So i rooted my SGII T989 last night and did nothing else besides freeze some of the bloat with Ti. I turned off WiFi to run speedtest.net, and I'd get errors. Tried to go online, nothing. Tried to get any data from EDGE... nothing.
Unrooted and wiped everything, factory reset... nope. I called T-Mobile to switch to the new sim... nothing. I tried the airplane mode/reboot, resetting my APN, and all the other usual things... nada. My wifi works, I can send and recieve basic texts and calls, just can't get data. Oh, and I still have 4.5 G left on my plan.
Anyone have any suggestions before I ship this thing back?
*Edit*
Sent the beast packing, waiting on my replacement to arrive. I tried everything I could think of, including going into service mode... Maybe this should be seen as another "possible danger" of using odin?
Nothing? No one else has had this problem?
with no data its usually a sim card or ur efs has been screwed!
I tried both my old and new sim card... so i don't think it's that. Don't know enough about the subject, but wouldn't a hosed EFS also mess with my voice data? I suppose there wouldn't be any possible way of getting the EFS back on there, right?

So for the past 2 weeks I am having issues that basically render my phone unusable for 99% of the reasons I bought it. Posted a thread before but I think it got lost when the forums were having some instability around that time...
My 3g connection will NOT stay up. I did nothing to provoke this. No system changes. The sequence of events:
-Went out of the country with my phone on airplane mode the whole time
-Got back, a day or two later had an incorrect timestamp on my incoming SMS (they were showing up +3 hours)
-Called customer service, she activated a tester phone and confirmed that it was a system-side issue on the incoming SMS (somehow they were getting a timestamp from the system where my number is located, in Eastern time, while I am actually located in Pacific nowadays).
-Put in a trouble ticket after 2 hours trying to solve the SMS issue over the phone.
-Next day, my 3g connection begins dropping CONSTANTLY. As it stands, it won't stay connected more than 30 seconds. It will cycle to 1x sometimes, and then drop to a basic-service-only.
-Tried reinstalling my ROM several times to no effect.
-Started experiencing some very strange noises in SOME calls, such as it sounding like a chainsaw when the other person is talking. Happens very sporadically.
-Just today I found some instructions here for correcting my NAM settings, which were actually messed up as it turns out, but didn't fix anything.
At this point I actually have the phone unrooted and back to factory default everything, with no change. I've got a warranty replacement phone coming in shortly, but I'd still rather keep this one if I'm able to.
Is there anything I haven't tried that might be the case on my end? Has anyone seen this problem before? Has my phone antenna simply gone belly-up, or is this something that might still be fixed at some deep system-setting level, or with further calls to tech support?
So... I guess that's a no?

Had the same problem with my phone before I rooted my phone and starting to apply ROM's. I havent had a problem since. But when I had that problem, I would just keep turning on and off the 3g and it would stay for a while. It was just a quick fix but it worked. Off subject how did you unroot your phone and put it back top stock?
My phone just started doing this this yesterday. Whenever I reboot it, it'll come up, switch to 1x mode. After a while it'll try to switch to 3g mode, fail, switch to no service, and then either go to just basic voice with no data or back into 1x mode. I've tried updating the radio, switching roms, dialing *228, nothing seems to help.
Jager, instructions on a full reset are right here under section 6. I'm not sure why it's struck out. Definitely suggest poking around more first.
New phone's in and still having major connectivity issues. The SMS timestamp remains as it was, and I can't get (steadily) more than like 35kbps. I'll occasionally bump to 500kbps for a quick spurt, and then my connection will drop entirely and struggle to get back up to 35kbps. My wife's Incredible works perfectly fine in the exact same locations, too, so this is something that absolutely has to be on Verizon's side, specific to my line.
Me too
My phone has also been experiencing the loss of 3G service as well. I checked my wife's Moto Droid 1 and it was also having difficulty connecting as well. I called Verizon and they were absolutely no help whatsoever. I am either getting nothing or 1X in places where I have always had 3G. This is very frustrating. I have flashed 3 different ROMs (all of which have worked fine in the past), but the result always seems to be the same. Anyone else out there with this issue?

Someone help! Same issue! I can no longer get data....PERIOD. I have to stay connected to wifi, or I don't get my emails, internet, etc.
Need to fix this!
3G connection issues
I just got off the phone with Verizon Tech support. They are CONVINCED that it is an issue with my phone (and my wife's). Gee, how can 2 different phones, from different manufacturers have the SAME issue at the SAME time? Hmm, doesn't sound very promising to me.
They are sending out a replacement for my wife's Moto Droid to see if it is a phone issue (she has been having other issues with it anyway...). If hers improves, I may send mine back, but I don't want to have to unroot, etc. Plus I like the Super-Amoled screen . When did trouble-shooting turn to "replace the hardware first" ???
Regards!
This happened to me recently as well and was fixed with a factory reset.
I am rooted with S-off, so a normal factory reset via Menu->Settings->SD & Phone Storage-> Factory Data Reset didn't go well for me. Not sure of the exact reason, but I just followed the instructions in this post to restore: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786436
Programming your phone by dialing *228 is necessary afterwards as well, as khukman states below. Thanks for pointing that out.
After I completed this, I redid root, restored my nandroid backup and didn't lose a thing, plus my 3G is working again!
*A fair warning: Doing this formats the internal storage (emmc). I'd recommend backing up any photos, music, etc that you have stored on emmc before doing this!

