I think I may stick with my Trident Cyclops until I can get a decent discount.
I have been waiting for this case for a while now!! I have been in constant contact with Ballistic about the release date and so forth through phone and email. After they posted the new pics of the redesigned back, and delayed the release even further...I went out and bought the Seidio Innocase Rugged with Holster and LOVE it!! Was considering the Otterbox Defender as I love the Impact and Commuter but the Defender got horrible reviews....
SO, with 40%, I will probably jump back on board. At $50....I'll stick with my RUGGED and like it!! The Seidio Rugged seriously is an AWESOME case, and having the Innocase too is nice. I bought it just for work, the evenings and weekends I let the Evo run around naked. Though I have found myself taking off the exoskeleton and silicone case and leaving on the Innocase in the evenings...its pretty nice!

I have to disagree on the Seidio case. I thought it was great when I first got it, but after just a couple weeks the port covers were tearing back into the case and I had to cut them off to stop the tearing. Then one day when I went to take the skeleton off, a piece of it just snapped off in my hand. The camera cover wouldn't stay pinned back anymore, so I had to cut that off too. Finally, the holster is a really poor design. The lock gets unlocked too easily and then the phone can just fall out. It should be made so you push down to lock it and pull up to unlock.

That sucks!! Hope that doesnt happen to mine. Mine is actually the Best Buy Platinum brand version. Which appears to be slightly different than the ones branded Seidio. I think they took the flaws from the Seidio branded cases and fixed it on the Platinum branded cases, or so I heard (really looks that way too). For those who dont know, the Platinum brand that Best Buys sells is just Seidio product with a different brand name stamped on it (it even says Seidio on the bottom of all of the packages :-D )
I bought my Seidio Rugged from Amazon..not a port cover has torn or a piece of the skeleton broke off in my hand.
I read this in all the reviews..and all I could do was facepalm and make the purchase KNOWING that these behemoths' were just trying to rip the case off rather than "REMOVE" it. A little finesse goes a long way.
I won't replace my Rugged, just like I never replaced my Seidio case for my G1 way back. I will cheat on my rugged for 40% off that sexy looking ballistic though..even though at full price it's ugly.

Mine lasted since the release date until I broke the skeleton a couple weeks ago. No problems with anything else. The rubber on the replacement they sent is quite a bit heavier and the exoskeleton a slightly different design. I told them it would be nice if just the skeletons were available to buy separately in the Seido store and they said they'd pass that on to sales. If you guys have any problems tell them the same. Oh yeah and colors would be nice too.

Actually, I wasnt "ripping" it off. I just used my fingernail to pull back the corner and release it and it just fell off in my hand. However, I still use it every day and it still does a good job of protecting my EVO. I would just expect more from a case that costs $50 and claims to be "rugged". I preordered mine, so it was one of the first batch. Maybe the newer ones really are better.
Discount or not, I do plan on getting the red Ballistic case when they are available.

Yeah, I don't understand why he's talking about finesse with a "Rugged" case. Anyhow, my wife and I are both careful with our phones and don't rip the case off. And it chipped off on both of our phones.

