Every time I attempt to update the PRL/Profile/Android/Firmware, I get this message:
"The PRL update could not be completed. Please try again later.
If the problem persists, you may need to contact Customer Service.
Error: No Service Error"
I have made sure that everything on the device is "unfrozen" through Titanium Backup, that all original files are in place, and I have not removed any "extra" fluff from the ROM. I have an airave at home, and I currently have 4 bars, so "lack of service" shouldn't be an issue.
I am rooted, however, I am running stock kernel, and stock ROM.
Is anyone else having this issue? If they aren't, what can I do to verify that everything is configured correctly on the phone (Proxy, Pound Code Menu Settings, etc)?
I don't know this for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if you can't update your Profile/PRL over the Airave. Go outside and try it. If that doesn't work maybe reset your data.

Hands Free Activation, Update Profile, Update PRL, etc. only work on a native Sprint network. They won't work on Airave or while roaming.

I really need help guys plz help me i dont how to fix this it all started when i apply the new wimax radio if u can help im a android fan
Might help to explain what you are trying to do when you get this error.
Also when requesting help, try to include the following info:
1) hardware & software versions
2) the recovery & rom you are using
3) the problem you are having
4) what are you doing when the problem occurs
5) what are the expected results
6) any error messages you encounter
Sorry if I'm long winded. I work in a help desk. Providing accurate details always makes it easier to find potential solutions.
you're probably talking about the "Error Code 67" message that says your Sprint PCS Vision username / password are incorrect or something like that. Basically that is sprint's way of saying its not recognizing your phone's credentials on its network. if so, the simple way to fix this is call sprint and go thru their tech support until you get escalated to a real technician who will inadvertently give you your phone's MSL. (or find out your msl some other way) and will try to walk you thru the rest of the process of restoring your data profile.
but, if you want to try it yourself:
open phone app, type ##3282#
enter unlock code (6 digit msl)
>Edit Mode>Data Profile>(Menu Button)>Restore

Rooted phones? ^^^
Have yet to get this error.
I used to get this silly error on my blackberry too so I doubt it is simply because my Evo is rooted.
Hmm. Can't wait to 67 for the first time.
im not sure if you said your rooted or on stock rom, if your rooted you need to be running the stock rooted rom, then go to the section where you can update your prl and profile. update both it will act like its not working but it will say updated successfully, reboot, then should fix issue.
Just update your profile and PRL whenever you get this after doing a reboot, and reboot again.
It happens to everyone, it just means Sprint's network had a hiccup, or you tried to turn on Sprint's hotspot app or HTC's wired tether without paying for it.

Ditto. I agree this usually works... Sometimes just a profile update is enough.
As far as the comments about "Rooting" being the cause... I saw the error 67 Data Failure at initial boot out of the box as the phone was being activated

Are there any other suggestions for this? both profile and PRL update attempts fail because this error blocks the data connection completely. I have also never attempted to use sprint hotspot or any other tethering options.

Just FYI, if you saw that on launch day (and especially if you don't live on the East coast) that was due to Sprint's authentication servers being overwhelmed from all the new data and phone activations. Literally took two hours and three calls to Customer Service to get my phone's data connection fully activated and clear out the Error 67 messages.

Have you gone to a Sprint corporate store or nagged customer service lately? What ROM are you currently running?
I was on phone for 4 hours yesterday with same issue...no data due to error 67....finally a hard reset solved my problem. It reprovisioned data immediately upon reboot. Just make sure you fully backup before doing so. I used titanium backup and I'm good to go now with data.

