Need help with rom manger phone model choice - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Ok heres the issue that doenst make sense?
I have my epic touch prerooted with the zedomax wpic v3 1.6oc kernel, which roots the device and installs cwm recovery.
How am i suppose to use rom manager when it wants u to choose a phone model to flash cwm recovery through rom manager when its already flashed with the tar file
i choose epic touch but has a bunch of gt 1900 phone models, then it goes to a black screen and dumps everything and i have to pull battery and restart
So is rom manager useless with this kernel

redownload rom manager and u will see epic touch on there too now.
only kernel that rom manager works with this kernel from chris 41g. this is pure stock with cwm 5.0.2.7

I was having some weird issue too. What I did was flash the kernel to gain root access. Afterwards I flashed CWM using Odin, since it wasn't flashing using ROM manager. I kinda lost the root after that though. So I just flashed the kernel again and I had root again with CWM.
Apparently the kernel wasn't flashing a recovery at all and ROM manager wasn't flashing CWM to my phone. It was saying it flashed, but I always had stock recovery.
So I just:
Odin and flashed kernel for root
Odin and flashed CWM
Lost root? So Odin Kernel again.
Now have CWM and root.

you have somethings confused, I think.. recovery and the kernel are one in the same.. so if the kernel has cwm you do, if it doesnt you dont... you cant flash cwm by itself, then a kernel ontop and have both..

Clockwork recovery problem

I rooted my epic 4g with a one-click root and it installed clockwork recovery 2.5.1.0 but on rom manager it tells me I have version 3.0.2.4, I even flash the recovery from rom manager multiple times and I can boot into clockwork 3.0.2.4 from rom manager but when I turn off my phone and hold volume down, camera button and power it just boots me into 2.5.1.0 and I feel like this might mess up something when I flash a rom? Any help?

I wonder if you didnt Partition and have RFS and EXT4 formats down and there have been many complaints about ROM manager
ok fyi you should post this in q&a
so with that being said rom manager dose nothing for us but cause issues i would oden back to stock and follow the insturctuions for the oneclick root for ext4 if you do that it will flash u with the correct clock work as well as get you on ext4
Moved to Q&A.

if you flash through cwm you wont have that issue... rom mananger works different... in fact i dont use rom manager for that same reason
ROM manager flashes a temporary CWM. To get it permanant* you have to download the full recovery.zip and flash it.

choose the one named "StockCWM-EL26.tar.md5"

RE-CALKED Installation question

Source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1815854
My Phone: FF18-AUTO Root Via ODIC-OC
The installation directions state: "Odin to EL26 stock repack with CWM". Does that mean I just use the ODIN tool and load the file into the program then execute before I install the ROM?
Thanks!

Either get mobile Odin and the el26 kernel.tar and flash it via phone. Or get the one click el29 flash the el26 kernel threw PC Odin and flash the rom threw cwm5 included in the el26 kernel. Look up qbking27 how to videos and follow them for the best results.

Okay so I download and run the ODIN-OC Auto Root to EL29 using --> 'http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101&highlight=el29'
Then once I have done that launch the 'ODIN3_v1.85' utility and load the file that was mentioned on the RE-CALKED page --> 'Odin to EL26 stock repack with CWM found here'
Then just use CWM to flash via SDCard?
OR do I install that file using CWM then install the format all and ROM?
You should be able to do it with el29 as long as you have cwm5 recovery. Odin el26 kernel is the preferred method by most devs. do to a lot of issues that have been worked out in the previous months. As long as you have cwm5 on a gb based rom or gb stock with root you should be fine. But I recommend that you watch some videos by qbking27 and read the op in every rom thread that you have interest in. Devs prefer certain styles of install so I'd go by that. Most of the time qbking has a video install guide in the op of the rom. Like you want calks revamped. Look up calks 1.6 and watch that video guide.

I cannot seem to find out how to install CWM recovery onto my stock rooted EL29. I went through the rooting process, but didnt install CWM. How can i install CWM onto my EL29 rooted phone. I dont want to install any custom ROMs at this time, just want to be able to to backups, etc, using CWM,
Thanks for the help!

Stuck at "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue" screen.

Trying to update my old E4GT to KitKat (CM11) for use as an MP3 player. I believe it was on OI23 before. I tried EL26 CWM, Agat, and finally attempted installing Philz Touch before it gave up this screen. Kies cannot connect to it, even after making sure proper drivers are installed and doing the connection troubleshooter.
Am I screwed? Did I encounter the infamous "superbrick"?

You should still be able to flash stock firmware via Odin in that state. Connect it and flash, provided that the battery is charged.

Ok I've gotten ODIN to recognize it again. Now how can I get to CM11? My biggest problem is finding a recovery that will work to flash it.
Here is a stock rooted ROM for d710 with CWM included in it, flash it via Odin and you'll be restored, rooted and have CWM.
http://www.rwilco12.com/downloads.php?dir=Files/Devices/Samsung%20Galaxy%20S2%20%28Sprint%29%20%28SPH-D710%29/Stock%20ROMs/GB/EL29/No%20Data%20Restore/Rooted
Then you'll need to flash an ICS modem or you won't be able to use Kit Kat custom ROMS(CM11), it is a .zip to be flashed in recovery the way a ROM is. Scroll to the bottom of the list and grab the last one. Flash it in recovery.
http://www.rwilco12.com/downloads.p... Galaxy S2 (Sprint) (SPH-D710)/Modems/ICS/ZIP
Then you'll need to find a 4.3 custom ROM to flash to update the devices partition structure before flashing a 4.4+(CM11) ROM. The trick is going to be finding 4.3 and 4.4 ROMs, they are old ROMs and may not be available for download anymore. I'm trying to get the CWM that I used uploaded so you can use it, it flashed all of my 4.4 - 4.4.4 ROMs. I flashed everything with it. It's CWM 5.0.2.7 for sph-d710.

You flashed the file I linked? It is supposed to have CWM packaged with it. Go to rwilco12's android repository, at the top of the page you'll see a downloads tab. Click it then select the options on that menu until you get to Galaxy S2>Sprint SPH-D710>kernels and you'll find the Odin flashable recoveries for E4GT.

I had an AGAT GB27 v1.3 from rwilco that I flashed to get a custom recovery, just flashed the FL24 modem with it. So I have EL29 software with FL24 modem. Ready to flash something newer now.
EDIT: And now it doesn't boot.

To get to Kit Kat, you've got to flash a 4.3 ROM then flash a 4.4 ROM. I'm not sure where you'll find one or if their are any available anymore.
There is CWM 5 or CWM 6 at rwilcos repository, its probably better than Agats

I have a CWM 5.0.2.7 in zip that I'm trying to upload to my Android File Host for you but its giving me issues uploading. I'll find a place to put it so you can get it, then flash it in Agat recovery.
Flash Agat recovery again, then flash the CWM I give you in Agat, then go back to main menu and find the "reboot recovery" option somewhere, I can't remember where its at in Agat, reboot recovery will boot you into the new recovery, do not boot to system then boot to recovery, it will revert to Agat and you'll have to flash CWM again and boot to it correctly to keep it.
