So this is my main forum that I check Evo news... but I am always afraid to ask a question because someone could tell me that my question is silly and to do a forum search before I ask. I also noticed most of the questions I would like to ask are my more Android than Evo question.
So my question is... is there an Android forum people could recommend that is Newbie friendly, and good to Evo people? I figured I would ask here as there are so many Android forums and, if you point me in the right direction, I will never have to bother you will the my stupid questions.
Androidcentral.com is my favorite been going there since my G1 days great people and very helpful.
Uh, just do a search, and if you can't find an answer, ask. #HTC-EVO on Freenode is a good place to get some help, and Google and Wikipedia can be useful too.
Sprint Android Forum
I'm a moderator over at SprintDroids.com. Our forum is geared specifically towards Android phones on the Sprint network. Currently we have about 1200 registered users and we get more and more every day. We are very newbie friendly, and everybody there is very eager to help out any way they can. Sign up, post a welcome thread, I'm sure you'll enjoy it over there. My s/n is MetalHead there as well (except w/o the underscores) so don't forget to say hi if you sign up. Hope to see you over there

Yeah, best and possibly the largest general Android forum. You can also try the Evo section of PPC forums.
XDA is indeed really hostile toward 'newbies', but has the most information/hacks/roms/themes by far.
Hey i see here and there, some of the seniors are welcoming new members a.k.a Noobs in bitter and dis-respectful manner. Stop doing so, all we need is some patience. Remember that once, we were also noobs. All we need is, teach new members, the WAY of APPROACH to solve their queries and problem.
And request to new members:
Before posting ur problem or query kindly GOOGLE search which even searches XDA, if u dont find the thing which u need than Search in XDA, search at XDA will mostly solve ur problem, since one or the other user might have gone through the same problem and he/she might have overcome through it. but still, if u dont get, then post it. And lets(includes me ) try to make a habit of reading the whole thread before posting it.
Cmmon 3 Cheers.
Cheers to XDA, Cheers to Galaxy Ace Devs, Cheers to Galaxy ace members.

Yes , you make a point , but newcomers are different from noobs .
Newcomers: Are polite and new people who know a little before posting
Noobs: Are rude and people who don't bother to learn anything before posting .
Infused with CM7 for the Galaxy Ace using XDA App
I agree to the Topic Maker
But still there are some noobs who are just posting likely new topics before searching (U might Include me)
M sorry for that ... But There should some basic Q/A Thread ... in that ANY TYPE of Galaxy ACE question can be asked ....
might one help another
Any type? Flood the forum with a million of the same small problems with same solutions?
Every time you don't do a search before you post, a penguin is killed.
Newcomers are okay. Senior members are more or less polite but will not hesitate to lash out at disrespectful members. That's what they deserve. It's not about being new or not. In xda, you either be a developer, or be a learning user. Not beggars nor trolls.

Agreed!
I think they are not confident what they are doing so they might like to hear the same answer from different user which might give sme courage to move on, but it some time become irritating.
Totally agree with the author of the thread.. We shouldn't be treated like this (newcomers) anyways I am not a noob im just a newly registered member but I am familiar with the ROMS and modification of smartphones.
I will happily answer a question that isn't in the first post or last 3 pages. If the question has been answered recently or many times I will tell them to search.
That's nothing unique to XDA, that's just standard forum etiquette across the internet.

Yes, you, no we, should be.. Its brought on to you by yourself, coming in and asking lot of questions, getting mad because you dont understand the answer that was given etc etc.. Seniors does not dislike or disrespect any newcomer just for the fact that they are new.
Mostly people know their way around any forum but some dont...
Respect is not a one way street
Hello, guys. I'm alvaroag, the recently appointed moderator for the HTC Artemis.
I don't really know much about this device, as I'm addicted to Sony Ericsson(now Sony) phones, but I'll do my best keeping this forums clean for everyone.
Don't hesitate to contact me regarding this forum other problems here at XDA.
Regards,
Alvaro

Applications for moderator are currently closed, but if you are interested go here and read everything all the way down to the bottom.
No offense dude, but you can't just join a forum, make 30 posts and ask to be moderator of a site for 4.5 million users.

I totally agree. Even if applications were open to become a moderator, I wouldn't even think about applying simply because I've only been here a few months and know that I wouldn't get accepted.

I mean, if you've been helpful by all means apply. But it's really hard to judge the quality of someone's posts by just 30 of them. People joining to become mods is common with very small forums where the admin will put up a thread saying, "APPLY HERE TO BE A MOD" to attract users. But not on a site like this. This is the most professional (by size and internet standing) forum I've been a part of. Personally, I have moderator experience but I wouldn't bother applying because I have a tendency to not sugar-coat things when a person is wrong. I'm calm and concise but for example, I have absolutely no patience for Marketplace scammers.
But anyways, I digress. Before you think of applying for a moderator position, make sure you have posts to back it up. And if you feel the need to post differently than you normally would just to become a moderator, don't bother applying because you can be demoted if you abuse your powers and talk down to people.

Yeah definitely. I totally agree, especially with the bit I've bolded. Even if I felt, at a later stage, that I was ready to apply for said position, I probably wouldn't be approved anyway. But to be perfectly honest, I'm more than happy just to be able to be a part of this great community and obviously I'll always continue to help out others when I can, regardless.

From experience, being a mod is cool at first, but having to deal with tons of reported posts becomes tedious. You would think being a moderator is better than being a regular user, but the truth is moderators are restricted in what they can say and what they can do. So I can call another user a douchebag, but if a moderator did that he'd put his position in danger. I can sell in the Marketplace, but a moderator (I think) can not.

You registered today.
This is your first post.
Guess no one knows you here.
And spamming for getting 10 posts by moaning about them isn't going to help you.
If you have been playing with your phone for a year, I am sure you can help people in your device's Q&A section.
Reported.

In response to your query
People more than likely do know me here, but this was my first post.
No, i wasnt spamming, i was just knocking out one of ten posts by introducing myself
My device doesent have a Q&A section that im aware of, because it is for MetroPCS.... which does not get much dev support by XDA, cuz its a pay as you go....but has much potential. (some of the supporters are PlayfulGod, Ldrifta, and myself.)
"ATTENTION MODERATORS and Community"! I apologize if i have made a bad impression, im over it.
Yep, if you're completely serious about devving and sharing your work then I'd edit the above post if I were you. In general mods don't care much who you are, if you're breaking the rules consistently or being rude then they will ban you. Check out this thread, it's an example of a dev who was calling people fags and was banned for life (well, a story about said dev at least). As for the reply to your post, the reason it may have seemed rude is because there are a billion threads with people spamming for 10 posts every day so it was fairly reasonable for him to assume you were one of them. If you really are a dev then you probably won't even need a device specific Q&A, just answer questions in the general Q&A.

True, but it stops people from reporting him. May as well give him a chance, it's not right to judge people based solely on two posts. I did that once to some guy who didn't search before posting, he's now an RC with about 5 ROMs and over 1000 thanks.
Alright there gentlemen.... lets start over
