Since I thought my phone, I've noticed an annoying problem. When my phone is charging in the screen is locked, I go to unlock the phone and the touch screen seems to have a problem registering my touch for the pattern password.
I would unplug it for a second to draw the unlock pattern, unlock the phone, and then proceed about while the phone is plugged back in. Then out of nowhere, it'll do the same thing.
Anyone experiencing this?

i am not getting that problem, but if you call tmobile im sure they will switch the phone.
I've had this problem - but only when I used a different charger from the one included (even though it's a Samsung charger). Are you using the cable included with the phone?
Yea it has happened on mine but only if it was laying down when i try to unlock it. once i pick it up it was fine

This is a known issue with all variants of the Galaxy S2.
The Galaxy S2 is very sensitive to input voltage, and if it doesn't like what it's getting, the touch screen calibration gets a little funky.
Voltage-regulated chargers (ones that are big and blocky or have a bulb on the wire) tend to work well.
Don't bother exchanging it over this, it won't change anything. You just need a better charger.
Yes, I'm using the same charger came with the phone. I guess we will just settle this issue with the fact that it just gets a little funky When plugged in.

all Properly build chargers will not cause that problem
i purchase cheap 2A charger from Deal Extreme, but those are build good, not like some of the crappo accessories from ebay

I have the same problem.
As many of you guys said, a good charger is needed for a stable voltage input.
I have no problems charging from the original charger and my desktop computer.
However the problem shows when I am using my laptop (7 year old) usb.
So a good charger is recommended.
I can confirm this issue, but what i want to know is, why does this happen when the phone is lying flat on a surface while charging and goes away the moment you pick it up? If it was a faulty or imprecise charger issue then the problem should persist?
My guess is it has to do with the EM shielding around the charging module, and that it doesnt do enough to shield the totally normal residual interference from interfering with the touch screen digitizer. When we pick it up, our hand acts as an interference dampener and minimizes the issue while it is charging, to almost negligible amounts. But its just a guess. The chargers might also be generating greater than average interference as well. But just charger alone cannot explain why pickibg up minimizes the problem.
The charger doesn't cause any erratic behavior on my Galaxy Nexus like it does on this phone... So what is the explanation behind that?

What's unfortunate is that the Samsung charger that came with the device causes the touchscreen issues.
Fortunately, I have an HTC charger lying around that works, no problems.
I have seen this happen with the HD2, Evo 4g, galaxy s4g & Sensation. Its a problem with chargers and the voltage. It happens with those chargers from walmart. Its not just the GS2 phones.

Add the Tmo HD7 to the list.... it happens all touchphones on which i believe has grounds surrounding the phone, touching the touch screen stabilizer or whatever you'd like to call it. It's the ground of the charger, nothing to do with charger instability. Take your laptop's charger, plug it into a wall with no 3rd ground (a laptop that has the 3rd prong) and take that same plug, and plug it into a plug with 3 prongs, you'll notice it has that static-like feeling that makes ur fingers tingle (when you touch a metal part of your laptop). It's the same issue with our phones

The phone has been absolutely rock solid since the day I bought it and I love it. Today however I was using Google Navigation with Bluetooth connected to a headset so I could hear navigation prompts and phone calls. The phone was plugged into a generic Motorola microUSB car charger that I've always used for tons of phones.
The sun was out and hitting the back of the phone so the battery app I had was reporting battery temp at 45 and above.
Anyway even though the phone shows the charging icon and says its charging it doesn't seem to receiving enough juice to charge the phone? The battery kept dropping and I can't tell if this was because the phone was so hot that it stopped charging the battery like my Incredible used to do or if I just need a more powerful car charger.
Then on my second leg of the trip the phone rebooted mid navigation. Started back up and has been working fine.
Anyone have any ideas or seen something similar?

Was listening to Bluetooth music and browsing a site and boom hard freeze and had to pull battery to get it to start. Only thing today is I installed nytimes. I'm going to try uninstalling it since I remember having issues with the app on G2X. Let's hope.

