T-MOBILE $9.99 Unlimited Internet with the TP2?? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

hi guys
i got my service with t-mobile last week, and ordered the $9.99 unlimited
internet, first thing when i open
opera redirects me to m.web2go.com and says "Subscription Required" and the rest of the internet apps wont work.
the guy told me that this service only works with very basic phones like a
motorola razr v3..
but i got the service anyways, thinking that i may find trick that i can
cheat the system, well so far i havent found anything..
what i'm thinking is that i might have to change the firmware/hardware info
so the system would think i'm a basic phone not a smart phone and it would work.
i'm using the Energy "Leo" 21892 ROM, not unlocked sim phone.
--
i've heard that people with iphones cheat the system very easy
i know i'm not the only one with tp2 with tmobile trying to use their
$9.99 service.. hope we make clear a solution that would help
other users too.
i would apreciate any kind of help and might buy you a BEER hehe

Go into connection settings and edit the connection for T-Mobile Data.
And then change it to internet2.voicestream.com
I use it all the time. 3G.

wow, fast reply, how do i proceed to do that using
this ROM: Energy "Leo" 21892 ?
step by step, i just installed it

Alright.
Click on your settings folder.
and click connections
After that, click connections
And then it'll say T-Mobile Data.
Add
Set up
Manage.
Click on Manage, and then click on edit for T-Mobile Data and put in
internet2.voicestream.com
Let me know if I missed a step

wow it did work!!
now i have the following questions:
by doing this am i getting bandwith that a 3g for smartphone ( $29.99 ) gets?
is there any cheaper way to get a talk plan, i picked the 500 minutes/Month
and i dont think i'll ever be able to use all of them..
can i get the $9.99 with prepaid phone?
--
i used the app called wi-fi router, routes my data internet to my laptop via wi-fi that's amazing.. compared to the rip-off montly service to get your own mobile broadband card that goes up to 50 dollars a month with verizon/sprint/att

Since you have unlimited internet, just go ahead and get rid of talk plan and download Skype. You can have unlimted talk (US & Canada) for only $2.95 a month to landline and mobile phones. But if you also want a number of your chosing then you'll have to pay an extra $3 a month along with it. However, they do not have caller ID for unknown numbers (cost extra), unless they are already added to your contact list. Mobile Skype feature still needs to be worked on, but if your not interested then I hope you can find another way to get cheaper talk plan on tmobile itself.

I got two free TP2s from T-mobile with activation two months ago using the WMDeals special. Currently, I've got a 1500 minute plan with unlimited messaging, and two smartphone internet plans. Total is about $180 a month.
Can I call them and change the smartphone plans to $9.99 internet plans or how does that work?

I got a discount on my TP2, and part of that discount is that I use a certain data plan. They won't let you cancel that if your phone was discounted.

also, instead of using skype...
can i use google voice?
also... i have the even more plus plan...
$30 for 500 min... $10 web2go plan...
how do i go about dropping the $30 portion and converting to google voice/skype? they will drop it if i call them and ask?

This 9.99 service is called "internet for phones" yes? Does anyone know if this 9.99 monthly charge includes tethering?

Google voice is just a call forwarding service that reroutes your calls to any numbers you want. It does not work like skype.

would this be possible for at&t as well?
using the $15 unlimited data plan instead of the $30 unlimited data plan...
thanks.

Anybody know the answer to this question?
I tried tethering with wmwifirouter with this $10 plan on my TP2 but it didn't work. Not sure if there is a way around it or you just need $30 data plan.

You didn't get the best deal then..
I got that deal too and got 3 TP2s WITHOUT DATA OR TEXT plan. You really just need to know how to talk to the reps.
I did it again for someone else WITHOUT DATA, but had to get text.
Your chance realistically of lowering your data plan is SLIM, because they will ese you have a smart phone.
You have to pull some tricks to do that.. if you wish to know more, simply reply to this thread.

