Need help I installed midnight rom v2.2 today I did the recommended wipes as instructed. I had cwm 4.0.1.5 and did my backup twice. When I installed midnight every thing went good but then during reboot it just rebooted back into cwm 5.0.2.3 I've pulled the battery and nothing. I can't even get into my restore files ......did flashing the new cwm erase the backup?????I'm stuck what do I do???????
in the older 4.x cwm backups are on the internal sd card
in the newer 5.x cwm backups are on the external card.
(may be the other way around)
as long as you didnt format the actual sd cards your alright the backups are still there.
i think from cwm you can mount both to a pc and just copy the clockwork folder from one to the other. though i may be wrong.
might be easiest to odin a kernel that has the old 4x cwm
check the dev section there are a few floating around.
edit this kernel has the old cwm as both a flashable zip from inside cwm
and a .tar from odin
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1284092
sometimes it takes more than 1 wipe/format to fully clear or you could have a bad download.
there are also a few full system .tar files that will get you back up and running on a stock system.
Thanks I used Odin to reflash a kernel with the cwm I needed and was able to restore. Ill try to flash midnight against knowing I'm this now!
no prob.
may think about copying the backups to the other sd card too.
that way they are still there even on the newer 5x cwm if you have a problem.
Would it work if I upgrade to zedomax v6.02 it comes with cwm5 same as what comes in midnight rom2.2 that way I don't go through the same problem if it happens again?
it should but your best bet would be to update to that kernel with cwm5
then create a new backup before continuing.
If your phone boots into CWM after a battery pull, just select reboot system now and that will boot the phone up. I see that on my phone as well at times. Not sure what causes it but that always fixes it for me.

I tried that about 5 times it just kept booting into cwm. Maybe a bad download im not sure, but ill try it again and see if it works this time around. Thanks!
Problem solved i just reflashed the rom and it booted up just fine. It works great. Very good rom!

So my phone now will only reboot up to the HTC Incredible white screen. I'm not even sure what the issue is, all i did last before it got stuck was erase data on an old sd card i had in the phone. Then I just did a reboot and it froze on the white screen.
I'm running GB evervolv 2.3.2 with 2.6.37.4 incredikernel.
I can get into HBOOT but when i click on recovery it takes me into fastboot everytime.
What can i do to fix this????
Sorry please move this thread to the Q&A section, i thought that's where I was posting it, my bad.
Go to the Clockwork Recovery thread and download the update for a different version and try getting that to flash via bootloader. That way you can at least get into recovery if you need to flash new. Just to clear it up, did you use your phone to delete stuff off the old card, by using Astro or ES file explorer? I know ES file explorer has root access so is there a chance you could've deleted a system file on accident? All it takes is a click of the SD card icon and you're in root instead of SDcard. Also this is probably a thread more for the Q&A subforum, just an fyi
i deleted an old sd card that i don't even use for my phone, i was just putting it in there to clear out whatever was left on it. so i could use it new.
And it still bootloops even when you put your normal SD card back in?
yup, i dunno what it's deal is.
I remember an older version of cm7 on the nook color warned against formating sd cards because it accidentaly formats the boot partition, this may be a bug that exists in the rom your using.
at least you can get into hboot, you should be able to download ruu image and flash it in hboot. this would get you back to stock, then root and install clockwork, and then restore your latest nandroid.
Flash this recovery in hboot
http://downloads.unrevoked.com/forever/recovery/clockworkmod/PB31IMG.ZIP
It should at least give you a working recovery.
i have to rename things as update.zip in order for hboot to flash them right??

NO leave it PB31IMG.ZIP.
hboot can only see that name. if you rename it hboot will not see it at all.
also make sure your card is formatted as FAT32
got it into recovery so i'm just wiping and restoring, thanks for the help!
ok now i'm getting a bootloop on the cm7 boot screen...i just went to flash that new instead of my nandroid because the nandroid was from an older rom.
Did you wipe everything? Davik, Cache, Data, etc?
wiped data and cache...didn't do davik because i've never had to in the past. but i'll give it a try.
would i need to update CMW from version 2.0+ to 3 in order for cm7 to work? because it's still bootlooping
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT JUST HAPPENED TO ME!
i was on MIUI 1.3.25 (the newest GB release) and i was formatting an sd card and when i restarted my phone i got stuck at the splash screen! i have been able to boot back into cwm recovery but even when i wipe and flash, nothing works.
i booted into recovery and tried to restart from there - failed
i reflashed 3.18 (wiped cache/dalvik) - failed
i wiped all data and reflashed 3.18 - failed
wiped all, flashed 3.25, fixed permissions - stuck at splash screen again
restored an old MIUI (v1.1.15) - stuck at splash screen
pleaseee let me know if you figure this out
edit:
i ran the RUU and got stock to start working. i'm about to root and try flashing something