When I bought my HTC Evo I purchased the Otterbox Commuter from Sprint. Being a Premier Customer I received a discount on accessories in addition to the sale they were running on accessories at the time. After getting all set up I gave my HTC Hero to my girlfriend to replace her Palm Pre. She liked her phone, but knew she wanted a case. I gave her the option of the Invisible Shield from Zagg, like she'd had on her Pre, or an Otterbox Commuter like mine. She liked the idea of the larger case because she's hard on phones.
So, I ordered her the Commuter and it arrived at the house when I was on my lunch hour. I placed it on the counter so she'd see it when she arrived home. I figured she'd understand that I was placing it there so she could see it and I would install it when I got home. Boy, howdy, was I wrong. I came home and she'd destroyed the screen protection that comes with the case. I tried as best I could to save it, but it was hopeless. It was completely ruined.
I told her that she could use the case, but to continue babying her phone because there was no screen protection at this point. I emailed Otterbox and explained the situation to them. I requested that they send me a new screen protector and I would pay for it, as well as shipping. I didn't hear from anyone for about a week, but someone did get back to me. They offered to replace it and requested my information.
I sent them my name/address/previous order information and they told me they were sending a replacement out. I thanked them profusely and, again, offered to pay for it. They denied my offer. About a week later I received a package in the mail. They sent a whole new case, not just a screen protector. They replaced the whole order! Otterbox is the best.
tl;dr: My girlfriend destroyed the screen protector to the Otterbox Commuter case I bought her. Otterbox replaced the whole case, not just the screen protector, for free with free shipping.
I used to sell Otterboxes and Body gloves. Otterboxes may not be cheap, but they do a hell of a job protecting your phone. Body Gloves are a bit cheaper, but they're nothing compared to Otters.
Those Blackberry and iPhone 3GS Defender cases were some of the most insane, most durable cases on the market. I had people come get one and intentionally throw or drop their phone just to prove how much it worked. Never saw a broken phone from that situation once. I was always from the camp of have it "in case" that happens but don't tempt fate.
The only issues I ever had with those was the "oil slick" appearance that pretty much mandated an anti glare screen or the baby powder trick.
Now with the new batch they've apparently corrected the "oil slick" but the durability of the cases for the iPhone 4 and EVO are way way down. Not only do they have parts that break (kickstand anyone), but the rubber fits in this little tiny channel and gets stretched just enough where it comes out very easily.
The service from the customer service has always been superb, as long as you call and patiently wait to speak with someone. I realize they have a relatively small CS team, so this is not an issue with me.
The only issue I take out is the quality of the cases they are currently putting out. I broke a kickstand on an EVO defender having never used it, opened it, and never dropped the phone either. Sure they replaced it, but that thing crumbled without any force or abuse.
It's a little plastic clip though, so that part you can't really be too surprised about. I'm surprised with how rough I am on my Evo the kickstand is still there.
Good for you, I know many people that rave about their customer service.
However, the new stuff seems to have taken a nose dive in quality. Buyer Beware. I'm an advocate of Ballistic and Trident now.
I recently ordered my ballistic hc case of off amazon just in time because I got my first scratch today so I can't wait to get it. But to all the owners out there, how does it hold up? How does it feel, do you like it, is it worth it? Because this scratch really opened my eyes but at least its not on the display. And on a semi related note, anybody have any tips on how to maybe buff it out or something?
i could beat somebodies head in with this case on my phone and still make the call to 911 when i was done. love it. if you hate bulk you wont like it. overall one of the best cases i have ever bought.

I'm willing to accept the bulk on the basis that it will definitely protect my phone cause I've been scared of touching my poor phone ever since I scratched it today.
Love it, love it, love it. I grabbed mine for $30 off Amazon, and it was WELL worth it. Quality is definitely there. I usually use mine without it around the house, as it is rather bulky, but I wouldn't go to work without it. I truly feel like my phone is protected when I'm out and about now. And the holster is 100x better than the one that came with my Otterbox from my old iPhone 3GS.
Just a little update on how much i love this. i wont get a phone unless they will make a HC case for it. where i work is bad on phones. from dust to long drops.
I love this case, makes the phone feel huge but its ok cause our phones are huge anyways

Until you take the case off, then the phone feels tiny and sexy. I personally don't care how big the phone is, as long as I don't have to worry about dropping it.
I got it off amazon for about $30 as well. It kept going up a dollar every day so I was like I have to take the plunge soon before its at full price again. I can't wait to get it.
Well I have had mine about three weeks now, I broke the holster in the first week and a half, customer serv is sending me a replacement. I was reading a few people having issues with the prox sensor using this case then I noticed I was also, after cutting the plastic screen protector that covers the sensor off it is working perfectly now.
$50 is too much!
$30 on Amazon, bravo, $50 from Ballistic, a bit much. I like mine but have one major complaINT.... WHAT'S WITH THE CHEAP PLASTIC KICKSTAND? They should send everyone a better designed replacement, damn thing is like something out of a CrackerJacks box.
I agree with the stand comment, on another note I got my replacement holster and they sent me a new case because of the prox sensor problem.

Without the optional rubber outer layer it's about the same size as the Cyclops. If that's too large for you then you probably will be much happier with something like the Otterbox Commuter.
I personally can't support Otter right now with their poor quality control though.

