Hi xda`s,
Im a bit confused. Which RIL is included in CM 7.1.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297545) and whats the corresponding Radio? Im using the latest LordmodUE CFS Kernel btw.
Ive read so many different opinions on radios to flash. So id like to have everything matching. Im coming from ARHD 6.1.3. The latest radio should be flashed on my phone.
Thx in advance.

I think it's 2.2.1003G, but I'm not running pure cm7 at the minute so can't guarantee (it is the default in the ROM I'm using, and it works fine with the latest radio).
Edit: I've just noticed in another post I'd replied to from someone who was using a RC of cm7.1 that he had 2.2.0018G after flashing, so it's going to be one of those two (depending on whether it was updated for the final release).
Edit2: If you're already running cm7 just check yourself what you've got:

Ah great, thx.
Just found out that its 2.2.0018g. My current radio is 26.10.04.03_M.
Cant find a suggestion if that fits. Is someone into it?
Edit: I just found that I have to flash radio 12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19_M. Can this be done with cwm too? I read that theres a way. But is it safe or is there an easier way? I use an Mac btw and DONT have eng s-off.
Why do you "have to" flash that radio?
If you've got Radio S-OFF, you can download the radio you need from this thread, copy the file to the root of your SD Card (making sure it's named PD98IMG.zip and nothing else), check the md5 of the file after you've copied it to your card (to make sure it's not corrupted or anything), then reboot to the bootloader; it should scan your card, find the file and ask if you want to update. Click yes and you're away.
Other than that your only options are to flash using adb or fastboot, and you'd need ENG S-OFF for those to work.
It worked well thx man. No expensive brick^^
I have a similar question regarding RILs and AOSP roms.
I'm new to AOSP, but in sense there is generally one RIL per radio, and choosing it is easy ( Just flash the RIL after the ROM )
I've been searching around for a similar system for AOSP roms, but it seems as though it's not quite as cut and dry for AOSP. I know that the RILs are different and generally have G in the filename.
Is there an easy way to check which RIL i should use for my Radio on my current rom (blackice)
My radio is 12.56.60.25U_26.10.04.03_M and I'm not sure which G RIL to use. Any help anyone can offer is appreciated.
Use whichever one gives you the best performance. There's not one that you "should" use (they're all as good as each other IMO), but if you're having signal/connection/drain issues with the one you're using try another one. If not, I wouldn't bother.
If you must try, you easily can switch between the four available RILs in ICETool.

Thank you for the quick reply and the info. I thought that it might work that way for aosp but this information is great to confirm it.

Hi all.
Last night I was reading thread regarding GingerVillain 2.1 and some people were saying something about new ril and drivers with it. Apparently that help them with signal strenght and such. My question is if I can use it with any Tom out there or just with the GV2.1? I am currently trying reduce 1.2 with latest radio 3.54.
Thanks in advance for any replays.

ok firstly, neither your radio nor your recovery are the latest so if you are having signal issues i would recommend trying new radio first. there is a seperate topic named 'new bravo radio' search for it - its radio extracted from leaked bravo gingerbread RUU.
now about RILs. these are (i think) android-drivers corresponding to radio-drivers. RIL is stored in ROM, so if you wipe or install new ROM, RIL you flashed will be gone unless you re-flash it (from recovery). Every official RUU big-update contains (usually) new radio and it's RIL. however, it doesnt neccesairly work in a way that once you flashed a radio, the RIL that came with it will improve things. turns out that for various devices on various networks running various ROMs things may differ. thats why in the end some ppl are using even nexus one RIL on desire.
so if you flash RIL that someone said to work well on this rom with this radio version it could be not the case for you. but you can try diffrent RILs until you found one that works fine for you. personally as long as my desire performs just fine i dont see a point to experiment with RILs.
That was an amazing explanation!
Main reason I would look to change my radio with ril would be to benefit my signal. Sometimes I am loosing a signal (even wifi) for about few seconds and than it reestablishes itself again. I will definitely loo for new radio flash that and than see what's happening.
Thanks again.

