Why is it that AOSP only has 5 home screens and Sense has 7?
Depends on the launcher. You can always add or subtract with adw and salvage mod and miui are changeable as well. I use one screen on adw

I've always found ADW to be the best of all options. Way better than stock and Sense.

MIUI has as many screens as you want
The original aosp launcher has five and can't add anymore reason being I think they don't want the phone to get bogged down to much

I've been using Go Launcher Ex and its far smoother then ADW IMO. You can add as many home screens as you want but I stick to 3

Please tell me why people like it? It has 3 non changable icons that stay one color and looks like its out of place compared to the rest of a home screen setup.
Just wondering whats so great about it? Am i missing something?

different strokes for different folks.
It gives more of a stock feeling than ADW. And the trashcan is on the bottom dock, the only reasons I used it, then I moved to ADW for honeybread

I actually think it looks a bit better than adw. It gives more of a clean look.

Because the app drawer is the best app drawer of all of them! Especially with a phone with good graphics!

Isn't the same effect app drawer available on adw and lppro?

Well gb launcher2 is just so much smoother then adw or lp. Home screen scrolling is buttery smooth, and the transition for opening the app drawer is much nicer then the other two. The app drawer cube effect shows 5 rows in the fold compared to the others. Now that I can use themes in CM7 without adw, I use it.
And in the stock launcher the apps in the drawer "bounce" much smoother than LP, not as laggy
I believe i read somewhere on here that the stock launcher is hardware accelerated. That is why is runs faster and smoother.
I personally prefer anything stock. Stock apps seem, to me at least, to be smaller and faster. Try to keep the fluff to a minimum.
I love stock anything! My Nexus One made me love the 3D app drawer, and on my G2, its only smoother! I can't wait to see how smooth a stock dual core Android 2.4 phone from Google is gonna be! The G2x is a good example, however it will be froyo, meaning not fully dual core compatible like 2.4 will be! My guess....Nexus X by Motorola! I can wish, can't I??

I just love that stock vanilla google experience...same when ICS, Jellybean drop...ill stick to stock...no overlays or launchers for me...BTW is there a zip I can flash for the gingerbread launcher over adw in CM7..? (There was one for NS)
Edit: I know there's a couple in the market but those aren't as smooth as the ones in NS Development...

Hey,
I really didn't have to do anything but flash it. I flashed this over the ILWT cm7 rom and it just worked right out of the box (on 187b as well as 204).
I wouldn't know how to improve the performance of the launcher, except for common guesses such as reflashing/wiping and such.
Maybe it's just a different understanding of what "working really well" means. I never did get it to work perfectly buttery smooth, a very tiny lag always remained (even though it was running a lot better than adw).
Looking for a ROM that is made from the ADW launcher, as in instead of HTC sense UI it would just be ADW launcher but with out the hassle of running 2 UI's. Hope this isnt a double posted question, sorry in advance if it is.
Look for anything aosp or senseless.

Or just use a desensitize script on your favorite sense rom.
Hey, I just installed Deck's 1.3 ROM and I don't like some of the features the Launcher has, so I want to download another one but don't know which one. Also, after installing the new Launcher, can I get rid of the default one?

Try Go Launcher EX.
Launcher pro is getting long in the tooth, but still extremely solid. Also, you can choose from these:

Having trouble with AOSP? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295702
I used to use Launcher Pro+ and then switched to Go Launcher and never looked back.
I'm getting really tired of HTC Sense, and I don't really want to mess around with launchers at the moment. I'm wanting to basically disable Sense and revert it to the basic android look. Anyone know if this is possible on and unrooted Evo 4G running 2.3.3? And if not, is there a really good launcher that will imitate that look?
well to start, if you "turn off" sense you will need a launcher. Launcher 2 would look the most like what i think you are looking for. just remove all widgets from homescreens on sense and select that launcher as the default.
or
you could flash one of these
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092221
they have most of sense removed.
or
try an aosp rom
I second Launcher2. I was never a fan of the bloatware we know as sense.

I tried looking up Launcher 2 in the market, but i couldnt find it.
Yea me too. Try Gingerbread Launcher free or Android 2.3 Launcher (Home).
Alternatives are ADW, Go Launcher and Launcher Pro. There are also themes for the launchers to customize them further.
The following are themes to make the launchers look more like stock gingerbread
ADW - here or here
Go Launcher - only found 1 theme but had bad reviews
Launcher Pro - here
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
I'd recommend Launcher Pro, there are tons of free themes for it and you can customize almost everything. Both Launcher Pro and ADW are both good, I would try both (they are free in the market) and see which one you like better. I used sense exclusively until I found Launcher Pro, I preferred it over ADW. If you want to completely get rid of sense, then the only option is to root and check out the senseless ROMs that are posted in the development section, or the AOSP ROMs.
Edit: I didn't fully read the post lol

hey guys i was wondering what the lightest and quickest launcher is for cm7 i was noticed the included adw is a little laggy at times
Eugene has a free gingerbread launcher on the market, and you can also try FTL launcher, or even Zeam launcher.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989
Hey so do you know how to make the wallpaper scrollable on ftl?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA
I don't think there's a setting for it on that one. I know the dev tried to keep it lightweight
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989
And just to throw it out there, ADW Ex, once fully configured, has great features and runs fairly quick. Its all preference though.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989
I recommend Eugene's gb launcher, as I find adw to be too laggy in the app drawer. Launcher pro is still a good candidate for cm7 imo

I like Zeam.