I started getting this out of the blue this morning, all morning. Kept trying to update profile, but that wouldn't work. Kept power cycling, update profile through 3g, then update profile through wifi. Eventually it went through, took a while and many tries though.

the thing was it was updating but then the error would pop right up shortly after... but now all the sudden its been ok... so i guess ill wait it out until the replacement gets here and if its still ok i guess ill send the replacement back

I'm getting the same Error.. But I'm on Cricket network.. what would I need to change ...
Ok guys, i need some help... my profile/prl update has not worked for a long time, i get error code 4 (contact customer service). i assumed this was simply an issue with the ROM i was using however i flashed everything back to stock with odin. I am running stock everything with the latest FG01 modems. I still could not update my profile or prl.
So i thought maybe something was messed up in my programing so i ##RTN ed the device... now it wont activated at all... i get the same error code when trying to activated. So now i have no data/voice or text.
Anyone have any ideas on what i am missing?
please close... was a provisioning issue with Sprint. I ESN swapped to a different device then right back and i am GTG... thanks

I had this issue ...
Fix: when updating both Prl and profile make sure you're on Wi-Fi. Period. If you are not it won't update.
So if you want simply flash the ROM u like, sign in to Google and let it update .the manually update both prl and profile. Again on WiFi.
[SOLVED]
I suddenly began having signal issues after virgin Mobile began "upgrading" the latest few weeks (towers/system). Well, the customer service rep told me to "update my profile" in settings, but I'm running CM10.1 and I can not find any option for this. So, after doing what research I could on here, I think I have found that I need to get the latest VM PRL in a flashable zip.
If there isn't one, do I have to go back to a sense based rom in order to do this? Then, when I wipe that and put CM10.1 on it, will it remain updated (as in, is this a firmware update that won't wipe with the system?)?
What is your PRL?
61008
If I need to revert to stock in order to update my profile, since I goofed when I first began flashing roms and forgot to back mine up (on the newest radio)...would grabbing a backup from a friend's phone (exact same one on same network) and putting it on my sd card and flashing it as if I didn't forget...would this work? I mean, it isn't specific to her phone number/ESN etc, right? Or is it?
I flashed your rooted stock rom and then tried to do a system update and nothing. So, I called into customer care and turns out there is a power outage in my area and I'm to call them back after 5pm. :/
Anyhow, this should allow me to update my PRL later, right?

So, you haven't been having any signal problems?
Also, I went back to stock with the rooted one you made and the "My account" app from VM keeps telling me that there is an updated PRL available for download, but I it won't download.

My signals been great it must be your location because I don't have that option to update
I spoke to customer care again yesterday evening and he assured me that there wasn't any updates pending and it was simply a down tower. :/
Please post solved in your op title
Hello, I am new here but have intermediate experience with devices.
Alright time to throw everyone for a loop lol, hopefully someone can help me out.
Here is my problem:
My phone is not connected to a network.
Here is what I have:
Samsung Galaxy S III with Metro PCS (NOT rooted, and with latest PRL and software updates)
What happened:
I woke up yesterday to find my phone not on Metros network, and not on a partner network. My 4G still works though, I can access internet but just can not call/txt or receive either.
In Settings > About Device > Status, here are some of the satus'...
Network: Searching for Service
Signal Strength: -93dBm 47asu
Mobile Network Type: LTE:14
Service State: Out of Service
Roaming: Not Roaming
My Phone Number: Unknown
Min: Unknown
PRL Version: 0
Things I've Done So Far:
Contacted Metro through phone support and Facebook support, neither could help fix the problem.
Took my phone into a Metro store and they wont honor a repair since my screen has a hairline crack in the screen. (which I will also say, they noted that already on my account...)
I've already went to *#22745927 and enabled the hidden menu multiple times (cause it disables with each restart) and I've went to **772 to view my MDN and MSID (MIN) and the MDN shows nothing and MSID has a 10 digit number (that's not the right number for my account), so I tried to edit them to the numbers that I know are correct and after I hit done, the phone restarts but then when it comes back on, nothings changed, and when viewing **772 again, the numbers don't save in the fields.
I know *#197328640# lets you access the service menu, but I don't really feel like touching any of that and making things worse (unless someone knows how to fix this issue through the service menu then ill do it)
Now that my long winded speech is done, its your turn to try and solve this dilemma and help me out please
I hope this is the right section to post in, sorry if it is not.
Thanks in advance to any help ^^ if anyone's got any other questions, ill try to answer them best as I can.
With your Device not being Rooted, the options are limited. Also a bit more clarification. You say you have no Signal / Network. But yet you also state you have 4G, and can access the Internet. That is a bit contradictory. It sounds like you may need to have the Device Flashed to Metro again, as something may have gone wonky.
Try to dial *228 then call and see if it will go through an activation process of some kind. If it does, let it go through until successful then reboot your phone.