I just received mine today and all I can say is wow! I have been through so many cases that ended up being junk and I finally have something that delivers the goods!
1st Sprint Body Glove - cracked and broke after 1 week
2nd Zagg screen protection with naked phone. Began to peel after 2 weeks
3rd. Seideo Innocase Active limited edition - 1st one corner cracked and back peeled constantly
4th Second Seido Innocase Active - 2 corners cracked after very minor drop.
5th 5$ ebay rubber/ silicone case. Actually was ok but couldnt use charge port while it was connected.
6th and hopefully final case Ballistic HC! This one feels like a tank! I don't mind the bulk because this one will actually last. I bought it on ebay for $33 here. Don't screw around with other cases like I did (and waste so much $), just get this one and be done with it!
Mine is on the way. $25 off ebay. My seidio rugged really held up great but i just wanted something new ive had that seidio for months. Passed on otterbox for ballistic. Hope its as good as the seidio

This is MUCH better than Seidio. My Seidio is falling apart and unusable, the protection on the Ballistic seems to also be superior.

My Seidio "Rugged" case also fell apart. The Ballistic case is built 100 times better. I can't see this thing falling apart unless I actually try to destroy it.

The design on the Seidio just doesn't make sense, I don't understand why they'd build the exoskeleton that way. Go Ballistic!
This is a great case! We have 4-5 users here that have that case and I borrowed one for a weekend. While I love the protection I just can't get over the bulk, so in the end I kept my Case-Mate Tough Case which has so far protected my phone vs my 2yo.
I have had the Ballistic case for about a week now, I think they made a great case! I have only the one complaint I think everyone does, what the heck were they thinking with the kickstand, it's useless! Though I don't really miss it that much, I wish it were there....
My brother got me a rooted evo on the local classifieds a week ago to replace my htc hero(Best birthday gift I've ever gotten from him ), so I went into the sprint store and bought an otterbox defender case for $50. I really want to hold on to the evo until something worthy of an upgrade comes out so I figured I couldn't go wrong with the case.
PROS
Build Quality - simply amazing, it makes me want to throw the phone off the 5th floor of my building to test it out
Included belt clip - Lets face it, the case makes the phone bulky and the 4.3 screen adds up to its size. The clip is well made and the case is sturdy in it, doesn't feel like its going to fall off.
CONS
Price - A little steep at $50 but you get what you pay for... which is peace of mind
Plastic Kickstand - The case covers the whole phone, including the metal kickstand. Otterbox designed a second kick stand which is made out of plastic in order for users to keep this feature, the kickstand broke the other day when I gently popped it out in order to show some friends a video during lunch(Hella embarrassing lol).
Heres where customer service comes in, I called them, call got answered almost instantly and I explained the kickstand issue to the rep. I asked him if I could get a new kickstand shipped out so I could use my case again(looks fairly easy to replace). Without asking any questions he asked for my address and shipped out a new case for me. I quickly realized that those $50 I spent really paid off in the end.
Overall the case may have some quality issues with the evo 4g due to the kickstand, but overall great quality and great customer service make me a happy camper
All future cases on my phones will be otterbox cases
I had the same experience with my wife's Nexus One and my HD2 otterbox.
The hard plastic breaks fairly easy but just a phone call to them will get you a brand new replacement in one week.
Otterbox is one of the few companies that still recognizes the importance of excellent customer service. The kickstand issue with the Evo 4G is a fairly common problem, but Otterbox is quick to replace it. Due to their quality and outstanding customer service I have a Defender and a Commuter case for my Evo 3D. The quality of the Defender is even better for the 3D model, AND smaller!! Some of the Commuter cases have an issue with the inner silicone not being tight at the top of the phone. 5 minute phone call with no questions asked and I have a new Commuter case scheduled to arrive this Friday. I had an issue with my Ballistic HC on my Evo 4G and Ballistic acted like the could care less, and told me I would just have to buy another one...... no thanks! These incidents have assured me to be a life-long Otterbox user, an just keeping Ballistic in mind as another option.....if desperate

They will support it, heck! I got the one for my HD2 off Craigslist and they still do.
So feel free to buy them off Fleabay.
Supporting the kickstand?
Do they just replace it with the same thing or is it new and improved? They only thing I absolutely hated about the case was the kickstand.
Also the holster's clip can latched in an "out" position to hold phone in portrait on a table too
They have sent me a couple of commuter cases with zero problems after the silicone near the bottom of the phone became flimsy. I didn't want to get another one when the issue occurred for a third time and asked if I could upgrade to a defender series. I told them I would even foot the bill for the price difference and they told me don't worry, we will send you a defender.
Great customer service, but a rushed build for the Evo. The iphone case looks way better, but then again the curved shape and camera sticking out of the Evo didn't help much in terms of making the case.
I switched cases with my brother today (gave him my defender while his gets replaced)
the rubber got flimsy and came off the plastic, he didn't notice and he clipped it on his belt, when he took it out the rubber got torn.
Called otterbox and they sent me a replacement(waiting for it)
Since he works in construction, I gave him my defender so hes protected while I wait for his replacement.
I agree Otterbox is great. I have a commuter case and wanted a new screen protector film. I couldn't find them anywhere on their site so I called to ask where I could order one. She said "you can't order them because they are a warranty item. Let me get your address and I'll send you a couple". Amazing!