So I tried the above suggestion about going back to completely stock 2.2 and I have the same results. On one hand, I am now back to S-ON and stock Froyo, so if I want to send it back to Verizon, they are none the wiser that I was rooted, but on the other hand I STILL HAVE CRAPPY 3G SERVICE!!! Man, I feel like I'm on AT&T or something LOL! I'll keep an eye on it for the rest of the day and see how it does and report back.
Back in 3G!!!!!
After getting back to stock Froyo, as described in the previous post, I was still unable to get a good 3G lock. I read in another thread where someone did a 'Factory Data Reset' and it took care of it. When you do this, you have to dial #228 and let it program your phone as it did the first time when you got it. Once I did this, I had (and still have) a solid lock on 3G like I used to. I think that it was one of the Sprint ROMs that screwed this up in the first place (the OP states that you have to backup your PRLs, etc. before installing, then re-install them afterwards). I can't remember if I did this or not, so it may be my fault after all, but regardless, I am thrilled that once again I have a connected smartphone thanks to the resources contained on XDA!
Regards!
I myself am now rocking a refurb that has no trouble at all... A complete revert to stock did absolutely nothing to resolve my trouble.
Though I didn't try doing a factory reset AFTER reinstalling the stock ROM. Hmm. Maybe there was something in the cache still. I suppose in my case I'll never really know, but I'm glad you guys were able to resolve the situation with your original hardware.

Did you follow the steps in the thread I posted above? Doing that should completely format and re-image your phone. Much more than just installing a stock ROM. I myself tried so many different variations of ROMs, radios, etc and nothing did the trick until I followed that thread.

Ok so the other day my pictures just stopped downloading all of a sudden, it was sometime after installing Google voice whether that was a coincidence or not i don't know, i have since uninstalled it since i didn't like it anyways so o well. But anyways, so after reading tons of topics on the problem. The answers i came across the most where,
it is sprints fault call them
have to be on wifi
cant be on wifi
to many messages
or go back to factory reset
and umm others i probably forgot.
All of these had varying degree of success for people suggesting them. However, Non but the factory reset worked for me. So while i am already back at the beginning i decided to update my phone to htc 3.70 or whatever it is. So after getting everything updated, i learned i could use clockwork to recover just the data part of my nand, which made me happy, but i figured it might mess up MMS again... which it did. The easy solution is to go back to factory ( or my nand before the restore of data) BUT i would really like to keep all my data. There is just so much to reset if i don't x-x. So i was wondering if anyone might know what causing the pictures not to download and if there is a way to fix it without having to lose all my data.
Oh yeah it not just downloading i can't send out picture messages either.
If all else fails i will just resort back to before the data restore and go about resetting everything the hard way just not looking forward to it.
Thanks for your time
and if i missed a thread somewhere that answers this sorry i was already banging my head against the wall at all the stuff i had already looked at.
Hmm no answer, lovely, guess it is back to the chalkboard for me.
i cant get mine working either. tried cm6 and fresh and also deleted/renamed telephony.db file and nothing.
bleh this is pissing me off

Yeah it is very frustrating.

some things ive tried that didnt work:
re-provisioning using ##3282#
full wipe and new install of fresh and cm6.1.2
deleting the telephony.db
ugh
I've been having this same problem for about a week now. It started on my Moment and continues since I got the Evo on Monday.
It's aggravating the hell out of me....
call sprint. i called sprint today, to complain, about slow speeds in the area and there was a recorded message saying they are aware of a problem with the messaging system and are working on it. that was earlier thursday 'round 9.30am est.
Just confirms what I've thought, that's it's a Sprint network issue and not a device or apk issue...
It is a sprint network problem as of lately, that is why HipKat had problems after he switched.
Btw Charlie what rom are you using and did you call sprint?
So my phone lost connectivity yesterday around 5pm. I though nothing of it at first, but then a few hours later it still was not able to connect to any mobile networks. I am unable to call, text or do anything with data for that matter. I tried the sim in my old trusty G1 and everything worked.
I called tech suppport and they refreshed my sim. I went through all of there troubleshooting non sense. The verdict? Warranty exchange...but wait....they are out of stock and have no estimated time of when they will be available.
Has anyone else heard of a phone suddenly losing all ability to get on a mobile network? I have been on the internet researching the issue for hours now and have tried everything I have come across, but no luck.
1. Left the battery and sim out of the phone overnight
2. Numerous airplane mode toggles
3. Connecting headphones
4. Phone Info menu and turning radio off/on + trying different radio settings
5. Reflashing radios
6. Flashing different roms
7. Odin back to stock 2.3.6 with wiping of everything
I am thinking I have been defeated by the galaxy s2.