Are you getting errors when you wipe?like when you wipe data does it say error can't mount or anything like that.... I have a feeling you may have to flash an Ruu and then reroot
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
no, no errors. but i flashed the RUU and rerooted and everything works just fine. I flashed MIUI again and it worked perfect
thanks!
I figured that's what you would have to do glad you are back running

I always mount my sdcard in a linux and format/fix/repartion, or at least let Clockwork Recovery do it. I have never found a Sense, Vanilla, or AOSP ROM that handled SD partition operations very well, without at least a little tragedy.

This tends to be things go as far as ROMs partitioning my sd, always back it up externally and format/partition before transferring stuck back over to it while in phone.
PLEASE HELP! iv searched and searched! but im stuck in a WEIRD CASE!
after i use ODIN to flash a custom kernal with CWM it works fine.. i can boot up CMW but when i FLASH ANY ROM, after boot it loads the sprint screen.. and the "stock" looking home, BUT i cant go back to CMW. it goes to STOCK recovery.
WEIRD?
and NOW after i successfully flashed one of starburst early roms, it boots his rom (but i lose CMW! but i think im still rooted) and must flash CMW kernal to flash something else. so basically i can only use CMW ONCE!
and now i want to flash starburst latest rom but every time i try to flash it after using odin to flash kernal it goes BACK TO OLD starburst!
i dono whats going on.. seems like i cant flash anything or root phone properly.
ANY help would be appreciated.
i used (in odin):
Eg30 PLUS
STOCK CWM5
and i used the FORMAL ALL in CMW before any flash
Format all? I don't remember seeing that option in CWM but either way I'd stop using it. Just use 'wipe data/factory reset' or manually format the data partition.
If you're formatting everything(?) then you could be wiping the partition containing CWM.
Suppose to b formatting /system.. When going from one rom to the other

sorry i ment to say im using Calkulin FORMAL ALL.. its formats whats necessary before a flash
I think i had the same problem. Once flashed first kernel i could NOT get cwm to come up. Only nandroid recovery. I think what finally got everything to work right was that when i flashed the kernel again, i took out the sd card. I think that when i was flashing the kernel it was getting mixed up between internal and external sd's. Haven't had any touble since.
Just reinstall same kernel but take out sd card first.

I've used SFHubs Odin OC to move from ICS back to GB, and then the auto root tool to inject custom recovery. Specifically EL29 Odin OC and then Auto root Rogue Recovery. Several times, no trouble. From my laptop. Recently I used the same laptop to root my friends E4GT with El29 Odin OC (worked just fine) and then Auto root to install Rogue recovery. When I boot into recovery it looks and acts typical. But the recovery cannot properly flash any roms or properly restore a nandroid. It looks normal, but flashes zips too quickly and upon reboot I get a soft brick (hangs at splash screen). Luckily I was able to pull battery and get back to Odin mode.
Does anyone know why this happened? Is the auto root failing because I'm using the same laptop for two different E4GTs? Is there a ghost device borking the recovery installation? Thanks in advance for your help.
issues
Ive had the same thing happen to me.I did 2 things different at the same time so I dont know which one actually helped.
Used a difderntt USB cable(the cable that came for the.phone)
Deleted Odin the downloaded it again.
Worked after that I hope this helps.

Are you sure your friend's phone has an external sdcard?
If not, pay attention to commands that work on internal or external cards. Some areas you toggle internal/external mode. Some areas you choose specific options that work with internal or external.

First of all, thank you for all your awesome work. I am honored by your reply.
I am not sure exactly what you mean by toggling external vs internal. Rogue gives you the option to choose where to read from or nandroid to; I typically use the external SD.
Yes, my friend's E4GT does have an external SD card. Rogue recovery did write to it when I nandroided her EL29 setup, and it did read the install zip from the SD card as well. I wiped with Calkulin's format-all, then installed the rom (in this case Phantom's excellent Blazer). I knew something was wrong when it flashed, because it flashed way too quickly. After the reboot and subsequent Galaxy S2 splash screen to infinity, I pulled the battery, booted to Odin mode, restored EL29 thanks to your fantastic Odin OC, injected Rogue thanks to your swanky Autoroot tool, attempted another rom flash, same result, Odin OC, back to EL29 stock, Autooot again. Then I attempted to restore the nandroid of her EL29 setup, and that resulted in an MD5 error, which also led to a soft brick. So I Odin OC'd once again and called it a day.
My phone has never had this problem. I think I'll Odin OC and Autoroot tonight, and then restore one of my nandroids just to see if it works. I don't know whats up, but the trouble started when a second phone was added to the equation.

Basically when CWM comes back right away from an operation, usually some error occurred. One error might be using an external sdcard when it isn't present. There are other possible errors, but that was the most obvious one to ask about.

I appreciate your help. Thanks for FD10 btw, i just got done OC'ing it...awesome!
Ok i had this same problem. After OCing back to stock rooted EL29 Reinstall CWM rogue with adb auto root. This will give you a fresh copy of CWM rogue and shouldn't throw you into a boot loop. Also make sure you do a full data wipe and wipe all cashes then run Calkins format all zip prior to running the nandroid backup. Should be good. Hope this helps.
My current problem is that certain applications, not all, will dissappear after reboot if I move them to the SD Card. These applications continue to work and remain after reboot if I leave them on the phone.
The sequence of events involved a twlauncher forceclose that kept me from using my phone at all. I could do nothing other than boot into Clockwork mod. This happened after my work's Exchange Server certificate expired. Previously I had problems with a forceclose that I used the wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache and fix permissions to correct. I tried wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache and fix permissions several times to try to fix this, but it did not work.
I restored to a previous point on my phone. I had several back up points on my phone: an older one and a new one.
I had done several advanced restores: data, system, boot, to try to get the correct system to work and also to get the most up to date data. At one point, after I restored the boot data from my most recent backup boot restore, all of the applications that were on my SD card dissappeared.
I reinstalled the applications, but when I rebooted the phone, certain ones dissappeared. The applications will work and remain on my phone if I keep them on the phone.
After looking at the forums it seems I could have a problem with the SD card or the file system. The phone seems to work fine otherwise. Although, after I upgraded to CWM 5 and installed ROM manager, I got an error message regarding the first time I restored to an older backup point.
Phone configuration:
SPH-D700
Firmware: 2.3.5
Kernel: 2.6.35.7.nubernel_v0.0.2
Gingerbread.EI22
Clockwork Mod 5 (I was on Clockwork Mod 4 when I did all of the above; after I restored the phone to its current state, I upgraded to clockwork mod 5)
BTW, I would also like to upgrade to Gingerbread EL30, but it appears that I cannot simply flash the new ROM to my phone without restoring to stock ROM to upgrade.
First you can simply flash an FC09 ROM (latest). It is the modem that you need odin for.
Second: back up your sd card to a computer and reformat and restore.

Okay, I thought finding the fc09 ROM would be easy. However, all I have found it The People's Rom and Serncity by Random Kings. Is there a link for the stock fc09 to flash to my phone.

Do you have a tar file so I can Odin.
I did a factory wipe, backed up the sd card, formated the sd card, and then tried to install the zip from the card, but the phone freezes at the Samgsung boot screen and won't go past. I even went and bought a new cable.
I tried to flash ECO5 with Odin, and it rebooted past the Samgun screen. Then I get an error message:
system UIDs Inconsistent" UIDS on the system are inconsistent, you need to wipe your data partition or your device will unstable
After this I tried to get usb storage to connect and when I mount the usb storage, it appears on the computer as drive j, but I cannot do anything with it.
I would really like to have a functioning phone.