I've had random reboots, but I'm not at all sure what's causing them.
Also, the lockscreen will occasionally become unresponsive, but it seems to fix itself if I leave it for a while.
I guess we just have to hope for a fix in an upcoming patch.

Its common to run hot when using gps. Reboot was probably because battery too hot. Your phone did the right thing. Cool off period.

depending on the car charger & phone use, you'll get insufficient juice to keep the battery charging. i'm assuming your moto charger is a 'rapid charger', if not.. then i would suggest trying one out.
this one is pretty decent: Motorola P513 Rapid Car Charger
if that doesn't cut it then the next step would be to use a power inverter(what i use).. only down side is they are a bit bulky & can be noisey to.. but will ensure your phone gets charged up no matter what(gps use, torrent download, etc)
Thanks I ordered the Motorola charger. It was only 5 bucks on Amazon Prime. I hope that works otherwise its inverter time

That's bit a OTT, it got hot but not Nuclear.
I'm finding the GN gets hot just from using it with games/browsing.
The hot spots are on the back at the top, next to camera

i'm having constant reboots. this happened to the first GNex i had. it eventually wouldn't come back on. i even waited a good 12hrs and tested it again and it still wouldn't come back on. returned it and now the people i returned it to are telling me that it's fully functional, and now i have a new one that's acting the same. i guess it's going to die too and then i'll have two lemons on my hand. thanks a lot, Google/Samsung.
I've just had my first two random reboots today. Phone updated with the volume fix ota yesterday morning.
It reboots and then gets stuck at the android updating screen.
Don't know if it is a coincidence that this has started after the bug fix.
This morning I look at my phone to see that it has not only rebooted but the default, first-time welcome message is waiting asking me to log on using my gmail account, etc.
In other words my phone got wiped over night and I don't know why. I did install some phone tracking apps yesterday but removed most of them except for PhoneLocator which I ended up paying for.
So I've spent a few hours restoring things the way they were and right before I got to work the phone did a reboot but fortunately did not do a factory reset as it did before.
I am kind of worried now, I really hope this will not happen again.
Any thoughts? Similar experiences?
I had this "problem" with my Desire. In car, connected to a charger than I know works. Phone not charging.
Basically, as mentioned, the battery will stop charging when it reaches a certain temperature. And the OP mentioned it was a hot day. Plus being on the other side of the glass amplifies the suns heat.
Also a "good" charger is specifically one that has an output of 1A. I and others have found that charger with an output of 850mA and less definitely won't cut it for GPS duties.
The reboots... may be heat. May be something else. Does it only happen when the phone is hot?

just so you know you are not alone - i'm having the same problem with the galaxy nexus i got yesterday. it was constantly rebooting, also showing the "upgrading Android" dialog at startup.
this continued after factory reset and no additional applications installed.
i returned it, waiting for one from the next batch.

Got my GN Thursday morning. Since then I've had 3 Reboots.
First was actually a full power off while streaming music via Subsonic, plugged into a car charger about 10 hours after getting the phone.
Second was after viewing some flash enabled websites, so not too surprised there (reboot).
Third was just after installing and setting up Google Wallet about 45 minutes ago (reboot).
Wow years of lurking and apparently that was my fist post.
GNex Reboots and Freezes
I am in the process of exchanging my GNex replaced by Samsing. Within 48 hours after getting it in the mail (no rooting or anything, just stock) I was getting random reboots, apps crashing, black screen (unable to wake) requiring battery oull. By the next day it was just continuous soft reboots (starting at the boot animation, not the "Google" screen).
Called Google who transferred me to Samsung who said they need to repair and not replace the device quoting 7-10 days. I called Google back and they said Samsung should have offered to replace the device and the Google rep called Samsung back and got them to replace the device (apparently there's a 14-day window that the device can be replaced).
It was a Friday morning and I was told someone from another Samsung department would contact me within one business day to arrange shipping the replacement and getting my credit card details for the advance replacement. On Monday I still hadn't heard from anyone so I tweeted at @samsungsupport with my ticket number saying i was still waiting and received a call within minutes from a Samsung rep arranging the shipping of the replacement. May be a coincidence, not sure.
At this point, I was quoted Wednesday for a total of 5 days without a phone, unless it takes longer. Unfortunately I only recently switched to a GSM carrier and don't have a spare SIM card phone so the delay is inconvenient. Hoping for a better experience with the replacement device and I wish there could have been a next-day replacement strategy for DOA units.

