Best Radio ROM? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys! I'm wondering which is the best Radio ROM for my DZ. Currently I have the GPS problem, and Cell Standby is sucking a lot of my battery juice. Any advice? Thanks!

Hey,
this is a question that has been debated over and over, to make it short though: There is no common consensus on the best radio. Usually the golden rule if-it-ain't-broke-don't-fix-it should be applied.
As far as you're issues with gps and battery life go, with the given information it's really not possible to say, whether your phone's radio is actually at fault or if it's something else.
I'm currently using the radio that came with the official gingerbread ota for the desire z (12.56.60.25U_26.10.04.03_M), it's been pretty good to me on all the roms I have tried since then.

Hmm ok.. I was hoping for some advise, maybe recommendations.. But thanks anyway

What do you want? Someone to hold your hand? Not trying to be a prick, but there is no easy answer. Just try flashing a new radio... maybe the latest release to start with. Using the PC10IMG method with the bootloader is very easy and actually pretty safe if you follow instructions. Try some out... if they don't work, you can always flash another one. Radios seem to be kind of random in how they work with peoples' phones.

Your best bet is to read peoples reviews in the radio thread and cross-reference their location/carrier with yours. There are many factorys (G2/DZ, location, carrier, etc.) that come into play so, a radio that I say is great may suck for you.

[Q] HTC Firmware upgrades

Hi guys,
new newb here, i just had a question, i recently purchased Desire HD (3 months ago) since then i hear alot of ginger bread and all other versions coming out...but doesnt seem HTC is bothering to provide the firmware upgrade for Desire HD ..apart from the guys giving their Mods here..
Do i understand this correctly?
Laughter.
GB has started to be rolled out in Europe. As always with OTA ROM upgrades, patience is the key.
[EDIT] There's a thread dedicated to this subject on this very forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=863327
(Man I'm in a nice mood. See "Andy", I can be nice *rasp*) [/EDIT]
Or you can stop waiting, have fun and check out the naughtiness on the development forum )
i think i'll go the naughty way, whats the worst, a bricked phone good for hitting lizards with!
That's the attitude I like to see.
BTW, I edited my original reply with link to thread on update thread.

As a rule, bricked is bricked is bricked.
There are rumblings of fixes involving soldering resistors to a USB cable but nothing confirmed, that I know of.
For the moment, assume no fix. If bricked it will need to go back to HTC.
Sorry if that sounds nooby

No worries. It's what we're here for.
Thx m8 will avoid that at all cost lol

You can flash a ROM with out messing around with the radio, which is what can get your device bricked. Plus there's a Gingerbread ROM of the latest build (2.36) you can flash without even having your device rooted... search for ROM 2.36 and you'll find it plus instructions on how to.
Happy flashing
Is it the same version like the leaked one?
Lol I have flashed so much ****, from so many people, to so many devices. I follow the directions and xda-devz never fail me
I recommend leedroid or rc's if you like sense or cm7 for overall pwnage.

Is there any forum which inform which radio to be use with which rom, as to avoid any bricked from happen? Or something which we must not do as can cause bricked etc?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Mate, you cannot brick it unless you do something stupid in command line. Really any wrong flash combination is recoverable.

For Lee's rom, he usually specifies what radio will be better suited and a link to radio as well in the first post.

Best radio for Italian dz?

I'm using the ics rom with htc sense 4 made by Taz but with vodafone i have no signal i some areas... What is the best rom for desire z (italian)?
Sent from my HTC Desire Z using Tapatalk 2
Are you asking for a ROM or a RADIO?
Actually, either way, it doesn't matter. You'll have to find the best combination for yourself. Different phones react differently to radios. Same with ROM's.
So yeah, trial and error, rinse and repeat.

Yes but I can flash all the radio (for desire z i mean) or there are radios that work only in specific phones related with specific areas?
Sent from my HTC Desire Z using Tapatalk 2
No. All Radios you see on the RADIO thread are fully compatible for each and every DZ/G2. So flash away, test radio for 4-5 days minimum and see what works for you.
Like I said, it's different for everyone.

