connected.
-USB debug isn't activated (I've tried both)
When my phone is powered off and I start to charge it, the charging screen doesn't prompts, It just start booting.
I've tried different USB Cables.
The Phone is Official Stock Never Rooted (I discovered this trying to root it today)
Am I SOL if I want to root it without a working USB Data port?
Any ideas?
i would say make sure there's no dust/ buildup in the port. I had connection issues once to find a pocket lint cramed in there. next do all the other stuff. uninstall/reinstall drivers, diff usb port, diff pc, reboot. My symptoms were similar to yours but i was able to reboot into recovery/bootloader and use adb/fastboot no prob, so not sure. and I was already rooted/twrp recovery. might be worth it to try fastboot in bootloader just to be sure and get a recovery on it asap. If that works you should be able to recover stock or flash whatever, then test usb again in diff pc with fresh kies install. good luck.
Sounds like bad/improper USB cables to me, not all USB cables support data and charging, make sure you're using an official Samsung USB cable.
If you have a friend with a Samsung smart phone ask to try their cable.