You need a minimum of 1 amp for the car charger, most chargers only provide 750 mA. Also check the charging method, some of the cheap chargers will not trigger AC mode (Will show as usb charging) and in those cases, you are only getting 500 mA, if this is the case, you might be able to trick things by shorting out the two data pins on the USB cable.
I picked up an iPad car charger, the older ones are 1 amp, the newer ones are 2.1 amps. Toss out the crappy proprietary cable and put in a standard micro usb. Plenty of juice for this thirsty phone.
Well, it seem every phone I use in last 6 month getting this disease when you swipe or touch on screen and nothing happens, or when you press one key on keyboard and it inputs completely different character from opposite side of the screen...
Just now I had the same exact crap going on on Nitro!
I pressed and hold on back button on the gb keyboard and it was acting like I'm pressing random keys at 50 keys per second!
But before that I had trouble unlock the phone, since the slide off motion didn't register at all, the slider would move a few pixels and go back.
The weird fact is the most noticeable this occur when phone is plugged in and charging, unplug it and problem usually goes away or at least become manageable.
What the hell I'm doing to these phones that causing this? Actually this is the first phone where I f.k with the system files, all others I either used CWM or market, nothing else.
I have not had any touch screen issues with this phone other than its just a hair less sensitive compared to my captivate.
[email protected], are you a ghost? I have heard that sometimes phones will act strangely during use if you are a ghost. Something to do with spiritual electromagnitism. This would also explain why you are having compass issues!
Okay, so back to being serious. I've had the EXACT same issues you speak of when my phones (yes, this has happened to other phones too) were connected to 'dirty' power.
What I mean by 'dirty' is either a power supply that was very low quality or using a USB cable that the phone didn't like. Just recently my Nitro was acting erratically while I have it plugged into my computer. It shouldn't have been a problem because I was using a high quality, well shielded Blackberry branded cable (worked perfectly fine with my Nexus One), but as soon as I used the usb cable that came with the Nitro then everything worked correctly again.

I've found what Namuna said to be true. Also, I experienced this issue with my phone plugged into the power strip on the nightstand. Apparently there is a grounding issue in that power strip.

Could be it. I use a power bar also. Plus I think I'm using a cable from a galaxy nexus now that I think about it.
Maybe I'll try to find an official lg cable.

I haven't had a complete loss of touch responsiveness, but I have experienced the erratic behavior; but only when plugged in and only while charging in AC mode. I've noticed this a lot more since I dropped my phone with the charging cable attached... I can be in USB mode and the slightest touch will knock it off charge yet I have no touchscreen problems. Once, every now and then, I am lucky enough to get into fast charging AC mode; which is much more stable as far as touching and using while charging... but the screen is almost unusable due to the erratic touches. I turned on "show touches" in developer options and while in AC mode, it shows multiple touches in a horizontal line relative to where my finger is. It even affects my soft keys.
Happens with every charger I've tried; my original charger, both HTC chargers I have, and a charger I found a few weeks ago. I've experienced the problem in my house, multiple hotels, and a few other places; both with and without a power bar. Pretty much, what I'm saying, I'm sure I've been connected to a good grounded source of power, yet I still experienced those problems.
Out of curiosity... have any of you either replaced or had your digitizer replaced? I've replaced mine twice, and my problems began shortly after cracking the screen the 2nd time.
Well i tried the charger that came with my optimus g (using a power bar ) and it seems to work fine now.
One more thing i did was try it without my memory card for a bit. I don't know if that had anything to do with it also.
Anyways so far so good.

Ok so my sister's epic is overheating most of times (This is why I stick with HTC instead). Even when you connect the charger and its not being used. Bought it from a seller on craigs and the phone is in immaculate condition just it seems that the Epics are known for having that overheating problem. Wanted to know if rooting would fix this issue or should I just take it straight to Sprint(even though the morons that work there, reset the phone and reinstall the stock software) And rooting would only void the warranty. Oh and the battery dies pretty fast. And the other issue is the Wi-Fi and 4G switches turn on by themselves? Sound normal to yall?

What does your sister typically use it for? I've been using mine as a primary source of internet for the last 2 years and it's been known to overheat while downloading for long periods of time (which is almost always). I download roughly ~80-120gb a month. I've never really worried about it overheating though because it just seems to sort itself out and when I check it a few hours later, it's warm/cold.
If the battery is dying a lot though, you might as well take it in to Sprint and have them run diagnostics on it just to make sure there's nothing physically wrong with it before you root it and void the warranty. Maybe you can get a free battery or something out of it just in case.
To get the 4g and wifi to stay off, disable the Sprint Connections Optimizer in Settings>wireless and Networks.
Every phone I've ever had gets hot on the charger, so please give us more details.
What is fast battery drain? Again, usage details needed.

Well all I know is all of sudden my battery has been getting hot and still good battery life I was on charger and using GPS but my phones batter was around 119*F

Some low MA chargers under 700MA charge output make my phone hot, i use an aftermarket 900MA 5v charger.

Yeah, if I run my Nav program while plugged into a car charger, I have a tendency to overheat. Twice, the phone shut itself off and you get this weird icon with a battery next to a red thermometer.

Yes this is off topic, blah, blah, blah, but do you find that your battery percentage DROPS while plugged into the car charger? In both the vehicles I have regular access to this occurs. It doesn't matter whether or it it is going through a 140 watt inverter and a 750 or 1000 Ma charger or a 1000 mA USB port on my Bluetooth FM transmitter. It. Just. Drops. I can only get it to charge with the screen off and the phone in deep sleep. It's been driving me ****ing crazy ever since I got this refurb about a year ago and I think it even happened with my original Epic. I've just resigned myself to carrying 3 batteries with my every day 5 batteries for long trips. I don't get it. It's quite depressing though, plus my Epic will rape itself if I have navigation and TuneIn on. It might only last 10 minutes before freezing and rebooting at 120°. God forbid I add 4G to the mix. Am I the only one this happens to? I'm still pissed just thinking about it. Am I the ONLY one this happens to?

never happened to me it discharges sometimes but i turn off 3g and itll cool down, sure it gets hot, are you using SAMSUNG car chargers? they can help. and is your battery dead or eol? a dead battery can ruin chargers.
Yeah I will take it to Sprint sometime this week for sure. My sister uses the phone for simple web surfing and email checks. But mostly for call/texts. I think the issue is the battery most likely since it takes a lifetime for it to charge completely. My Evo 3D charges full in around 45 mins or less even when running at around 10% battery. And it never gets hot when connected to the charger. The other issue is the phone automatically turning the Wi-Fi or 4G switches by itself. Ive turned it off once or twice and 2 mins later its turn on by itself. Phone has been acting nuts. I've owned 3 Epic touches and 1 4G and they overheated when in use but never when connected to the charger. All my babies are rooted btw.
Well man I've owned 4 Galaxy phones all together and they all get horny hot from using them for simple stuff like talking on the phone and web surfing. That's why I'm sticking with HTC. Never have I had my Evo 3D get super hot with simple use unless I'm watching a movie or using the Wi-Fi tether. Maybe its the Samsung phones they sell in America lol we get the cheap crap.

My phone has never over heated I normally use mine for Facebook, xda and you tube. I used my GPS while streaming music and the hottest it has ever got was 110° F

Overheating has nothing to do with Epic or any other model. It just means she has so many things running at the same time. My friend has an HTC with the same problem.

