Are you sure that your fw is 2.3.4 or is 2.3.3?? The only way of rooting your phone is using xtc clip and put it on s-off.

Is there a temproot that works?
Also there is no sim card slot on virgin mobile. Isn't that required for xtc clip?

This means that we will gen an update to 2.3.4 soon...

I have searched for days and have had no solid answers for rooting the Wildfire S on Virgin Mobile (USA). I understand about S-OFF, and know about the XTC clip and all that...but, because VM (USA) uses CDMA band, the sim clip is totally useless because there is no card in my phone. I'm not new to rooting...but really HTC....I buy a phone outright, and it's locked.
Any leads? I will run whatever exploit is necessary. This phone is great! It's the right size, plenty fast enough, but is so bogged down by preinstalled crap. Root fixes everything.
Heres the info from Hboot, and the software/kernel info. Anything else I can do to be helpful to achieve root, let me know!

damn... got to hope Alpharex takes it back up or wait for HTC
I got one of these phones too [online BestBuy] Memory issues already.
Really like Auto Memory Manager and Android Assistant [apps on Market]. Also, I disabled syncing [and cleared some things [[like contacts]]]. I haven't had those pesky memory messages [and clearing routine] since
There is already a software update from Virgin US [about phone; software updates; check now]. I didn't download or install [its supposed to fix a security exploit [[and I'm looking for exploits]]]. Sucks there is no sim port.
Did some reading. Apparently older chipsets like the ones in the Wildfire S fail to carry some token blah blah blah. To sum up, if you want s-off for the cdma models, you are waiting for updates signed by HTC. Probably some FOTA update [resolving the token issue] then perhaps a security unlock, but the Wilfire S isn't on the supported list at htcdev.com for unlocking yet [and none of the phones listed have been unlocked] If and when there is a FOTA update, perhaps Alpharevx might take up an unlocker, but for now, its a waiting game.
UPDATE: The new way of spoofing the sim and s-off ing without xtc clip works on these phones. Read about it here. Then root with the tutorial on the development thread WORD OF WARNING: Do not go out flashing new Roms to try them out. I have flashed two so far and neither works with my phone (although they work with other Wildfire Ss).

Irony
Is it just me that has realized that the Virgin Mobile Wildfire S is one of the only versions of this phone that can do S-off w/o X-clip but (to my knowledge) cannot be rooted ?

You can S off virgin mobile and root

[Q] Can I put a new ROM if its not rooted ?

Just bought a new vodafone wildfire and had it sim unlocked
Its on 2.2.1 and hboot is 1.001
So I get the joke, I can't root it
But is there still a way of putting a generic ROM on it ?
If the "old days" you could do it with a gold card.
Does this still work on "2.2.1" ?
many thanks in advance
No, it doesn't. Sorry.
You could try downgrading there is a thread but the issus is there is a possibility of bricking the device so of course be carefully

Indeed .... don't do this.
It's to risky....wait and root if it's possible for u !
u can only update RUU rom.
you could do the S-OFF (security off)in any bigger service with XTC-clip,after that you can root and flash what ever you wish......

I am new to android. I have used WinMob for the last 6 years.
I tried several times with a gold card and the shipped WWE RUU, but failed with a signature error.
I searched but couldn't fine a specific thread on flashing stock RUU for 2.2.1. Can someone plz point me.... Thanks in advance.
Question don't belong in the Development section <---please click link and read....moved to general...
the older days have gone.
none of the processes which worked for eclair wildfire (with older hboot) now work for froyo wildfire.
And till now, on froyo wildfire with hboot 1.01, u cant even get a simple root just for using ROOT ONLY APPS.
what all u can do is WAIT DUDEEEE...................

[q] rooting htc wildfire

hey guys, is there a way to root the htc wildfire or buzz, my hboot is 1.01.0002 locked on telstra network in australia. is there a way to root it? i tried unrevoked but it currently doesnt support my boot loader. any help would be appareciated
cheers
The only way to do it is through XTC Clip. They are expensive to buy and I too am in Australia but had to sent mine away to the UK. XTC Clip gives you S-OFF and then you can downgrade and use unrevoked. There are plenty of tutorials on the web to enable you to do that. unrevoked 3.3 doesn't work after XTC Clip so you have to find a copy of unrevoked 3.2. This hangs on the step: rebooting into recovery, but by then the phone is rooted so just select the reboot now option and you are all set
Or just wait for AlphaRevX, which should be coming soon.