Hi,
I just flashed a 2.3.3 stock-rooted ROM and well, as everyone is saying, the battery is draining way too fast!
On the actual post where i got the ROM, they provide a radio, but im a little curious about this who radio thingy.
1- I have a nandroid, restoring will bring back old radio?
2- is there a way to backup the radio if the answer to question1 is NO
3- what are the risks, and does it happen alot?, or is it a rare case?
4- they say it can brick the phone, is there any possible way to get out of that state?
1- I have a nandroid, restoring will bring back old radio?
No
2- is there a way to backup the radio if the answer to question1 is NO
Download your original radio from this thread
3- what are the risks, and does it happen alot?, or is it a rare case?
Just read the Radio Thread.
4- they say it can brick the phone, is there any possible way to get out of that state?
Once it is bricked, just send it for warranty. Most probably, they will change with a new one since they can't really know what you have done to the phone.
Hmmm, if it gets bricked, then i wont have my phone for MONTHS! since im in a different country than where i brought it, and i dont have HTC support here.
anyway, i couldnt find my radio type in the link you gave me - mine being:
12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.15_M3
but ofc this is the one that came with the 1.32 FW when i was degrading, so can i just extract the radio.img from the PD98IMG.zip file and the flash it? or will it cause problems?
You don't (can't) flash radio's in the same way as a ROM. Read the radio thread.
PD98IMG or the safer method IMO is fastboot (search if unsure what fastboot is).
Sent from my Ericsson T39m
na, i know what fastboot is....
but what im saying is...say i update to a new radio, and its worse than the last, can't i just take the radio.img from the 1.32 PD98IMG.zip file and use fastboot to flash it back?
Or say i found the 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.15_M3.zip radio file, can i flash that?
OR is the only way to go back to the radio by flashing a RUU?(because i heard that installs a new radio).
i have radio and eng S-OFF.

Yes.
The great thing about Radio S-OFF and ENG S-OFF is it allows you to play with radio's.
Just to clarify, and this is aimed at others new to all this, the term "flash" in this case is referring to using fastboot command (think of it like adb but with phone in HBOOT - put very simplistically) to push the file to the phone.
kol man, thanks, ...
i think the 1st method would work, cuz at the end of the day, when flashing the whole PD98IMG.zip it flashes the radio along with other stuff ... so just taking it out would, i presume, would work ...
i'll update my radio soon, maybe, and if its bad, then i'll try the method! ...
No worries.
In theory method one should be ok as the zip is essentially a bundle of files and scripts. The only reason for hesitation is some .img files are slightly modified specifically for us with PD98IMG files.
But if it does work (and hopefully if not you don't get a brick) that would be good news as I often hunt down non PD98IMG versions of things and it would save me some effort.
Please, if not too much trouble, do keep us updated (no pun).
wait .... by doing that i can get it bricked?!!?!?!?!? loool
then i guess im not doing it!, lol, im still in love with my desire hd!!!
IF, a BIG IF, the radio.img file within a ROM PD98IMG file has been tweaked in some way there could be a risk that pushing the file through fastboot could brick the phone. Doing anything with Radio files is possible the most dangerous thing you can do (certainly it's the only thing I do frequently that still makes me hold my breath).
My advice would be, if there is a "normal" zip file of the radio I'd take that and push it via fastboot (after checking the md5hash).
That may be an answer, see if the md5hash of the radio.img is the same from both sources.
i cant find my original exact radio.
i have found some radio near my current one( 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.15_M3) but they have a difference in the letters (i.e. Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M - without the 'U' and its .26_M, no M3 or .15)
whats the difference, and what do they mean? -- i googled this but couldnt find an answer.
I have a question for radio.

No. But some ROM's work better with more up to date radio. What ROM are you wishing to try?

Honest answer is I am unsure other than various protocols by various networks / manufactures (The "U" ROM I believe was provided by a specific network). There is something in there that determines if it is specific to HSDPA vs EDGE etc. but again, my memory fails me.
If you're willing to go on say so alone go for the second one as that's been tested thoroughly however, it is old so if you feel your signal, wifi, GPS isn't as good as it should be and when you're feeling more confident it could be worth trying some of the more recent ones
[EDIT]
Going back to something I said earlier, a PD98IMG file can be JUST a radio. If you don't want to use fastboot commands then here is a thread that contains PD98IMG versions of the radios.

Not every ROM (and with it the Kernel) and especially home launcher apps are happy with resolution changes. Whenever you experience bugs like this the first step is reset things like resolution and then if still bugs remove any launcher you have added the ROM.
ARHD (Revolution) is a fantastic ROM and should be bug free.
Try LeeDroids as that is my favourite and I've never had a problem with it.

The radio has nothing to do with your bugs.
The radio controls mobile signal, wifi, gps and bluetooth.
Am using radio image "5.09.05.30_2", am considering flashing latest radio "5.17.05.23". Is there a requirement that I need to flash RIL too. Also is there any chances that flashing a radio might brick the device. Currently I am using Insert Coin Ginger sense ROM 1.0.8.

Hi, I was originally on 5.09 and went first to 5.14 and then to 5.17. I have never flashed an RIL so I guess it is not a requirement. Having read quite a bit about flashing radios I would say that there is a chance of bricking but it seems that everyone will warn you about this to cover their ass. To avoid bricking it seems you need to make sure that the MD5 check sum is correct and and it should be fine.
Battery life and signal have seemed better since the flashing!
ok so ive been with android a while now but am new to the g2
just looking around the threads i havent found a good answer yet.
so what is the best radio/hboot for a tmobile branded g2
where i live i have always gotten great reception with tmobile across any devices
but i had my g2 for a day before i rooted it and i noticed a 4g symbol??
did a little research i guess that isnt 4g but im still looking for an answer.
tried a few roms, on miui.us now, something else tomorrow...
hboot-0.76.200
microp-0425
radio-26.02.01.15_m2
emmc-boot

And look for one you'd like to use. All radio's for the HTC Vision (g2/Desire Z) are on that page.
I have the same hboot and I'm using the .19 radio. Seems the best for me, been through a few and every once in awhile I get flashy and try others just to come back to that radio. It has the best reception and battery life combo for me.

