Reverting to Stock. - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok Ive read Eveywhere regarding my problem so Im after some help.
Currently have rooted Unbranded DHD Eng S-OFF + Custom Rom.
Need to send in for repair so need to stock it.
Ive tried to flash RUU_Ace_Gingerbread_S_HTC_WWE_2.50.405.2_Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2_release_199042_signed
but keeps sticking on the "Sending" Screen with HTC on phone.
Ive also tried to flash
RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.32.405.6_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155891_signed
but same as above.
When I originally rooted etc, I backed up my "Stock" Rom and I have restored that to the phone.
Questions are this.
If I install the OTA Update, will this return my phone to Stock ?
Why is the RUU not flashing.
Any help would be greatly received..
Regards
Shad.

You do really need to use an RUU to make sure that everything is completely stock. Are you sure that your computer is set up properly? Android SDK and all installed? If you have a desktop use the USB ports on the back as they are connected directly to the motherboard. The front ones are connected with a cable and are more prone to errors.
Try to factory reset the phone (through the settings menu) and then try to install the RUU again. Make sure USB debugging is on and Fast Boot is turned off.
Heres a guide just for reference.
1: Install 1.32.405.6 RUU
2: Use Visionary+ R14 to temproot, then permroot
3: Reboot
4: Use Jkoljo's Easy Radio Tool to set S-On and set the CID to the default HTC__001 (Unless your phone came carrier branded in which case the CID will be different)
5: Reboot
6: Reflash the RUU
7: Update to the latest software normally through software updates.
EDIT: An OTA update will not reset your phone back to stock. It will merely install a new ROM (or change the current one slightly) and maybe a new radio. It will leave it S-Off and everything.

So if I do
4: Use Jkoljo's Easy Radio Tool to set S-On and set the CID to the default HTC__001 (Unless your phone came carrier branded in which case the CID will be different)
That will take ENG S-OFF back to SHP S-ON ?
Also, will the RUU get rid of Clockwork ?

The Easy radio tool will take it back to Radio S-On
The RUU will get rid of the custom ROM, custom radio (if you have one), clockwork and put Eng S-On.

Well Fastboot is off. USB Debugging is on.
Factory Reset and still Not getting past the Sending screen....
Getting Annoyed now lol.

Any way to install via SD Card ?

Yes, the PD98IMG method.
Run the RUU until you get to the "Start Upgrade" type screen.
Don't start the upgrade.
Search your computer for rom.zip "it was extracted from the RUU"
Copy rom.zip to your SDCard.
Rename rom.zip to PD98IMG.zip
Reboot into Bootloader
Follow prompts.

ok SD Card Method works. YEY
Now SHP S-OFF also.
Thanks for the help !

[Q] Stuck in boot loop

Hey, I updated my phone last night to CM 6.1.1 from Oxygen by AdamG using ROM Manager. I chose the options to wipe the data/cache and to install google apps. When that finished and my phone rebooted it now doesn't start anymore and just stays on the cyanogenmod loading screen and that loops around every minute or so. I've looked at the output of adb logcat and that shows some dalvik vm errors about not enough free space but I don't know what its refering to.
I tried going into recovery by holding power + back and then going to bootloader=>recovery but that just brings up a red triangle with an exclamation mark in.
I've also tried flashing the HTC Desire RUU (RUU_Bravo_Vodafone_UK_1.19.161.5_Radio_32.36.00.28 U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126338_signed.exe) to try get it working again, but that detects the phone (I started the RUU program while the phone was in fastboot.) and starts to flash the rom but fails.
I can't flash the recovery back with fastboot due to my device being S-ON (i assume thats the cause because i get signature verification fail)
How can I get this working again?
Thanks,
Jack.

how was this device rooted?
flashing a rom cannot replace the recovery unless its an RUU but you said you had the exclamation mark which means unrevoked didnt replace the recovery
please tell me how this was rooted, did you use unrevoked?
Umm, it was with some goldcard method I think. It was ages ago when I first rooted it so I can't really remember what I did and i've done loads of ROM flashes since then and they've all been fine.
Heres some output from adb logcat while the phone is booting - pastebin.com/yfGJdRwe (can't post links yet
did you try and go into recovery before or after you ran the RUU?
us a gold card and try and do the pb99img.zip method
the RUU didn't install. it detected the version but wouldn't install.
Which pb99img.zip do I flash?