No longer working?
I tried this "internet2" thing a couple of months ago and it worked. I have since read some comments on the Net that it was no longer working. I just tried it again (even though I have the normal data plan and don't need it). I cannot connect to the internet with these settings.
I wonder if T-Mobile figured it out and cut out support? Maybe they can read forums...

does this apply to tmobile hd2?

I am using the 5.99 plan on my tp2. I just use epc.tmobile.com instead of the internet2. Still works. I was thinking of going to Sprint for the Evo but I was reading of the speeds possible with HSPA+ and I think I am just going to wait it out to get a phone possible of those speeds. I might get an HD2 from someone off of Craigslist just to hold me over.

I have a old version of the Tmobile Dash, my account was suppended because i am out of the country. I used to have that T-zones hack but now they have new data plans. What plan will i be able to get? they have ulimited texting and internet for $20, but since its a smart phone do you think they will make me get the newer and more expensive data plans?
Thanks
I'm using the $20 unlimited data/ text plan. I was having trouble signing up for it online, so I switched my profile phone to a RAZR and just got the $9.99 internet plan. I called tmobile (611) the next day to get the $20.00 plan and the rep mentioned along the way that "the dash you have will be great with this plan.. tethering etc... blah, should be plenty..".
Is all ports open on the 9.99?
i might upgrade my 5.99 then.

I'm not exactly sure what that means, sorry
I can go to any website, mobile or non, if that helps.

T-mobile US and t-Zones

I need to know if I get a Touch Pro 2 will it automatically change me to the smartphone data plan?? or will i still be able to use t-zones... I search the forum and there was no clear answer to the question. I currently have a Touch Pro One, and I use t-zones.
Any clarity to the answer will be much appreciated... I'd rather switch carriers than pay the higher amount.
****update*****
I have purchased a TP2 and have had it for about 1 month (with a billing cycle)... I still have T-zones, and I have not needed to upgrade, nor has T-mobile changed my plan. T-zones work at 3G speeds! $5.99 has never been so well spent.
i bought my tp2 from ebay for that reason, i don't have tzones but i do have unlimted data for 19.99 that they don't offer no more and tmobile wants you to buy a new plan that cost 25.99 or 35.99 with text messages. i didn't want that its to much money. but i now have had my tp2 for almost a month and they didn't switch nothing bc i never upgraded with them, and never renewed my contract. also i now get 3g speed.
hope that help your decesion. TP2 is awesome

T-Mobile won't switch you automatically and you still can use T-Zones plan with the TP2.
i just got a new touch pro 2 from my friend 4 days ago and I have tzones $5.99 plan and it is working just fine with 3G.
When the phone first came out there was mass confusion within TMobile over whether a new plan was *required*. But it turned out the new plan wasn't required (and in fact not even any tweaks needed, full 3G right out of the box), but the staff did try to encourage users to change. I had TZones and was able to buy online at the TMobile site without it even asking about a plan upgrade (I took this route to avoid any problems with uninformed staff as I'd been in a branch where they wouldn't sell it without the upgrade, and had had conflicting answers from reps on the phone). A couple of days ago I was talking to the TMo rep on another matter, and he tried to get me to upgrade. He was surprised that TZones was getting me full internet. I said no thanks, and he somewhat reluctantly let it go.
I've heard of people getting full internet from just T-Zones. How exactly does that work cuz it's got me curious now.
t-zones will work with the TP2 and if you happen to have canceled your t-zones plan like me because the person at t-mobile told you it would not work anymore then you can use the 9.99 t-web plan but just make sure in connections you change the APN to Internet2.voicestream.com
TP2 SIM swap question
Hey,
I'm getting a TP2 for my wife with a required data plan at a discount. since I want the phone, I'm going to put my SIM card into it and use it with my T-zones and unltd loyalty plan, then give her a motophone and cancel the data plan. Will they require me to ditch my T-zones and pick up a new data plan or will that scenario only apply to her SIM card?
Thanks,
OZ
I originally had the T-Mobile Wing with T-zones working perfectly, but when the TP2 came out, I purchased it from the T-Mobile store (big mistake). I told them that I didn't use the internet at all and I wanted to keep my T-zones. Unfortunately, they told me that I had to get a smartphone plan at $25/mo and that I could not keep the T-zones intact. It sucks really hard because my friend still has his T-zones for his Dash and when I plugged his SIM card into my phone and my G1, everything worked through T-zones. Plus he got 3G speeds to boot!
If I did the WinMo promotion through T-Mobile, I could have just added another line on my family plan and gotten the phone for $150, keep it for 2 weeks, then cancel the line and pay the $200 ETF and whatever the prorated charges for the extra line would come out to be. I'd still have T-zones on my line, no contract extension, and a TP2 to boot. Either way, I would have ended up paying $400 w/tax for the phone.
On a side note, I called Customer Service and told them that the data charge was going to make my bill a little more expensive than what I could afford and asked them if I could return the phone and get T-zones back. The rep didn't address the return issue and T-zones, but instead offered to switch my $19.99 unlimited family texting plan to the old $9.99 unlimited family texting plan that was available a few years back.
Saving $10/mo is really nice, but I'd rather save another $20. Going to try the web chat with T-Mobile today and use the TZUNL599 code. I saw it HERE and I'm hoping it will work. Wish me luck!