Dial code ##72786# is supposed to reactivate you phone. That might fix your problem. Alternatively, you can try writing a PRL that you know works with Metro.
You can dial ##DATA# and go to View. Some ROMs (even stock ROMs) have a "Write PRL" option. If your ROM does not have that, you can try the HiddenMenu.apk trick and see if that fixes it for you.
If PRL is 0, then it is not scanning for sites. LTE is handled by a different function, not PRL. Voice/Text rely on PRL to function. Hopefully the PRL fix helps you.
I have attached hiddenmenu.apk that has PRL Write enabler. Just download and install as normal app. If it does not work and breaks your dialer, simply reboot. The HiddenMenu is only temporary until you reboot, it reverts back to hiddenmenu under /system.

Yea I'm not totally sure why I can access 4G data but not the network.
I brought my phone into a Corporate Metro store and they told me it might be a faulty CDMA antenna but I don't think an antenna issue would put my PRL to 0 and not show my phone number or MIN.

I tried to use the dialer with Wifi on, with 4G Data on. Even tried to use Metros "Joyn" service which lets you make calls and texts over data connection but the issue is, I did a factory reset already and by doing that it wiped the Joyn data from my phone. Now when I go to start "Joyn" up, it says it needs to be able to connect to Metros Network for the first time set-up so I cant do that since I cant connect to the mobile network (CDMA).
I still need to try what Ascertion said.

Yea I went there, I asked how to install it since I don't see a .apk file anywhere and they said the APK is the download.
Usually you can download a file with the extension .apk then install it from your phone easily but since there is no file in that download with the file extension ".apk" then I don't see how I can install...
Quick update:
Got that download to change to .APK by simply renaming the file extension.
But after I loaded it to my phone and tried running it, it greeted me with an "Application Not Installed" message.
All of a sudden today I cannot send SMS.
I was on a really old build of Cyanogenmod12 (April 22nd I believe) as any time I tried to update to newer Nightly builds I lost all Sprint service could not make/receive calls or texts, etc.
I decided I was pretty fed up with CM12 so I decided to go ahead and migrate to AICP. I wiped everything TWICE in recovery, loaded up AICP and it works fine, I get LTE signal, etc. However I cannot SEND SMS, I can RECEIVE SMS I just cannot SEND. I had done some data restores with Titanium and I figured that somehow some way that might be messing with things. So I did another 100% fresh install after wiping everything.... I can send/receive calls, receive SMS but I cannot SEND SMS
I am really at a loss here guys, ANY help would be greatly appreciated

