I started by calling 611 to talk to a rep because I wanted to buy the S2 but I was concern about my data plan. My grandfathered data plan is a the package that was offered for the Mytouch 3g that includes unlimited data with 5GB and unlimited text for $34.99. When i spoke to the reps over 611 they told me i had to change to a 5GB or 2GB and had to pay for unlimited text for $10 or $20 bucks (cant remember). If i did this i would pay a difference of about $15 bucks a month. I went to Wall-mart acting dumb and asked for a S2 and the sells person did not ask me anything about data and i kept my old Mytouch data plan.... Could Tmobile change my data plan without me knowing? Whats might happened? I check my tmobile app on the S2 and it still says I'm on my Mytouch 3g data plan. What could happened?
Thanks guys.
You have to change it to a required feature with upgrade.. effectively putting you on 2gb or 5gb.. Walmart probably would have done it without telling u

Well, my previous phone was a mytouch 3g which had unlimited data with 5GB with unlimited data. I suppose it just got transferred to my S2. The sim card that came with the S2 did not work on the S2, BUT when i put my sim car that was on my mytouch 3g, it work...
I had a similar issue with Walmart. got it changed back by going into a Tmobile store and having them call customer service. There is a big difference between 2 GB and 5 GB; make sure you know which one you have because they will gladly stick you on a 2 GB plan if you let them. or as in my case, they'll want you to pay extra for the 5 GB plan you already have.
That is exactly what customer service wanted for me to do when i called 611. They wanted me to get off from my grandfathered unlimited 5GB unlimited text to a $30 unlimited 5GB and $10 unlimited text. They said the package i had for my mytouch 3g would not work on my S2, but its been so far so good. So when i went to wallmart i went in there acting dumb as if i didn not know i "had" to change my data plan. So i dont know if i should call customer service and see if anything has changed... cause they might want really want to take me off from the old data plan i have now since i have the S2 now.
Yep I went to Walmart also, and kept my same plan, no questions asked, called tmob while I was in the store just to make sure.

If the S2 works fine with older data plans, such as the mytouch 3g, why did the reps (3 of them) over 611 tell me i would have to change to a newer data plan? The sells person at walmart had a memo over her desk and she read that with the simcard that came with the S2 was for wifi calling. But before i could try the phone, it would not let me log into my gmail, so i had to change back to my mytouch simcard.

hi guys
i got my service with t-mobile last week, and ordered the $9.99 unlimited
internet, first thing when i open
opera redirects me to m.web2go.com and says "Subscription Required" and the rest of the internet apps wont work.
the guy told me that this service only works with very basic phones like a
motorola razr v3..
but i got the service anyways, thinking that i may find trick that i can
cheat the system, well so far i havent found anything..
what i'm thinking is that i might have to change the firmware/hardware info
so the system would think i'm a basic phone not a smart phone and it would work.
i'm using the Energy "Leo" 21892 ROM, not unlocked sim phone.
--
i've heard that people with iphones cheat the system very easy
i know i'm not the only one with tp2 with tmobile trying to use their
$9.99 service.. hope we make clear a solution that would help
other users too.
i would apreciate any kind of help and might buy you a BEER hehe
Go into connection settings and edit the connection for T-Mobile Data.
And then change it to internet2.voicestream.com
I use it all the time. 3G.
wow, fast reply, how do i proceed to do that using
this ROM: Energy "Leo" 21892 ?
step by step, i just installed it
Alright.
Click on your settings folder.
and click connections
After that, click connections
And then it'll say T-Mobile Data.
Add
Set up
Manage.
Click on Manage, and then click on edit for T-Mobile Data and put in
internet2.voicestream.com
Let me know if I missed a step
wow it did work!!
now i have the following questions:
by doing this am i getting bandwith that a 3g for smartphone ( $29.99 ) gets?
is there any cheaper way to get a talk plan, i picked the 500 minutes/Month
and i dont think i'll ever be able to use all of them..
can i get the $9.99 with prepaid phone?
--
i used the app called wi-fi router, routes my data internet to my laptop via wi-fi that's amazing.. compared to the rip-off montly service to get your own mobile broadband card that goes up to 50 dollars a month with verizon/sprint/att
Since you have unlimited internet, just go ahead and get rid of talk plan and download Skype. You can have unlimted talk (US & Canada) for only $2.95 a month to landline and mobile phones. But if you also want a number of your chosing then you'll have to pay an extra $3 a month along with it. However, they do not have caller ID for unknown numbers (cost extra), unless they are already added to your contact list. Mobile Skype feature still needs to be worked on, but if your not interested then I hope you can find another way to get cheaper talk plan on tmobile itself.
I got two free TP2s from T-mobile with activation two months ago using the WMDeals special. Currently, I've got a 1500 minute plan with unlimited messaging, and two smartphone internet plans. Total is about $180 a month.
Can I call them and change the smartphone plans to $9.99 internet plans or how does that work?