There are two different tzones. One is an old real unlimited internet plan that is grandfathered for some but for others has been replaced by web2go, a more expensive more limited option. The other is what they called their free prepaid data for a while -- that one limits you to a few sites + their store where you can purchase wallpaper and ringtones.
There was for a couple of years a workaround that opened up full internet on the prepaid free tzones, but AFAIK, TMo has completely shut those workarounds down. I've actually been meaning to try it out to make sure, but haven't gotten around to it.

Can t-mobile touch pro 2 use $9.99 web plan?

I have a $9.99 web plan service with t-mobile. I just got a t-mobile touch pro 2 from ebay. When I try to browse the web, it shows on the phone plan upselling is needed. I called t-mobile, they told me in order to use web with touch pro 2, I need to sign up for $30 data plan instead. Is there any way the touch pro 2 can use the $9.99 plan?
Hmm, that strange??? I used my HTC Touch Pro 2 (Unlocked) with my tzones (5.99) and I can surf the web without any problem.

Its probably because of the fact that you purchased a T-Mobile Touch Pro2. With that, they can identify exactly the type of phone you have using the phone's IMEI (since its their phone after all) and force the $30 data plan on you.
So unless you go for an unlocked non-T-Mobile Touch Pro2, there probably isn't a way around the $30 data plan requirement.
You could always try and argue with customer service over the phone, and threaten to cancel service, but I don't know if that'll do much.

Ok, I have a grandfathered T-zones plan on my newly acquired T-mobile branded TP2 and the internet works juuuust dandy. 3G and all.
BUT...I don't get picture messages even though I have the messaging pack. Talked to a csr and he kindly told me its because I have the cheapo grandfathered plan. Some bs about system upgrade or something. I took it as T-mobile's way of kinda sticking it to me.
Anyhoo, are there any fixes to bring the MMS back? Like I said, I have the net, but no MMS. Sorry if this has been posted already.
False Alarm
Ok, I very well may be the only person who experienced this, but after sending a picture message, everything started working again. I even got one from hours ago that must have been in an attempt cycle.
I did absolutely nothing. Weird...

easy... eBay
I'm a huge ebayer, but this is the way I did it. I doubt there's a more cost effective way to get the most complete phone out in my opinion.
Just call the T-Mobile business line and add a line for $9.99. Then tell them you want to take advantage of the "windows mobile" promotion. Go to www.wmdeals.com for all the details, but basically you get a free TP2 shipped free and they throw in free bluetooth or car charger with mine. I think activation was waived as well.
But don't add any services to your new line! Then when your phone comes, just switch your SIM card with your old plan and services to your new TP2. DO NOT activate your new line. Far as I can tell, they won't charge you for a new line till you activate. I'll check my paper bill to be sure, but online, my account shows my 4 original lines instead of 5 lines.
I read on some other forum that if you cancel your new line within 14 days or something they charge you $40. I can eat that for a new TP2, but I don't think I was ever charged for the new line.
Plus, if you send in an old smartphone you get a 100 bucks. So you can skip Craiglist or those ebay seller fees.
I'll update if I get any crazy charges after the fact.

