Clockwork recovery problem - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I rooted my epic 4g with a one-click root and it installed clockwork recovery 2.5.1.0 but on rom manager it tells me I have version 3.0.2.4, I even flash the recovery from rom manager multiple times and I can boot into clockwork 3.0.2.4 from rom manager but when I turn off my phone and hold volume down, camera button and power it just boots me into 2.5.1.0 and I feel like this might mess up something when I flash a rom? Any help?

I wonder if you didnt Partition and have RFS and EXT4 formats down and there have been many complaints about ROM manager

ok fyi you should post this in q&a
so with that being said rom manager dose nothing for us but cause issues i would oden back to stock and follow the insturctuions for the oneclick root for ext4 if you do that it will flash u with the correct clock work as well as get you on ext4

Rom Manager showing CWM 3.0.0.5

What's up with the new version of ClockworkMod? Anyone know why or what its about? Any fixes? Or is this the new (required) CWM version because of CM7?

Just an updated version, I have had no problems using it. Been out for a little bit now.
I could not flash to the update for MIUI with the CWM update (which was orange once booted to recovery ) there is an option to go back to an older version

Over in the Mytouch4g threads there is a new version 3.0.0.6 which will be backwards compatible with both Edify and Amend scripts.

ROM Manager Premium v3.0.0.7 is the version of the ROM Manager app itself, Clockworkmod Mod is still at 3.0.0.5.
is there something wrong with it for you? Im not having any problems.
why they doesn't insert the 3.0.0.5 version inside the app? they're still at 2.7.0.5

I used ROM Manager to switch from Amon's Recovery to Clockwork so that I can utilize ROM Manager. Bought the premium version for the nightlies (yeah I'm that lazy), however, it looks like I don't have a recovery now. Anytime I try to boot to recovery, I end up at the bootloader. I select recovery from the bootloader and I'm back to the bootloader.
Any thoughts?

I never use Rom Manager, I like to do everything manually - less room for error. Plus I'm using Amon Ra, so I couldn't use it anyway. I've heard of some people having issues flashing recoveries from Rom Manager. You'll need to get a PC36IMG.zip of the recovery you want (I have CWM & AR in my dropbox, I'll link you to them) and put it on the root of your SD. Don't rename it. Boot into bootloader, wait a second and it'll ask you to update. Choose yes with the volume up button. When it finishes, you should have your recovery.

When you get to the bootloader, it should search for PC36IMG.zip and then put you in a menu with ~5 options, one of them is recovery. Use the volume button to get to that, press power to select. It will reboot to the white screen, then load into the recovery.
If that doesn't work you may have a buggered up recovery. If you can boot the phone the first thing to try would be to open ROM Manager and try to re-flash Clockwork Recovery or hit "Flash Alternate Recovery" to install Amon's RA Recovery.
If you can't boot the phone, then you will need to do stuff from adb or fastboot.
EDIT:
If you can boot the phone, you may want to try installing through ROM Manager, but otherwise plainjane's idea is probably way better than messing with ADB or Fastboot if you aren't used to them.

I have my epic touch prerooted with the zedomax wpic v3 1.6oc kernel, which roots the device and installs cwm recovery.
How am i suppose to use rom manager when it wants u to choose a phone model to flash cwm recovery through rom manager when its already flashed with the tar file
i choose epic touch but has a bunch of gt 1900 phone models, then it goes to a black screen and dumps everything and i have to pull battery and restart

redownload rom manager and u will see epic touch on there too now.
only kernel that rom manager works with this kernel from chris 41g. this is pure stock with cwm 5.0.2.7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1305099
I was having some weird issue too. What I did was flash the kernel to gain root access. Afterwards I flashed CWM using Odin, since it wasn't flashing using ROM manager. I kinda lost the root after that though. So I just flashed the kernel again and I had root again with CWM.
Apparently the kernel wasn't flashing a recovery at all and ROM manager wasn't flashing CWM to my phone. It was saying it flashed, but I always had stock recovery.
So I just:
Odin and flashed kernel for root
Odin and flashed CWM
Lost root? So Odin Kernel again.
Now have CWM and root.

you have somethings confused, I think.. recovery and the kernel are one in the same.. so if the kernel has cwm you do, if it doesnt you dont... you cant flash cwm by itself, then a kernel ontop and have both..

if you flash through cwm you wont have that issue... rom mananger works different... in fact i dont use rom manager for that same reason
ROM manager flashes a temporary CWM. To get it permanant* you have to download the full recovery.zip and flash it.

No 'su' after following AndroidCentral EI22 Rooting Instructions w/ Odin??

No su access, no root.
This was the tutorial I followed:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/ep...95-rooting-ei22-gingerbread-instructions.html
I saw Chris41G's download site had a 'epic4g' version of the ACS recovery. Do I need this instead? What am I doing wrong? No su icon, no 'su' access in ConnectBot, no Android Wifi Tether. Odin worked fine.
Not sure what that procedure says to do but you would Odin in clockworkmod recovery 5.0.2.7, with reboot unchecked. Pull battery when done, put back in and boot right into CWM with 3 finger salute and flash a prerooted custom ROM of your choice from Development.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I had the same problem when rooting stock EI22. I flashed ACS recovery 1.0.0.5 (or whatever it was) and then first tried to flash the su binaries which worked but I was unable to maintain root access. Anyway, long story short, I flashed the CleanGB kernel w/ root from recovery and that worked perfectly. That also made ACS Recovery (CWM) stick on reboots.
Final procedure I used:
1) Boot phone into download mode (pwr + 1)
2) Flash ACS Recovery .tar file (uncheck everything)
3) After flashing, pull battery, pull USB (phone turns off)
4) power on into recovery (pwr + vol down + camera)
5) Install zip SD card. Choose cleanGB kernel.
6) Reboot and enjoy rooted EI22.

is this considered a 'CleanGB'?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4D0D1Qb7e4&feature=relmfu
No, that is Legendary ROM. I was just saying to flash the kernel and keep the stock 'ROM'. CleanGB is another ROM but the dev has separated out the kernel so it can be flashed separetly. This will maintain all your data (not cache or dalvic).

Gnex and touch CWM

Has anyone tried the touch recovery flashed by ROM manager on their Nexus and are there any bugs with it? I am abit gun shy with ROM manager flashing anything on anything till I hear others have done it and what happened.
I can confirm it works perfectly, at least with regular flashing tasks and it's definitely more convenient than using the volume and power buttons
why not just fastboot flash it yourself so then you dont have to have rom manager flash it?
also, i like it alot.
I flashed CWM touch using the galaxy nexus toolkit and its been working fine for me.. I have already used it for a nandroid backup and flashed several radios with the touch version
Works perfectly. Don't worry about issues
I love it, no issues with it. Flash it with Rom Manager but that's where I'd stop with RM. Probably best to do all the flashing manually.

The touch version works just fine, though I've recently switched to TWRP: http://teamw.in/project/twrp2 - integrates nicely with goo.im
I personally wouldn't flash it with rom manager myself as flashing in fastboot is dead simple anyways. I use the one from development section and it works great for everything I have done with it.
I flashed CWM touch using the galaxy nexus toolkit and manually using fastboot. Both methods seem to work, but Rom manager still shows current recovery as CWM 5.5.0.4 after phone reboot. Any idea what am I doing wrong ??