I stayed up all night last night working on this, let me update the thread with what I have done so far.
I was looking at some stockish ROMs and I noticed that there were warnings on some of them stating that you needed to have the Sprint OTA 5.0 update installed prior to flashing, which I actually never got. My phone came out of the box with Kit Kat and I never installed the 5.0 update, I went straight to CM12 5.0 instead. So I had a theory that there might possibly have been some sort of network data profile, etc or something out of that official 5.0 OTA that I never got that was somehow causing me problems. I decided to revert back to complete bone stock.
I wiped everything and flashed the N910PVPU1BOB7 file (MD5 = 7304e42cf0e241553d8db9e3c3eeed81) which was the official Sprint 5.0 OTA. Loaded it up, updated the PRL, Network Data Profile, etc, etc, etc.... everything works (relatively speaking...... TouchWiz sux balls of course). I have LTE signal, I can send/receive calls, I can send/receive SMS... all good.
So at this point I decided to re-wipe and flash AICP, with the emotion Kernel (latest builds on all). Load it up.... same problem as before. I have LTE signal (stronger than on the stock Sprint ROM), I can send/receive calls, I can receive SMS but I still CANNOT SEND SMS
I tried a few things at this point. I tried to manually reset the Sprint network connection on the phone by dialing ##72786#, this did not work, it returned an error "incorrect MIM code". I tried the *#*#4636*#*# that I have seen suggested in multiple places, this also did nothing, it returned an error "incorrect MIM code". I also noticed on the "mobile networks" tab, and this is true for BOTH CM12 and AICP, that it has the setting at "Global" by default and everything works with exception of sending SMS. Now when I click that tab it only has 3 options LTE, 3g, 2g.... for some reason "global" is not an option, neither is CDMA. Whenever I select LTE it automatically drops me from the Sprint network PERMANENTLY until the ROM is re-flashed there is no way to reverse this. I cannot even dial the manual programming codes "*#* etc" as it just simply says "no network service". If I try to automatically connect to the sprint network through the network operators tab it does in fact find Sprint as my provider, however if I click on Sprint to connect it processes for about 2-3 minutes and then simply returns an error of "cannot connect to the network at this time, please try again later". Again the only way to reverse this is to re-wipe and re-flash again which puts it into the unselectable "global" network setting by default where then I will have LTE signal, I can send/receive calls, and can receive SMS but not send SMS.
So that is where I am at, I stayed up all night last night wiping, flashing, and testing different things over and over. Nothing seems to work 100%, except the stock 5.0.1 OTA which is what I am on now. I really hate TouchWiz and for some reason I get a much weaker LTE signal on stock compared to either CM12 or AICP (I have no clue why this is). I am really at a loss here why everything works on the custom ROMs except for sending SMS..... willing to try almost anything to go back to a custom ROM.
Let me know if you guys have any other ideas.
Well great news I have finally resolved the SMS send issue

pbedard had tried to help me with the above post (which I appreciate, thank you), and I have seen the same advice in other threads. One slight problem though, he slightly mistyped the manual programming code it is actually *#*#4636#*#* not *#*#4636*#*# which I had tried entering ohhhhh I dont know 30 times? :silly: And it always returned an "invalid MMI code".
I had tried everything and after spending a full day on TouchWiz I was determined to fix the issue so I could go back to a custom ROM. I was even manually creating and deleting APNs, etc. Nothing would work. Right as I was about to finally give up (after literally 12hrs of researching the issue and testing fixes) I was reading the official CM 12 thread and came across the "fixes" post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57613217&postcount=3
Because I had tried entering the manual programming code so many times I happened to notice that the last 4 key strokes were not what I had been entering. I entered the correct programming code, boom the Phone Info menu pops right up I follow the directions and what do you know send SMS finally works .... wow what a relief, I am on the latest AICP release on the emotion Kernel and everything works like a charm.
Also by setting the phone to LTE/CDMA through the manual programming menu I have the strongest LTE signal by far, full 100% bars at all times (I live right next to a Sprint tower). I have never understood why I only got 1-2 bars on the stock ROM and 3-4bars on CM12/AICP through the default settings. Anyway thanks for help and I will list out exactly what I did to get it working.
- 100% Stock ROM
- CF Auto Root and TWRP install through Odin
- Reboot to recovery
- Wipe Dalvik cache, system , data, and cache
- Reboot to recovery
- Flash emotion kernel (optional)
- Flash latest AICP build (or custom ROM of your choice)
- Flash latest stock Gapps
- Reboot system
- Confirm Google Messenger is the default SMS app (it will already be if you flashed 5.1 stock Gapps)
- Dial *#*#4636#*#* ("Testing" menu screen will pop up, select "Phone Information")
- Scroll down to "Set preferred network type" click it and scroll up and set it to "CDMA auto (PRL)"
- Wait until 3G signal comes online (takes about 10 seconds)
- Change "preferred network type" to " LTE/CDMA auto (PRL)"
- It should take another 10 seconds for LTE signal to come online and you should be good to go to send and receive SMS ! :good:
