I know this problem has been posted lots of times but I am really confused.
I followed this guide
http://www.techofweb.com/technology/root-sony-ericsson-xperia-play.html
to root my phone but now my sim card will not work in the phone
I read this thread but got totally confused
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1266843
I am guessing from this thread I need to lock the boot loader but when I open X10FlashTool.exe it says
ERROR - Cannot identify your device. Found R800 while expecting X10, E10, U20 or E15 (read from ro.product.model from build.prop)
Please help me get my xperia play rooted and updated with my sim card working.
Make sure you're using flashtool beta version - 0.2.9.1 (afaik it's the only one to support the play).
Use these steps in the link (only if you have a R800i, if you have another model you need to find a .ftf file that matches your phone and then just do the other steps):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17747422&postcount=45
And there's no need for locking your bootloader for this, only if you intend to update OTA later on then you need to lock it after diong this. An update OTA or through SEUS or Pc Companion will brick it when you have an unlocked bootloader. So either disable auto update or relock bootloader
Regards Dousan...
e: if the first link is not enough take a look at this thread here, it should contain all you need to know on the matter of rooting/flashing etc. the play
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1294129
Thank you for your reply. I can confirm in my phone it says model number r800i under settings about phone. So if I follow the steps in
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17747422&postcount=45
It will update my phone to 2.3.4 and it will be able to access my sim card again?
Then turn off auto update to avoid brickage?

That is correct on both cases. You should get your signal back when flashing the ftf file (that's just stock SE FW)
Regards Dousan...
Nice glad I'm not doomed just a couple of questions though
1. Download the new FW.
2. Download CWM.
done
3. Download rootxperia.zip
where can I get this?
(sorry my bad found it) its on the same page as the CWM (ClockWorkMod)
also
(nordic version)
will I be able to change this to English?
ok kinda stuck at
6. Flash new FW with flashtool and boot and enable debugging and unknown sources and do setup (when you're at it download TB from market).
I downloaded
Download FlashTool version 0.2.9.1 Beta :
http://www.multiupload.com/7H4JT35B6G (MD5: 4C370DDC5B6D40F96CA00D856019B19F)
from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
But the only options I have are X10, x10 Mini. X10 Mini Pro, X8 and Arc. When I click cancel I get this
09/011/2011 02:11:23 - INFO - <- This level is successfully initialized
09/011/2011 02:11:28 - ERROR - Cannot identify your device. Found R800 while expecting X10, E10, U20 or E15 (read from ro.product.model from build.prop)

09/012/2011 02:12:05 - ERROR - Unplug and replug your device to detect it
Am I doing something wrong or do I need to do something else to proceed.
I managed to figure out that I need to put R800i_4.0.1.A.0.283_(1247-6212).ftf in the flashtool firmwares folder.
Then it asks me to turn off the phone and hold the back button then plug the usb cable in.
I was getting errors about missing drivers and read somewhere to install ggsetup-2.2.0.10.exe from the drivers folder in the flashtool files.
The problem is now when I try to connect the phone when holding the back button my pc crashes.
Do I need a specific driver for this or is it a problem with my pc or phone?
If you installed the ggsetup.exe you should have all the drivers needed. Don't know what causes your pc to crash mate, haven't seen that before.
If you have another pc/laptop try it on that or you might try to reinstall ggsetup.exe.
Regards Dousan...
There was some kind of problem with my desktop I guess so I tried on my laptop and it went fine sim card started working again as soon as I turned the phone on again.
When it came to the fastboot part that didn't work on my laptop so I tried on my desktop and it worked fine.
I've ended up with a rooted xperia play on 2.3.4 so I thank you so so much for taking me from what I thought was a bricked phone to a fully amazing updated and rooted one

Use flashtool to re-flash your firmware or an other firmware.
Using Flashtool to recover phone
Well, you need to power off your phone (pull the battery if you have to).
Then go to this thread to find yourself a "stock rom": -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1653188
The one ROM that's a good start is called "[ICS]Official Sony ICS 4.1.A.0.562 NCB Generic + ROOT", and you get it on this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1598072
Download the rom (file with a "ftf") extension, and then flash it using Flashtool in "Flash Mode".
Flashtool will tell you how to turn on your phone (I think you have to hold down the "Menu" button, and then plug in your USB cable).
When you do this the ROM should be flashed to your phone.
Wait for the flashing to be finished before you unplug the USB cable and trying to reboot your phone.
This should restore your phone to working order..
Good luck.

Hey buddy the Flashtool is bugfree is never wrong. If it asks for you to install the drivers DO IT and I dont believe if you installed them correctly. In order to install the drivers correctly go into your flashtool in your C drive and find a folder called Drivers. There is a .exe and you must accept all the permissions.

I tried the generic UK, but I`m not from UK.. there isn`t anyone there that is to my location (IL)..
I was having the same problem. So, I just install Dixperia 2. Good speed, Xperia game launcher, playstation pocket, full touchpad and controls...
Highly recommended.