Radio for gen y visionx b5

I have a G2 with desire z hboot and running genY visionX B5 i was thinking of upadating my radio=26.02.01.15_M2 first of all i want to know the benefit of doing this and the best one to flash i was told it helps in battery life and communication enhancement ..............pls.........help...........:good:
I REALLY NEED HELP PLSSSSS :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:
There are too many factors to tell you what radio will work best for you, depending on your location, who you use your phone, what ROM/modifications you use
having said this many find the latest T-Mobile radio the best (.19) of course I promise you nothing but for me it gives great battery life and reception.
There is a thread in the developers section with links to every radio for the vision, try a few out for a few days at a time and see what works best for you. There will also be a link and explanations of the benefits to matching some libs. Edkeys also has a thread on this as well, I suggest reading up a bit and running a few tests by yourself

changing radios in itself or having a different radio won't damage the phone, it is possible to brick your phone anytime you tamper with firmware, but unlikely so long as you read up and know what you are doing.
not by a computer so I won't send links but the search function works well, just search the dev section

well that's not always the case, sometimes gps will lock immediately still. its a good idea to wipe efs though, if you read through that thread and the other threads linked from it there will be all the explanations you need. but again flashing any one radio will not guarantee better reception, gps lock, or battery life, just most people find the .19 radio does

cos its slow now i have the wipe file ready which will wipe only the said partition shud i do it cos i hate "slow"
changing radios shouldn't slow down a rom, wipping efs won't speed up a rom

[Q] Will I benefit from flashing a different radio?

I am running aerovan's cm 10-20121003 with 2.6.35.14 ae14 kernel and radio 1.09.01.0622 I've got between -83 and -95 dBm signal strength when I check. I ask you guys, who I consider experts compared to me, if there is any reason for me to flash a different radio. If the answer is yes then a suggested radio would be a welcome addition to your answer. Oh and thanks in advance.

Yeah, you can always flash back. It's easy. Rename it, put it on root of sd, reboot into bootloader and let it do its thing. Be sure to rename again and put it somewhere else or delete it once you are done. Otherwise anytime you boot into bootloader it will try to flash again, which some say is bad. If you don't know how to do it, check the stickies.

I'm great at reading stickies. I was just wanting to know what the benefits of flashing a new radio really were. Like I said I'm pulling good service. I was just trying to figure out the benefit vs. potential risks of flashing a radio. It does seem like the risk is relatively low, but I really haven't seen the benefit side of it.

The reason we say try and see is because benefit varies. Some don't notice any. I'm not sure I do. Others see better battery, signal, performance, ect. Nothing about this phone is consistent for everyone. One person swears a rom is flawless and another can't get it to boot. If you think your phone performs well enough I would not bother.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda app-developers app
I did end up updating the radio. I haven't seen any noticeable change. So for me it was pointless from a performance stand point, but from the experience stand point it was worth it. The slight moment of panic when the phone doesn't make it past the splash screen before all of the different advice from what I've read on the forums kick in and I go into recovery and wipe the delvak which I had forgotten and the cache and everything booted up great.

Agreed. It's good to learn. Helps ease your mind about trying things.

[Q] WFS cyanogen-battery save-restrictions.

Hi all,
I'm new at xda and love to be involved with the devices. I searched something about my question but couldn't find anything that satisfy me. Thats why I made a post. If a made a mess, I already apologize for all.
I'm using Infrarom v0.3 on my Wildfire S and I'm very noob at android issues. So, could you please be clear?
my questions are:
1.What are the bugs of cyanogen 7.2? what makes cyanogen 7.2 better? or do you suggest me cyanogen 9 or higher?
2.What is the most battery-saver rom? cuz Infrarom is quite bad at battery performance.
3.Is there any restriction to get back in terms on kernel or something if I flash cyanogen or other roms?
King regards
Uncle

The only bug remaining in cyanogenmod 7 is the usb tethering. It drains battery faster than stock roms too but it is the best among cyanogenmod roms.
Stock roms are the best at battery performance so I suggest you to have a look at this thread

Thank you so much for the answer. it is so clear. I will try cyanogen mod 7. I appreciate if you give a link for best cyanogem mod 7. because there are too many and I lost myself among them
when it comes to restrictions, there was some limitations in iOS. For instance, if you update your iphone to 4.1 version, you can't downgrade it to 3.1 anymore. maybe in illegal ways but it was quite painful. thats what i meant there. I apologize for my awful wording

yes I did all. wipe,flash.etc.. But, I didn't like it. it wasn't faster than my old Infrarom. Only the visual things are good. Also, I flashed Gapps and it works but i couldn't download any apps. because it doesn't download anything. Just waiting waiting and waiting... no error or something...
whatever. I will try another roms. Because I have to solve my problems. I can't talk with someone because of my handset. Sound is too low. I can't hear anything when I go out. I have to use speaker on every call. Do you know anything that make my handset sound higher? not the speaker just handset.
One more, touch menu buttons are not working. I tought that it is realated with the rom. Now, I think it isn't. Because there is no setting about it. And I changed my rom, problem is not solved.

Yeah... Cm7 is quite old and the problem might be because of the gapps.
Does that handset problem exist in every Rom? If it is solved by switching roms, it is a software problem. If It's not solved, it is a hardware problem and it is advised to take your phone to the service.
Touch input is mainly caused by improper flash of gapps. Try wiping it and flash everything again