Dude my phone just on charger in car gets to 100*F that's not normal normal is about 74 to 86 anything below is just being in a cold state. Mine gets to 92 to 98 when playing games or multitasking

Actually that's very normal if your plugged in while in the car... especially if its hot out... and if your streaming music or using navigation its even more likely.... these phones are like mini laptops... guess what, my laptop gets hot also...

My NS4G stays around 80*F its hotter than my Epic but I guess its normal for that even that its the same CPU.
But my NS4G doesn't get around 100*F while charging in my car though.
My Epic when staying asleep at my house it gets down to 55*F to 60*F. NS4G gets down to 77.

I don't make it a habit of checking my phones temp but I'm sure mines pretty low while sleeping also.. just sayin.. but when you're in a car, especially one that's been sitting in the sun all day, it is perfectly normal for your phone to get a little warm while its in the car also... charging or not for that matter. And then if you dnt have a working a/c... wow don't even get me started there.... lol but really all kidding aside, its normal for these phones to get 100 and even a little over that.. it all depends on how much is going on in the bacground while you are plugged in.... that said, everybody knows that every phone is different

i have some issues with charging my inc2.
it is not accepting any charge anymore, tried diffrent chargers, cables, even on my pc but nothing. The orange charging LED just flashes slowly on and off...
Any ideas?
Need to replace phone or replace charging port.

Yes, unfortunately it is a known hardware issue. Over time, the charging port starts coming loose. Like mentioned above, you CAN fix it yourself. There are video tutorials on YouTube and the replacement part can be had for under $10. If your device is still under warranty, Verizon will replace the phone. If it's not under warranty (or if you just want to give it a go), the port replacement process is pretty straightforward.
I might give it a try. Does anybody have a video or a link?
The weird thing is, that the battery is discharging very fast, could it be just a bad battery?

Could b the back door on your inc 2. I believe you need the back door on to charge cuz it goes thru contacts on the back. I dropped mine one day and charging and getting signal was almost impossible till I figured that out and bought a new one

Seems to charge now. Won't touch it until it is full. After that I will check what is going on.
I don't know where this issue came from.never dropped it nothing. It was even in a Otterbox

The issue stems from regular use. The charging port is essentially held in place only by the connections to the board. Repeatedly plugging and unplugging the power cable causes it to break over time.
actually just replaced the charger port on my incredible 2 today. It really wasn't that difficult at all. If you have any questions feel free to PM me
yeah it has to be replaced. happened to me last month. It's honestly like the worst flaw with this phone

Def need to replace it. Same issues I was having at one point with it randomly taking charge. I found that if the charger is plugged in a held a certain level ( i placed the phone on a flat surface with a book under the cord for leverage) it would charge just fine.
If you are rooted and sending back, make sure you revert to stock to avoid any annoyances.
I've managed to solve this issue without messing around with the phone's innards (the last time I did it was a disaster and I was forced to buy an entirely new phone). It's not pretty, but if you twist a rubber band around the micro usb end of your charger, plug your phone in, twist that same rubber band around the phone itself, and make sure the connection very tight, you might get some more life out of your charger port.
Ugh. I can't wait for my upgrade.

While, I give you major kudos points for MacGuyver-ing a solution, that's more of a quick band-aid than a real fix. I could imagine having a rubber band around the phone could potentially hinder usage.
But hey, way to think outside the box! :good:

Thank you. You're telling me. Do you know how hard it is to use a touch screen with a rubber band across it? Oy.
Right. The caveat here, of course, is that this technique will only help charge your phone until the charging port becomes so disconnected from the board that no amount of force will reestablish this contact. And this will inevitably happen because you're going to keep plugging and unplugging your phone from the charger which is what created the issue in the first place.
If you know you have big, sweaty, idiot hands (like me) that are going to destroy your phone if you take it apart (like me) and you can tough it out: more power to you. The other alternative is to buy an external battery charger and a second battery. The disadvantages here are pretty obvious (e.g. you have to carry a second battery around; if you forget a second battery, you can't ask another Android user to borrow their phone charger, etc.).
