[Q] Starting "Voice Search" from Bluetooth headset - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm running the newest version of the InsertCoin ROM with Sense 2.1 on my Desire and just bought a bluetooth headphone from Sennheiser (MM100), which works pretty well except for one problem: pushing the button for "voice dialing" on the headphone does not start the voice search on my phone. I have to start voice search by pushing the search-button on the phone, which is only possible when it's unlocked and therefore not very useful. However, the button for re-dialing the last dialed number works just fine, therefore the problem seems to be that there is no action associated on the phone with the other button.
I know that some ROMs do this just fine, for example LeeDroid. The question is: do I have a chance of implementing this behavior on my IC-ROM, for example by installing some VoiceDialer.apk from the Nexus One?
Thanks and best regards!

[Q] Headset buttons

Hi, nothing comes up when searching for headset and buttons here in the dinc forum, so is there any way I can get the buttons on the headset I have to work? I've got the blackberry multimedia headset. Its got buttons, a mic, and a 4 pin connector. As of right now my dinc doesn't recognize them. The speakers work and sound great, but the button doesn't do anything. However I don't loaded an app that supposedly maps the buttons to my liking, and that app does recognize that I'm pressing buttons, but nothing more.
Anyone else cross this bridge? I'd at least like the headphones to act like the htc headphones do for pausing and answering calls. So far they don't do even that.
I tried a pair of rocketfish headphones I had with the mic and a button built in, and those didn't work either. Those were 3 pin connector headphones. So the problem lies in my hardware or software.
My dinc is rooted, running the latest incredibly re-engineered rom, which is a very very good evo port. Its running the kernel that the rom flashed over when I flashed the rom package. Perhaps my problem lies in the kernel?
Anyway, got any ideas? I'm guessing other dinc owners would like to know the answer to this question as well.
Thanks
Making some progress with the headset control app. I at least have play/pause and voice dial working. BTW this is with the blackberry headphones. I can't believe HTC didn't implement this feature to its wired headsets. Even my touch pro had this feature. Perhaps they're just transitioning to the bluetooth headphones
EDIT: ya that app was apparently switched off in its settings, so now I really have no idea whats going on.
Ok so I am now using the headset button controller app. I've got pause and play set to one press and forward and back set to two and three presses. Then one long press opens voice command. Not exactly using all the buttons on the headset like they should be but it works.
Sent from an Incredible phone using the XDA app
Non-functional htc headset buttons
EDIT: My headset buttons don't register at all
Devnull-TEST ROM Kernel 2.6.37 on HTC Desire
Oxygen-2.0.1 works fine but I prefer the non de-odexed DevNull ROM
Will try to flash Kernel 2.6.38 and see.
EDIT: kernel didn't resolve this for me. Oxygen rom doesn't do as well as devnull on my battery so i will abandon hope of a headset solution and return to devnull.

[Q] Bluetooth Headset Button - Switch from Redial to Voice Dial

Hi all,
So I have Blazer ROM 4.1 installed on my phone and my friend's phone. I did it for him. Both have Vlingo installed from the Play Store.
I have a Jawbone Icon headset and he has some Motorola model... Not sure which. When I hold down the button on mine, it launches Vlingo. When he does this on the Motorola, it just redials the last number.
How does he switch that to launch Vlingo instead?
Now, this might be a headset setting, but he said that on the original stock ROM, it would launch Vlingo.
Ideas?

I have found Bluetooth and voice dialing to be problematic on all the ICS leaks. If you notice if your phone is in standby mode after the screen goes dark you will not be able to place a call at all. You will receive calls fine but you won't be able to place one. It may try to function the first time you pair up but after that it is a no go.
I became a pest at the local RadioShack trying different headsets and not a single one worked. I have since gone back to EL29 and all is working as it should.

[Q] Bluetooth button action on GN with Jelly Bean?

I just received a Galaxy Nexus with Jelly Bean on it. Since it has the same awful voice dialer that I'm used to on previous versions of Android, I've attempted to replace it with a few different alternatives.
The problem I'm running into is that even with these alternatives installed, I don't get a choice of what app I want to handle the bluetooth headset button being pressed to dial a call. It always launches the stock voice dialer.
I've never had a phone with ICS on it, so I don't know if that was the behaviour there, but on my old G2 with Gingerbread (and Froyo before that), I could choose what handler I wanted for the bluetooth button press.
Does anyone have any idea if there's some way around this?
ICS was using the voice dialer which was far superior dialer than the Jelly beans Google voice search..I tried jelly beans dialer with my blue and s4 speaker phone..It is terrible. I reverted back to ICS.
Same problem here, I've been searching for a solution. The best yet is to use Cyberon Voice Commander, an old program (used in WM 6.5) but does the work great.
However it doesn't support bluetooth headset button...
I really dumb, a software so new with a bug so old.
Maybe tasker can intercept the Bluetooth command and start the app you want?
Swype'ed on my CM10 Galaxy Nexus
Great idea. How ever I cannot find an BT headset button action in tasker, I have to get more familiar with it.
I was trying to see if the BT could be mapped on android or if google dialer can be overridden. I used to change the program name in WM 6.5 so it would open the right one.
An old thread, but you are looking for the app 'bluetooth launch'.

[Q] Bluetooth headset button support and microphone support (Moto Hint)

Hello, I've got the LG G3 D855 on Lollipop and I recently bought a Motorola Hint. It's a great headset and works on every phone i've tried it with except fully for the LG G3. It doesn't seem limited to this bluetooth headset either as I've tried multiple and they all have this issue. It seems that when touching the headset button (the one for ending calls etc) it doesn't do anything on the phone. On other android phones it starts up google now or allows you to choose what launches when pressed, but on this phone it doesn't seem to even register. It does work however when in a call to work for answering and ending but it doesn't register when not in a call. It seems as though the phone doesn't pick up anything when pressed, it even works on an iphone to initiate siri and every other android phone but no my G3 though I have heart it works fine on other variants which allow to launch either google now or 'voice mate' , and by the way voice mate isn't installed anywhere on this phone either,. Also, when using google now normally by opening it, audio runs through the headset but not the microphone for voice input, this only works on calls. I would root the phone and put another rom on it but you also can't root the G3 which is running Lollipop before being rooted also aha.
All very confusing I know, but would love to know if anyone else has this issue or know how to fix it!
Thanks

Exactly the same issue with my phone. I have been trying all afternoon (in vain) to get the phone button on the headset (Sena SMH5) to do anything. Similar to you, I can answer calls/end calls but in an idle state, the button does nothing. I called LG support but would have been as well not bothering as he suggested a "compatibility" issue as my headset is bluetooth 3.0, the LG G3 is bluetooth 4.0. I advised him that this was also the case on my previous Samsung S4 and that had no issues so the issue must lie with the G3 and in any case, bluetooth should be backwards compatible. I have also tried the bluetooth launcher app (which didn't work) and various other apps (utter, voice command, dragon) all with no joy.
I get the impression that the function is somehow disabled. The quest for a solution continues.....
LG G3 UK version running Android 5.0
Similar functionality got broken on the moto g by an update to the google/google now app. A rollback the apps to stock fixed it until moto released a patch. Worth a try?
Somewhat of the same issue got a jabra head set and my d852 does not respond to media buttons like changing tracks or play pause buttons
Same here with D855 lollipop V20h-EUR-XX and Jabra Motion. The Jabra Motion is able to launch Google Now with all my other phones.
same here with plantronics voyager legend.. call button does nothing..any workaround now?

Bluetooth Button to open Google Now

Hi everyone!
I'm searching a method to "call" Google Now when press the hands-free button on my car or voice command on my bluetooth headset.
Searching on internet I've found that it's a strange thing on Android, that call the old Voice Dialer insted the new Google Now :\
I've found an app, Bluetooth launch but on my Nexus 5X seems to not work...another app, GNow, in it's description talk about a changing in Android 6 and that their app isn't necessary enymore, but I haven't found nothing about on internet.
Note that this app's functionality has been incorporated into Android 6.0 (Marshmallow); so don't install if you're on 6.0 or later.

Have you tried going in your Google now settings>voice>and enabling Bluetooth headset recording?
This works for my lg tone hbs810 Bluetooth headset giving me any ok Google option through the headset by tapping the call icon. Idk how it will work with the car though.
Let me know if it helps.
Sent from my annoying Nexus 5X
Nexus 5x stock unrooted here. I used to be able to both start Google Now by saying "ok google" or by long-pressing the BT button. (after the various necessary settings changes had been made of course).
I can't now. I've just followed the exact same path and discoveries the OP made.
I started on 6.0.1 and am on 7.0 OTA w/ Sep 2016 security updates. I *believe* it broke when my pricey but unreliable Philips BT headphones died. I switched back to an Anker Soundbuds Sport. I think that's when I lost that functionality. Can't start with "ok google" or with the BT headset button.
If I say "ok google" into phone's mic, I can then finish from my BT headset.
I know for certain I used to be able to launch with a button press as well as "ok google" so I think the problem is certain headsets. My BT button definitely works, it'll pause and start any music app I'm in. Answer calls, hang up. That's about it.
Would sure love a way to get this functionality back on my current Anker headphones.
And to reiterate yes my settings are correct, BT is enabled in both locations, ok google always listening is on etc etc etc.
I realize it's an old thread, but it's still an issue for some....