[Q] G2 Upgrade Data Plan Question

Does anyone know how this is going to work? I'm an old G1 user, and it's come to my attention that T-Mobile USA has discontinued those talk+text+web data plans for $25 (or $35 for unlimited text). From what I see now, in order to get talk, text, and web, we'll be forced to pay the $30 for the web and $10 for unlimited text, with no other options. If I'm currently on a G1 data plan, can I just switch the device and keep my current plan? I'm guessing the answer is probably not...but I was wondering if you guys knew anything different.
I go the $25 web+400 txt.
And when i got my family plan they said they couldnt change that because if they did i would have to pay more for the web so they left that part alone. But on the switching from g1 to g2 idk if they will try to force an upgraded data on the line or not. I know if they try to do that to me i will raise hell. And they dont even have a 400 txt plan no more its only 1000, 1500 and unlim..
On their website, all I see is the "upgraded" $30 unlimited web. The only option for text is also the $10 unlimited text. I also have the $25 unlimited web+400 texts, and would like to keep that if I can. $40 per month is way too much to pay for what I had before.
I would just swap out my sim when the g2 comes and keep an eye on your bill. if they give you some bs about chaing your data plan, then fuse at them. Tell them you been with them for a long time and you want the rate you been getting. Even tell them your go to a different company. They will more or less change it back if they even change it.
Also its better to do this kinda stuff over tmobile.com so you have a recorded of what they said.
You will most likely have to update to the new $30 web and separate $10 text. Some accounts are able to keep the old data plan ($25 or $35), but most of the time you will have to switch to the current data plan or the order will not process.
It is possible that you will be able to stay on the old plan from the G1, and your best bet is to go in to the store or call customer care to order.

I work at t mobile, if your getting an upgrade or buying outright your do not have to switch anything if your getting a whole new contract all together, then your forced to get the new rate plans
Indeed, as long as you're already on an Android plan, you won't be forced to the $30 plan.

Thanks for the info. Now to "upgrade" and get a decent price (150-200), that requires signing a new 2 year contract. In this case, will I still be able to keep the current plan?
I know that if you have about six months of perfect on-time payments that that you can call loyalty and get a $20 per month unlimited data. Its called pref android unlimited web req. on my bill.
You will have to upgrade from $19.99 to $24.99 but don't let them give you the $30.00 plan. If they try threaten to leave. That's what I'm paying.

I'm obviously no expert since I started this thread, but my guess is that the $20 dollar plan you're talking about does not include text (you'll have to pay $10 more for unlimited text, there is no other option). The $25 dollar android plan should include 400 texts, I'm assuming that's the old G1 data plan (which I currently have on my G1).

Question about T-mobile service

Hello, I'm going to have a T-mobile G2 soon that I'm going to use on T-mobile's prepaid monthly 4g plan. But I do have one question before I do it, and this might be a dumb question but do I technically have to carrier unlock the G2 to use it on prepaid versus contract?
nope...
Not to my knowledge and I used prepaid tmobile for years until last month they stoped doing prepaid and now am running regular contract...but no unlock needed for prepay as its already a tmobile phone..
No, there's no need to unlock for prepaid unless you're going to use a phone sold thru a different carrier. Like the Evo on T-Mobile, for instance.

Have you looked at theyre no contract plans? They are much cheaper then the contract plans. If you have been a customer for a while they are even cheaper! I have a family plan but if i were on it myself i think its only around 50 a month. Unlimited data and whatever minutes...i dont talk much

I couldn't get them to give me a no contract plan (2 weeks ago), but I got unlimited everything for 50 a month. Saving me some big money right now compared to my old no contract plan (cause it only gave me 500 mins a month), and I kept going over talking with someone.

