HELP! Can't recieve calls or texts on evo...

For the last few days I have been having an issue with my evo where I am not receiving any calls or text messages. I also cannot send out texts. The only thing I can do is make calls out, and text within my own family plan. I am also able to access 3g mobile network.
This started happening after a representative asked me to enter the follow codes into my phone to remove call forwarding:
*38
*730
*740
I have tried to look up references to these codes, ask employees about them, but no one seems to know what they do. I'm thinking that it enabled automatic call to voicemail. But when people call me they get an error message that says my number is invalid.
After calling Sprint customer support repeatedly for days, they continue to tell me its a network issue. I have opened two tickets, neither have resolved the issue with advanced technical support, and it's been almost a week now.
Sprint basically said there is no option but to -possibly- (like all the other stupid things they told me might fix the issue) change my number. But basically, they can't do anything at this point and they're forcing me to change my number permanently.
Does anyone know what might be going on or have an idea? yes my phone is rooted and I use custom roms, radios, etc. But I doubt my radio is broken because of it or that it's a software/hardware issue. It seems to be very much a network issue. Any clues?
Unacceptable. They should be paying for this months service. Don't change your number! Keep calling until you get someone who is knowledgeable.
Can you disable forwarding? Have you asked them? Ask them if they can do a whole reset on the network.

[Q] Let's say we cross the border (assuming the border patrol allows us)...

A couple of my friends and I are planning on going to visit Seattle in the Winter right after Christmas, and staying with a friend in Vancouver (Canada) most of the time through the new year and the first few days in January.
How would I go about not tacking on ANY charges on my phone? I know there is a way to have it so the data will shut off (I assume because this is a CDMA phone) automatically without tacking on any charges.
But, what if someone tries to call me while I'm in Canada. If I don't answer, will I be charged? More importantly, will THEY be charged even if I don't answer the call?
What about text messages? I know that I can receive text messages and send text messages to Canada with no charges (while in the US) for sure. But, what if I'm in Canada texting to US numbers (outgoing and incoming texts).
How would I go about setting up my phone so that I would not be tacking on any charges whatsoever when in Vancouver? In other words, what are my options -- what can I do while in Vancouver (data/text/call/dance) without tacking on any charges on my plan, or what FAILSAFE work-arounds are there?
Any homie G's in the Northwest that can help me out so that I don't have to worry about this? I would GREATLY appreciate this!
TIA!
P.S. I could call Sprint about this, but I don't trust 50 year old Betty to answer my question correctly. I would greatly appreciate your inputs! Personal experiences would be nice

My personal Experience.
If you are root.
I often travel to south border and was getting alot of charges, but now I relay in Wi-Fi only. I will use Google Voice for text messages over Wi-Fi and Google Voice with SIP over Wi-Fi as well. ( i just recently upgraded to E4GT and haven't root so i use Tango, or Google Talk ) I Used to have my Hero rooted and only work like that as there is alot of wifi spots i can connect to.
If i was you ill just turn off any data services on the phone it self so nothing will sync.
for charges:
The phone running regular Sprint line will go into roaming - whoever calls you will not get charge and you will not get charge unless you answer.
Text messages are .50 cents each , minute if you answer its .69 cents
Also when i recieve a call shows as "unknow number" so i will not know who called me. but again thats in mexico roaming.
You can send texts to US numbers (even if that person is sitting next to you in Vancouver) for free - you don't need to call Sprint for this. If you're going to do a lot of calling, call Sprint and add Canada Roaming for Voice. You can have it set for a certain # of days. They will prorate the charges so it's pretty cheap. The calls are then like a dime a minute instead of 40 cents? Eitherway its cheap.
Do NOT use any mobile data. It's retarded expensive. Just turn off the Mobile data but leave on voice (so you can get texts or calls). Then leave on your WiFi.
I do this to Canada frequently - Whistler last year in particular. It works well and doesn't cost too much. I usually have them add the Canada Roaming voice just in case I get a bunch of calls.... But I generally change my voicemail message to say text me.

Sorry, sending texts and receiving texts are free for you if you are sending to US numbers while in Canada if that wasn't clear.
To turn off your data go into Menu, Settings, Wireless and Network, mobile data.
As far as people calling you from the US, they won't be charged anything because your number is a US number. I'm not sure if you're charged for the incoming call in that case.... I think that you are.

Wow!
Thank you so much guys! I really appreciate your inputs!
Okay, so in Wireless and Networks, I go into "Mobile networks" and turn off 3G data, then I go into "Roaming" and uncheck both voice and data under "International" correct? Can I leave domestic checked for voice and data and not have any problems? And also, "Roaming guard" is a bit ambiguous, would I leave everything unchecked under "Domestic" and everything checked under "International"? This seems redundant.
I would be able to use wifi in Vancouver, so could I have it so that I can see who is calling me? Can I have it so the person I am calling can see my name? -- I could call them over wifi and they would know who was calling, see me in the caller ID?

HELP!! Can't Get Talk or Text to Work on my Boost Epic.

Hi.
I followed a guide That took me through a step by step process for Transferring my Boost Mobile account from a Sanyo Incognito over to an Epic 4g touch. At first when I finished and my Epic rebooted, I received a few text messages instantly that must have transferred with the incognito? Okay, But I still can't send texts and apparently cant receive them either. I can't seem to get my 3g working neither. See but I could make phone calls for the first 20 minutes. Now I can't, and when I try to call somebody, after it rings once a voice pops up say "your authentication code could not be verified, Please contact customer services."
Could Customer services fix my problem? I didn't have a sprint account prior to this and don't want one now, So could Boost Customer services help me instead?

Voicemail Issue

Hi,
I installed PA and it has been working fairly flawlessly on my Sprint HTC One. But, only issue is with voicemail. I hold 1 to dial voicemail, but get some complementary bahama trip advertisement. I listened to the entire thing thinking it may be a one time thing, but then it disconnected me when I never wanted to call a sales rep, and repeats it if I dial voicemail again. Any ideas on how to fix this issue or what is up with this?
Thanks

"New Voicemail" Notification. How remove??

I had my E4GT flashed to Verizon prepaid. Long story short, I no longer use Verizon with the phone anymore. I just turn the WI FI on and use it to surf the web, social media, etc... I stopped paying for the Verizon prepaid bill as I no longer talk text with this device. However, someone left a voicemail and I can't check it unless I pay the bill.. and I don't want to pay the bill just to check it. Is there a way to stop the NEW VOICEMAIL notification from popping up every time I boot up the phone? I know I can just force stop the notification every time but I want to permanently remove this notification from appearing! Your help would be greatly appreciated!