I bought the otterbox defender a while back and the silicon rubber outer shell is flabby and its got a big air bubble thing goin on on the back. And it doesnt stay streched tight. Has anyone else had this problem with the defender?

Nope, only issue I notice is when charging the bottom part pulls away from the phone a bit but thats it

Good impact protection for a silocone case.
The silicone on my defender is flabby and stretched out. So otterbox is sending me some new silicone skins. Will be here in 8 days

Having personally used this case, I have to say it is pretty good. I bought it from a guy at a sprint store secondhand (he was upgrading to Evo 3D) for 40 dollars give or take. It retails for about 60 or so, (in the store it did that is) so i felt I got a good deal, even though i neglected to look online for better deals. Anyways, it does what it should, and keeps my evo pristine looking. The only thing is that the plastic kickstand is prone to breaking. It's not that big a deal though, since even though I am not the original owner of the case, I am getting a new one shipped to my house for free. You can't beat customer service like that.

I honestly believe otterbox dropped the ball with the defender series. But i can say from personal experience otterbox armor series, though it makes the phone a brick, it gives the best protection.
Also its easy to take off if need be.

Depending on what you're trying to protect it from, the UAG, Defender, ShockSuit etc cases all work well.
I've dropped my S3 with all of the above from varying heights to various surfaces and the phone is perfect and cases not much worse for wear.
Search YouTube for video reviews of the various cases, they can give you a pretty good idea.

I bought early batch of it. The rubber will be out of shape at the corner and the usb caps will be torn off easily. I took photos of all this and emailed to them. They replaced it for free

Well I'm going to give otterbox one more try. Went to bestbuy to see if they had the Armor but they did not so they told me that they can order it for me so I said sure.
Now I have a question does otterbox offer a warranty for my phone if the armor does not live up to what otterbox says it can live up to (so if i get water damage, phone drop, ect)?

It would make sense that they offer a warranty for my phone. If not the case is has been false-advertised and is misleading.

Not sure about the warranty on the armor. Only reason I stayed away from it is due to complaints about the sound quality during calls. Since I have no need for the crush resistance aspect, I went with Lifeproof (needed the water protection). I know Lifeproof will not replace your phone and the warranty terms for it clearly state that the cases are not a replacement for insurance.

Otterbox will only warranty the case, not the device. There are to many variables to consider when a casr fails.

I have always bought Seidio cases and never had a problem with them breaking. Otterbox cases look cheap to me.
OB defender was my first case and couldn't stand it lol. Im have been sticking to minimalist cases

I got the free replacement too (iPhone 4S), but it's too bad that the new one is already becoming stretched out and sloppy after only a couple months. I'll be sending off for warranty replacement for my iPad Mini Defender soon, and I'm otherwise done with Otterbox. Too much money for a greatly disappointing product.
Also bought one for my wife's Samsung Google Nexus, and that's in pretty bad shape too for being 8 months old and spending a good chunk of its time inside a purse pocket.
thanks to this forum I didn't get an otterbox because of posts like this with people saying how it cracks the screen and they aren't as well made for samsung as they are for iphones and other phones. Went with the Body Glove Tough Suit which was suggested on here and it was $30 at wal mart. Working like a charm for over 4 months now, lots of drops and no damage. Just think I'd like a waterproof case now thats not a whole lot bigger in size so I've been checking out the new Griffin Survivor cases they carry in Wal Mart now for $30-$40. Says its waterproof and haven't seen a whole lot about them on here or people talking about the quality and toughness of the case compared to others. Mostly need a new case thats dustproof and light waterproof would be nice too. Can't seem to keep dust out with the case I have now and using my phone while its raining and not being cautious of a drop in water is always a plus because you really never know when something will happen.
I'm willing to pay more for a better case but since the cheap one I have now has worked so good for me, I'm thinking this Survivor one might turn out as good as my Body Glove.

The Griffin survivor is not water proof but rather water resistant. I'd had one before my otterbox armor series, loved it. But needed completely waterproof.
