[Q] defy sfb gingerbread - Defy General

hi all loooking for a little help have defy on 2.2 froyo offical update from moto want to root phone then flash ginger bread on it but a little aprehensive have read loads of posts on site rooting the phone looks easy have downloaded the advised software oneclick, rds lite, can anyone point me in the right direction for the full sfb for this

nandroid backup.....
I would consider using a nandroid backup instead as there are problems with downgrade-ability if you flash the full SBF.
Currently I'm using the one found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285007
It seems pretty good, I haven't had any problems although I did have to do the battery fix. I'm not sure about the other versions based on MS2Ginger2.0, if they are much better hopefully someone can let us both know.

new to incredible thread. Questions for you guys...

hello all. this is my first time ever setting foot in the incredible threads. im currently a roooted eris user, but recently upgrading to the incredible due to eris's limitations. i should be recieving one in the mail today hopefully. i have a few quick questions for you guys and im hoping i can get answers today or at least before i start rooting my phone.
1) can titanium backup restore all my apps + data and configurations, that were backed up on my eris without any issues?
2) which rom is the best so far? i was enjoying cm 6.0 port on my eris but i prefer sense now because im not much of a fan of stock vanilla look.
I do enjoy the 360 degree rotation and was wondering if anyone has created a sense based rom with that particular feature or does cyanogen have a monopoly on that one?
3) does metamorph work on the incredible? and are these roms available now currently themable
4) which is the most preferred kernel? ive read so far about hydra kernel and kingx, what are the advantages each have over the other
5) in case of a necessary warranty exchange attempt, is there an ota based ruu rom available to restore the original bootloader? in other words is it unrootable as of yet? (eris users are currently able to do this.)
Oh and i forgot to ask.
6) is the 2.2 ota released for upgrade or are the 2.2 roms available right now leaks?

1) Most likely not, while just restoring apps should work, apps+data may bring about problems because they are different phones. don't quote me tho. (My advice make a nandroid before you restore apps+data then if you get FC'cs you'll see something went wrong and can go back)
2) The most popular ROM on this forum seems to be Skyraider, it has both a sense and vanilla version. There are 3 more fairly popular ones on ROM manager, I advise you to test them all out they all have their own flair.
3) Yes, check out the theme's section for more info on that.
4) Both kernels work well, it's all a matter of what you're happiest with. I'm not sure of the specific differences of both tho, so maybe someone else can answer that.
5) If you use Unrevoked3 you can RUU back to stock yes. If you use Unrevoked forever (which is S-off) there is currently no way to get S-on. So you would just have to hope if you turned it in for warranty that the guy didnt check the bootloader.
6) Most 2.2 ROM's right now are based off a leak released here on 8/1/2010. There is no official 2.2 release for the Incredible.

How to install the official Android 2.3?

Hi guys. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but how do I install the 2.3 Android while i have the 2.2? Where to download and how to install it?
You can't as it's currently for the Nexus S and soon to be the Nexus One
You can get a cutom made 2.3 ROM by looking at Oxygen in the ROM forum
Thanks. Well since I don't know the risks of "rooting" or installing custom roms, I want to ask you: is it worth it? Do I lose my phones warranty?
At this point the risk of rooting is minimal (but still there is a risk) and there are good tutorial you can use. Especially this one: Turkeys' Ultimate Guide to Root Desire.
Technicality you lose your warranty when you root your phone but there are ways to revert that. However that is not possible on every phone and depends on the branding and software version.
There is some great development on the gingerbread roms, but they don't full work jet, so at this point I would not root my device just for a gingerbread rom.
On the other hand there are also enough other great froyo roms to try out.
But first thing to do is write down your software info and check if you can find a matching RUU here.

Can I jump from official 2.1 to MIUI/CM7?

I can't find anything on this so I'm either the noobiest here or I am just blind.
I have a Defy with me here and its Sim free and just plain 2.1 Blur. So I want to know if I can just install 2nd init download MIUI/CM7 and instal it through clock work? Any advice is appreciated
Please read some more. I'd recommend you take a look at the 'Defy Android Development' section. To help you a bit:
You should first root your phone.
Then flash Android 2.2 (flash a nandroid backup and a fixed sbf to keep downgrade ability)
After you've done that you can install Cyanogen.
Yes, read the CM7 FAQ Thread in the Defy Android Development.
I think you should use fixed and flashing method so that you can have downgradability to 2.1

Go to 2.2 stock via MSU or RSD anyway. Since this is an official update, Warranty is not an issue. You don't need root to do this.
Once there, and you may find 2.2 very usable (I do and you know from the Blade how much cooking I do!), you can then try 2.3 flavours. They need you to be at 2.2 anyway.

[Q] Defy with froyo 2.2a please help

Hi frendz.
Today i got my defy which has froyo 2.2..
I am already loving it..
Unfortunately it has green lens.
My battery lasts for only 1 day on this stock rom..
For example say battery is fully charged and i start watching movies say 2 hr movie
i can continuously watch on 2 movies..brightness is set to 60%.
so i wanted install custom rom which has better battery backup.I went through the forums OMG!!! so many custom roms??..Which is better with least bugs please tell me..I have few questions please answer ..
1)How to install custom rom from scratch.
2)I want downgrade option to stock rom which i have now for warranty reasons.
3)Links for cm7 rom which is best with least bugs and best battery backup..Coz i see cynogenmod defy device database has no links in it.
4)Can i upgrade to gingerbread custom rom without flashing gingerbread official rom and can i again comeback to stock rom if something goes bad for warranty claiming??
5)Is miui rom best than cm7..And if so then which version..
Please help frendz...
Thanks for everyone..
1. You need to root your phone first before you can install a custom rom. Look for Superoneclick. Once you have done this you need to either install derfy2ndInit from the market or downloaqd RSDLite 4.9 to your computer.
2. To downgrade to stock rom you will need to use RSDLite with SBF JRDNEM_U3_3.42_117-002. This will return you defy back to 2.1 then use the motorola upgrader to 2.2. Your defy will be unrooted and back to stock.
3. Never tried CM7.
4. There is no Gingerbread stock rom. You can upgrade and come back again as in answer two.
5. I have always used MIUI and the latest version is 1.9.2. There is a built in updater and the rom is updated every Friday 11.00 BST. The choice of roms is always down to the individual depending on what you want from it, as I have only used MIUI I am not in a position to make judgement.
I hope this gives you pointer in the right direction but please have a good look through the forums as most if not all your questions will be answered.

[Q] possible to install wajkiui on 2.3.6 ? Downgrade?

I've got a Motorola Defy+ which was running on 2.2 when i purchased it.
In modding my defy+ i managed to update it to 2.3.6 with a full sbf file before being aware of the whole "no downgrade" option.
I really like the look of wajkiui rom. However upon reading the details of it; it seems that its only available to 2.2? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161110
Is there any possible way at all that I can downgrade 2.3.6 to 2.2? I'd then just do a fixed sbf + nandroid backup.
or
Is there a version of the wajkiui rom that is made available for 2.3.6 that i'm not aware of?
I've done a lot of searching on xda and havent been able to find an answer.. so thought id make a thread
Thanks