Depends on the version of baserom you have now.
Safe bet is to go for an equal or higher version. If one isnt available, youd have to use goldcard and go for the latest WWE
How would I find the baserom version?
you would have hopefully made a note of it before rooting
if not, as Droidzone said, you would be best making a goldcard and flashing the latest WWE RUU from shipped roms.
well, acording to my experience .
your may got some problems in your ext portion of your SD card.
try to repair the ext portion with the recovery.
hope this would be helpful to you.
Umm, well no I didn't
Right so if i make a goldcard and use this RUU (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=869048) and take the .zip from it.
That should work with no major complications?
yep, make a goldcard.
this is a direct link to the latest PB99IMG.zip you should use:
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.zip
should work ok
Right its back to stock and im trying to root it again using unrevoked and everything is going fine but at the end it says "Internal Error: failed to unlock NAND flash?"
what version of unrevoked are you using?
make sure you do not have any form of adb tools running on the machine like droidexplorer etc etc

Hi.
Are you trying to run the latest RUU WWE 2.29.405.5? This should give you no problems, unless you have a custom HBOOT, which I can't see.
Try running the PB99IMG.zip directly from SD Card. Here it is how to extract the PB99IMG.zip from the RUU: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880268 -2nd post.
Please explain a little more about what you have did to the phone till now (custom HBOOT?).
We have to take it slowly.
i tried using this version -
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe
and regards to the hboot i have used alpha rev so i dont know if that classes as a custom hboot or not.
and thanks for the quick reply

Hi.
Well there's the problem the version of RUU is way too old (1.21.405.2 <-> 2.29.405.5). Try running the latest RUU and run it from bootloader (PB99IMG.zip).
If you have used alpharev only to S-OFF but not to flash HBOOT's then there is no problem. Just run the latest RUU and it will be all over.
Please post the result.
okay so i use the ruu and make a pb99img, mount the usb storage place it on the phone reboot and it should work. do i need a gold card tho to do this?

Yes.
1. Extract the PB99IMG.zip and put it on root of SD Card.
2. Reboot in bootloader (Volume-Down + Power)
3. It will automatically load the img and ask you if you want to install
4. Check Yes and follow onscreen progress.
5. Wait untill it finnishes
6. I think it will reboot itself, if not scroll down to the Reboot obtion and press Power button to select.
About the gold card:
You need a gold card only if you have a branded phone.
If you do need to create a gold card try this guide:
droidzone said:
4. Do I need a Goldcard?
If you have a recent version of the RUU for your Device, available on Shipped Roms, you dont need a goldcard. This is the usual scenario for people who purchased their Desire in Europe, and so have an unbranded Desire. All Branded Desires need a correct branded version of the RUU, and any other RUU including WWE (Worldwide English, or European) RUU will not work for them. Also if an unbranded Desire user wishes to change RUU to a branded version, he will need a Goldcard. This is because all Desires have a particular software tag in the Rom, called the InfoCID. This dictates the Region code. For Eg. An Indian Desire is branded and has InfoCID of HTC__038. When you change a RUU to different region, what you actually do is reset the InfoCID setting. Changing the InfoCID setting requires a Goldcard.
5. What is a Goldcard?
It is a normal MicroUSB card specially prepared in such a way that its Sector 0 (which normally doesnt hold anything useful) is modified, so that it signals to the HTC RUU that the InfoCID may be changed.
6. How do I create a Goldcard?
Just download this tool (Credits and All Rights by [email protected]), and run it.
7. Can you tell me more about Goldcards?
Sure. I've already posted it for you. Read the FAQs in this thread.

Or to create a gold card in Linux(without using the phone): http://www.nazriawang.com/2010/04/how-to-create-goldcard-with-ubuntu.html
No method available for Windows only.
droidzone said:
Whatever you do, DO NOT turn off the device manually unless the software tells you to. If something goes wrong, dont switch off phone. Keep the phone on while trying a solution. Newer RUUs dont usually wreck a phone, and with a goldcard, you can always recover. But, the flash SHOULD NOT be interrupted by switching off or disconnecting the cable.
Always start with a battery with >50% power (full recommended).

HTC Wildfire original condition

Hello!
I have a question.
Currently I have the phone Rooted and a custom Rom is installed. Now you have my phone for repair. I would like the phone back in the original condition (ie without root privileges and ClockworkMod menu) to bring.
I had then the original image, which I did for the root time, have re-played.
But unfortunately I get the menu ClockworkMod not go away.
The menu is still available.
Next try:
After I had been playing the original image, and I had started the cell phone was offered by T-Mobile is an update.
But unfortunately this update is not installed.
It aborts with an error message.
Now I have read that I should just flash the original RUU, Complete new. So I went to shipped rom on the side and I have the appropriate RUU for my phone charged. (RUU with the Tmobile UK).
But this I do not get installed.
The flash process is interrupted after a few minutes with the error 140 (wrong bootloader version).
Now my question:
How do I bekome out there, I have on my phone without the original T-Mobile software ClockworkMod, or do I uninstall ClockworkMod?)
Did any of you an idea?
Thank you!