Its scary how often this has happening...your probably the 5th person on xda who had this happen to them that i saw...Your efs folder probably got corrupt somehow and there is now way to restore that. You're going to need a get a warranty replacement...

I have read about that happening before, just don't know why it would have happened out of nowhere. Chalking it up as stuff happens.

I bet you were fiddling around with radios huh? I messed around flashing alternate radios to mine and my girl's phone and her phone was having this issue. Nothing would fix it, good thing I created a nandroid backup because all issues were fixed after I flashed back.

No...I wasnt doing anything to the phone. I had been running the same rom for about two weeks and was enjoying the luxury of amazing battery life.
While I was browsing the net on my phone, it lost signal...since then it hasn't returned.
I did do a warranty exchange so hopefully I will have a working device soon.

My old galaxy s2 never did gain the ability to reconnect to the network...so strange. Happened on its own.
Hello,
I have a Galaxy Nexus with the stock ROM. Rooted running 4.0.2. I had Market Enabler running to switch to the T-Mobile Network. This setup had been working fine for a couple of weeks now. All of a sudden today, after I visited the Google Play store online for some reason I can now no longer make phone calls!
Market Enabler will not load any longer at all. It doesn't force close, I just get a blank screen. I tried removing it's root permissions. Then clearing the cache and deleting it but no good. I tried reinstalling it, no good.
Anyone have any ideas? I've tried rebooting the phone a couple of times and no help either!
I've tried restoring from backup using the Rom Manager to the original and still doesn't work!
I'm kinda bumping so that I get help!
phone calls are not related to market enabler..
what else u did on ur phone? we need other infos
sms works?
ur phone show signal?
3g works?

Thanks for replying. Nothing works, no SMS, no 3G. Wifi does, but nothing related to the "sim". The network signal comes and goes, but I can't do anything related to it.
If u go in settings - info about ur phone, can u see ur baseband radio info or there is some "unknown" ?
That would mean ur efs partition get corrupted probably, which is not good sometimes

got an old phone to test your SIM?
Rooted&Unlocked Nexus can't make calls or SMS; connects to internet ok from network
I'm having a similar problem. Got the nexus from a friend and tried to activate it on my phone line and the Verizon tech reps say it looks like the activation is "stuck at the switch". Checked the ESN (clean), checked authenticity (ok), not on a lost/stolen list... can't figure out what the issue is.
Any suggestions? this has been pretty frustrating...
A bit of background:
- Did a factory data reset (wiped devlik, data, cache)
- Getting 4G signal; can connect to the internet/sync data
- 3 new SIM cards attempted in the past 3 days; currently on 1 for the past day
- Tried *228, updated roaming; can't activate phone (says call a rep)
Try a factory reset. A friend of mine had an issue about making phone calls on his Galaxy S II and a few reboots made the phone talk again.
Alternatively, shut down the phone, pull battery for a few hours. Put battery back in phone, boot up. Sometimes things get a little FUBAR'd and battery pulls can solve some problems.
still not working...
Looks like things went through the verizon switch....but still can't call or text.
Would unrooting fix it? Did a factory reset again and pulled battery and sim... unfortunately no change
Hello all!
I am having constant data issues all day where I go to use an app that needs it, it says that no data connection can be found or something. I turn the radio off, turn it back on and then it works. It's a good work-around but it does get very annoying. I've tried multiple 4.4.2 roms but no avail. I tried a different kernel but I couldn't even use the phone. Any ideas?
Same for me; I'm rooted now but it happened before root and after the JB ota updates. Annoying but otherwise I love this phone
I think this has been a known issue since ICS (I could be wrong though).
If anyone knows a fix that would be cool (I have GSM google play gnex)
My issues started late last night, lost data connection and it didn't come back. On my way home, it connected then lost again at home. Went to Verizon today and they couldn't figure it out, said possibly the radio is taking a crap.
On my way to work, it connects then gone. I tried flashing the radio, pulled battery, booted without sim, formatted cache and delvic. I have tried everything and think it's the end of the line for it
I've been rooted since the day I got it and had the issue once a while back but it straightened out and has been great since.
Certain CyanogenMod ROMs have trouble with the Network Modes sticking. Which carrier are you using? For my carrier, I had to have the correct APNs set to get 4G and MMS working. It might be that this is the problem in most cases, especially when the phone switches between 4G and 3G in spotty areas.