There is no overall "best" radio because there are too many factors involved in terms of radio performance (e.g. geography, how you use your phone, etc). So it's trial and error. Try one of the latest radios from that thread for a week or so, see how you get on, then you can flash a different one and compare.
Sent from my Desire Z running CM7.
thanks everyone for the tips, i downloaded all the radios from the thread i was linked to with plans on trying out all or most of them over the months to find my preference. couple quick questions
it was recommended to match the lib-ril files to the radio i am using (doing it in a couple days to test the difference) but i only found the files needed for the latest radio (26.13.04.19) for the other radios where can i find these files?
also is there any benefit (or even an option) to use a different spl/hboot? or so long as i have an engineering hboot they all are the same as in no added benefits?
There's a thread about a useful tool to match the RILs for you, I will edit in a link if I can find it.
Edit - I see you found it already lol. But if you want the RILs to match with other radios, you will have to extract them from whatever stock ROM came with those radios. I don't know if someone has done this already, to make it easier ?
As for hboot then no, the main difference is eng hboot vs stock, the eng version giving you a few more options.
The only other issue is sometimes people flash the DZ hboot onto a G2, because the two phones have different stock partitioning (via hboot). This is typically an issue when flashing a Sense-based ROM onto a G2, since that has a slightly smaller system partition (so the ROM won't fit).
Sent from my Desire Z running CM7.
yeah kinda what i thought. are there any options on custom mtd partitions? not that im too crazy over sense but this way if it ever became an issue i do a few small edits before flashing a sense rom. either way thanks for the tips
oh an yeah someone gave me a link to the auto patcher for the lib files, i didnt even think to look there for i was planing on manually moving them anyway, but yes they are all placed in there but thanks for digging for me anyhow!
Hi all,
I'm fairly new to the world of rooting/custom ROMS - I rooted my Desire HD a couple of weeks ago and have installed a couple of ROMS since then (start on ice cold sandwich and curerntly on JellyTime). So far it's going well, but my wiFi signal does not seem to be very good. I know that installing a different radio may help with this, but I wanted to get a bit of help before doing this.
I've read the post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896597 which contains the guide for flashing a radio.
What I want to know is what radio should I be using? Is it ROM/phone/carrier specific? I don't want to flash the wrong radio then not be able to go back, especially since I've made it this far without bricking my phone! Also, could flashing a new radio improve my wiFi signal?
Thanks,
Simon
I recently flashed radio as well.
I did it with this one :

My problem was that when calling the other side heard them self twice. And its gone
and yes, It got a lot to do with wifi, 3G, calling. and most of your connectivity .

Radios are not EDIT: ROM, or carrier specific, but their performance is affected by region. They do affect wifi. If you are in the US, there is a newer radio in the radio thread out that I have used. Though it didn't improve anything for me, it didn't break anything either. You can also take note of your current radio in Settings - About phone, and download that radio from the radio thread.

In addition to what Bananagranola said, if you flash ENG S-OFF and your device was shipped with Gingerbread you will mess your bootloader and radio won't be the main concern then.
You can flash a radio in the PD98IMG.zip way (wich is the safest way to do it) or flash modified ENG S-OFF included in the Hack Kit and after that you can find the radio threads links in the guide in my signature.
Make sure that you read carefully those threads. Flashing a wrong radio might brick your device.

Yeah, sorry, that was misleadingly phrased. I edited my earlier post.
Thanks for all the replies. I'm starting to understand! I'm in the UK, so I guess I would need to get a UK radio. How often are they updated? When I've looked around, there only seem to be a few available.
My current radio is 26.10.04.03_M Can I improve on that?
Also, I read on the LeeDroid thread that you need to make sure the radio is compatible with the ROM, but bananagranola said it's not ROM specific...who's right??! Is it a case of, when I find a radio I want to use, I post it in the ROM thread to ask if they are compatible?
Thanks.
Just try different ones out. All inspire/desire radios can be used its just a matter of how well they will work. Leedroid was just pointing that fact out. It's not that it won't work or that it will mess up your device in trying. I use 26.17.14.11 and it works for every Rom I use. You are currently using an inspire radio so you might give the one I use a try. It's also an inspire radio. But if it doesn't then you can always try another. It's good to give it about 24 hours to settle unless it just outright makes something worse like battery or signal.