neither do you when using the XTC clip
but indeed, alpharevx should be coming out soon, saves you some cash
thaks mate so how long did it take for you to take it to the UK and back? and also has the bootloader been cracked yet? im assumeing that unrevoked would have a newversion somthing along the lines of 3.3 or somthing to use the new HBOOT 1.001 but thanks for the infomation anyway man much appreciated
i think ill just stick to waiting for alpharevx to come out or a new unrevoked thanks for all the help people

Everything I tried has failed, please advise

Hello, Having this WFS clogged with factory apps that leaves me with about 15MB of space is really annoying. I have tried multiple approaches to gain some control, but nothing has worked. Going to HTCDEV to unlock the boot-loader left me with a 130 error code, so I updated my drivers, sync and even installed the SDK and JDK files. Nope. Apparently my 2.3.4 version won't let me do any of it. I cannot even get to the flashing recovery step. Rooting and/or unlocking sounds nice, but I can't seem to even start either process. Can anyone give me some pointers in what to do to delete some of these factory apps? I have absolutely no control over my phone TIA.

I second that. There's a sticky with almost every important thread for the wfs linked at the top of the page. Recoveries/guides/kernels..... Something like that.

I think you should probably go to www.htcdev.com and use there unlock method. For what you want, its what you should do. I just reccomend this because soff can cause noobs problems, especially when SuperCID'd .... But i digress. htcdev allows for kernels roms recoveries and root

You probably have an old phone, bought before feb 2011 and had an over the air update.
Please Go to HTCDEV.com and unlock your bootloader.
Then Follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1365159
This is same as the second link posted above by a senior member.
It took some patience but it worked really fine.
I will soon be flashing Cyanogenmod, am stuck with exams right now
All the best,

[Q] Just bought a Verizon HTC One On eBay. Is it stock?

Hey, all. I just bought a Verizon HTC One on eBay. Seems to work ok. I checked the IMEI with Verizon and it's clean, so I'll activate it at some point... but before I do that, I wanted to root it. I don't care about s-off, I just want root so I can delete the bloatware etc. I probably won't be flashing any custom ROMs for a bit (I don't need s-off for that anyway, right?)
I've been reading about Verizon telling HTC to not allow bootloader unlocking from their site, and I've read about Rumrunner. Will Rumrunner currently unlock and root a Verizon HTC One with Android 4.3 and HBOOT 1.55? If it will, I was also reading that the device has to be totally stock. Here is the software info. Do I have a stock handset?
Kernel version: 3.4.10-g40851b1, [email protected] #1, SMP PREEMPT
Baseband version: 1.12.41.1112_2
Build number: 2.10.605.1 LC278010 release-keys
Browser version: WebKit/534.30
I installed Root Checker Basic (something I've used on my rooted Nexus 7) and it says there is no root. Also appears to be locked and S-ON.

Thanks for any help. Rooting my Dinc and Rezound wasn't nearly this involved.
Currently there is no way to root your device. For this phone, you pretty much need s-off to gain root. Also, yes your phone is stock. Rumrunner still hasn't been updated for 4.3, and it may never get updated, but either way this is a killer phone.

Thanks for the quick reply. This makes me a sad panda. I love Titanium Backup. Why do you think Rumrunner may not get updated for 4.3? Are beaups and co tired of the One? I kinda feel like I have shackles on now. Dammit. I shoulda bought a diff phone that was already rooted. Gah... but this one was a great price, hardly used, and came with everything in the box.

I would guess the reason the 4.3 rumrunner update hasnt came out is because they are waiting for the 4.4 update which should be coming sometime in Jan, I could be completely wrong about this however.

So am I right when I say its impossible to s-off or unlock the bootloader on a Verizon HTC One with Android 4.3 and an Hboot version of 1.55.0000 ? I tried everything in the books and can't get mine unlocked ??

That's what tylerlawhon said.
At least the OS allows me to disable a bunch of stuff... I just wish it wasn't taking up part of my measley 32GB.
If this is stock, btw, why do I not have Twitter for HTC Sense available? I guess if I have to live with Blinkfeed until the Verizion KitKat/Sense 5.5 update, I want to put my Twitter feed in it... but it's not available in services. Any ideas?
EDIT: NM. I took a chance and installed the craptacular official Twitter Client for Android. That installs Twitter for HTC Sense service for Blinkfeed. Now to hide the damned thing from my app drawer. Ugh.