For me, the main difference between prepaid (no contract) and contract is the discount on devices. I like to upgrade once a year, and with out my contract I wouldn't not qualify for a significant discount on a new device. So while non contract plans are cheaper, you do give up that annual discount on a new device. Basically, in the States, we're being ripped off no matter which way you look at it.
I also agree with the previous user who posted about watching you data consumption on prepay. A friend of mine was throttled to a point where his phone was almost unusable after using only 300 MB! (on a 50 USD Unlimited prepaid plan).

That's what I'm doing, the monthly pre paid plans.
What I was asking is if I could take a G2 that's carrier locked to T-mobile to T-mobile prepaid without having to unlock it, basically if there was a difference in the phone seeing it as a supported carrier being locked.

You know T-Mobile carried the G2, right? There is no reason to carrier-unlock a phone for it to work on it's intended carrier's network -- regardless of whether you're on a contract or prepay. Unless I'm completely misunderstanding you... which is entirely possible as I am sleep-typing...

Just to reiterate what others have said, you're good dude. I just did the same thing, bought a used G2 off ebay and got the $30 100min, unlimited text/4G prepaid plan. No problemos. Just make sure you get a prepaid sim card, like this:
http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-phone/T-Mobile-Prepaid-SIM-Activation-Kit
(Tmobile has two separate sites for contract and prepaid, so as long as you go through above site, you're all good.)
P.S. If you buy your sim-card at a Tmobile store, they'll probably try to activate you there, but don't do it if you want that $30 plan mentioned above, which is only available online.

I wasn't aware of this... I have a friend (who I gave a store bought prepaid SIM card to) who is paying 50 USD a month and they keep throttling him at like 300 MB. I'm wondering if this plan you're talking about would have the same issue... also, if he wanted to switch to this plan, he'd have to purchase a new SIM card from the link you posted above, right? But then would he have to change his number, or could he transfer it to the new SIM? I've always been under contract, so I only know the basics when it comes to prepay...

The prepaid plan I'm talking about is $30 a month for 100 minutes talk (.10 cents a minute if you go over, which is reasonable), unlimited texts, unlimited 4g web (speed is throttled when you pass 5gb in a month, but there are ways* around that, but still, that's MUCH better than 300mb) and it's only available online. So it does sound much better than what your friend has, specially if you get the GrooveIP app and use that to make calls through Google Voice over wifi/4g for free without using your minutes.
It's my understanding that they only let new accounts get this plan, so your friend would most likely need to get a new sim card AND either get a new number or port in a non-Tmobile number. (I ported in a landline number) You *might* be able to pull a fast one, and port the existing Tmobile number to Google Voice, then port it back to Tmobile under the new account, but I have no idea how doable that is.
As for porting in a number, since there was no option for it when activating the sim-card online, I completed the registration up to the point where they tell you your new number, but before I put any money in the account, I called Tmobile support line, and had them initiate the port. Once that was in motion, I funded the account.

Thanks so much for all the info. I'll defintely pass this along to my friend.
As for the "unthrottle" method, I did read that thread a while back and explained the procedure to my friend, but he never got back to me about it... he was actually out of town at the time. And unfortunately that method doesn't work for everyone (or so I've read). He does use wifi at home, so this shouldn't be a problem too often. But, the plan you've described sounds 100% better than what he's working with... he's not a big talker either, so 100 minutes would likely suit him, especially with all the different ways to make voice calls these days. He could also probably port his landline number and get rid of it once and for all.
Thanks so much.
I just wanted to add that you can get no contract plans that are not prepaid. You do not get deals on phones but they do have an interest free loan option depending on vyour credit. I payed cash for my phone but the contract plan was a solid 50 dollars more a month and they would have approved me for an interest free phoneloan that would have cost 40 a month for what 10 months or so.... So either way it was cheaper monthly even if i got a new phone every year. However maybe my circumstances and unique? Either way i avoid term contracts at all costs! There is nothing like being able to call a company up and saying "hey fix X or i will cancel" you would be amazed at the deals you can get.