what is your language?
is your phone branded?
you have breaked your recovery?
Maybe you have installed the bootloader driver from Unrevocked
Is yes, download and install htc syn from its official site and after the installation, unistall ONLY htc sync, not the drivers
my phone is unbranded and i used this

it will update your HBOOT to 1.01.00001 so you need s-off to flash recovery and custom rom

Hello!
I have my phone with Rooted Unrevoked3.
Then a Custom Rom installed. (DK ROM).
Original is the phone branded by T-Mobile Germany. It was originally Froyo still on the phone.
HTC Sync I have installed and then uninstalled so I only have the drivers on my computer.
For flash process:
I've taken on shipped-rom RUU following:
RUU_Buzz_TMO_UK_1.14.110.1_Radio_13.45.55.24_3.35.15.19_release_130442_signed
If I'm in HBOOT USB plug mode, the mobile is an Android Phone - Android detected bootloader interface.
However, so after the start of the RUU, the phone is not detected!
If I'm in the fast boot mode, the USB phone as a USB device is Android - My HTC detected.
Even after you start the RUU detected the phone and I can start the flash process.
However, it comes out after a minute the error 140 (bootloader error).
If I install the image, which I then made by the original ROMs, will start after the one offered on Air update.
This, however, can not even install.
The flash process will start, but after a short time I see a picture in the phone with an Android males and a triangle. Then I am back in ClockworkMod menu ....
As I've written, I only want to install my phone with the original RUU from T-Mobile Germany and the menu should disappear ClockworkMod ...
Did any of you an idea?
What happens if I flash a non T-Mobile RUU ....?
I can try to flash another RUU and then later, my T-Mobile?
Please Answer, thank you
Greeting Hollux
You will have to downgrade MISC Partition, to allow "Downgrading" your ROM. (DK Custom ROM is based on 2.22.405.1, and you are trying to flash 1.10.114).
The Guide for AlphaRev X to Downgrade HBoot from 1.01.0002 to 1.01.0001 follows this same procedure, but, its for the WWE 2.22.405.1 ROM only.
But, you can follow this procedure, since you are on HBoot 0.80x
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
Obviously, the command version numbers will change in your case, and, you will need the TMO Rom.zip from that RUU.
NB - Disclaimer - It should work, but, it's a sensitive process, and I am not responsible for bricks.

[Q] RUU factory Main version is older

Hi im trying to restore my Desire with factory Rom without root and S-off
Now in Bootloader it says

MICROP-031D
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101

I tryed many times to flash official RUU
RUU_Bravo_Fastweb_IT_1.15.1600.5_Radio_32.30.00.28 U_4.05.00.11_rel_121996
(my Desire was branded Fastweb)
Everytime there is an error, flashing by bootloader
Main version is older!
Update fail
It shoud happen when HBOOT is newer than RUU , but i think my HBOOT is the right one.
I used goldcard, and then i tryed without but the problem is the same
How can i solve?
The coldcard works by making the phone ignore the CID (customer ID), so that you can install a RUU of ANY brand you wish. It DOES NOT work for bootloader versions, so e.g. once you update your phone to 2.2 (from 2.1), you CAN NOT, go BACK to 2.1 using an older RUU. Hope that helps you to understand it a bit more. As for upgrading your phone, try that:
I don't know whether your phone is GSM or CDMA (since I've never heard of that network) but if your phone is GSM (has a simcard), then use this RUU http://www.mirrorcreator.com/files/...2U_5_11_05_27_release_159811_signed.exe_links
It is the latest WWE (world wide english) RUU so there is no way you will get that error. You need a working goldcard for it to work, but from reading your post it seems you have that covered so you should be fine.
You can go from 2.2 to 2.1 using teppic74's downgrade tool. Its a bit more involved than just flashiong an RUU.
That RUU is in th GSM section on shipped roms, but that doesn't necessarily mean it IS gsm

I tryed ur solution, but during flashing there is an error "131 customenr id error"
About the 2nd solution ( downgrade from 2.2 to 2.1) , its right to use it while i have hboot 0.75 (not 0.92) ?
Now i have on Leedroid 2.1.
RUU_Bravo_Fastweb_IT_1.15.1600.5_Radio_32.30.00.28 U_4.05.00.11_rel_121996.exe
So i think i need to have hboot 0.75, and its the hboot i can see in bootloader. Right?
I have to restore it because my touchscreen doesnt work, and warranty end with rooted phones
Downgrade dont work.
When i go in bootloader and i read PB991IMG.zip it says CID ERROR.
I've done goldcard many times, this is what i do:
Format MicroSD 4gb (stock microsd)
Open Gold Card Tool and complete the operation (it says gold card created)
what i do wrong?
When i have to install RUU in bootloader i put inside PB991IMG, so i extract Card and load the file by cardreader.
That error 131 appears everytime but when i try to install Official FASTWEB RUU it disappears and , as i said before, appears BOOTLOADER ERROR
you're either doing the goldcard wrong or your sd-card simply doesn't work as a goldcard.