If your friend is not the kind of person who likes to overclock and modify her phone, just install everything in stock with the 42 firmware (that is easily rooted in case she need to root).
1. Download and install Flashtool. http://androxyde.github.com/
2. Go to the folder where you installed Flashtool, look for the drivers folder and install the file "Flashtool-drivers.exe". Select the Xperia Play drivers.
3. Now open Flashtool, unzip and flash this firmware (R800_4.0.2.A.0.42) http://www.mediafire.com/?qqi99r1z592iges
4. Now just wait and restart your phone.
Hi so all these on the computer? Cos the phone just keep restarting on its own..haha..okay will try later! Yeah she just wanna get it working.can skip the root etc for now.

Yo don't need the recovery for this.
Turn off the phone. (If you can't turn it off, remove the battery). Go to flashtool and search for the firmware you just download. Flashtool will tell you when and how you have to connect the phone. You don't need to do anything else but follow the flashtool instructions.
If she just want her phone working you just need to flash the firmware and thats all. The recovery is used for installing custom ROM and other mod's
If you don't really know how to use flashtool, probably you could search for a Flashtool step by step video on youtube.
On my Xperia Arc the issue with rebooting over and over with just the Sony Ericcson name showing was a bad battery. They are cheap enough, just order a new one off Ebay.
sorry for my bad english first..
at first,I using Sony PC Companion 2.1 to update my phone, but the pcc download firmware too slow..
so I open FlashTool(0.9.20.0) and open XperiFirm to download the firmware and wait the firmware download and FTF created successful,I start flash my phone in flashmode.
I remember flashtool ask me "use FSC script",but I select no(I don't know what FSC is used to do,so I select no.).
after while the flashtool process is stuck..and after 30min,I unplug the USB cable and prepare to flash again, but when I connect the phone to computer again, the computer can't Identify my phone, the Flashtool said "For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode" when I connect to computer..:crying:
and the windows device manager only can recognize my phone in a USB serial device, the VID 0FCE,Pid D1D5.no SOMC FLash Device any more..
the picture in attachments shows what i said.
i just use the phone for one week and the phone have no warranty..:crying:
anyone help please.. @Androxyde
You have bricked you phone as many others did,the lession is u have to read and re-read and do the steps exactly as described, you had to click YES on FSC.As far as i know there is no other way to fix it except sending it to service center.Sorry in the future read carefully the tutorials...

You should have read the instructions...
Flashing the remaining FTF contents with FlashTool
At this stage, your device have the system partition with full root access of the firmware from the FTF you used but still have the kernel, baseband, etc., from the previous firmware you were running on your phone, so, trying to start your device now will probably result in a boot loop. To correct this:
• Open FlashTool again and flash the same FTF you used to extract system.ext4 through flash mode, however, make sure you exclude SYSTEM partition. If you forget to do so, you'll lose root access and you'll need to restart from the beginning.
• Make sure that you're using FlashTool 0.9.20 or newer and answer Yes when it asks if you want to use the .fsc script!Using an older version or not using the provided .fsc script will hard brick your Xperia M5 and only Service Center will be able to repair it.
• After flashing ends, disconnect the USB cable and start your phone. The first boot may take several minutes but if everything went well you should be now running the same firmware from the FTF file you used, with full root access!

Yeah the difference is that M5 just started to be supported by flashtool,in other words it's a new phone and with a little more complex cpu in compare with Z1,i had Xperia Arc never had problems with flashtool but since i bought M5 i'm extra careful 'cause i had mediatek smartphones before and they are pain in the ass when comes to rooting, flashing and others. So you might still look around to try and fix it by yourself,if not try sending it to service center if they ask say it failed during xperia companion update or repair don't say you used flashtool...Good luck

There's no fix. Only Service Center can repair it if you bricked your device by using Flash Tool without the provided .fsc script.
any1 solved this? I have the same problem =(
Only fix is to desolder emmc and reprogram boot sectors using jtag box. That will bring flash mode back. If you have Sony Service Center in your country and your phone is under warranty (you didn't unlock your bootloader), then maybe there is a chance they will repair it without charge.

Someone should make bin and scatter files to be flashed with SP Flash Tool as any other MTK device to be able to flash it from the dead state, at least if it is recognized as COM device. The good start would be if someone can pull the scatter file from a working device and share with others. Now we have ftf file. Maybe there is some way to convert it to bin file.

I don't know if you know how to flash ftf but try this:
1. start flashtool
2. begin flash ftf file for your M5
3. hold volume down and connect usb cable
4. press power button (hold both volume down + power)
5. when phone vibrates release power button (still hold volume)
or
3*. connect cable before holding volume down
then reset phone
tell me if something happen
*facepalms*
But maybe not cuz unknown devices now

And i will test it with ur idea thz
less talking, more reading. these recommendations are nice but useless if you read all the threads with bricked devices. especially what are the symptoms of a bricked device.
the only thing that i am optimistic to is this scatter file "solution". but if it is working we should find out. would be cool if someone can provide a scatter file for E5603 and/or other variants.