Root the phone if you prefer to have it that way. All your issues sounded like data corruption anyhow.
Use Odin to flash the CWM tar file without reboot option checked, battery pull after flash, boot into recovery and flash a FC09 kernel from the dev forum. Lastly you'll just need to install Superuser from the Play Store.
That, or fkash the FC09 prerooted deodexed stock ROM in the dev section.

Hey guys all my restores are failing half way through. It also fails if I try to factory reset or wipe dalvik but wipe cache works fine It fails if i try flash any ROM.. And if I try to boot to system it shows SG logo then black screen I'm really kind of lost here. I've already tried flashing 4 different versions of Twrp/clockworkmod and I get the same result every time. The roms I'm trying to flash were running fine on my device before this happened. Never seen this before please help thank you.

I have sgh i747 at&t us model. Unlocked Sim for Tmobile use. Before having problems. I flashed vanilla rootbox att nightly. it was running fine then I flashed acid audio mod. And it worked but not well with my player of choice. So i flashed a restore from fright before the sound mod. And all I got was 2 different Samsung logos then black screen. At this point Twrp started asking for a password. I tried an older backup. (rootbox stable) and it booted fine. Everything seemed to be working. But when I rebooted again I got the 1St SG logo then black screen. Now recovery doesn't read anything on the internal card as well as the other problems I stated. I used mskips toolkit to flash Twrp originally and now I've been flashing back and forth between recoveries using recovery flashable zips. Also every time I flash roms or restore I did factory wipe/cache/dalvik and after I started having these issues I tried wiping system and that didn't help either. Thanks for trying to help
Sent from RootBox infected sensation or my PacMan e739
what recovery are you currently sitting on?
Twrp 2.4.4.0 is what I started with and now I'm back on it but from a flashable zip this time instead of whatever mskips toolkit used

here is the link to an odin flashable twrp 2.5.0.0 tar: http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/d2att/openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-d2att.tar
and here's a recovery flashable twrp 2.5.0.0 zip link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1917517&d=1367104589
if you flash in recovery, be sure to reboot recovery in order to boot into the new version. i'm sure you know most of this but i'm just trying to cover all the bases.
is twrp still asking for the password or were you able to get passed that?
if you have a micro sd card, you could place a ROM/gapps on it, flash this latest twrp recovery from odin or recovery, perform a full wipe (cache, dalvik, data, system) and flash the ROM/gapps. see if that remedies your situation.
if you dont have a micro sd card, and it appears you've wiped the system so there's no OS, you may have to odin back to rooted stock and start over. keep me posted
Still no luck. i flashed twrp2.5 through recovery and after rebooting back to recovery it still asked for a password so I hit cancel at which point it lets me continue and after full wipe as you described above and a fresh flash of stable rootbox 3.9.1 (md5 matched) im still in the same situation. also factory wipe says failed still
I think at this point if it were me, I would Odin flash back to stock then start from scratch. Pain in the butt I know, and no guarantee, but usually flash back to stock is a safe bet.
Another option is to grab the Odin flashable cwm tar in the "root from recovery" method in the general section. Flash the tar, boot into recovery and flash the 6.0.3.1 zip in post #2 of my signature link. Reboot recovery and try wiping/flashing again.
Since you're not entering the password in TWRP, I think that's why you're not getting successful wipes and flashes.
now I used the power+home+vol down button combo to see if bootloader would start. it gave me a choice to download a custom rom or cancel so I canceled and the phone rebooted and i was blessed with the beautifull rootbox animation. my rootbox 3.9.1 nandroid booted and seems to be running fine. Now Im afraid to reboot in fear it will start the whole process over again. any suggestions? or should I just leave it powered on for the rest of its life lol
edit: well I got up the guff to reboot and everything came back fine again WTH. this is so weird, I wish I had a clue what happened. anyways I just wanted to thank you guys one more time for you help. hopefully we wont have to come back to this thread. Peace ;-]
Man that is strange. If that ever happens again it would be interesting to see the log if you can get it. I wonder if there were issues mounting a partition and/or your SD card. If TWRP and CWM were both having an error and the files were on your SD card that would probably be the only thing in common that could cause something like this. Some Transformers seemed to have the password issue, but doesn't seem related to your experience. Glad you got it sorted.
