Loss of Service - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I noticed I just started to get loss of service since I used the USB jig. Could that in anyway cause loss of service?

No, the jig only resets the download counter.

hmm then what could be causing it. I didn't get loss of service once before I plugged that jig in must be a coincidence I guess..

it was a coincidence. in fact, nobody really knows the real cause of LoS. heck, I doubt even Samsung/Sprint knows what's up, lol

What did u.use the jig for? Did u flash something?
Sent From My Evo Killer!!!

Still no root cause determined for loss of signal.

Good question...seems like a more reasonable explanation

Odin binary counter

Can someone explain what it is, and do I have to worry about it. I had to use it 3x already.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
It counts how many times you use odin to flash something. A usb jig will reset that counter if u buy one.
Sent From My Evo Killer!!!
So if we had a problem and had to take it in for repair, would it need to be reset? Or can they not pull that up?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
It does need to be reset for service. they can pull it up.
you can also pull it up to see how many counts by just going to odin mode Volume down + power from a turned off phone.

[Q] Epic won't turn on, high pitched whine when charging

I think the title says it all. I've got an Epic that produces a high pitched whining noise (reminiscent of an old CRT monitor) when plugged into USB without a battery in. When I try and turn on the phone, there's a very faint, intermittent clicking sound coming from the top area of the phone's back. If I put the battery in with USB in, the clicking sound resumes.
Since the phone won't turn on, I'm guessing something's wrong with the power circuitry? Is this anything that could be taken care of by me, or is the phone a lost cause?
I think your diagnosis is correct. Sounds like it is oscillating. To diagose further you would probably need an oscilloscope and a schematic. I believe Sprint takes care of non-insured repairs for $35.
could sell it to someone with a stray dog problem too!:}

I'm honored? Anyways, confirmed: it's not responding to a download mode dongle, so it's really quite dead. Off to eBay to sell it for scrap.

Not really...
There are people who work on solid bricks they take apart the phone and hook it up straight to the pc and will bring it to download mode and restore it.

Yeah I read that but I was refering to his "brick" situation that even solid bricks aren't an issue and is possible to be fixed... I never mentioned that this would fixed the squeal you can't quote me saying that

What?! Why not go to sprint and tell them it randomly turned off when you plugged it in and now it squeels? Maybe they can give you a refurb for $35

Well.... according to my infinite knowledge of electronics, he has a blown fuse on that thing. Loud whine is more like a fuse that popped. Kinda like when you have the iron plugged in while your room heater is at Max and you put in a hotpocket in the microwave. In about 30 seconds all the lights. Go off. Gotta go pop the breaker. But once you are at the breaker box, there's a hmmmm whine to it. That's exactly what's going on his epic. Unfortunately, there's no breaker build in the epic, even with all its glory, galaxy s devices are prone to fuse popping.

[Q] Hard Bricked Tmobile Galaxy S3?

Yes, I too hard bricked my t999 but funny thing is I've didn't flash any roms. Here's what happened, I was already on Wicked V5 rom, I went to the galaxys3root.com and downloaded MIUI for Tmobile gs3. When I tried to restart my phone to recovery mode the phone just turned off and never turn on again. Someone please help me. I don't really have time to send my phone to Texas, does anyone know any other ways to fix this? Is there service around NJ or Philly area?
Have you done all the usual? Pull battery wait a few put it back in and try to get into recovery or download mode?

Send it for JTAG repair or use a jig. Your phone might not be bricked, but there is something wrong with it.

so it seems that the common issue here is that u both downloaded MIUI from the same wepage... I would think a malicious download... and in all Honesty I had bad experiences the guy's tut.... (with the guy running the site) I dunno I dont want to point finger or nothing but 2 people with same problem?? I suspect treachery afoot... lol
scratch that... I scanned MIUI Zip file and it contained no threats... so I'm guessing a hardware mulfuction?? or simply u got a bad phone.
Try Samsung warranty since you can't get into download mode they shouldn't know it's rooted. I wouldn't say this is a user error since you didn't even flash a rom

To make sure, you have it disconnected and it's giving this error?
Maybe something on the MicroUSB leads that makes it think it's still charging?

[Q] Please help! Hard-bricked T999L

Hi, so I hard-bricked my S3 and I already tried using a jig and writing a de-brick .img to my ext. sd card, and neither worked so far. My phone remains completely unresponsive after I followed instructions on this site. The only response that my phone gives is a red light when it's connected to my pc or wall charger WHEN the battery is taken out, then the light disappears after several seconds. Also, my pc does recognize that something is connected, but then I get a bad connection sound after a few seconds. So far it seems that I tried every troubleshooting method on this site and I don't know what else to do. The last resort option I'm considering is sending my phone to a third party to get it de-bricked.
if you tried everything then probably a jtag is the only fix