Best method to prepare for warranty exchange

I've got the fuzzy lens problem and I want to get the phone replaced (preferably via T-Mobile but I'll go directly to HTC if I have to). I know you can scratch off the coating on the lens and get some camera improvement but I'm not interested in that solution.
My goal: Return the phone to completely stock condition. No root, locked bootloader and preferably S-ON. I've read a few stories where HTC insisted on replacing the motherboard (with an additional full price fee) because the device was S-OFF and I don't want to go there.
Background: I used firewater to S-off the phone as soon as I got it (it was running 1.12 at the time). I have flashed the Harmon Kardon audio stuff (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2737498). I have turned off the tamper flag (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708565). I am running the Stock+ rom which is based on 1.57 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2716843).
My plan:
1) Reset my bootloader to locked (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708571)
2) Wipe the phone and restore my very first nandroid backup I made with TWRP. That will get me back to unrooted 1.12 firmware but without the stock bootloader and still S-OFF. Staying with 1.12 will allow me to S-OFF again with firewater if it comes to that. If some kind of emergency came up, I'd hate to spend $25 on sunshine for a one time use on a phone that is going back to HTC forever.
3) Install the stock bootloader that matches 1.12 firmware. Not sure how to do this yet. I'm afraid I won't be able to achieve this with a locked bootloader and no root.
4) Verify everything is back to stock.
5) Set the phone back to S-ON (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2758818)
6) Run the 1.57 RUU (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2714456)
7) Proceed with the warranty exchange.
I'm not sure running the RUU is 100% necessary, but I figure it's the best bet I have to make the phone completely stock.
Questions: Is this a sane plan? Am I doing anything in the wrong order? Are there any steps that won't work because I've lost root or unlocked bootloader? Am I setting myself up for a brick anywhere?
There is a thread about doing this on a EU M8 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735235) but I can't tell what, if any, modifications need to be done for the USA T-Mobile version of the M8. There is talk about having to flash a firmware file twice or risk a hard brick when setting S-ON. Do I need to be worried about any of that?
UPDATE: T-Mobile gave me a warranty replacement to fix the camera lens problem. I did get the old phone back to completely stock with locked bootloader and S-on before sending it back.
I found it was easiest to use the sunshine installer to gain temp root. You don't need to pay anything since you stop before it goes through the whole S-Off process. Just run the APK and select temp root. When sunshine shows you the next screen, you can exit out and still have root. (http://theroot.ninja/)
In the end I didn't bother with the old nandroid and keeping the exploitable version. I also had the order messed up in my initial post. Here is what worked for me:
1) factory reset the phone (in TWRP I did advanced wipe and also wiped internal storage). This step kills root. Rebooted the phone and verified it was back to factory defaults. Go through the setup wizard and skip all the steps. I couldn't find a way to bail out without going through every step in the wizard.
2) flashed stock recovery (the bootloader was unlocked and the phone was S-Off). Root is not necessary for this since it is done in fastboot. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...l/ota-recovery-ruus-firmware-dumps-t-t2852107). Rebooted the phone.
3) achieved temp root using sunshine APK
4) locked the bootloader (required before running the RUU). You must have root since you need a SU # prompt in the shell. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708571). I rebooted again for good measure but it's probably not necessary.
5) reset the phone back to completely stock using the latest 2.22.531.5 RUU. This step does not require root. I found it was easiest to put the phone into fastboot mode before running the RUU. (http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads)
6) Once the phone booted back up, I looked over everything and made sure it is all completely stock. Checked HBOOT said locked (not relocked) and dis not say tampered.
7) OPTIONAL - set S-On. Again root is not required since this is a fastboot command. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52823014&postcount=2)
My actual process wasn't this streamlined. I ended up doing the RUU a couple of times because I didn't flash the stock recovery first and I didn't think the RUU installed the stock recovery right. Turned out I just didn't know what the stock recovery looked like (it was very confusing since I had never actually used a HTC stock recovery).
Thanks to the authors of the various threads I pulled info from. They are the real MVP's.
I flashed the stock HTC RUU via the .EXE and wasn't able to get the "RELOCKED" off the phone. Tried some steps here:
http://www.droidviews.com/restore-att-htc-one-m8-stock-firmware/
however I wasn't able to get "SU" to properly run in terminal.
No w the phone says *** RELOCKED ***
and im S-On
anything I can do?