I got a discount on my TP2, and part of that discount is that I use a certain data plan. They won't let you cancel that if your phone was discounted.
also, instead of using skype...
can i use google voice?
also... i have the even more plus plan...
$30 for 500 min... $10 web2go plan...
how do i go about dropping the $30 portion and converting to google voice/skype? they will drop it if i call them and ask?
This 9.99 service is called "internet for phones" yes? Does anyone know if this 9.99 monthly charge includes tethering?

Google voice is just a call forwarding service that reroutes your calls to any numbers you want. It does not work like skype.
would this be possible for at&t as well?
using the $15 unlimited data plan instead of the $30 unlimited data plan...
thanks.

Anybody know the answer to this question?
I tried tethering with wmwifirouter with this $10 plan on my TP2 but it didn't work. Not sure if there is a way around it or you just need $30 data plan.

You didn't get the best deal then..
I got that deal too and got 3 TP2s WITHOUT DATA OR TEXT plan. You really just need to know how to talk to the reps.
I did it again for someone else WITHOUT DATA, but had to get text.
Your chance realistically of lowering your data plan is SLIM, because they will ese you have a smart phone.
You have to pull some tricks to do that.. if you wish to know more, simply reply to this thread.

No longer working?
I tried this "internet2" thing a couple of months ago and it worked. I have since read some comments on the Net that it was no longer working. I just tried it again (even though I have the normal data plan and don't need it). I cannot connect to the internet with these settings.
I wonder if T-Mobile figured it out and cut out support? Maybe they can read forums...
does this apply to tmobile hd2?
I am using the 5.99 plan on my tp2. I just use epc.tmobile.com instead of the internet2. Still works. I was thinking of going to Sprint for the Evo but I was reading of the speeds possible with HSPA+ and I think I am just going to wait it out to get a phone possible of those speeds. I might get an HD2 from someone off of Craigslist just to hold me over.
Anyone try the TMoble Note2 on the $50/month GoPhone plan?
Are you talking about the T-Mobile prepaid plans? GoPhone is a registered trademark of AT&T. I'm using the $30 for 100 minutes, unlimited text and unlimited data plan. Everything's been working perfectly. All I had to do was buy the activation kit to get the activation code. I activated it online using the code and the micro-SIM that was included with the phone. The activation kit also comes with a micro-SIM in case you don't have one. The $50 a month plan isn't worth it. You only get 100MB at 4G and then you're throttled to 2G. The $30 one gives you 5GB at 4G and if you run out of minutes you can just use GrooVe IP to talk.

I'm talking about this ATT prepaid plan for dumb phones. $50/month, unlimited voice/data/text. Att usually blocks smart phones but some slip through the cracks. I currently have 2 smart phones on it and it works great for me. My TMobile Note2, will arrive on the 28th.
I guess I will know soon enough.
I will say TMobile customer service is absolutely horrible, ATT's prepaid customer service is so much better. I jumped on TMobile's $49.99 Note2 deal which ended up being a fiasco for many people. I figured I would give TMobile a shot, with a $200 etf, how could I go wrong. So far the deal seems to be working out well for me.

It's $30 total. You'd probably want to add insurance, that's another $7 so total is $37 no taxes or any other fees.
OP, you bought the phone on contract and got the $300 rebate and now you're doing a $200 ETF? Well you got the phone for cheap so that's a good thing. Either way, whatever you choose AT&T still throttles just like T-Mobile does. T-Mobile has no limits on what phones you can use on what plans and theirs is cheaper if you don't care about minutes. I haven't had any problems with customer service but if that's your main draw to AT&T then go with them.

Does the T-Mobile Note 2 work with this $50/month, unlimited voice/data/text? AT&T will flip LTE for this plan next month in June 2013
Hey guys, recently i bought an ATT S3 from ebay. I've heard that if i had an Iphone 4s with unlimited data plan, i could switch it over to LTE plan with a certain cap, but i would still get throttled unlimited data after. Is this true? and how would i go about doing so?

I just bought a Galaxy S3 two weeks ago myself and I upgraded from an iPhone 3GS. I had an AT&T unlimited data plan just like you and I was able to keep the unlimited data plan on LTE. Unlimited means unlimited but what AT&T does is throttle your speed down only after you exceed 5GB per month for LTE (for the rest of that month only). The next month your LTE speed goes back up for the first 5 GB ...and so on.
Now if you decide to give up your unlimited data plan and go with a tiered data plan then AT&T will not throttle your speed because you're paying for it.
So if i was wanting to get this kinda of data plan how would i ask for it?
Just explain the situation and ask for it. Had an iPhone with unlimited and want to switch to LTE unlimited. Pretty painless.

All I did is walk into the AT&T store and told them I had an unlimited data plan on the old phone that I wanted to keep on the new phone. They said okay. Didn't matter if the new phone is on LTE.
Note: Make sure you tell them to also include the texting plan (which is data but separate). I had an old 200 texts/month for $5 and they forgot to add that onto the new plan. Turned out to give me grief and hassle when I found out I couldn't text on my new phone when setting it up at home. Returned to the AT&T store to try to add texting plan back but they couldn't. They said it was an old text plan that was no longer available. Had to contact AT&T customer retention center to get that old texting plan added at the same price.
Hello all,
I recently changed over my OGP from AT&T postpaid to prepaid with the new $60 plan. The only issue I seem to be having is tethering. Does anyone know if Smartphone tethering is supported on the prepaid side? I would think data is data, and there would not be a restriction. Then again my wife reminds me that I get what I pay for.
Steve
Yes, according to ATT you should pay if you want tethering. .. but ,look around the forum and you will find the way to enable it on your phone... also, I doubt they'll notice unless you start passing your data limits...but you might not want to do that cause it costs an arm and a leg per Mb.
I used to have an old Unlimited for a NotSmart phone plan for $10/month and used tethering with no issues in my unlocked SGSII lol... Unfortunately, they discontinued that plan and after my contract was up I had to get a different plan...

I've searched the internet and this forum, but could not find the answer, so please excuse my oversight if I have missed one. I'm planning to buy a T-mobile Galaxy Note 3 and was wondering whether it would be possible to get the $30/month (5GB data, 100 min. talk) plan with the Note 3? I'm asking because the T-mobile website seems to suggest that I would need a "prepaid" device in order to get this prepaid plan.
If yes, what would be the best way to purchase this option? Device from T-Mobile website, and simcard+plan from Walmart?
Also, is it possible to buy the Note 3 with the 24-month payment option instead of full pay with this prepaid plan (instead of regular plans)? Thank you all!
I don't think a prepaid plan comes with the payment plan for 24 months

You can certainly use the Note 3 on that plan. I am and it works great! That said, there's no financing available for any prepaid plans - financing comes with standard post-paid "pseudo-contract" plans. I paid $680 up front for my Note 3 on swappa, got it in 3 days, got my prepaid SIM switched out to a MicroSIM at the T-Mo store, popped it in the Note 3, and it came right up. I originally set up the prepaid plan on my AT&T Note 1 (SGH-I717) which I cancelled my AT&T contract on, unlocked, and took to the T-Mobile store to get a prepaid SIM for. They had no issues setting up the $30 plan on a new SIM for bring-your-own-device use.

I assume the Skype calling uses data instead of cell minutes, yes? How is the quality of Skype on T-Mobile's 4G network? Are calls clear on your end, or do people complain about your sound on the other end of the call? I wouldn't mind paying $4 per month for decent unlimited calling.

Exactly and the unlimited text and 5gb of data makes it a better plan than the base post paid plan at $50.00 bucks.
Been using the plan for 1 year now except for the 3 months that it took me to pay off the Note 3.
Ian B
Know I'm a newbie here; but can confirm that I jumped straight into the $30 "Walmart" plan with a brand new Note3 without issue. I too bought mine on Swappa. Ordered a couple activation kits from Walmart online (were actually a pain to find), picked them up later and activated my Note3 at home with no problem. I will say that at first TMo makes it seem like you need to give them another $30 straight off; but that's not the case. When you get to the point of the registration process in which they want a credit card / more money, ignore it and use your phone. Did the exact same process on my wifes Lumia.
My thanks to Mr. Ian B for mentioning the Skype plan. Think I heard about it before; but have since forgotten. My wife went over 100 minutes in no time flat. Not sure I want to go through the hoops of making Google Voice work on her WP8 device for the next six months before Google kills the 3rd party access... so chances are Skype it is!
